Tried everything - receiver and regular Ipod volume - now what?

I have gone threw trouble-shooting instructions: Power on and off, did reset,
and restore. Got on this forum and tried the suggestion of plugging in headset over and over, both powered on and off.
Speaker works when the phone rings, when answering the caller cannot hear me unless I select "speaker" mode. Headset works with Ipod but nothing without them. I can see the volume move when using the volume control.
It appears that is is time to send to Apple, unless anyone knows of something I have missed?

Well, just tried cleaning the plug with rubbing alcohol, but still nothing.
I did not mention earlier, that everything working great. But, recently two variables were different. One was the upgrade from Apple. The second is bought a system to play over my car speaks, it is the type that is put in the tape deck. Had to get a Adapter Kit to plug that into the phone.
I bought the system, tried it and all seemed fine (but got no calls at the time). Did the upgrade that night. The next day listen to music in the vechicle was fine. When I got a call I could not be heard by the caller.
Later I found out about the Ipod not working on the regular speaker. Had not used that after the upgrade. So, not sure if either of this had anything to do the problem I am having.
I will try to keep the Headset plugged in. Don't know what else to do.
We do not have a repair center here. It was purchased at an AT & T store, but they stated they do not service them. That would result in me sending in or
driving approx. 100 miles.

My latest problem is that the Apple site will not recognize my equipment by it's serial number. I know the mini is old, but I like what it did for me and don't necessarily want to "upgrade".

Yeah, first my thought was also that... that's why I've gone to Apple and they already switched the phone twice!!!
Last time was yesterday... I posted this here because I came from Apple and with a new iPhone 5, although I didn't restore anything from iCloud, I hadn't even logged in to iCloud / AppStore, and without any event on the lockscreen my iPhone 5 was already "locked" on the unlock screen... after a mere 45m after I used it without a single App!! Ok my ipod touch syncs but not properly,I see a little icon on both itunes and the ipod rolling,itunes shows me that I have less memory available on my ipod after I sync which coresponds well in terms of memory with the ammount of songs I am loading to the ipod but I never see what I think I should see when I sync which is "do not disconnect......". Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Was it setup via wifi?
Setup via iTunes when connected to this coputer/iTunes library?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?

Since I have upgraded to iOS 7 messages on my ipad will not send. I get a red message saying not delivered I have tried everything suggested so far, still nothing.

I'm having the same problem with my Wife's old iPhone 3G. It's battery went completely dead and now all it does when I hit the power button is shows the screen that shows the animated charger/battery saying to plug it into a charger and then it shuts off. The thing is, it's plugged into a charger, I've tried several, I've tried getting into DFU mode to restore 4.2.1 and see if that would help but I can't get into DFU mode because the iPhone shuts off before it gets a chance to load I suppose.
If I find a solution that works to get the iPhone out of this quirk/bug mode it's in right now from the battery dying, I will post it here so you can fix your iPhone as well.
Best of luck with finding your solution to fix this! We're both probably going to need it because so far I've searched for the answer for the past hour and still can't get it to even start charging.

I have held the home and power keys simultaneously for 10 seconds multiple times. I plugged it into my computer and it is not being picked up by itunes. Is there anything else I can try? Or should I just throw it out?

That message usually indicates that your phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it.
Then when you updated your phone it locked back up to the original carrier.

You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/resync your content to it.
If you do it via a different computer that it's not normally synced to then (from here) :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.
