Triangle with exclamation mark instead of my photo - what does it mean??

New to iPhoto, loaded photos from my camera and I can see the thumbnails but when I click on a photo it won't show up, I get a black screen with a big triangle around an exclamation mark. Obviously, I can't include them in projects or edit them or even see them full screen. Where have they gone? 5 out of about 60 are fine but I don't know why. The vast majority are somewhere in the ether. My Macbook Air 11" is the latest one, purchased Sept8.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

Ok so this is what happened, trying to get to the recovery partition.
after boorting the screen was on a complete blank white page but it was making a "click....click....click...etc'" noise until it eventually stopped clicking and the screen with a rotating globe popped up, and it asked me to choose a network. I did, but its still on that same rotating globe, with my network name under it. but its not showing me any progress or notes or anything....

Shouldn't really be the MPE at fault here ... what is the codec of the footage/sequence/project?
Second, can you create a new project in PrPro, then in the media browser, import that sequence from the other project?

this means the mac cannot find the startup disc. which more times than not means you need a hdd replacement.
try starting holding the option key, then using utilities try to repair the disc.

Repair your Apple software update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install

I did a search on my system and found the Photoshop has a fastcore plug-in. Creative Cloud includes a subscription version of CS6 version 13.1.2. I do not know if you installed that or not. The cc un-install may have done something. You may need to use Adobe Cleaner then Install The Perpetual CS6 version of Photoshop CS6 version 13.0.6 Mac or Photoshop CS6 version 13.0.1.3 PC and not the subscription CS6 extended version 13.1.2. Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6 If you need to download the CS6 installer Download CS6 products.
You may also be able to recover your cs6 using an old system backup

I had been getting this all morning and checked other messages from the community. THe one which worked was trying a different brand of disc.
I had been using Verbatim which had copied the music fine off the Real Player on my PC at school, but wouldn't work with I Tunes. Tried a Staples and an Office Depot CD-R , both of which did the job.

If that fails:

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

I recently ran the Utility Disk and was verifying the Hard Drive due to some permission issues and found a problem. It told me to run the application startup disk to do another diagnostic which I did. It confirmed there is an issue and gave me the following code = 4MEM/6/4000000:6x7a5db418. What does this code mean and how can I go about fixing the problem? Any wisdom with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

the meanings to those codes are not made public and only Apple certified technicians have access to them.

Exclamation Mark instead of my photo's

I know someone asked this below but I need to start from scratch!
I don't know what I have done to make this happen, it happened when I first bought my iMac just over a year ago and Apple sorted it over the phone but unfortunately I can't remember what they told me to do, I rang them this evening and for £36 they will tell me over the phone what to do....eh no thanks!!
Can someone please help me try and fix this
