TREX 7.1 Instance periodically Dies

Hey Everyone,
I have an issue that I have no idea how to address.
We have a TREX 7.1 Instance that periodically just Dies about once every 2 weeks or so.
Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
Thanks In advance.
Dylan

Hi Dylan,
Can you take a look at the TrexNameServerAlert.trc file the next time trex goes down or if you have the timestamp of the last time trex went down check the trace fiiles and see if you get the following error for example:
shared memory lock '/tmp/.trex_<TREX-SID>_<Inst.NR>;_lock'was deleted
[1167821120] 2010-07-28 04:02:04.808 f NameServer
TREXNameServer.cpp(02057) : Stopping instance...
[1178880320] 2010-08-15 04:02:09.383 f NameServer   WatchDog.cpp(00059)
The thing is the TREX creates a lock file named .trex_<TREX-SID>_<Inst.
Nr>_lock  (f.e. .trex_TRX_00_lock) in the /tmp directory. If this file
is removed, TREX handles as stopsignal and goes down.
Therefore, would you please double check if there are any cron jobs
running under root or <TREX-SID>adm user, which have to clean up the
/tmp directory? If so, please make sure this file is excluded from
cleanup job.
Kind Regards,
Barry Cunningham

  • TREX 7 sapinst -- instance number error

    Dear Portal&TREX specialists,
We are implementing a TREX 7 on SunSolaris 10. During the installation we get the following error message:
„A SAP Instance  is already in use. Enter another instance number for the new TREX instance.“
Do you know a solution where this „old“ instance number is saved? We don’t have the possibilty to choose an other instance number. Before this installation we had remove/deinstalled the old TREX instance and the old TREX instance had this number, that is shown in the error message of sapinst.
    Thanks.

  • DNS Issues with Time Capsule - DNS Proxy periodically dies

hi all .... looking for some suggestions
I have a time capsule 1TB, connected to a linksys adsl modem in bridge mode, with the TC acting as DHCP server for my local clients. In the PPPoE settings I also enter the primary and secondary addresses for DNS that my ISP supplied.
I am able to successfully connect to the internet, and all clients successfully pick up an IP address, and each client picks up the TC as the DNS proxy. Everything works perfectly as it should.
Usually once per day, there seems to be a slight hickup with the internet connection (hard to tell whether I am losing the PPPoE or some other issue). When this happens, the PPPoE connection remains active, as I am able to access anything on the internet from an IP level. However, the DNS proxy service on the TC seems to die and as a result, all internet browsing fails. If I reboot the TC, everything comes back to normal. If I dont reboot, the only way to get browsing working is to manually enter the DNS IP address from ISP into the client PCs. However, this is a manual fix that I should not have to perform.
Looking for advice and guidance. Seems like a bug but I cant tell. If I was able to set the DHCP server to pass out the ISP supplied addresses that would also work, but I cant.

Just got off the phone with support for this very same problem. DNS Proxy is definitely dying in the TC, looks like a firmware issue to me.
This is the 3rd TC I'm on. First was a 500GB, had this problem, replaced it under warranty at Apple's direction, replacement did the same, just upgraded this weekend to 1GB, and same issue still. All on 7.3.2 firmware.
TC 1TB, PPPoE to my ISP, ISP's DNS Servers listed in the PPPoE config in the TC.
When a host gets DHCP from the TC the only DNS returned is the TC itself, since it proxies the ISP DNS servers.
Once every day or two, the DNS proxy dies. local network works, and I can add my ISP's DNS addresses in my host config and I have DNS again, but this is definitely something dying in the DNS proxy in the TC.
Just for kicks trying to switch from my ISP's DNS servers to OpenDNS now since someone said that worked for them, but I am not hopeful... I don't see this as a host DNS issues at all.
The dead proxy is very clear:
    $ nslookup apple.com. 192.168.1.1 # that's the TC
    Server: 192.168.1.1
    Address: 192.168.1.1#53
    ** server can't find apple.com: SERVFAIL
    $ nslookup apple.com. 208.67.222.222 # that's OpenDNS
    Server: 208.67.222.222
    Address: 208.67.222.222#53
    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: apple.com
    Address: 17.149.160.49
I replaced a linksys router with the TC and am kind of unhappy that a $500 router dies every couple of days. My cheapo Linksys router never needed to be restarted, it only ever got rebooted once every year or so when the house lost power long enough for the UPS to run out of battery.
Help us out here Apple, I replaced a $50 router with a $500 because I like the flavor of your kool aid, and this thing dies every day or two. Even if you can't fix why the proxy is dying every couple of days, can you please at least update the firmware to maybe restart the proxy if it quits working?

  • One TREX server for multiple Portals?

I have the same requirement as that contained in this thread:
    TRex for Multiple Portals
I wonder if anyone can technically elaborate a bit what the procedure for this configuration.
I would have to install a TREX and create a TREX instance for each Portal that I want to give TREX service?
Each instance points to a different host?
My requirement is to use the same TREX to both DEV and QA Portal hosts.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. !!

    Hi Leandro,
For your requirement this document describes the TREX installation -

  • TREX Engine not working in PI

    Hi Experts ,
My team has configured TREX with PI, to monitor PI messages.
I can see that , unlike the Integration Engine which has about 190000 messages,  there were no messages indexed for Adapter Engine, is this expected ?
Am I missing some important configuration / settings.
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Arnab.

    Hi Arnab,
For PI 7.1 with EHP1, then you can following threads to search the messages using Trex:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/d05c14c3-34af-2b10-a1b1-fa2a39e0d2ae
    /people/niki.scaglione2/blog/2010/02/22/payload-searching-without-trex
It should be there, sicne Trex server is installed.
Else, you have to write the ABAP code for search:
    /people/sravya.talanki2/blog/2006/02/21/abap-based-trex-in-xi-proto
Also, if you have configured correctly cross check the steps below:
The global settings is valid for all components u have selected for indexing. You can use the default value itself.
    ther are parameters like
    1) Maximum number of messages per package to be transferred to the TREX server
    2) Maximum size in KB of message packages transferred to the TREX server
    3) Time interval in minutes for the periodic transfer of message packages to the TREX server for indexing
    4) Time interval in hours for the periodic reorganization of the index of a component on the TREX server
    5) Time period in days for the retention period of messages in the index
    6) Time interval in minutes for the periodic processing of the TREX queue
    7) Maximum number of entries for processing in the TREX queue
Also ther are filters available. if the filter is empty then all the messages will get indexed and will be available in search,
if u enter any details in filter option, then that particular interface only be indexed and only indexed messages will be available for content base search. The use of filter will improve the performance in case of large message flow and also it will save your hardware resources. but make sure that all required interfaces will be available in filter or other wise will searching you will get confused.
Also, check sap note: 1266924 if everything is fine!
    Hope this helps.

  • How to hide posting periods?

    Hi,
I'm just wondering how one can hide posting periods that is not in use anymore? The system doesn't have that option as far as I can see, but I'm wondering if it's even possible?
These posting periods are under Administration - System initialisation - Posting periods.
After one has had SAP for a while, the posting periods are quite many. So we had a question from a customer asking how to hide the ones they're not using anymore (for instance periods from 4-5 years back).
Hope that you can help me to figure this out!
    Br,
    Lena-Marie Digre

    Hi,
If just looking for correct posting period or find the correct posting period, move your mouse to the posting period window in what ever field or row of posting period, just right click and select filter table. In the filter table, just specify  the posting period you want to find. It is more easy. Just use filter table feature. E.g. of the finding 2006-01:
    in  the filter table window:
the column Field : period code
    the column Rule : Equal
    the column Value : 2006-01
The value can be entered manually. you do not need to select / scroll down. Good luck.

  • TREX 7.0 - moving index / queue folders to new installation

    Hi,
I have a TREX 7.0 instance, I want to move it and also change the SID. Can I just install a new TREX instance and then copy the queue and index folders to the new instance? Or do I need to copy the whole TREX directory? Can I still do this if the SID is changing?
    Many thanks

    Hi Jane,
I read, you have a TREX 7.0 Instance.
Do you have this Instance on a extra machin? maybe OS Win 64Bit?

  • TREX 7.0

    Hi,
i want to install TREX 7.0 search engine in my system. can any one help me in solving the following issues?
1.iam having the documents regarding installation, i need the installation materials. where to download?
2.what is meant by Installation with HTTP and RFC Connections? what is the difference in it?
3.what is meant by installing a global file system and a TREX instance or installing any one alone?
    Thanks,
    Kannan.

    Hello Kannan,
    1. you can download the installation material in the SAP Service Marketplace under Download --> SAP Installation & Upgrades --> Entry by Application group --> SAP NetWeaver --> SAP NETWEAVER --> SAP NETWEAVER 2004s --> Installations & Upgrades --> <OS system> --> <database type> --> Download Objects. You need the NW 2004s SR 2 Installation Master and NW 2004s SR2 Search/Class. (TREX)
    2. The difference between http and RFC connection is the way you get the data for the index from your backend system. If you want to search in a web based backend system, http connection is the right way for connecting (for example SAP Enterprise Portal). If you use a SAP MyERP system based on ABAP (for example the E-Recruiting) you get a connection with the RFC (Remote Function Call).
    3. With global file system SAP means the path of the profile of a SAP system. In a UNIX system it could be /usr/sap/<SAPSID>/profile (see all definitions under http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/40/937d7d66156365e10000000a114cbd/content.htm). The TREX instance is a SAP instance on a server which contents the TREX. Each instance has a number code with two figures (i.e. 00). For example a normal central portal installation has two instances: the SCS (SAP Central Services), the CI (Central Instance). If you i.e. install a portal and a TREX on one server you have three instances on this server.

  • Can we run parallel data collections to collect multiple source instance.

    Hi,
We have a business requirement where we will have multiple Source(ERP) instance and single Destination(ASCP) instance. We would like to check if we will be able to run Data collections in parallel to collect multiple EPR instance in the same time window. This is to reduce the total planning process time duration as following data collections we will be required to run multiple plan runs.
Please help me with your expert comments
    Rgds
    Sid

You may instead use Continuous collections to save on time so it can run collections from both instances periodically throughout the day thereby reducing a single timespan to collect all the data.

  • EC-CS-currency translation key 5 - Translation of each period at applicable

    Hi,
When using translation key 5 (Translation of each period at applicable rate for the period) in our methods, for this to translate local currencies per period, do we have to run our currency translation methods EVERY period, or can we run it just once, say at year-end, and it will re-compute the group currency values for each period using applicable exchange rate for those periods?
    For instance,
    period 1: LC value = 100,
                 GC value = 150
    period 3: LC value = 200
                 GC value = 300
No currency translation method is run at this point, the GC values are just given values.
If we decide to change the exchange rate for period 1 to 1LC = 2LC, and we run currency translation at year-end using translation key 5, will the system recompute the GC value in period 1 from 150 to 200?
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Peter

    Hi Sudhir,
From the accounting point of view, the purpose of currency translation is basically to adjust the local currency into the group currency. I can say that, it's actually a "simplified" version of on-line paralel currenty as we have in on-line SAP R/3.
In your case, you said that there is no "off line companies" in the group. I assume that R/3 will be the 100 percent source of your consolidation system.
If your feeder system (FI, and probably CO), has been equiped with the paralel currency, then there's no need for you to activate the currency translation since the translated amount is there already in the paralel currency.
    Hope can clarify.

  • RFC issue with TREX CCMS monitoring

    Hello,
I have a TREX 7.10 instance (running on a Windows Server) and a SAP Solution Manager System 7.01 (on Unix Server) which is used as central CCMS monitoring system.
I have configured CCMS Monitoring for TREX according to the pdf document that is attached to SAP note 897226 ('Monitoring TREX with CCMS. Alerting seems to work, the autoreaction method that I defined for e.g. unavailabitlity of TREX processes is triggered when I test it.
In SolMan system, transaction RZ21, agents for remote systems,  I see that the agent for the TREX instance is in status 'Online'.
But when I highlight this agent and click on the button 'Test Connection' I get  'Error when opening an RFC connection'.
In TA SM59 of SolMan system I am doing connection check for the two TCP/IP RFC destination related with that TREX instance
    N3STAT.<hostname>.<Nr>   and
    SAPCCMSR.<hostname>.<Nr>
For both I get the error 'program <hostname>.n3stat.<Nr> not registered' respectively 'program <hostname>.sapccmsr.<Nr> not registered'
I am a little bit confused how to fix this. Can somebody help ?

In the meantime I could solve the issue.
The solution is that the registration command on TREX host had wrong parameters.
I only have a pure TREX instance, no ABAP instance, no Java instance on the same host.
In this case you have to register your agent at central SolMan system this way:
    sapccmsr -R pf=
Don´t use the -j2ee parameter if you don´t have a java instance there.

  • SWPM picking SCS01 instance for AS-ABAP

    Hi Experts,
I have a problem on the import to HANA system copy on our BW Production server.
Basically our BW production used to be a dual-stack system with ABAP/Java. A couple of years ago we split the stacks and now they run on different instances, however on the same server. This was successful and we have been running this without any issue.
Now we are trying to move the DB of the ABAP stack to HANA from MSSQL to provide better reporting. We have already migrated our development and Quality servers successfully.
Now it is time for production and we brought the kernel and component versions to the same as dev/qlt and have completed the export.
Now when we try to do the import we get the following error.
SAP system PP1 exists and is not suitable for this installation option.
DIAGNOSIS:Valid instance types for this installation option are WD,GW,ASCS,ABAPCI,ABAPDI,ERS,TREX,HDB, but instance SCS01 has a different type.
SOLUTION: Choose a different SAP system ID or uninstall the existing system.
Path taken is NW 73 EHP 1 ->SAP Hana Database -> System Copy ->Target System -> Standard System -> Based on AS ABAP -> Standard system
The above procedure worked without any issue in dev and quality.
I'm thinking there is some setting somewhere where its finding the old SCS01 for the ABAP instance.
Appreciate your help. Searched in the forums with no luck.
    Thanks and regards,
    Dilanke

    Hi Raegan,
Thanks for your reply. I couldn't find the file you mentioned but managed to resolve this issue.
Basically the old profile files when it used to be a dual stack system still existed even though not used. Hence why SWPM thought it had a SCS01 instance. Once i renamed the files it went through.
    Thanks for your time.

  • Delta extraction of modified data in already closed periods

    Hi everyone,
we're currently facing a scenario where data in BI does not seem to match R/3. We're using the business content extractors 0ec_pca_3 & 0ec_pca_4 to get data for a balance sheet report, but some of the figures don't match. The client currently uses periods 001 - 013, in other words they have one special period. After much investigation and discussions with the users, we found out that the client sometimes goes back and makes changes to periods that have already been closed. For instance, period 013.2007 is closed in R/3 (and loaded to BI), at some point in 2008 the client "reopens" the period and modifies the data. This data does not seem to be picked up by the BI delta extractor. So our theory is that the two systems don't balance because of this late period modification. My questions are:
Is it part of standard SAP FI process to re-open an already closed period and add/change/delete data?
If so, would this changes be picked up by the standard delta extraction? If not why and is there anything we can do to achieve this?
If not part of standard process, what would the solution be? We've suggested to potentially create a separate period, say period 014, for these changes? Would this be a recommended way forward?
    Thanks for your time.
    Cheers,
