TREX Migration

Is it possible to export the taxonomy configuration from an EP60 SP2 system and import it into a NW04 SP14 system.
We did not migrate TREX using the tools. We decided to rebuild the indexes on the target NW platform after all the content was migrated. It takes us about 2 hours to manually rebuild the taxonomy's in this scenario.
I was wondering if there was a way to get the taxonomy configuration from the EP6 system and load it into the NW04 system to avoid this 2 hours of rebuild time???
(Besides, I don' think the migration tools migrated the taxonomy configuration anyways)
Stephen

Hi Stephen,
taxonomy "configuration" data are migrated by the KMC migration tool. Matter of fact, there is no explicitly visible taxonomy migration as taxonomies are built on top of lower level KMC functionality. As such, any details related to taxonomies are for example stored in persistencies of the KMC configuration framework and the KMC applicaton property service; and all those "things" are covered by the KMC migration tool.
Nonetheless, the indexes need to be rebuilt anyway even when using the migration tools, basically because of the different TREX releases used with 6.20 and 6.40.
So even if there was a way to isolate and export just taxonomy related KMC data that would save the time to rebuild the indexes behind the taxonomies.

  • Questions about Trex migration

    Hello experts,
I have some questions about Trex migration.
We have to migrate our Trex instances to another Hardware type (and operating system type).
Is it somehow possible to export the Trex database (indexes etc.) on the source Trex, and then import them on the new target Trex? I ask because i found another thread in here saying that this is only possible if the source and target OS is the same, and if the source and target Trex is the same version, I donu2019t know if this is true though?
Or is it easier to just install a new Trex, and then let it rebuild index etc.? And is this a feasible way to do it?
As you can see i don't know much about Trex, so any hints and good advice is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Kenneth

    Hi Kenneth,
there are different approachs for migartion TREX.
    a) Install TREX on a new machine. And export the indexes and afterwards import the indexes. This is possible even you do not have the same TREX version. Because otherwise if you only want to upgrade your revision you just start the sapinst or install.sh at the same machine.
    b) Intstall TREX on a new machine and re-index all.
But keep in mind TREX is not BIA. Even perhapts this is the same SAP software  component.
So re-index could take about days.... not only 10 min. This depends on the type of objekts which should be indexed and of the volumne.
As well it is not recommanded in general to switch on delta. For BIA of cause but not in generel for TREX.

  • TREX Migration from HP-UX to Windows

    Hi Experts,
I want to migrate TREX 7.0 on HP-UX to TREX on Windows. Is there a way to transfer existing indexes from the HP-UX system to the new TREX system running on Windows?
    Thank you,

    Hi Joseph,
thank you for your recommendation. Importing the indexes of the HP-UX TREX on the Windows TREX was exactly what I did. The Search function in TREXAdmin on the Windows system returned an error when trying to view the index content, throwing an error message. The TrexIndexServerAlert trace file contains entries like:

Sounds as if the TREX index file format on HP-UX cannot be interpreted on Windows, and probably vice versa. This would mean that exporting/importing indexes with the TREX Python scripts can be used to transfer indexes between TREX systems of the same version running on the same OS platform only.

  • SAP ISA R/3 Edition problem with TREX

    Hi!
We are migration our Internet Sales (R/3 Edition) 4.0 with SAP J2EE Engine 6.20 to SAP J2EE Engine 6.40.
We’ve already migrate your Java Basket data. And we’ve installed TREX 6.1
for catalogue replication and we’ve created a WEB SITE in IIS.
    We’ve created a B2B scenario and we’ve configured xcm for: b2b, Shopadmin
    and trexr3.
Apparently TREX is working fine... I can create and replicate catalogs, view the catalogs within TREX, etc. But I'm getting the following error when I try to see the content of catalog within http://10.125.25.57:50100/trexr3/b2x/admin/catalog.do.
Exception from the PCAT API: Index has not been assigned to this
IndexServer;location=sapisaqld01:30203,index=index_id1204052895687pindex(Errorcode 2004) Retrieval of trex index failed!
I've just updated TREX 6.1 to SP33 and the problem persists.
We can find the following messages within TREXindexserverAlert.trc:
    [01176] 2008-02-29 11:55:46.812 e indexserver TREXIndexServer.cpp(00632)
: ERROR: not assigned to index: 'index_id1204053610211pindex', function:'showIndex'
and when we try to see the catalog information within
    http://10.125.25.57:50100/trexr3/b2x/admin/init.do
    we get the message:
Exception from the PCAT API: Index has not been assigned to this
    IndexServer;location=sapisaqld01:30203,index=index_id1204052895687pindex(Errorcode
2004) Retrieval of trex index failed!
    Any hints?
    Cheers,

    Hi Dick,
Guess how I solve this problem?
Well.... I've reinstalled SAP TREX 6.1 SP33 and started from scratch.
    Thanks

    Hello James,
                Thanks for writing.
    I am on Windows.
Now the problem is solved. I had also created a message with service market place for the above mentioned problem.
<b>Solution:</b> While upgrading the TREX, it has overwritten the "TREXIndexServer.ini", we restored it from the backup & the error was resolved.

  • Transporting KM documents and TREX indexes

    Hi,
We are planning to transport KM contents with folder permissions and their asscoiated TREX indexes to a new set of EP-KMC and TREX system.
Can KM migration tool be used for transporting contents from one server to another with permissions.. Or shud we use ICE? Is there any recommended way ?
How do we transport serach indexes from one server TREx installion to another of the same version..
    Any help ?
    Regards
    Bharathwaj

    Hi Bharathwaj,
At the moment, the normal way to transport KM content (including ACL) is the ICE way. There are some known restrictions, see http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e2/61701deb253242bea2ebeafa190e83/frameset.htm , but if you can live with that, it's the most straight forward way.
I'm unsure if the migration tool can do that / how easy that would be; never used it.
A real KM transport tool will be part of the next major release...
TREX indexes are not transportable at the moment. You have to re-create them on the target system.
    Hope it helps

  • TREX -

    Hi
Scenario- earlier TREX installed in Pune (Windows+TREX6.0) after migration shifted to Airoli we have done the new fresh installation of TREX as per my awareness after integration with new TREX indexing where not working because it was
not replicated to the new TREX.
But in SRM portal we are getting error-
We have a Portal in a environment.TREX has been set up on a separate server HTTP,Name,Index and Queue servers are all up and Green in TREX Admin.
But in SRM web site when we search for any term in the search filed the error obtained is:

An unexpected severe error occurred during the search call. If the
situation persists, inform your system administrator.
In any case, please help out with a solution.

    hi michael,
i am not sure that this is helpfull, but you can make use of this samples to write your own portal service and expose it as web service.

  • GTS Migration.

    Hello GTS experts,
We are planning to migrate GTS 7.0 from one server to another with different Suse Linux to RedHat Linux.
We are wondering how the GTS 7.0 can be migrated.
    1. Is it enough to do export/import of the database?
    2. Do we need to take export of any configuration or file system level data?
    Thanks in advance.

I think if you touch base with basis folks, it would be helpful. Few things which can be tested after migration such as-
    1. Table space
    2. Run time of transaction (ideally 10 min - 30 min) based on the volume of data.
    3. There would be lot of Run time errors
    4. If TREX is available then test for it. check BD64 TCP/IP for its config and other details
    5. RFC connection
    6. Load test would also be helpful
    7. Fetching programs
    8. jobs
    9. Customized development tests having z tables
    10. Promote to production
I think having the back up would be a risk mitigation step and it can be justified as well, but decision would be based on the volume of the data.
All the best and let us know how it goes and your key learnings.

  • Sharing TREX indexes between portal instances

    Hi people,
We created several TREX search indexes in our development portal and we need to reuse them in our productive environment.
As I read in Migrating Content, changing namespace I understand that the indexes cannot be transported between portal instances.
My question is: Is there any way to access existing TREX indexes in new portal instances ?
    Thanks

    Hi Daniel,
of course you can use the same TREX server from two different portals.
I assume though, that the issue will be, that the resource IDs and subsequently access URLs will not be the same on the two portals. Or that, for other reasons, you will not be able to ensure abolute synchronicity of KM content in the two portals.
=> Cannot use same index for not exactly same content...
    Regards, Karsten
PS: In this rough context, please also have a look at the linked thread and at the text below, concerning TREX use by totally different apps.
    TRex index_service
When running several solutions against one TREX, currently you, in the project, have to ensure the following:
    - availability of a TREX Server release that is compatible to all the respective solution releases (check the PPMS or PAM entries of DMS, EP, SRM, etc.)
    - adequate sizing (see above link to distributed systems)
    - maintenance of the proper TREX address in all solutions
    AND MOST IMPORTATNTLY:
Although TREX does offer index namespaces, most solutions do not address that yet and create indexes in one common directory on the TREX Server.
Thus, if more than one of the solutions creates technical index names on the TREX Server that are likely to reoccur (e.g. "Test" is created on TREX Server with that directory name, rather than with some techID as directory name), you have to educate the future administrators/powerusers of the project to create only indexes that follow a naming conventiont to avoid index name conflicts (e.g. start all index names with solution prefix "DMS_...", "xRPM_...")
    Note:
Using one TREX instance instead of several only provides "IT-side integration". It does not produce an information integration. Each solution will only search in its own indexes.
An enterprise search over KM, ERP, BI and more will be offered with the SAP NetWeaver release <b>after</b> 2004s.

  • Lotus Notes documents migration into Solution Manager

We have been using Lotus notes application for maintaining only documentation in our landscape. But now, the plan is to move all the documentation from Lotus notes to SAP Solution Manager and use it as a document management system from now....
Could anyone please answer the following queries:
    1) Does LSX environment help/enhance the migration ?. If not, are there any tools/accelerators/functions/automatic methods for mas uploading?
    2) This documentation is not project specific documentation. Where do you think this must go in Solution Manager?
In the custom area of BPR?. If yes, please do let me know the procedure for the same.
    3) Would it be possible to link the documents to functional domains/ business scenarios/ business processes in the BPR?
    4) Lotus notes provides access to all the versions (Draft/Approved/Reviewed) of a document. Would it be possible to have the same features even in Solution Manager?
    5) What all document types does Solution Manager recognize?.
I think the Lotus notes documents can be converted to 'Word' format and then put in Solution Manager. Besides this, is there any other common format which is recognized by both the tools?
    6) Standard SAP Solution manager does not provide indexed search. So, in order to retrieve a document later what indexing nomenclature/guidelines do you recommend?
Has anyone done/faced with this kind of requirement. The idea now is to use Solution manager as a document management system. The efforts/process/timelines information if already known would be of great help to start with for us....
Could you also provide the trade offs b/n Solution Manager and SAP knowledge warehouse (KW)?
    Hoping for some replies ...

we also had the same requirement to migration from LN to SolMan Documentation base but there is no such tool (yet?)
What you can do you can migrate from any ARIS like platform to SolMan:
    http://en.sap.info/ids-scheer-announces-migration-program-to-aris-platform/4058
You do have versioning in SolMan and you can upload any kind of document via SOLAR01
regarding the indexing you can either use SAP SES or connect TREX, this is documented in the customizing (SPRO)
TREX will also be the prerequisite to make use of KM in SolMan

    hi,
    Please refere SNote 1043676.
Also, need to understand the following,
How to move an entire content repository from one content server to another
Sometimes you may need to move a content repository - but not necessarily all the content repositories from one content server to another. This can be done without much drama. Here is a means that I've used in the past:
Use report RSCMSEX to export the repository from the source content server.
Create a repository of the same name on the target content server.
Use Report RSCMSIM to import the repository into the target content server.
Delete the repository from the source content server (if desired!).
The SAP progrm sapkprotp controls the import and export. The ABAP reports allow you to specify the RFC destinations where sapkrpotp runs.
    For lager repositories
The programs  listed above cannot deal with the whole content repository at the same time. For a slower migration, try using the program RSIRPIRL. This approach allows you to do the migation on a live system.
Create the new content repository on your new content server.
    Create the new content category.
If using distribution, distribute the new documents to the new category. otherwise change redirected category for DMS_C1_ST
    Relocate using the program.

    Hello,
As Far as I'm aware it is not possible to do an LOC search in the Product catalog search as the design means that the LOC at area level are replicated to an S-index on Trex, This will only be replicated during an initial replication.
But when the search is done the query will be on the P index that does not contain the LOC . I'm not sure if you have an LOC on headder level will this be replicated to the P index and then maybe possible to extend the search but I have not tested this.

  • KMC Migration tool

    Hi,
I'm currently trying to migrate my KM Content on dev (EP 6 SP2) to prod (EP6 SP2).
I have a significant amount of content (documents etc) in the KM repositories which I need and I have read of a KMC Migration Tool which I have not been able to find.
the relevant OSS note 732461 was declared as NOT released on OSS.
I'd appreciate if I could be pointed towards some more reading in the KM Migration area as my next area of concern in the TREX index and taxonomy migration.

    Hi,
CM repositories in FSDB mode can have a manual backup before configuring the local root. The XML file provides the description of behaviors and persistence levels for the file system. To have a manual backup the auto sync has to be deactivated or else there will  be a  huge meta data loss.
what i feel is like you have to restore the DB before manual bacup(.if the Auto sync is activated). However, i dont  think so  that you can resume the migration.
    Regards,
    Anand

  • Reindexing after KMC-Migration

We migrated KM from EP5 to Netweaver. After the migration we wanted to reindex the migrated KMC-Content with a new and fresh TREX-Instance.
The Trex only find new documents, but not the migrated ones.
How can we indexing the migrated documents ?

    Oliver -
Are you running a full reindex or an incremental update? Also, did you recreate the indexes after attaching the new TREX instance?  You may also want to increase the logging settings for your crawlers to see what documents are actually being crawled.

  • How can I Migrate/Split itunes/icloud account for a large family now that they have family sharing

Ok, now that Apple has finally come out with family sharing I need to get things sorted out and I think it is going to be a mess. I have 6 family members (my spouse and 4 children) all sharing/using one itunes account. For parental reasons this made perfect sense. Now with the the advent of family sharing and such we have alot of sorting and migrating to do and I am very unsure how to go about it. Here is what we have.
    Myself - I have a 64GB iPad 3 and a 64GB iPhone 5
    Spouse - 64GB iPhone 5
    Children - x4 16GB iPhone 5C (pink, blue, green, and a yellow)
We have had one itunes account now for several years, we used to have x4 16GB iphone 4's and a 16GB iPod touch 4 so we needed it to be shared at the time. We all have different Game Center ID's and Facetime/iMessages are all setup to the phone numbers (aside from mine which also uses the itunes e-mail). We currently have 1 upgraded icloud account with 200GB of storage on it (love the new tiers). So here are the questions.
    1) How do I go about using and isolating all the devices so they can all use the iCloud storage? Right now if I try and setup backups by device under the what to backup there is no simple "Full Backup" option, they have all the categories separated. I cannot backup my daughters contacts without forcing a merging of them and so on. Same thing with Documents and Data. Would I need to setup a different iCloud account for each device now?
    2) iTunes Music/App purchases. Now that they have a family sharing function I am assuming it would be a good time to separate all the devices (aside from my personal iPad/iPhone). If I understand correctly we need to setup a new itunes account for each and link them with family sharing, does this then allow us to disperse/move items from a singular to the multiple account (at least a one time option to move around) or would it simply be shared off the original account? My daughter for example will be 18 next summer and as such no longer under our care. How do we move her items to her account? She has a lot of purchased Music. Now keep in mind I am talking about an account for someone who was 12 when she had her first device and as such needed to be under her parents.
I just want to state that repurchasing things is NOT an option, and to be frank,  according to Canadian laws pertaining to *licensing* we actually own the product if we paid for it and have the right to transfer the ownership thereof. This issue went through the courts regarding used copies of OEM editions of Microsoft Windows several years ago and they closed the legal *license* vs ownership separation.

Go to appleid.apple.com to manage the ID, sign in and select to the Name, ID and Email Addresses section, then change the birth date on the bottom right.  At the present time you may not be able to enter the correct birth date, but others have had success changing the year to 2000, or the date to 1/1/2001, both of which will have child ID status.
