TREX question

hi gurus,
having a TREX related question to be addressed post in terms of system refresh activities, for instance of e-recruiting or any other ecc system after we do system refresh from production to QA. we usually follow the whole TREX re-indexing procedure again
but that would usually take time to complete the re-indexing procedure like say 24-48hrs depending on the data volume.
is there a possibility to minimize this re-indexing time by another workarounds
1) can we have the TREX indexes and queues restored from prod to QA, using python scripts,  if this works what are the implications and other critical things to consider.
2) any other best way to reduce/save time.
thanks,
durga

Hi,
Yes you can use the available python scripts to export and import indices.

We have just started up, with NW2004s and EP 7.0, however TREX was not installed.  I was under the impression that TREX was a requirement for metadata searches.  Mgmt is now asking me to justify the need for TREX.  My question is why do we need TREX? can someone provide arguments for installing TREX, and  also, is TREX a requirement for BI Accelerator?

    Hi,
Search and Classification (TREX) provides SAP applications with numerous services for searching, classifying, and text-mining in large collections of documents (unstructured data) as well as for searching in and aggregating business objects (structured data). TREX processes documents in a wide variety of formats and in more than 30 languages.

    Hi there,
I just read this thread, and maybe someone here can answer my current trex question:
I have created an ordinary CM repository, and created an index with this repository as source. Now the problem: I would like to exclude files in the repository with specific mimetypes from the TREX indexing process.
I have verified that the TrexValidMimetypes.ini does not contain any reference to the Mimetypes I'm creating, but never the less, the document titles are searchable and are returned when searching.
How do I get around this issue?
Is it possible in NW04 or EP6.0 SP3 PXXX??

  • TREX version required for IB

    Hi,
We have installed WebAS 6.40 with BW 3.5 SP18 and content 3.5.2. On standalone Java server we have EP 6.0 SP18 and CM collaboration SP18. We are planning to have Information Broadcasting for BI for which even TREX is required we have TREX 6.0. Wanted to know what minimum version of TREX is required in the landscape so that Information Broadcasting works?
If any document or link available with the info would be great.
    Regards,
    Milan

    Hello Milan,
sorry not the answer to your TREX question, but:
Why are you installing BW 3.5 SP18 with BI content 3.52 and not 3.53 ? This is out for more than half a year or longer ...

  • QUESTION OF FULL TEXT SEARCH IN R/3 4.6C USING TREX IN EP 6.0 SP9

    Hi all:
I can use R/3(46c) plus content server(6.3) to store
Documents by KPRO.I've installed EP(6.0 sp9) plus Trex(6.1sp9).I want use this Trex to implement full text search,I can see the index id in the trex_xx\index directory.when I use tcode skpr07,I can find no problem,But when I use tcode cv04n,I can not find any document, the system does not display any error.
        What's wrong?

    hi there
can anyone help me with this...
How to integrate TREX in SAP R/3 System.
I found that u r discussing abt TREX in SAP R/3. Can u people help me with the basics required for that....
I have tried TREX in SAP Enterprise Portal and its working.
Now i would like to incorporate TREx in R/3 system.
How do we do that... Is it necessary that we need to install SAP Gateway in TREX host. Or is it possible without that.
Can anyone brief me on what are the important settings to be made for that.
Also i came across the RFC destination creation for connecting TREX with the R/3 system.
I would like to know what kind of data is commonly indexed in R/3 and that too how. What is it that provides an interface for the user.
In the case of portal we  define a a KM repository as the datasource likewise in R/3 system what do we define as datasource.
I know these questions may sound very silly... pls do help
    regards

  • Questions about Trex migration

    Hello experts,
I have some questions about Trex migration.
We have to migrate our Trex instances to another Hardware type (and operating system type).
Is it somehow possible to export the Trex database (indexes etc.) on the source Trex, and then import them on the new target Trex? I ask because i found another thread in here saying that this is only possible if the source and target OS is the same, and if the source and target Trex is the same version, I donu2019t know if this is true though?
Or is it easier to just install a new Trex, and then let it rebuild index etc.? And is this a feasible way to do it?
As you can see i don't know much about Trex, so any hints and good advice is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Kenneth

    Hi Kenneth,
there are different approachs for migartion TREX.
    a) Install TREX on a new machine. And export the indexes and afterwards import the indexes. This is possible even you do not have the same TREX version. Because otherwise if you only want to upgrade your revision you just start the sapinst or install.sh at the same machine.
    b) Intstall TREX on a new machine and re-index all.
But keep in mind TREX is not BIA. Even perhapts this is the same SAP software  component.
So re-index could take about days.... not only 10 min. This depends on the type of objekts which should be indexed and of the volumne.
As well it is not recommanded in general to switch on delta. For BIA of cause but not in generel for TREX.
    Best regards
    Frank

  • CCM - Trex sizing question

    Dear all,
I'm currenlty installing CCM and Trex on a development system. I was wondering whether someone of you had an indication on what the approximate required disk space is for Trex ?
The Trex will only be used by CCM and CCM (in our dev system) will have minimal (approx. 100-200) catalog items.
    Thanks for your reply,
    Best regards,
    Kristof

    Hi
<u>TREX is mandatory for CCM2.0. TREX is a required component of the SAP CCM 2.0, even in the scenario where the search functionality would not be used (i.e. in a scenario of just navigating the hierarchial structure and selecting items) the TREX is still a requirement for publishing and indexing of the published data.</u>

  • Basic questions on Collaboration Rooms,TREX and Federated portal

    Hi All,
I have some basic doubts related to above topics.
1.In a particular collaboration room,Room admin role check box is disabled(greyed out),that means we can not add anybody as admin.other room roles like member and member admin are ok.How can I again make it enabled again?
2.In room administration under content admin->collaboration content->I can filter out the rooms available ,by giving appropriate filter search. But TREX is not installed with portal.Does this search uses TREX?
3.What is basic definition of federated portal? Is it something to do with the remote interaction of one portal with other?that means one portal iviews and other objects can be accessed through another portal. Is it True?
    Thanks in Advance,points are guaranteed
    Rani A

    Hi,
    1. This should only be the case if the user that looks at the room roles is not an administrator in the room. An administrator should be able to givte this role to other users
    2. This search can wor with TREX but it is not necessary. Please have a look at this: http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/ff/1a9442062bcd6ae10000000a155106/frameset.htm

  • TREX index for Records management in CRM

    Hi All,
Hopefully this is the correct forum to post this question, if not please let me know the correct one.
Does anyone have any information on linking TREX to RMPS?
This is to resolve an issue where the case search on business partner first and last name fields are case sensitive in the electronic desk.  In the DMWB we have ticked the Index-Relevant option but have been advised that we also need the link to TREX.
I have set up a TREX search index for the Solutions database in the past but setting this up for Records management doesn't seem to be as easy.

  • Trex can't be updated to higher levels on windows 2003 server 64 bit

    Hi gurus,
We have a portal system (EP 7.0 SP18) and a Trex 7.0 server which are
working on windows 2003 server 64 bit on the same server.
After upgrading our portal system from sp15 to sp18, we can not see
indexes on Index Administration screen. When we tried to create the
indexes from the beginning, we faced the message "An index with the samename already exists."
We thought that the level of the Trex server(25) is low which may cause
this problem and decided to update the Trex server to level 46. We
    downloaded "TREX70_46-20001842.SAR TREX 7.0 REV 46" from
service.sap.com and tried to update Trex server according to
    NW70_SPSTACK_GUIDE_SPS18.pdf.During the installation a warning
message "You started an installation of sofware for platform
i386, but SAPinst is running on platform AMD64" was given. When we
continued the installation, an error message
was shown in a message box."Running msiexec.exe failed with return code
1603:Fatal error during installation. Commandline was
    msiexec.exe/norestart/L sapmmcx86u.log/i sapmmcx86u.msi/qn" I searched
the sapmmcx86u.log and the error message says that this installation
    package is not for windows
    2003 server 64 bit.
"This installation does not support 64 Bit Windows Operating systems.
Please use the corresponding 64 Bit installation package.
Action ended 8:26:08: LaunchConditions. Return value 3.
Action ended 8:26:08: INSTALL. Return value 3.
MSI (s) (10:84) [08:26:08:578]: Product: SAP MMC SnapIn -- Installation
    failed."
We searched in OSS notes and found the note "Note 1021003 - TREX 7.00 -
Update Windows 2003 64-Bit installed from DVD"
.We did the things in the note but unfortunately nothing changed.
We tried the install revision 45,44 etc but we got the same warning and
    error messages.
    Any suggestions?
Edited by: Tolga Akinci on Apr 30, 2009 3:08 PM

    Hi Tolga,
    You face with this error, because of Trex installation package is trying to install native i386 redistributables (vcredist_x86.msi) during the process. In order to patch Trex system on x64 architecture, follow the instructions, below;
    1) Start sapinst, under your <TREX_PATCH> path
    2) Ignore AMD64 warning popup
    3) When popup appears on the "1603:Fatal error during installation." error, change temp folders on both environment variables, on my computer
    4) Download and execute "vcredist_x64.exe" then run installer
    5) After respective installation click on "Retry" button on error popup
At the end of this operation, your Trex patch will be succeeded. Please do not forget to undo your temp directory settings, on your Trex host. I hope that it is clarify your question.

  • Best Practice for Distributed TREX NFS vs cluster file systems

    Hi,
We are planning to implement a distributed TREX, using RedHat on X64, but we are wondering which could be the best practice or approach to configure the "file server" used on the TREX distributed environment. The guides mention file server, that seems to be another server connected to a SAN exporting or sharing the file systems required to be mounted in all the TREX systems (Master, Backup and Slaves), but we know that the BI accelerator uses OCFS2 (cluster file systems) to access the storage, in the case of RedHat we have GFS or even OCFS.
Basically we would like to know which is the best practice and how other companies are doing it, for a TREX distributed environment using either network file systems or cluster file systems.
    Thanks in advance,
    Zareh

I would like to add one more thing, in my previous comment I assumed that it is possible to use cluster file system on TREX because BI accelerator, but maybe that is not supported, it does not seem to be clear on the TREX guides.
That should be the initial question:
Aare cluster file system solutions supported on plain TREX implementation?
    Thanks again,
    Zareh

  • TREX does not index all documents fro document class SOLARGNSRC

    Hi all,
I've setup a connection between a TREX server (which is also used by a portal system) and Solution Manager. I've gone through the settings in SAP Note 750623 and I was able to create a index, the queue and even bypass the basic authentication in the preprocessing for document class SOLARGNSRC
According to everything I've read, this should be enough to be able to index all documents in Solution Manager and find them with Full Tex Search. But this doesn't work. From the 50.000 documents in de class (35.000 English and 15.000 German) only 6300 documents are passed to TREX. Most of them are German HTML links to help.sap.com. I can see in the trace files that the URL's to some documents in the content server are passed to TREX. I can open dthe document using the links but I cannot find the documents using the full text search which I think means that nothing was really indexed.
    Questions:
    1. Has anyone been able to succesfully index Solution Manager documents for full text search purposes?
    2. Why are only 10% of the documents passed to TREX? Is there a specific setting for this?
    3. Why does TREX use the Content Server HTTP links to index the documents and not the RFC connection?
    Cheers

Return Code? Interesting, I don't get an return code when I trigger the Index/Deindex. I just see the hourglass for about 5 minutes (when I run it in the foreground) and after that its back to the way it was. No messages. Nothing appears in the application logs as far as I can see.
The program RSTIRIDX  is scheduled in the background and runs every hour minutes for about 10 seconds without an error.
    TREX Version 7.00.39.00
Five languages actived, including German and English. In SKPR07 under Indexed documents I can see that 300 German and 6000 English documents have status indexed.

Thnx for your help. I posted a message with SAP as well as this seems strange to me.
