Tried and tried to reinstall iTunes/QuickTime but never works...

Hi,
I had a problem with iTunes since about a week ago. Basically I couldn't start it at all. It just came up with the Windows Error reporting tool - even if I reported the rror it didn't give a link to find a fix or anything.
So I've tried over and over again to fix this. Gone through the registry after removing iTunes and QuickTime, but no luck. It is a QuickTime issue, I'm pretty sure of that. I'm able to fully remove iTunes fine, but uninstalling QuickTime is where it gets difficult.
There is no uninstaller for the installation on my PC. I've reinstalled, but there's still an entry in add/remove programs for another installation of it. Now when I start iTunes, even though QuickTime 7.1 was installed with iTunes as it's part of the installer, when I start it it says my version of QuickTime is 7.0.2, and 7.0.3 or above is required.
Please, please, please can someone help me with a full manual uninstall - or provide an uninstaller maybe?! I think manually is going to be the only sure way. I've already gone through Program Files, user profiles, then searched C:\ for 'QuickTime' and deleted anything I could. Then I went through the registry and got rid of as much as I could from there. I must've missed something, maybe I need to go back through and remove anything related to Apple Computers and try again.
Another thing, I'm not sure if it's a cause ... but when I did re-install iTunes I got a strange error:
Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.
C:\WINDOWS|Installer\{C21D5524-A970-42FA-AC8A-59B8C7CDCA31}\1033.MST
So I also reinstalled the Windows Installer (3.1) and tried again, btu it still gives that error. Seems to finish the installation though, and doesnt actually fail.
So, in summary I guess I need to uninstall the latest install of iTunes and QuickTime, then work on this other QuickTime instance. If anyone can advise or help me fix this in anyway - I'd be VERY greatful!! I can't update my iPod at all....

this looks like a QuickTime issue. 7.0.2 could be a bear to extract from a PC sometimes, and sometimes didn't show up in Add/Remove.
first let's just doublecheck to make sure that you've still got the latest version of Windows Installer on the PC (there's a 3.1v1 and a 3.1v2). head into your Add/Remove programs. if there's a "KB893803" next to it, you're fine. if not, see:
Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (3.1.4000.2435) is available
now, let's see if we can get that QT 7.0.2 out of there. here's what we'll try first.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.
Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows
once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)
