Tricky Icloud restore issue

My son started using an ipad2 at school this year and recently had it replaced due to a hardware issue. We backed his data up to icloud before handing the device over. I have now gone through the restore process and reinstated all his apps. However it turns out that one of his apps - Pages - was installed with a friend's user ID. Seems there has been a lot of this going on at school.
I deleted the placeholder app (it hadn't downloaded as I didn't have the friend's credentials naturally) and then bought Pages and installed it. However there is no Pages data on the Ipad now. I assume when I deleted the not-yet-installed Pages it took the data with it.
How do I get my son's Pages data from the Icloud backup? If I wipe the Ipad it wants to reinstall Pages with the friend's ID, not the version I have purchased. When I delete the friend's version the data is gone. Restores from Icloud appear to be a completely user non-configurable process.
Any solutions greatly appreciated.

Restores from iCloud assume that the user does not have apps/data tied to other people's IDs.  I don't see a way around your problem.

  • ICloud Restore Issue?!

I recently updated to the iOS 8 Beta on my iPad Mini and when I went to restore from an iCloud Backup it is saying that I need to enter the password for [email protected] which is NOT my Apple ID that is used on my iPad Mini. I am really confused as to how/why this is happening and I'd really like it resolved as I cannot restore my iPad Mini now since I don't know the password.

    Same issue here.
After Upgrading iPhone 5c icloud says - there are no backups in icoud.
How we can make a restore from icloud after ios8 Beta update

  • Help!! iCloud Restore Issue!!

Please help!! I am so desparate!! OK, for about a week now ~ 9 apps have stalled during an update ~ and I cannot get them out of it. It says they are updating ~ and I cannot open them ~ and they have been stuck like this for almost a week. But honestly ~ right now I could care less. I messed up in trying to fix it. I was in another forum which discussed this issue ~ and everyone was thanking a Mac Tech for finally being able to help them with the update stall. He said to "Reset All Settings". I did this without further research ~ and it did an iCloud update ~ but apparently my last backup was in April as my storage was full. I did not even know~~ Honestly ~ I had never even played with it. I had everything on default settings. So problem #1 ~ it did not help the apps complete their update. So this was all for nothing because problem #2 ~ the BIG problem .... my text messages!! Everything from April up to today are just gone!! All of my business texts ~ special texts ... all just gone!!
I have been in tears for hours!!

Essentially it would mean another Internet connection yes, however it's your local network that I am wondering about and whether it could be the problem.

  • ICloud Restore Issues

Yesterday I decided that I wanted to sync my iPad with my laptop instead of my desktop, since my desktop is about to die. I was fully aware that Apple doesn't allow you to do this without essentially resetting the iPad. I was OK with this because I believed that those things I designated for iCloud backup would be safe and secure as I have backed up to the "cloud" on lots of occassions.  However, I go there today and discover that none of my Notes are in the "cloud".  There is only one that I really want, and I really, really want it. Someone please let me know where I can find it.  Thanks.

Here's a reply. You suck just as much....by not posting what you did to fix it. You're mad because no one helped you but you offer no help to someone else who might be having the same issue.

  • ICloud storage issue; Restoring iPhone calendar from iMac after accidental iCloud deletion

I set up iCloud to back up calendars and contacts and for find my phone.  Initially, it seemed to work alright.  Then I got messages on iPhone that there wasn't enough iCloud storage, even though the storage tab showed that I had used none of my iCloud storage at all.  So I turned off iCloud/contacts.   In iTunes I switched back from iCloud backup to backup from my iMac.
Later I got the same message about not enough room in iCloud even though only calendars involved.  So I truned off iCloud/calendar on my iPhone and was given the choice of keeping the calendars from the iCloud or deleting them (a foolish choice without a failsafe!!!).  I clumsily and mistakenly hit delete.  My calendars have most recently been synced with my new iMac and appear on the iMac and should also be in TM.  But right now there is no data in my iPhone calendar.
When i go to calendars within the iiphone calendar there is a check next to Calender under "from MY Mac" and no reference to iCloud.  (There are no separate calendars for me, my wife, and joint.  Does this mean somehow these calendars have been merged because of iCloud?)
I don't want to do another sync until I can make sure that the sync with the iMac will resotre the calendar(s) to the iPnone.  How do I do this?
Do I have to do anything on the iMac before I try a sync?
How do I avoid these problems in the future?  The only thing I really would like from iCloud is "find my phone".  How do I keep that capability without backing up or su=yncing otherwise anything through iCloud?
    Is iCloud still Beta?

Apple walked me through this and helped me revert to backing up on my iMac, using iCloud only for find my iPhone and iMac.  The process, however, is not straightforward and what the respective mac and iPhone support people (yes, they have that kind of specialization) led me through was clearer, if somewhat convoluted, than any instructions on Apple's support or community pages.
Since my main concern was not losing my calendar and contacts information, the key was saving that, via export, to my desktop.  Sorry I didn't write down all the other steps - but I see that as Apple's job.  Back in the days of the IIC, Apple's manual was a model of clarity and completeness at the same time.
Bottom line is while my immediate concerns were resolved, the underlying iCloud storage issue was not.  On my iPhone, I was being told that my attempts to backup to the iCloud failed because I didn't have enough storage, even though I determined almost none of my alloted space was used.  This issue is not helped by the multiplicity of settings relating to iCloud, or the interfaces (such as the iCloud on the iMac through Mavericks) which present a screen of icons without additional information.
For my purposes, iCloud remains Beta.

  • ICloud restoring outdated apps

I have a bit of a problem here. I have a few apps that won't install from the app store with an iCloud restore because they are no longer in the app store. I didn't know iCloud restored apps fresh from online. So.. I synced the apps from iTunes after I got the error that iCloud restore wasn't complete because of this and now I guess iCloud won't restore the app data I uploaded for those apps. Is there anyway to get that data back?

Ok... I've had iOS 5 since release and everything was fine. Some reason I got the boot screen and wouldn't go away so I had to restore. I did a complete fresh restore in DFU mode to get a clean install. Every app I had on my phone last night was synced to iCloud before this happened. Now... when I restored in iTunes I used the welcome app ON the phone and restored from iCloud backup. Because the REMOVED apps were not in the app store anymore it would not load that app data and it won't let you sync your phone on iTunes via the computer because that is how iCloud works. So after the incomplete iCloud restore finished. I synced my apps and music with iTunes and now I have ALL my apps back on my phone. But since you have to restore from iCloud backup right when the phone is restored then I am not able to sync the apps before I restore from backup.
Because of all this I can't get my app data which is important for those REMOVED apps. This is a issue with iCloud with what I'm seeing. Apple needs to make a check box or something to not download your apps from the app store.
Not sure if I can be anymore clearer than this. Hopefully this helps.

  • ICloud Restore - Please Help

I have been running iOS5 on my iphone4 and MBP since release.
All of a sudden my contacts on both MBP and iphone4 have disapperared. I have not deleted them for sure. The only thing I have done was turn my phone off for about 30mins earlier today. Since then no contacts on MBP or iphone4. Everything else is intact.
Can anyone help me restore my contacts from iCloud back up which was last done yesterday?

While the backup stores some if not all the photos in the camera roll (many users have lost photos when doing a restore from iCloud), the issue is that the user must somehow sync photos to their computers (e.g. via USB to iPhoto or Aperture on a mac or a specified folder on a PC) in order to back them up.  Once on a computer, you can then move them to albums/folders as you like.  But you must back them up to a computer to be sure they are safe.  If you haven't done that, then chances are good that they are lost.

  • TS4036 iCloud restore problems

Got a replacement phone and iCloud keeps telling me it lost the Internet connection and won't back up. Is it a phone setting or defect? There is no problem with the wifi signal.

I fixed this issue after a lot of time and pain (see below)
Seems to have come up on various threads so it seems to be an issue and should be escalated by Apple. They were none the wiser at the genius bar apart from telling me the iCloud backup is probably corrupted and I should call Apple care (as if that is going to do anything)

I experienced the same problem with the iCloud restore not working properly. I had my iPhone 4 replaced as the home button was defective. When attempting to restore an 9.5GB iCloud backup from the day before it just would not work properly. Firstly, half my apps did not restore, they would begin to download showing the progress indicator then just disappear, leaving my home screen naked. No big deal as apps can be downloaded again.
However, what was a big deal for me was the 1,625 photos on my camera roll, including many of the first year of my kid's life. The camera roll would say downloading x of 1,625 photos, download a few of them, then simply stop downloading any new shots. When I would restart the phone it did not show any downloading message, it believed the restore was complete. I tried about ten different restore scenarios, listed below, all of which gave me varying results (some resulting in all my apps restoring) but all of which would only give me some of my photos back.
What was a comfort was that I once got about 700 of the shots back. So the photos were still in the cloud rather than gone and this indicated that it was the restore process or the iCloud backup on my phone that was the problem. These are the things I tried in sequence as I despairingly tried to get my photos back...
Things I tried that DID NOT work
    1) Erase all settings and attempt to restore again from scratch (four times)
    2) Tried the restore from a different WiFi network (once)
    3) Tried the restore from one WiFi network then switched to another once the restore 'hung' (once)
    4) Tried the restore from an Apple store WiFi network (once)
    5) Tried the restore from a previous iCloud backup (twice)
    6) Had Apple replace the iPhone 4 (once)
With all of these I got a varying amount of my photos and apps back before it stopped restoring. I was also making the mistake (I learnt afterwards) of opening and moving between apps during the download to check progress.
Thing I tried that DID work
    1) Did not plug the phone into my MacBook, I used the wall charger only to prevent any iTunes sync activity
    2) Erase all settings and data, restore from the iCloud backup and input passwords in all the pop up windows once it reboots.
    2) Open photos app gallery to see photos downloading and show the progress message "downloading xx of x,xxx"
    3) Left it on this photo screen and did not touch the phone at all for the entire restore. I did not close the photo galley/camera roll app once, open any other apps.
Finally this time round it work and all my photos and apps restored in full. I am going to go back to syncing with iTunes as I don't trust iCloud for restores. It seems that iCloud does not handle photo restores that well, especially if the gallery is large. In short: Wall charger only, restore from iCloud, open Photos app, don't touch. Really hope this works for you too if you've had the same issue.

  • ICloud Connectivity Issues

I'm hoping others may be able to assist me with diagnosing the cause of one of the issues with my Mac right now (without suggesting that I perform a re-install of my OS).
I have been noting issues within my Console log that I discovered when I was trying to verify why updates/additions I was performing in Reminders/Notes/Calendars were not syncing bi-directionally for any new entries done on the Mac, but updates from iOS would often come through on the OS X.
I have attempted various things including re-setting the hosts file back to the default one (and it is now effectively back in that state), I have disabled a 3rd party app-based firewall app called TCP Block and verified that OS X's Firewall is only blocking two applications (not Apple ones).
My iCloud account is actually a MobileMe account (with both an @icloud.com and @me.com email address associated).
Interestingly, I partially resolved some of my issues when I found that the Calendar application under OS X was returning 404 errors till I deleted external accounts I had linked to it and purged the Calendar Cache, but other iCloud related issues still persist.
My Machine is as follows: MacBook Pro Retina i7 2.8ghz, 16gb RAM, 512gb SSD and running OS X 10.8.5.
My console log is as follows:

Thank you for the information. I checked out the section and read it through. From what I can gather, you can start your new iPhone from an itunes backup (Set Up Iphone > Restore from iTunes Backup), but, in my situation I need to add the Files/State from the old iPhone backup to the new iPhone that was started from scratch and has it's own unique Files/State, without subtracting from either. The problem is, that I don't want to subtract anything, and from what I understand about Syncing, if I am Syncing a new iPhone that's been started up, edited, has it's own suite of apps, etc. to an old backup of a previous iPhone, I am going to lose everything new I've done, as it will sync with the previous Files/State.

  • ICloud Restore Not Resuming

I'm restoring my iPhone 4S from my iCloud backup. Everything was fine until my camera roll stopped downloading. It's stuck at "Downloading 288 of 415" of my photos. Everything else has been restored and is working fine.
I was disconnected from my wifi for a little bit (which paused the restore), and now it won't resume, even though I'm back on Wifi. Any suggestions?

  • ICloud restore Apps download while in waiting mode then disappear after

    Hi All,
When I restore my iPhone 4 from the iCloud backup, I get prompted to key in a new passcode for the phone, Facetime password, iMessage password, and my email passwords but I do not get prompted for my AppStore password.
My apps stay in "Waiting..." mode and they start downloading at that state. The moment the download completes, all the waiting apps turn white and flash (disappear and appear) and the downloaded app disappears forever (icons have shifted as if they app was deleted).
I have tried this about 7 times already and at every single attempt, I was not prompted for my AppStore password (I'm guessing the restored apps do not get authenticated/verified so they just get dumped after download).
I then tried a few more restores and thought of ways that would "interrupt" this instant download of apps (in Waiting... state). I tried shutting the phone off after I keyed in all my passwords (I have about 5 email accounts). Upon starting back up the phone, it will go on with the automatic download without asking me for my AppStore password.
I decided to try to interrupt the sequence further (in another restore attempt) but continously tapping on an application in the Waiting... state (similar to how you would pause/unpause a new app download/update). This eventually caused the AppStore login prompt. After which, one of the apps now hit Loading... state and downloading it completely will install it. All the relevant data is restored.
Now the issue is that despite being able to do this, I still lose 1 or 2 apps (one before I shutdown and before I can hammer an app enough to make it pop up the AppStore login screen). Is there some sort of delay issue with regards to the iCloud restore process? Is it possible to get the phone to prompt me for my AppStore password immediately after a restore?
I'm not sure if this is due to my iCloud backup being corrupted (upon initial restore the phone reboots and does the loading graphics and then to the apple then get stuck in the spinning icon for a while). I dont know how much more I can describe what I'm experiencing but I will gladly provide more information.

    OK...
Here's what I did to get around this problem, a slight modification of a fix for another issue...
All you need to do is Settings->General->International->Languages–>Change to British English
This will cause the Springboard to soft reset and the stuck apps will automatically resume and download themselves! Or not, in which case you can follow the steps below.
Now (very important) after perfomimng step one again, quickly go to the app that you are stuck on, move it out of its folder if necessary, to get at it more easily. Press and hold to bring up the 'x' then tap to delete. Note: You will only have few seconds, maybe 2 or 3 before the springboard finishes its refresh and the resume download kicks back in on the stuck app. Once it gets to resume restore mode, you will be unable to delete the stuck app. The rest of your apps should continue to download normally now, once the offending app is deleted. You can easily re-download that app later, once the others have finished restoring.
You can now change the language back to US English or whatever (I'm going to leave mine in the Queens English)
    Cheers! Hope this helps someone.

Yes - I connected my phone to my computer / Itunes and went into the apps section, but from there I have no idea how to manage the push notifications.  I even tryied going into itunes that is installed on my phone.  I still cannot find anyplace to manage these popups.  I have also gone into settings - notifiations - and tried turning all notifications for these apps all off but that didnt work either.  Any guidance is MUCH appreciated - Im not sure where to go from here.

  • How can i get my icloud restored back to a previous date

Does anyone know how I can get my icloud restored back to a week ago?  My two separate apple iPhones had their iCloud accounts merged and I got my personal accounts and work accounts merged.  When trying to split them back up again, I deleted all my contacts on icloud and now I can't get them back.  can i get my icloud restored?  I restored my phone, but that didn't work.  Thanks for your help.

A partition is just a section of the disk set aside for a particular purpose. In this case, we're talking about a Mac partition and a Windows partition. They have different formats, which is how the data is stored. The disks that came with your Mac will create the Mac partition when you install, but most likely you'll lose the Windows partition. You've got kind of a mess at this point. What you should do is install the Mac OS and get everything as you want it. Then run Bootcamp to create a Windows partition and let Bootcamp do the Windows installation for you. Grant gave you good advice earlier. Don't let Windows do any partitioning. That's how you got into this mess.

  • Syncing with iTunes after iCloud Restore Syncs Unwanted Apps

After I had restored my iPhones using a recent iCloud backup, some of my content such as certain videos and music needed to be installed through syncing with iTunes. All of my apps were arranged and installed as they were before the resoration. I had iTunes set to not automatically begin to sync when I plug in any of my iOS devices, so I can review the device first and then begin the sync. Upon plugging in my iPhone, I checked the applications tab, and all of the apps were arranged the way they were when I would unlock my iPhone; everything seemed normal. It would appear that the content that had not been restored through the iCloud restore would simply be installed though syncing with iTunes. The second I hit sync, iTunes began to restore my iPhone with a very early sync, as many of the apps I had deleted some time ago were being installed onto my phone, and my of the applications added since that specific sync were removed. What can I do to just have iTunes act as it should when finishing the restoration on my phone and not default to a stubborn sync? I'm currently restoring my phone from another recent iCloud backup to have all of my apps and their settings restored to how they were less than 12 hours ago.

First make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes. Use the itunes menu to check for updates and install the latest version if needed.
Reboot your computer and rest your iphone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Then release the buttons and let the device restart. No data will be lost doing this. It's like rebooting a computer.
