Trick Edit Suggestion Help? - Magician Needed :-)

I have a VHS of a local concert from 20 years ago that I am editing in FCP. The original cam apparently had a tape/dirty head/cam problem in spots because every now and then the picture will entirely drop out to a 0.5 - 1 second long gray frame. The audio track of the music is fine throughout but since the picture drops out for a blink I need a trick to make the video flow with the music. A short audio/video edit won't work because the music will then be choppy. Slowing down the clips on both sides and then joining them still shows a slight jump since there was a brief dropout of actual video.
Any suggestions to make this thing look somewhat professional?

Well there's lots of things you could do but I guess the problem is I am not across the style of your piece.
It sounds to me like you want to make it fairly authentic to the original piece, and this is where you may have the problem. If you were to say jump out of that idea and then do a myriad of quick 1 frame edits from all different bits of your original clip and then just bang them together over the messy bit then you might create something pretty fun, you might also like to experiment with quick cuts of white (1 frame)in the same place. For me the trick in editing is to work with what you have, (its just like one big electronic jigsaw puzzle!) Good luck and don't be scared to do something new.

Yes, we are talking about FCP X...this is the thing:
I worked on a project a few days ago and went to share - export movie.
Today, i opened the FCP again, to make some changes, and when i enter to the project, it shows me as one big clip.....i dont see it says compound clip....and i tried anyways pressing break appart clips...but nothing....could it be that i made it compound before exporting it..? if so how can i recover the un-compound version >?
I tried to import the saved .mov file, but it opens the same....as one long clip...
Pls help...thanx.

I previously had a problem with my Laptop dying randomly you can read about it in the thread entitled Computer dies Randomly (Battery also dead) click to view
Before I realised the solutions, I thought that maybe my Laptop had become infected with a Virus and decided it would be prudent to do a clean install of the Windows XP operating system.
Everything went perfectly and thought a clean install was a good opportunity to download the “XP Service Pack 3” SP3 and did so, it seemed very quiet though and that’s when I realised I had no sound…
I downloaded all of the sound drivers I could find on the Lenovo site for 3000 N100 (I knew from previous experience that the “SOUNDMAX” driver is the only one that actually works with this 3000 N100) in order to install this you have to install the Realtek HD audio driver, but in order to install that you have to install some other Driver/Soft that only works with SP1 or SP2 if you try to install it with SP3 it will say that you don’t need the file as your Service pack is newer than the file you want to install, this is understandable as SP3 is not final as of yet (but it’s good to know).
My next problem was that my extra RAM was not detected, this was fixed by updating the BIOS, after installing all of the System updates, PC Doctor, everything I could find for 3000 N100 I decided to rest, I pushed the Lenovo care button and it did not work, I found a hot key driver and installed it but still the Lenovo care button does not work, previously when I pushed this button it would bring up the Lenovo menu but now it’s just a dead button, Does anyone know how to get this button working again?
I am pretty sure that everything else is working fine now, just that button not working is very annoying, is there a set routing of installs you must do to get everything working, i.e. bios 1st audio 2nd system update 3rd etc...

Ok first everything works now... except the Lenovo Care button, I just posted the other stuff cause it might help other members, I have searched the forum for an anwser to this problem but there was only one anwser (suggesting to uninstall the driver restart and re-install it) and it did not result in a working Lenovo Care button...
I don't beleive the Lenovo keyboad drivers are in any way related to the Service pack 3 as they do not use the Service pack files, to back this up I also had the same problem when Service Pack 2 was installed...
The Lenovo Care button works fine on Boot up screen to access the rescue and recovery software (So the mechanics of the button are fine) but once Windows XP loads it is just a dead button, I remember it used to open up the Lenovo Care Start bar, I got it working once in the past but I can't remember what I did, I thought someone here might know the anwser...

well, I don´t know if this works for any table, but I tried two of mine and it was ok:

If the string gets too long, you must use dbms_lob - functions for string manipulation, but for "normally sized" tables, it should work.

Well, what you can do is now is ignoring the WQHL pop-up window and choose the "install anyway" option during the installation of the soundcard driver, since WQHL only means the driver is tested by Microsoft and nothing more; drivers without the WQHL qualification does not mean they are bad drivers, they usually works as good as the WQHL ones.
Ofcourse you can also download the official drivers for the mentioned Soundblaster li've 24bit at Creative Labs support/download site.

Excel to PDF editable form help...

I have a price sheet that I have made in excel that has a quantity column for all our products and a total column that has a formula that multiplies the quantity they enter times the price of our product. Then at the bottom I have a total field that adds it all up. It is VERY basic. Is it possible to transfer this over to PDF and keeping the formulas? And somehow making the fields editable? Basically I need it to do these functions in an editable PDF because not all our clients have excel.
If I need to start from scratch in Acrobat, let me know the best way to do this since I am not familiar with the forms functions. I

Start by creating a PDF from the Excel file.
Then you'll want to study up on using the form field tools available in Acrobat Pro.
Doing simple calculations shouldn't be too hard to pick up from the help files in Acrobat so give it a shot then come back if you have specific questions/issues.

Help I need to locate a driver for my soundblaster live 24 bit soundcard

My son has been given the following PC games for christmas:-
Command & Conquer 3,
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3,
Arma; Armed Assault,
Medal of Honour: Airborne
The problem he is having installing these 4 games is this. About half way through installation an error message appears that quite simply states "The software you are installing does not bear a WHQL signed driver. This software will not be installed".
The PC we are running is a Dell Dimension 900, that we purchased about 4 years ago, and it was bespoke.
I have run DxDiagnostics and it tells me that the driver for the graphics card is called p7.sys and the sound card are not WHQL logo'd, so how the hell do i download a driver for my soundblaster Li've 24 bit, that does? bear a digital signatre that is WHQL Logo'd. I hope you can help, me please.

Today is edit day--HELP!

I've mentioned this in an earlier post. We shot in HD on a sony hdr fx-1, but edited offline in DV on FCP 5.0. Now, our issue is how to get project back to HD. Can anyone offer a step by step how-to...we are editing this morning and need to get it done...almost panic time!
We don't have a deck or any cards. Just our camera and the computer with firewire. The project is only 3 minutes long. Our editor is quote knowledgeable but we have read too many different opinons as to how to get it back to HD...

MM autmatically creates a new project for you, so renaming a copy of your project, after making two additional backup copies, may not be absolutely necessary, though extra precautions never hurt.
Also, using MM to create a new project, with "offline" media, with unused media removed, leaves all your original media untouched. If you were using MM to move, copy or otherwise destructively change your already-captured media, I'd recommend backing up your capture scratch. But I use MM all the time to create media-removed offline projects, and have never seen my Offline RT media go missing at that step.
I'd recommend:
1. Do make a backup of your project.
1a. Export a self-contained movie of your Offline RT sequence for use in checking the recapture.
2. Select the sequence(s) you wish to MM in the browser and choose Media Manager from the context menu. Create Offline - remove unused - sequences set to HDV or desired codec - add handles of 1-5 seconds.
3. Save the new project created by MM. You may wish to relaunch FCP at this point, in addition to whatever other pre-capture Mac voodoo rituals you observe, such as trashing prefs, repairing permissions, verifying scratch disks, or sacrificing small animals.
4. If you didn't do it in the last step, you may wish to run easy setup (HDV) and check your scratch disks, and possibly back up the MM project, though at this point it has only a sequence or two and no captured media associated with it, and it would only take 1 minute or less to recreate it from your offline sequence.
5. Before capturing, open up the bin of master clips in the browser and verify that the unused media has acutally been removed by checking the media start and end times.
6. Select the sequence and choose batch capture form the context menu. I will usually interrupt the batch every couple of tapes to save the project.
7. Bring in your self-contained RT movie and lay it on a track in your recaptured sequence - turn that track off so rendering is not required. now step through the edits in your sequence and double-clik the RT clip to open the match frame into the viewer. In this way, you can verify that you have recaptured the correct clips, and that no FCP errors have occurred.

Even my iPod says "Use iTunes to Restore" once in a while, but I plug it in & I'm not able to restore it since it won't come up under iTunes.
