Tri - State Checkbox in pdf form

Hi all,
I'm using Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard to create forms. I want to include a tri state checkbox (Checked / Un-Unchecked / Crossed) in my form. There is an option to add checkboxes but they are only bi state ( Checked & Un Checked). Do you have any idea how to solve this?
Best Regards,
Sameer

I don't think it can be done, but why not ask in the Acrobat forum. This is the Reader forum. Acrobat users are more likely to come up with a method that might work than Reader users that do not use Acrobat.

    Best Regards,
    Sameer

It doesn't meet your 'design spec' Sameer, but I think many of us would just include two (Y,N) or three (Y,N,N/a) checkboxes against each question and assign them all the same name (eg 'Q1'), but ticks to the Y and N/a, and a cross to the 'N', and different export values so that only one of them can be checked.
I usually include the boxes in the original file and add a slightly bigger 'no border' checkbox in Acrobat, as I think they look better if the 'tick' is bigger than the box rather than just filling it (much like it would if done in pen and ink), but that's just a personal preference.

  • How to delete checkbox in pdf form using adobe acrobat professional 6.

I  am trying to modify a pdf form having a single layer. There are some checkboxes which i want to delete. I am using Adobe acrobat 6 professional. USing Advanced Editing tools -> Touchup Object Tool , i have try to delete the checkbox, it deletes all fields and tables in the form and there is only text left on the form. Any help would be appreciated. . Thanks@

You do not use the "Object Tool" to edit forms. There should be a "Form" menu option and under this option you will have the opton "Edit form in Acrobat". This is the way one should edit/create a form in Acrobat.

  • Script for calculations using checkboxes in PDF form

    I have 7 checkboxes, at least one must be checked, but the user may select all. Each one has a value of 800, therefore selecting all seven would give a total of (800 + 800 + 800 + 800 + 800 + 800 + 800). Selecting only two: (800 + 800), etc.
However, the last checkbox is a 50% discount for students.
I'd like the total to have this formula:
    (CheckBox1 + CheckBox2 + CheckBox3 + CheckBox4 + CheckBox5 + CheckBox6 + CheckBox7) = x
If CheckBox8 is selected, then x/2.
    I've done (CheckBox1 + CheckBox2 + CheckBox3 + CheckBox4 + CheckBox5 + CheckBox6 + CheckBox7) / CheckBox8
but in this way, I only get a value if the CheckBox8 discount is selected. Not everyone will be a student.
Excel, Access, no problem, but I'm new to javascript and pdf forms. Any suggestions?
    Isabel

Two things about Acrobat JavaScirpt and forms you should be aware of:
    1. Check boxes and radio boxes have a string value of "Off" when there is no selection is made for the field or a field within an exclusionary group of fields, fields with the same name but different export values.
    2. One can not divide by zero and expect a reasonable answer. You will get a string returned with a value of "NaN' (Not a Number), "Infinity", or "-Infinity". Those values maybe number types but the numeric field type can not display them and reports a format error. You can check this by setting the field format to 'None'.

  • Checkboxes in pdf form

Have a pdf form that i use with a coldfusion application.
The form designer used boxes as psuedo checkboxes so i replaced them with the real thing since i have to set the value programmatically.  trouble is now they display "Checkbox" to the let of each check at runtime.  Nothing appears in the designer there, naturally.
Anyone know how i can get rid of it?

    Hi,
Try setting the caption to "none" in the Object/Layout Tab.
    Good luck,
    Niall

  • Acrobat Pro collapse after trying to adjust my pdf form created in Indesign 6

I want to change the font type in in pdf form which I created in Indesign, while attempting to do so, Acrobat Pro collapse and shut down....what's the problem?
    Regards,
    Marieke

When you fix it in Acrobat, what you want to do specifically is remove whatever action is present in the button and add a "Submit a form" action to the Mouse Up event. Specify that you want to submit the entire PDF and use the mailto URL you showed earlier, making sure there are no spaces.
For it to work in desktop versions of Reader prior to 11, you need to Reader-enabled the document by selecting: File > Save as Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools
The button won't work with the native iOS PDF viewer, but certain other PDF viewers such as Adobe Reader and Readdle's PDF Expert allow you to email a filled-in form and will support the button action.

  • Error reads "Cannot save information" when trying to save my pdf form on another computer

Can anyone tell me what I have done wrong in the creation of my PDF form.   When we try to open it on another PC it comes up with another window which reads as follows:
    Cannot Save Form Information
PLEASE NOTE:   You cannot save a competed copy of this form on your computer.
If you would like a copy for your records, please fill it in and print it.
If anyone can help me, I would be greatly appreciative !
    Thanks,
    Robert

That message shouldn't show up if you use Reader 11 or DC, unless the form was created with LiveCycle Designer. It also won't happen in Reader if you Reader-enable the form in Acrobat. To do so with Acrobat 11 select:
File > Save As Other > Reader Extended PDF > Enable More Tools
The specific menu items are different for every other version of Acrobat.

  • Error message 15:3 when trying to download a pdf form from government site

"There is a problem with Adobe Acrobat/Reader (15:3)

    Hi stanleyc93647247,
Are you able to download other PDF files? What browser are you using to download the file? Have you tried a different browser? If you're using Firefox or Chrome, please see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/pdf-browser-plugin-configuration.html
If you're unable to download any PDF files, consider reinstalling Reader.

  • I have Adobe 7.0 Professional installed on my Mac. I have tried to download a pdf form from the Alaska Humanities Forum website. I click on the form and nothing happens.

Is there a reason for the pdf file to not download from Firefox on my Mac 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 with Version 10.4.11 Mac OS X operating system? I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional installed.

Further to this original post ---  OK, I uninstalled and then reinstalled the program, to no avail.  I did however get a message which I had gotten before but since I was not yet aware that the program got installed with any problems, I had not noticed... This time I took notice.  The error message was clearly what it is about, at least to a great extent.  I got this message:  Warning 20225: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item:  Adobe PDF Port Printer may be unavailable.  GetLastError:  The operation completed successfully.  So then after the reinstallation, I went into Control Panel, Printers & Drivers and made a valiant attempt to manually install a virtual printer port.  I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional installed in another computer on which I have Windows XP Pro (yes the only other computer--  I am permitted two installations for this program--  I confirmed this with Adobe), by looking at Properties and copying down exactly the text, etc. which described the names of the two possible ports, etc.  Tried to "tell" my new computer (the one which has Windows 7) that it should set up and/or look for such a virtual port, again to no avail.  I am amazed that Adobe does not allow me to even pay cash money for tech support, but they wouldn't do it.  I guess you can have just so many employees who know the programs, etc.  Anyway, as I said before I may just break down and buy the 9.0 version which the Adobe techie told me is indeed compatable with Windows 7.  He did not tell me that Windows 7 was incompatible with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional but that 8.0 is indeed incompatible.  Just googled the term "Warning 20225" along with some relevant buzz words.  I can see there is still a bit of tweaking I may be able to do before I cry "uncle!"

  • How can I get a PDF form to email to me when it is hosted online?

Ok, I'm not a coding expert, but I understand CSS and html alright.
I am trying to create a PDF form for my website: www.pantherapressdesign.com.
I have already created the forms (they are under the purchase section of the site) and when they are saved to the harddrive they work just fine. HOWEVER, when you fill them out and they open in the browser they will not submit to me (aka. I don't get them by email, even though the submit button correctly re-directs you to the thanks page).
In the fuctions of the submit button I have it set to mailto:[email protected]
When the form is saved on the hard drive (I open it from the desktop) and click submit it brings up a dialog box and asks me how I want to send it. I then choose desktop mail service, it opens it in an email and sends it.
I want customers to be able to click the form from the website - fill it out right there in the browser - and then be able to submit it to me that way.
I am assuming I must route this through the php or something, but am not sure how to do that. I have the php working for the contact from on the website, but I don't know php so I used pre-written code to do that. Is there some simple code I can drop into my php that will handle these forms? Help, please! Thanks

I looked at the Stationary form, and there are a number of things you need to change. It is currently set up to submit as "HTML", as opposed to FDF, XFDF, or the entire PDF. This is fine if you're submitting the form to a web server, which can read the field data, place it in an email, and send it off. This is actually much preferred to relying on the user's machine being set up properly to send an email. Many are not and not receiving order that someone thought was submitted will be bad for your business. Consider removing the existing forms today and you can update when they are working.
Your web hosting service likely has a PHP script that is designed to work with HTML forms and send an email with the form data included. This can work with a PDF form if the form is correctly set up. To do that, you will need to know how the script works and what it is expecting in the way of form data when it processes a submission. The PHP script should also be modified to send an appropriate response back to the user, which can be a simple redirect. The way you have it now with a link to the redirect page is wrong. It goes there whether the form is complete or not and whether the email actually got sent. This can be avoided by having the web server take care of this.
If you don't have the expertise to modify the form to suit the PHP script and PHP script to suit the workflow, you'll need to find someone who does.

  • Jave script in PDF Forms

I'm know axactly nothing about JAVA.   So I apologize in advance if i don't make much sense.
I am trying to create a PDF form where you enter one value in a field and that changes other
    values in multiple fields.
I'm not really sure how to explain what i want to do..
I have a form that has multiple "question fields that change depending on  a single protocol field above the questions.  for example
    protocol 6
    has questions
    1
    2
    3
    3a
    4
    5
    5a
    5i
    6
    6a
    where protocol 26
    has questions
    1
    2
    3
    4
If needed I could post a picture of the form on here for people to look at.

I have a form that has 8 question boxes.  The only thing that i have to change is the
question name depending on the protocol selected.
some protocols have only 4 questions labeled
    1-4
but others like my original post will have
    1
    1a
    2
    3
    4
    5
I would like to figure out a way to automate that.

  • Error In Generating the PDF Form

    Hi,

Can we debugg the Form, if yes, can body tell me how to with this process.
Any pointers would be a great Help.
    ThankQ
    Rohini.

    Hi Om,
I need to fix this issue and I had taken help from Rohini.
I will try to explain the issue in detail.
I am trying to execute Tax Reporter Transaction PU19. Iam executing Quarterly Form 941 for USA for a Tax Company and a Period. This report gives an output Log and the log had generated errors in the log section General errors and Warnings.
    The errors are :
Errors in generating the PDF Form : HR_F_941 and
Errors in generating the PDF Form : HR_F_941_SCHED_B
As we are new to the PDF Forms we don't know why the report has generated and how to find out by debugging or any other way.
So I need to find out how the above errors can be identified?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Madhan.
