TREX upgrade and index corruption

What are the dangers with upgrading TREX 6.1 from SP 9 to SP 16?
Is there the possibility that the existing indexes get corrupted?
Thanks, Davide

Hi Davide,
There is no danger of upgrading from TREX 6.1 SP9 to TREX 6.1 SP16.
Indexes do not get corrupted with the upgrade.

  • Trex Upgrade: importHost_61_70.py does not work !!

    Hello,
I am upgrading TREX server from 6.1 to 7.0 following SAP Upgrade Guide
"Upgrade from TREX 6.1 to SAP NetWeaver 2004s TREX (TREX 7.0)".
Old TREX system (6.1) is installed on machine called sapportaldes, and
new TREX system (7.0) is installed on a separate machine called
    trexdesarrollo.inta.es (same operating system).
I did the export in old trex system with script exportHost_61_70.py ,
and It generated a zip file. Export was ok !!
Then, I copied export zip file to the new trex system and execute
    importHost_61_70.py script.
When I execute teh script, I get Windows pop up "Windows can not open
    this file",
I am not able to import index on new trex server...
    Any idea¿?
    Thanks and Regards

    Hello Noemi,
Please verify that user <sid>adm in the new TREX 7.0 server, is assigned to administrators group of windows local groups, then try again. In addition verify if you can open the file independently of python tool, this is with the windows zip tool.
I'm having an error with import script too. I just sent a message to SAP Support so I wait for what they can tell me. This is the error detail if you can help me.
    Thanks and regards.

  • Table files and Index files 2GB on Windows 2003 Server SP2 32-bit

I'm new to Oracle and I've ran into the problem where my Table files and Index files are > 2GB. I have an Oracle instance running version 10.2.0.3.0. I have a number of tables file and index files that have a current files size of 1.99GB. My Oracle crashes about three times a week because of a "Write Fault/Failure. I've detemined that the RDBM is trying to write a index or table files > 2GB. When this occurs it crashes.
I've been reading the Oracle knowledge base that it suggest that there is a fix or release of Oracle 10g to resolve this problem. However, I've been unable to locate any fix or release to address my issue. Does such a fix or release exist? How do I address this issue? I'm from the world of MS SQL and IBM DB2 and we don't have this issue. I am running and NTFS files system. Could this be issue be related to an Windows Fix?
Surely Oracle can handel databases > 2GB.
Thanks in advance for any help.

After reading your response it appears that my real problem has to do with checking pointing. I've included below a copy of the error message:

  • Conforming and Indexing Errors, Media Pending, Audio won't play in timeline

I'm working on a desktop PC which is running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and Adobe Premiere Pro (version CS5.5). It's currently utilizing a second gen. 3.4Ghz i7 2600 processor, 16GB of 1600Mhz RAM, 64GB solid-state drive and a ASUS P8Z68-V Intel Z68 Motherboard with onboard audio (Realtek ALC892 chipset) and onboard video. My problem is this:
The conforming and indexing of all of my imported media never seems to finish regardless of how many times I reopen the project file and wait for it. On the lower right-hand portion of the screen, next to the conforming/indexing progress bar, is a little red "X". When clicked, it pops up with a list of errors that read: "An unexpected error occurred while performing a conform action on the following file...". As a result, my audio channels have no waveform and during playback there are no audible tones or levels. On some video clips there's just text that reads "Media Pending". This only appears to happen with project files that I saved on external hard drives, and I suspect it has something to do with the Media Cache Files folder and how Premiere Pro locates these conform/index files. I've also encountered this problem in CS3 and CS4.
    I have a few questions:
    1) How do I avoid error messages in regards to indexing and conforming
    2) How do you know when indexing/conforming has completed itself? (there doesn't seem to be a progress log or a list of commands/executions)
    3) Indexing and conforming appears to be an automatic process, but is there a way to do it manually?
    4) What's the best way to setup your media cache files when you click EDIT > PREFERENCES > MEDIA?
    5) If I have approximately 1 hour of footage, what's an average wait time for conforming/indexing? What about 5 hours of footage? 10?
    6) Adobe recommends not editing until the conforming and indexing has completed itself-- how important is this?
    7) Sometimes it appears as though the conforming and indexing has finished, but then I still have problems with playback. Do I have to reopen the project for it to continue with the conforming/indexing progress? I've already determined that the video file I'm working with is intact and free of any corruption.
I'm fine with having to wait for a project to conform and index, but it never seems to complete itself! Any help regarding this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Harm filled in pretty much all the salient details, but I'll do another pass here.
    1) How do I avoid error messages in regards to indexing and conforming
Two parts here.  One, conforming only happens for certain media files, ie the ones where performance is critical and we can't depend on extracting the audio fast enough for realtime playback.  That's basically anything in an .mpeg wrapper, or AVCHD material.  So if you edit XDCAM HD/EX or P2, or RED, or even AVIs or QT, those formats don't require audio conforming.
If you're stuck editing AVCHD or MPEG2, then it needs to conform.  But, that being said, you shouldn't be getting errors in the first place. I think it's related to your external drives.  More below...
    2) How do you know when indexing/conforming has completed itself? (there doesn't seem to be a progress log or a list of commands/executions)
Nope, you have a progress status bar indicating which file it's working on.  If there's an error, it shows up in the events panel.
    3) Indexing and conforming appears to be an automatic process, but is there a way to do it manually?
    No.
    4) What's the best way to setup your media cache files when you click EDIT > PREFERENCES > MEDIA?
While some people like having the check box for having the conform files beside the media, I hate it.  Yes, it means that if you move the project to a different system & reopen, it means that you potentially can avoid recreating CFA files, but I find the drive littering not worth it.  I much prefer having setting the Media prefs to point to a specific media drive.  Usually a raid, if available.  Definitely not an external drive that you disconnect & walk away with.  If you don't have a permanent raid on your system, then preferably a dedicated internal drive for media (think along the lines as your Photoshop 'scratch disk').  Failing that, leave it on your C: drive, although with a 64 Gig SSD, you probably don't have much room for transient temporaries.
    5) If I have approximately 1 hour of footage, what's an average wait time for conforming/indexing? What about 5 hours of footage? 10?
Like Harm said.  Totally dependant on the media container & the speed of your drive i/o.  The conforming is iterating through the entire file & pulling audio data, so it's not CPU intensive, it's all i/o.
    6) Adobe recommends not editing until the conforming and indexing has completed itself-- how important is this?
If you're trying to play/scrub while conforming, it's going to be pokey.  Esp. if you're trying to access the file that's actively being conformd.  As I just said, we're hitting the files for all the audio.  The i/o is being saturated already, so unless you have a stellar raid, you don't have much headroom.
    7) Sometimes it appears as though the conforming and indexing has finished, but then I still have problems with playback. Do I have to reopen the project for it to continue with the conforming/indexing progress? I've already determined that the video file I'm working with is intact and free of any corruption.
You should be good to go.  Sounds like there's something else at play here.
Okay, back to what I think is wrong:  you don't mention what kind of external drives you're using.  You're making a bad assumption that blowing away conformed files & doing a reconform is buggy - I doubt it, as that's the same process that happened when you initially brought in the files.  I've blown away my media cache folder multiple times and have never seen failures on reconform.  So it's got to be one of two things:  either a read error from the source when attempting to pull the audio, or a write error to the destination.  Now I don't know where you currently are pointing the media cache directory, or what your source drive is, so I can only speculate.
My suggestion is to do some elimination.   Copy one of the files that failed on you to your C drive, & target your media cache directory also to C:.  Pick a new project, import your copied file, confirm that it conforms correctly & behaves.   Then, try to use the same clip from your external drive, keeping the media cache to C:.  If that's still good, then try targeting another (local/internal) drive as your media cache target; close/restart, then import the clip from C:, and then import the clip from your external drive.  This troubleshooting should give us something.
PS, if you're trying to edit from external USB drives, good luck.  I find it a major PITA that I avoid as much as possible.  Firewire isn't much better.  I know some people do it successfully, but I think it's a road fraught with peril.  These devices are generally not designed for heavy duty I/O and a flaky connection or drive is nothing but pain.
    Cheers

  • RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10

As the title says, RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10. Any ideas for recovering or importing the x5 TOC and index?
Before this is suggested, auto-create is not an option.

    Hi there
Perhaps give this a try. From the Project Manager pod, right-click the Table of Contents area and choose "New Table of Contents". Give it a name and enable the "Copy existing Table of Contents" check box. Then click the Ellipsis icon on the far right side. See if you have a .HHC file in the folder. Odds are, you will. That will be the existing (missing) TOC.
Hopefully that will work. If so, repeat the process for the index.
I think when upgrading the project something goes wrong with naming.
Let us know if this helps... Rick

  • IOT index corruption

    Hi all,
We have this problem on production, one of the partitioned index organized table throws " invalid rowid" while doing full table scan. After running DBVerify, the corrupted block has been identified and it is related to an index corruption. So it a logical corruption problem, blockrecover won't help here. Index_organized_table(IOT) is not supported by dbms_repair(). What are the options out there to reduce the loss of the data, since the recent two backups already contain this corrupted block. We don't really want to restore back to that far.
    version: 10.0.2.3

    Merry Christmas to you all

I was a little surprised that you get "invalid rowid" on an IOT (is that ORA-01410 or is it ORA-13412 from Spatial ?) since IOTs don't "do" rowids - but them I remembered overflow segments, so I assume your error must be that the IOT TOP is pointing to an IOT OVERFLOW entry that doesn't exist.
A couple of quick checks - can you exchange the corrupted partition out ? It's probably easier to deal with it as a standalone IOT that as a partition of an partitioned table ?
Can you run a query like 'select max(last column of primary key), count(*) from IOT' - to check that the IOT TOP it self-consistent. Can you hint this to work as an "index "full scan" and as an "index fast full scan" ? (If you have a single column PK, use a column that is guaranteed to be in the TOP rather than the OVERFLOW)
Has Oracle Support suggested querying data with events 10231 (skip corrupted blocks on tablescans) and/or 10233 (skip corrupted blocks on index operaiotns)set ? This may not help as it's possible that the blocks skipped have to be marked as corrupted through dbms_repair (or equivalent) - but it's possible that it will dump the corrupted block into the trace file. (10232 can also cause corrupted blocks to be dumped)
If you can skip the corruption, then 'create new IOT as select from old_IOT' and exchange back in with a small loss of data.
If you can't skip the corruption but can dump the bad block then you can decode the PKs for that block and create a copy as:
"select from IOT where PK < first PK in bad block union all select from IOT where PK > last PK in bad block" - forcing index range scans for both parts of the query.

    Thanks!

    hi
I think you won't see any summary on this, only when corruption is found.
There is also one related setting that can be incorporated here - see example:
Example 2-25 Specifying Corruption Tolerance for Datafile Backups
This example assumes a database that contains 5 datafiles. It uses the SET MAXCORRUPT command to indicate than no more than 1 corruption should be tolerated in each datafile. Because the CHECK LOGICAL option is specified on the BACKUP command, RMAN checks for both physical and logical corruption.
    RUN
    +{+
    SET MAXCORRUPT FOR DATAFILE 1,2,3,4,5 TO 1;
    BACKUP CHECK LOGICAL
    DATABASE;
    +}+
use this to see clear output:
-- Check for physical corruption of all database files.
         VALIDATE DATABASE;
-- Check for physical and logical corruption of a tablespace.

  • Just upgraded - and took a big performance hit

As prompted, I upgraded Safari and Leopard just an hour ago, and my computer has been lagging ever since. My word processor (Mellel) labors over every letter, web sites groan to display themselves, and even typing this brief message is a chore.
    Is this just me?

    Is this just me?
Yes, it's just you. Unfortunately, it's hard to say what it may take to get you back to normal. These sorts of things happen when you upgrade over an already corrupted system. Since you didn't provide any information on exactly what you did, how you did it, in what order, or over what system level I can only stab at possible solutions.
    First, try the following:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Afterwards I would suggest downloading the standalone Safari 3.1 upgrade and the Leopard Combo upgrade from Apple's Download Site. Reinstall the upgrades. Be sure when you do the upgrades that no other applications are running and that you do not use the computer in any way until the upgrades are completed.
    Second, do some maintenance:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.6.1 is Leopard compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that presently AppleJack is not compatible with Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    8. Data Backup (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.

    Hi,
We are planning to upgrade our TREX server from 6.1.17.0 to 7.0 release 50. What is the procedure to be followed ? Where is the official upgrade guide in service.sap.com ?
    Thanks,
    Murali.

    Hello,
Please refer the upgrade guide in SMP. Release & Upgrade guide --> Inst & Upgrade Guide --> SAP NetWeaver --> SAP NW 7 --> Upgrade --> Upgrade - Standalone Engines (SAP NW Search and Classification TREX ).
You can find and upgrade document for upgrade to 7.0 from 6.1 in the TREX upgrade column.

  • TREX is not indexing certain excel files

    Hi Experts,
TREX is not indexing certain excel-files correctly. I get a "no message found error" (14047) Trex: Preparation failed: index operation by certain excel files - but not by all. I found out what they have in common: some have filters activated and some have a lot of columns or rows.
Is there any way to avoid these errors and index them correctly?
    TREX: 7.0.47
    Portal: 7.01 SP7
    Thank you in advance
    Best Regards
    Norman

    Hi Norman,
Did you review note 1528705?  It has a fix for this issue.
    Best regards,

  • CS 4 vs CS 3 - Quick Search and Indexing Improvements???

Our firm is currently using CS3 Bridge and Spotlight for image archiving and retrieval.  The indexing time is horrendous
given the volume and size of images.  The Spotlight interface is not that intuitive and looking at solutions
that include upgrading to CS4.  I would greatly appreciate any feedback regarding CS4 and potential
improvements with search and indexing of images.

As a big fan of Bridge I sure would advice you to upgrade to CS4 because it
is a far more stable version. However I use it not for Digital Asset
Management and I also think Bridge is still not ready for this job because
they still have no good cache management system for it.
It is an exclelent application for ingestion files, sorting, rating adding
metadata renaming and start to develop in ACR. For this I use it daily to
    great satisfaction.
However I have an archive with over 40.000 files in it and I have tried to
use Bridge to index it. Not very succesful I have to confess.
I recently switched from Media Expression (before Microsoft took over it was
called iView Media Pro) to the single user version of Canto Cumulus.
Although both mentioned DAM applications are not free they are well worth
the money (Canto is a little more expensive but again worth the money)
You can get a trial version for both DAM, just try them to see which will
    suit you the best.
Also download the CS4 trial, this is certainly a good investment as you will
discover after you have tried it
    Over 30,000 photos.

  • Issue while TREX upgrade from 7.0 to 7.10 in Redhat 5

    Hi
We are upgrading the TREX  from 7.0 to 7.10 in Redhat 5
We follow the approach mention in TREX upgrade guide for Scenario Upgrade by Update
When we run the tool the insatllation run and finishes ( Having 2 steps only )
It already select the existing TREX system
    1. Set up TREX instance
    2. TREX execution phase
after that when we are checking TREX is still of old version.
Moreover we find our in /usr/sap/<SID> there is only more directory created with name <SID> having global profile and exe folder inside it but no instance folder
Please guide how to move ahead.
    Thanks

    Hi Pavan,
could you please tell me how we can make the syatem read access only before doing the upgrade TREX 7.0 to 7.10

  • OBJ$ index corrupted

    Hi,
    I have 9.2.0.8 DB enviroment and I retrieved ORA-600 [12700] error.
I followed metalink note 155933.1 to resolve this error but there is a problem.
I found that the index corrupted is I_OBJ2, an OBJ$'s index.
On these kind of index I can't perform a REBUILD or an ALTER INDEX because an ORA-00701: object necessary for warmstarting database cannot be altered occured.
So, how can I do to repair this corrupted object?
Other information : DB is not in archivemode.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.
    Alessandro.

I found that the index corrupted is I_OBJ2, an OBJ$'s index. If you are sure only index is causing trouble, you could get the index ddl statement (select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('INDEX','I_OBJ2','SYS') from dual;), then drop and recreate it.

  • Time Machine stuck on "preparing backup" and "Indexing Backup" after forced restart and install from Lion

    Hello!
I have been using Time Machine on the Time Capsule for over a month now and no problems. However when I was installing Lion it had to restart. I did not see that Time Machine was going at the time when I pushed restart until it was too late.
Now Time Machine seems to be stuck on "Preparing Backup" and "Indexing Backups". It has been nearly 20-30 minutes for Indexing and I wonder if I corrupted something or something else. If there a way I can solve this problem? Thanks!

I had this same problem, this is going to sound ridiculous but this is what I finally did. I wiped my backup, crazy right?
It's there for when your hard drive crashes, so it's not like you are going to miss much if you wipe it. Tell it to stop backing up, go to disk utility, click your external and then erase it. Go back to time machine settings and reselect it as your backup drive. It will do an initial back up again and you are good to go.
    Hope this helps.
