Tried PSE 8, unhappy, problems w/ PSE 5 in Win 7 Virtual

This post is frankly my last hope with Adobe.  I loved PSE 5 in Win XP.  New computer, Win 7 Pro, backed up catalog in old computer, downloaded trial of PSE 8, unable to recover catalog, just a mass of broken links.  Took backup to another computer with PSE 5, recovered catalog and all links intact.  Downloaded PSE 8 on that computer, converted files to PSE 8, backed up in 8, brought back to "new" computer, got catalog and tags, but all links broken.  All attempts to fix broken links failed.  I am completely dissatisfied with 8, and will not buy.  It froze up several times and is frustratingly slow.  Just seems not to be a good product.
Since I liked 5, set up virtual pc in Win 7, installed 5 and still cannot get it to recover from the backup.  Backup is good because it worked on the "other" computer.
Give up on Elements?  Do I gain anything going to CS5?  Sony is looking very good right now.  Any ideas?

Good suggestion.  You are absolutely right that the Editor functions are great.  I am just getting started with GIMP, and if that doesn't work out I will try just using the editor.  I have also learned that the PSE Organizer made me lazy, and now with Picasa I will have to pay a great deal more attention to how I organize folders of images.  In the end, that is a good thing because software comes and software goes, but I want to keep the images; so not relying on the software so much will make it easier to adapt in the future.  The best lessons are learned the hard way.  Thanks to all for the comments.
While I'm sure no one at Adobe give a hoot what I think, I need to say it anyway.  As a former fan, I am totally soured on Adobe products and will now seek out and use open source substitutes for Dreamweaver and Acrobat to the extent possible.  Did the bean counters take control?

  • Has anyone had a problem installing PSE Elements 8.

I have installed PSE Elements 8 from a new boxed CD onto a new Dell running Windows 7 Professional (64 Bit).
PSE has loaded without any warnings and I get to the welcome screen OK. Organiser works fine but if I try and start Edit it just circles around back to the Edit prompt. I have tried getting in via Fix in Organiser which then advises Loading Elements workspace but then drops me back to menu.
I have tried all the Tech Note suggestions but after hours of trying am still no further forward.
I even downloaded and installed the trial version but I this performs in the same way.
    All suggestions welcome.  Thanks

    No luck.
PE Editor does not open with Ctrl/Alt/Shift nothing...zilch
Running PE Editor from this point using Open produces error message. PE Elements has stopped working - Close Program.
    Thanks anyway.
Problem has now been escalated to senior tech team within Adobe.

The only other suggestion is try re-setting the Editor preferences as this often fixes conflicts. You will also be able to check that this part of the application installed correctly.
Hold down the windows key to the left of Alt and press the letter E to launch Explorer
In the left side pane click on Computer
In the right pane double click on Program Files, then double click Adobe, then double click Photoshop Elements 8.0
Use the right hand  scroll bar to move down the list of files and locate Photoshop Elements Editor With one hand holding down all three keys CtrlShiftAlt right click on the Editor file in the list and select open.
You should see a pop up box with the words Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes
Close down Elements and re-open it in the normal way.
Please let us know if that works.

  • Problems with PSE 6???  PLZ HELP!!!

Hi. I've been working on the yearbook pages for my class and Photoshop Elements 6 keeps freezing. It gets stuck in the twirly rainbow thing and I lose all my changes. I force quit the program, but it won't let me reopen it until I restart. I already tried deleting the following files:
    - com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist
    - Adobe PSE 6.0 Paths
    - Adobe PSE 6.0 Settings
    - Adobe TWAIN Driver
How can I stop it from crashing??
I have another problem. We did like 3 yearbook pages when the program crashed. I restarted the computer, but when I tried to open the file, it gave the message "Could not complete your request because of a program error." I restarted the computer again and tried opening the file on my brother's computer, but it still didn't work.
Does anyone know how to get the file back??? And if you say to reset the preferences, I've already tried but nothing happens when I click Apple > Option > Shift.
    Thnx!!!

    HI,
Check the hard disk. Restart your Mac while holding down the C key, pressing the power button and inserting your install disk all at the same time. An Installer window will open, but do not proceed with any installations. Instead, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Disk Utility. In the Disk Utility window click First Aid, and then click Verify. If Disk Utility reports errors, click Repair. When Disk Utility is finished, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Disk. Select MacintoshHD 10.x.x and click Restart.
How many apps do you have running at the same time? Sounds like one too many.
Try using Spotlight (top right in your screen with a magnifying glass icon) to search for the file.
*"Apple > Option > Shift."* What preferences does this reset? You've lost me there.
Your profile with 10.5.6 is displayed correctly.

  • Problems with PSE 8.0 (Mac version)

    Hi,
I have two problems regarding PSE and Adobe Customer Service.
    First things first :
    1. When I try to run successfully installed software I receive this error:
and I don't know what to do next. Im trying to run it on Leopard Snow.
    2. I bought software from shop on adobe.com and when contacted with polish Adobe division (country I'm from) I was denied any customer assistance (even when they checked that this software is legit). They claim that I can only contact with american division. Is that right? I'm pretty much sure that I have right to call to the nearest customer service and ask for help - but maybe Im wrong.
    Best regards

  • Problem converting pse 6 catalog to pse 7

I am a longtime pse user, I started with Album.  I have photos from a trip that I had in pse 6 on my laptop that I want to get into pse 7 on my desktop.  I have not found a lossless way to merge catalogs in pse so I have three catalogs.  I successfully converted my desktop catalog from pse 5 to pse 7 with no problems.  I backed up two catalogs under pse 6 on my laptop and restored them to my desktop system. I tried to covert each one but the conversion failed.  I found that I had two eSATA drives with the same volume ID so I backed up my desktop catalog (the photos resided on one of the drives) and reformatted one drive.  Pse was still confused so I reformatted the other drive as well.  Pse 7 now runs fine for my former pse 5 desktop catalog which I’ll call catalog A.  I restored the first of my pse laptop catalogs, I’ll call it catalog B, and after multiple attempts got it to convert by restoring it with pse 7, the automatic conversion after the restore was successful.  I did the same with the remaining pse 6 backup file, call it catalog C, restoring it with pse 7 but the conversion failed. I did catalog repair but it found no errors, did ‘repair anyway’.  Convert failed again.  I optimized it, convert failed again.  I checked the convert log and it says the catalog copy failed.  The log showed that pse tried to copy the catalog to the location of my photos for catalog A to a file named the same as my catalog C name.  The last line in the log is - caught exception "catalog copy failed".  This implies to me that it never got far enough to encounter a ‘poison file’.
I have run out of ideas and any help would be appreciated.  My last choice option is to use ‘get photos’ to get the catalog C photos into catalog B to get everything running under pse 7 rather than under multiple products.
I am going to make another forum entry but it may matter here that the catalogs of catalog B and C are in the same directories that I restored their photos to and are only found when I ask to find ‘custom location’ directories.  The psedbtool program never sees them.

I created a new folder ‘Black Sea and Spitsbergen CATALOG’ and moved the catalog and thumbnail files to it.  Pse 6 opened it and displayed the thumbnails faster than usual.  When I do the catalog option Black Sea and Spitsbergen CATALOG shows as the current catalog.  I did the reconnect all missing files and got the no missing files message.  Did the repair catalog and got the no errors message did repair anyway.  No errors found, I did the reconnect again, no missing files.  I closed pse 6.  Opened pse 7 file>catalog>convert>find more catalogs and pointed to the folder ‘Black Sea and Spitsbergen CATALOG’.
Pse found the catalog, I highlighted it and clicked on convert.  I got the conversion completed successfully message! Clicked OK>done>open and the converted catalog opens.  Catalog manager now shows both catalogs under the Custom Location radio button, fantastic!  I did a reconnect and got the no missing files message.
Ok; so I think I learned the following:
    1)      The current catalog name is determined by the name of the folder it resides in.
    2)      The catalog and thumbnail files need to be in the same folder.
    3)      It works better if the catalog and thumbnail files are in a separate folder from the pictures.  I suspect performance is improved because it finds the thumbnail file faster; I have 21,000 photos in the catalog.
I suspect this could also solve my catalog move problem because pse may be moving the contents of the folder where the catalog resides.  I am going to try it, will post the result under that discussion.
If you would be kind enough to confirm the above three points I would appreciate it.  I will keep this open for your reply.
Thank you again, it seems simple now that I understand a bit more, thanks for your time and for sharing your knowledge.

  • When Trying to View an .mov File, PSE 8.0 Crashes... Help

When Trying to View an .mov File, PSE 8.0 Crashes... Help  I was able to view these .mov files without any problem on ACDSee 2.5, any help will be appreciated to determine why .mov files crashe in the PSE 8.0 viewer....
    Best Regards,
    Larry

Thanks for the reply Larry. This is frustrating, and Adobe support is useless. It all works on my vista 64 bit system, but not on the 32 bit system. The odd thing is that I can open .mov files in Editor by going to File-Import from video, select "all file types" and choose a quicktime movie and it will open and run just fine. I can take stills off the movie.  But if I try to open the same movie file with File-Open...I get an error message "Cannot open file......wrong file type" In organizer everything just crashes. I suspect there are some security issues in Vista that won't allow PSE to access Quicktime.
Too bad Windows 7 didn't fix the problem. I was starting to head that way. I will let you know if I find a solution.

  • Fragmentation problems with PSE 11

I have just installed PSE & Premier Elements 11 on Vista Ultimate. When I try to edit my photos they become fragmented and look like a jigsaw puzzle. This does not happen with PSE 10 on the same computer. Can anyone tell me why this occurs?  Could it be a fault with the software?

Thank you for your information about my problem with PSE 11. I have since tried the programme on 2 different computers and it works fine. Seems like the problem is with my computer although my old PSE 10 works okay. I'd appreciate any ideas about what could be wrong with my computer to cause my photos to break up into various segments which don't join together particularly when I move them into 'before and after horizontal' or '......vertical' and even when zooming them. • Few problems with PSE 11

    Hi everybody,
I have a problem with my PS Elements 11. I was working on trial and then decided to buy full version, however few things seems to work different than on my trial and I can't find solution.
    1) When I copy one image to another it makes transparent layer on it altho capacity is set on 100% still. On my trial image copied or cuted to another pic was looking exactly as original and after I could lower transparency by lowering capacity.
    2) When I want to use normal brush and make just one spot, or paint with one line not with a lot of points or other symbols. I thought aerograph function is the reason but it paints with it and normal the same (as many symbols)
    3) When I select part of image with square selection tool it makes a circle with it or rounded field but somehow square selected image is finally copied. It seems it finds some borders on img by itself and changes selected square to it.
I would be very glad if someone could help me to resolve those issues. I will feel free to post others also if I they will come to my mind.
    thanks!

  • Catalog backup problems with PSE 11

    Hi,
I'm having terrible problems trying to backup my catalog to an external hard drive.
My PC is running Windows 7 with 8 GB of internal memory. My external hard drive is formatted to FAT 32 and has 130GB of spare capacity. My catalog is 45GB.
I have previously backed up the the catalog without any problems but can't remember if I did this before I upgraded to PSE 11.
I initially tried doing a full backup but got an error part way through writing the 'breeze' data. Having read that the breeze data was only used for face recognition, I deleted the remaining breeze data files and tried again.
I then encountered a problem when writing some of my early .jpg files. I couldn't see any obvious problem with these but tried removing them and runnning the back up again.
This time it got a bit further but hung up on some .mpg files.
I removed all video files and tried again.
This time it got up to over 60% complete but it then hung up on some early files which had a 'description' 2002 rather than a straight date name to the file. I thought that there might be a problem with file names including ' 's ', so removed these and tried again.
I then tried running Catalog 'optimize' and 'repair' (I didn't tick 'the re-index visual similarity data').
I eventually got up to over 65% complete but couldn't get the backup to go past my 2007 files no matter what files I removed.
I then tried doing an incremental backup using a Catalog file that I had created in 2011. This backup failed with 'an error encountered while writing.....WaldoData\waldo.cache'
I now don't know what to try! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
FYI, looking at the backup Catalog files that I have previously created, it appears that only the first contains all the images from whole catalog with an equal number of .xml files.
Two others which I created (which I can't remember were full or incremental backups) only have some of the images. I'm sure that this can't be right.
I presume that for an intial backup the .xml files should run from B0000001 to Bnnnnnnn; the .jpg/.mpg/ etc from Bnnnnnnn+1 to B 2(nnnnnnn) and that when one runs an incremental back up the new .xml files are added from B2(nnnnnnn)+1 to B2(nnnnnnnn)+(mmmm) and the image files continuing for a further (mmmm). Is this correct?
Otherwise what should one be seeing?
    Regards
    Mike

  • Help on PSE 6.0 problem ??

I have a laptop with Vista. I have used 6.0 for about a year with no problems. I have about about 9,000 photos on a WD Passport portable hard disk.
When I open 6.0 it will start to generate thumbnails, the little hourglass icon starts to spin but immediately freezes. If I try to do anything like go to a menu or click on a picture the window pops up that says the program is not responding and asks me if I want to close the program or wait. The first thumbnails in my catalog are visible but if I try to scroll down to see if others are visible I get the same message I mentioned in the previous sentence.
I have left it on overnight to see if it was just taking a long time but that didn't work.
When I disconnect the portable drive I can see all the thumbnails in my catalog and access the menus.
I also have PSE 6.0 on my desktop(also Vista) and it works fine when I have the portable drive connected.
I have reinstalled 6.0 twice on the laptop.
I have had no other issues with the laptop
Any help would be appreciated !!

There may be "poison" photos on the drive that PSE chokes on trying to generate thumbanils.  Try creating a new test catalog with File > Catalog > New, and then import photos a bunch at a time (e.g. a couple hundred at a time), waiting until thumbnails are generated for each bunch.  If they all eventually import, then it's something about your real catalog that's damaged (though I haven't yet encountered a corrupted PSE 6/7 catalog); if PSE chokes on one of the bunches, then the poison photo is in that bunch and you can use divide and conquer to identify it.

  • PSE 7 Share problems

I cannot get PSE 7 to send either email attachments or Photo-mail properly.
When I attempt either of these I get all the way through the process, but when Elements opens my email software (Outlook Express) which is the default email in Elements I get a screen that looks like I am reading an already sent email, Sender unknown, all the Adobe advertising is there and the attached photos appear normal.  There seems to be the ability to reply or reply all as if I had received it.  It is NOT in my in basket or sent mail basket.
HOWEVER, there is no way to send the blasted thing to the receipent selected in my contacts.
This same result occurs with Photo Mail.
I had no such problems with PSE 6.
    Is there a solution??
      Thanks

I guess I solved my own problem.  I re-installed Microsoft Outlook which I had used until a couple of months ago.  I thought it was "overkill" so I went to Outlook Express and un-installed Outlook.  After a re-boot I can now send email attachments etc. normally.  Apparently something got confused in the process even though I changed the default email client in both PSE7 and the computer in general.

  • Problem in PSE 12 with moving tool

Hi all, I have a problem in PSE 12: if I move something (e.g. text) with the mouse, it always jumps back to the original place. Does someone now a solution?

    Hi,
We sincerely apologize for the problem that you have been facing while using a trackpad with Photoshop Elements 11 & 12 on Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite).
We have been actively working with Apple to resolve this problem as quickly as possible. We're hopeful this will get completely resolved in an upcoming update of Yosemite(MAC 10.10).
In the meanwhile, you have two options to work around this problem:
    1. Option1: Use a mouse instead of the trackpad
    2. Option2: Install a plug-in which should workaround the problem
    Plug-in installation instructions:
    1. Close Photoshop Elements
    2. Download this zip file to a location you can easily find (e.g. your desktop)
    3. Unzip the file, WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin, and move it to the Plug-In folder:
    • For Elements 12 – //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 12/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
    • For Elements 11 - //Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 11/Support Files/Plug-Ins/
You can verify the plug-in is installed by launching the Photoshop Elements Editor and choosing Help > System Info... Scroll to the bottom of the text in the dialog and look for the plug-in name "WhiteWindowWorkaround.plugin".
Note: This plugin is a temporary workaround and should be used until this issue is addressed in Mac OSX 10.10 (Yosemite). Please remove this plugin once the issue is officially resolved by Apple.
If you are using a stylus in conjunction with a trackpad, you might see issues with your trackpad. Workaround in this particular case is to use mouse instead of the trackpad.
    Hope this helps!

  • Von PSE 4.0 nach PSE 5.0: Probleme mit Katalogen

    Hallo zusammen,

    Mike

  • PSE 11 TEXT problem.  Underlining when I type using the TEXT tool.

I'm trying to create my signature in PSE 11.  When I use the TEXT tool instead of it displaying the letters I type I'm getting nothing but underlining. If I type the letter L instead of the L I get_.  Thanks.

Perhaps you need to widen the text layer to see the letterings correctly.  To widen the layer, just drag one of the sides of the layer to see if this makes any difference.
