Tried SMC to fix white screen, seemingly only a temporary fix?

I thought that resetting the SMC would solve the problem, but it seems to have returned.
I saw another thread about a connected iPod being the possible cause, I do not think this is the case as when it boots, it works with everything connected just fine, even my new external.
I think it might be time to call an Apple Tech if it keeps happening...
Are there any other solutions to this problem?

Are you getting a while screen again? What is the current problem?
USB devices can cause startup problems. If the iPod is not connected, does the problem ever recur?
If it is possible that the iPod is causing the problem, you could try resetting the iPod using iTunes. This would be equivalent to reformatting a hard drive. Before re-synching it, see if the problem recurs after resetting the iPod.

My Macbook Pro is frozen on the login page with a white screen and only my login picture. How do I fix this? I can't turn it off and I closed it and let it charge but it's still not working. It's only 3 months old and was working perfectly fine 30min before this happened.

    Hello Kierasully,
I would start your troubleshooting with the article below for issues of not being able to log in to your Mac. Start with booting up in to Safe Boot as well as resetting PRAM on your Mac. If that does not work, then verify the hard drive with booting to the Recover HD and go to Disk Utility to verify it.

How to fix white screen of death on iPod 4g after screen replacement?

I would try to reset it before anything else.  To do this press and hold the home and power buttons until the the white screen shows the apple logo (~ 15 secs.).
If this does not work then more than likely the LCD is damaged.
btw- The white screen is common after repairs.  The reset fix works 90% of the time.

  • Trying to update OS to fix White Screen problem.

Hello, I have had my Blackberry 8520 on a Virgin contract for about a year and a half now. Recently it has started randomly just changing to a black white screen that won't allow me to turn it off or perform any functions. The way I temporarily fix this is to plug it into the charger which acts like a reboot and brings it back to normal (pulling the battery to reboot it just restores the white screen after loading). In trying to find the resolve to this problem, which I haven't yet, I rang the Virgin helpline who told me to update my OS. I currently have the version 5.0 Bundle 1096 and I am trying to update it to the 5.0 Bundle 1168. I have been having increasing problems with trying to do this. I updated my desktop software for Blackberry but updating through this software always brings up the message at the install stage (after backing up my data) - "An error has occured while downloading software for your device. Please verify your internet connection or try again later, if the problem persists." My internet is working fine and I have tried many times to update through this way. I have also tried updating through the blackberry website "web based updates area" that brings up the same message. Looking through over message boards, I tried the attempt at updating through the LOADER.EXE way. However after trying to download the OS manually to my computer, which my internet explorer thought was dangerous, it came up after with another error message - "Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error from reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.' I am now out of ways to try and update my Blackberry and have no idea how to solve the white screen problem. Any help would be much appreciated. Karen x

Just to specify the final type of the updating I tried was following the instructions on this links - http://us.blackberry.com/support/apps-and-software/desktop-and-device-download-sites.html I choose Europe, Virgin Media, Blackberry curve 8520. I got the software on to my computer and the error message that came up, appeared after choosing language and agreeing to the terms and conditions and starting the installation. Sorry about the big clump of writing; the post removed all of my paragraphs when I posted it. New to this! And need help! Thanks x

  • My ihone only displays a white screen and I want to fix it myself.

my iphone will only display a white screen can I fix it and how can I?

At this point, you probably be better off saving up for and purchasing a new one. Apple will not help you since you opened the iPod up.  A third party repair company may be able to help but the cost will likely be near the cost of buying a new Nano.

  • White screen 3GS only when phone locks but I am volunteering in Africa so need help

    Hi everyone.
This is my first post on communties. I have a white screen on my 3GS. It can be rectified by resetting the home but as soon as the phone is locked it goes back to white but I can take a photo of the homescreen (can tell by sound), phone will ring etc.
After reset the phone functions completely normally until locked. This all started after IOS 5 upgrade, briefly became normal for a few days after IOS5.1 but now back to white screen probelms. I have restored to no avail.
I have read Brad's suggestion it may be an LCD problem but seems stranges as you can reset the phone and the LCD is fine until it locks.
Any ideas and or fixes, please bear in mind I am in Africa for a year so no Apple stores around.
Thanks in advance, as the phone is 2 years old I am willing to open it up if required but would need advise on how/what tools required.

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore.
    Try all of these.
    If these fail, then:
iOS: Unable to update or restore

  • White screen, boots only in safe boot

Was watching a video, switched to full screen then computer froze during the transition.  Had to force shutdown by holding to power button.  Now on startup the apple logo displays, spinner, appears like it will boot, screen flashes dark then displays only white screen.   It will boot with Safe Boot (holding Shift while powering on), tried repair disk utilities, no luck.  Did the other boot attempt by powering on holding Atl/Option + Command + R + P, it makes the computer chime go off and on again but still goes to white screen.

Additionally, when booting in verbose mode I see a lot or errors for smcReadKeyAction and smcReadData before it goes to the white screen.

  • Constant White Screen and Only Recognized by iTunes in Disk Mode

My 5th Gen iPod fell out of my pocket and even though it was in a case all I get is a blank white screen. No matter what I do, it remains that way. The battery still holds a charge and the white screen will last for hours. I've noticed that if I hold the Menu and Select buttons, the iPod turns off and I can hear the clicking noises when I push a button. It does reset, but only to the same white screen. If I put the iPod in forced disk mode, it is registered perfectly by iTunes and Windows, but it remains non-functional otherwise. If I try and connect the iPod to the computer without being in disk mode, it is registered by Windows but does not show up in iTunes or Windows Explorer.
I have restored the iPod several times, however, no matter what I do, it always returns to the blank white screen. If I run a diagnostics in iTunes in forced disk mode, I get an error and iTunes shuts down.
    I would appreciate any help!

This is the only support document with information on error 4005. It seems to be a disconnect error, and can happen for any reason. The diagnostics they use at Apple do not always provide the information about why, just that there is a hardware error. Any number of things can go wrong with electronics. I'm sorry I could not be any more specific, but then, neither could Apple.

  • HDV crashes/comes up as white screen with only sound when exported.

Hi I have been searching all throughout the forums for an answer to my problem but seem to find no clear solution. I edit everything into an HDV1080i60 timeline in Final Cut Pro 5 and then I try to export, whenever I export with Quicktime Conversion, Final Cut Pro crashes midway through. When I export with Quicktime Movie at 1080i60, the file comes out but when played is a blank white screen with sound only.
Every export setting has failed EXCEPT Uncompressed 8 bit NTSC. The video does come out good but the file sizes are enormous because it is uncompressed.
Is there any solution to this problem, I don't understand why its happening now, about one month ago everything was working great. I have downgraded to quicktime 7.3.1 yet still no results.
Any help would be much appreciated.

something between then and now has thrown a large spanner in the works
the fact that Quicktime Player is not seeing the HDV codec and yet FCP is able to work in that codec is a clear indication of the issue
starting with the least extreme and easiest solutions:
Use Disk Utility app to repair permissions on your system disc, see if that helped
Create a new user account and see if it all works better in that new account
Boot from your OS install discs and use Disk Utility app to repair your system disc, see if that helped
Uninstall and then reinstall Final Cut Studio (repair permissions again after the reinstall)
... probably best solution though is a complete clean reinstall of both OS and applications
    hope it helps

  • HOW TO FIX WHITE SCREEN ISSUE

So about 15 hours ago, I got the white screen after using some app. I was worried I'd lose everything, but thankfully I found a solution from the manual.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPhone_UserGuide.pdf
As restarting didn't work, I thought my next option should be resetting before trying to restore it from a backup.
So this is what I followed from the manual:
*Reset iPhone: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the*
*same time for _at least_ ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.*
It says that from a reset, "+All your preferences and settings are reset. Information, such as your contacts and calendars, and media, such as your songs and videos, are not deleted.+" But I didn't notice one change to anything. Everything seemed the way it was before that awful white screen.
    Hope this helps!!

There are two different resets. The reset you did involved holding the sleep/wake & home button.
The other reset will do exactly what it says. That reset is located in Settings - General - Reset.

Checked email this morning.  Battery super low so it shut off.  I plugged it into my computer to recharge...it showed the little battery symbol with red lightning bolt as if it was starting to charge.  Tried to turn it on a minute later (while charging) to see if I could still send an email and all I see is a white screen; no icons or anything else.   HELP PLEASE ???

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • Macbook (Airbook) screen flickering/fading into a white screen?! How to fix it?

Hi, I bought the computer in 2010 and have been using it without problems.
Lately it happens more and more often, when I'm using the computer, without attaching to other external screens or other devices (no power adapt connected too), the screen will suddenly turn white little by little and fade out to a whole white screen. While it happens, the computer looks freeze and screen has horizontal white flashing lines. I noticed that it's not related to the battery, either the battery is full or not full, it would happen. Then I have to try to move the lid up and down, then the computer display will turn back and become normal, i don't need to restart the computer or totally close the lid.
Looks like it may have connection problem between lid and the base? Or is it really the display problem? It may happen several times during the day if I keep using the laptop for a day. It's out of warranty, so will I have to give up on the laptop or have to pay an expensive fee to fix it or is it an easy thing to fix?
Thanks so much and I'm eager to know the answer.

If it were sudden, and not gradual, a stronger case for the problem being an electrical connection or cable issue. That the computer freezes may also be contraindicative of a display connection. I would more suspect the graphics subsystem on the main board and heating. You will need a more thorough diagnosis than can be achieved in this venue. I would suggest a visit to an Apple Store Genius Bar or other qualified Authorized Service facility.
If it is the main board, the cost could approach or exceed  that of a replacement unit of the same. You may have to decide whether to repair with used parts, up to replacement with a new unit altogether.
