Tried to install Leopard on macbook also running windows

Tried to install leopard on an intel macbook with a partitioned hard drive to run windows. Not only would it not install leopard, but now it won't even recognize any of the original install dvd's. Not sure what to do next...

You didn't mention what OS you were running. If 10.7 or above, boot into the Recovery Partition (command - R on a restart) and run Disk Utility/Repair Disk/Repair permissions until you get no error. Reboot normally and see if the installation will finish.
If you were running10.6, boot off the DVD and do the above.

The download took hours. But it was completed. After that i got a message that the hard-drive should not be ok. But it started updating the operating system.
Yesterday I now installed Snow Leopard again and started the download of Lion again. Worked faster and is installed now. Now i have a problem with the charger or the battery.

I just tried running the Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test both in normal mode and in safe mode.  Both times it indicated a failed read test on the HDD. The last two tests also failed.  I forget what those tests were called.
I am really beginning to think I have a bad HDD and the problem just happens to be in the reserved partition where my factory system software resides.

  • Error r6034 in trying to install iTunes on a computer running Windows 7

In trying to solve the problem of the runtime error R6034, I have tried all of the suggestions but cannot remove Apple Mobile Device.  I moved on to the next program on the list and uninstalled all but that one.  When I rebooted and reinstalled itunes I got the same r6034 runtime Error.
When that failed, I went to restore and chose a date that I knew itunes had worked.  But after the restore, I received the same error plus one that said AdCore.dll file is missing.  I'm stuck now since I cannot install iTunes.  BTW, along with Apple Mobile Device not uninstalling, iTunes does not appear in my list of installed programs, so I cannot clean the computer of all apple software.

  • Trying to install Leopard...

    Hi there,
I just bought a new macbook 13" so decided to give my older iMac G5 to my sister for christmas and at the same time to update it to Leopard. Since the iMac was unable to read from Leopard's double-layer dvd, I decided to try installing it from my macbook and found like many others that it won't let you install it since it asks to format the hd to GUID even if the cpu is an apple one. I kinda found a way to make it work:
I started my macbook as an external drive with the Leopard DVD in and booted the iMac (that i had previously erased).
The iMac then starts from the dvd that's in the Macbook (Leopard).
I started installing Leopard, looked like it was working fine until I got this error telling me that there was an error with BaseSystem.
I tried again twice, same problem.
Tried reinstalling Mac OS 10.4 and also 10.3.5, still the same kind of problem during the installation but not confirming or not that it has something to do with Base System anything else.
Now, I'm stuck with an iMac that is not even 3 years old on which I can't install a system. I've tried re-formatting everytime I re-installed for every OS. Still the same problem. Everything seems alright hardware wise, I had no problem before trying this. Smart is verified for the HD.
One thing I need to say, before I found out the whole GUID thing between Intel-based and PPC, I installed Leopard from the Macbook to the iMac with no problem, worked perfect and even booted it from the Macbook, it was working perfect, so I doubt it is a problem with my cd's/dvd's.
I have no idea of what to do now...
    Anyone?
    Thanks!
    Frank

It doesn't work with a USB ext. drive, can't boot from it.
Installing Leopard from Macbook as an ext. drive to iMac: error.
Installing Tiger from Macbook as an ext. drive to iMac: error, please retry/restart.
Installing Tiger from iMac: error, please retry/restart.
    Installing Panther from iMac: error.
I have no idea what to do now, I can't install Leopard on an ext. drive from my Macbook since it wants me to format it as GUID and I need it to be formatted as APM for it to work on my iMac.
    Solutions I thought of:
1- Buy an external dvd drive to plug in my iMac. Don't know if it would work though, because that's pretty much what my Macbook does when I try installing Leopard from it while it runs as an external drive plugged into my iMac.
2- Buy an external firewire HD drive and find an old iMac (not intel) that reads double-layer dvd (or just plug it in my macbook again to use it as an external dvd drive) and try installing Leopard on that ext. HD drive (which should work, I wouldn't see why not). Then, I could try to restore Leopard from the ext. drive to my iMac, or just try installing Leopard from the ext. drive to my iMac.
Can it be a memory problem, i've seen that somewhere else, but I don't get the same kind of problem. Others have their computer crash, or get a blue screen after succesful installation.
Any further help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Frank

Xcode 4.x cannot be installed on Snow Leopard.  You need a 3.x.  So if that is what you used then yes, you need to install lion.   If connect.apple.com still alows registration or logins using an existing appleid then you could download the last xcode 3.2.6 for free.

  • Problems Installing Leopard on MacBook Pro

I've been trying to install Leopard on my Macbook Pro - for some reason, it asked me to format my hard drive to continue the install. So, I changed my startup disk to my harddrive and restarted - but now, my computer won't start up!
    I've tried:
booting up with and without the leopard install disk
and booting up with my 10.4 install disk (the one that came with my MBP)
Any ideas? I've been waiting on the apple support line for the last 15 minutes and I'm getting a little frustrated. Thanks!

I had a similar experience on my MB Pro. Freshly rebooted, logged in as Administrator, backed up user data, but not applications folder (my mistake). Leopard install hosed my startup disk, could not repair with Disk Utility, could not boot from prior Tiger HD. Totally hosed. I had to reboot several times even to get it to do a clean install after that. I've just about got my machine back to usable, but have lost my applications requiring reinstalls, and some other stuff. This is a totally unacceptable upgrade process for an Apple product. I am very disappointed. It's not like Apple did not have enough time to get this right. It stinks.

  • Trying to install Leopard server on my Mac mini

I'm a registered Apple Select Developer and I'm trying to install Leopard Server on a Mac mini I just picked up the other day. Is there a way to do this using the image or do I have to burn a DVD in order to do the install? The image is over 5GB's so I'd need to get a dual layer disk.

Is this just for a test?
If so you can create 3 partitions, one a bootable volume the second partition a place to restore the Leopard image and the third partition to install the new software you restored on the second partition. You do loose two small volumes temporarily, but you can make them relatively small since these are only used for installation purposes. The details can be found on the developer site under " leopardclient_9a377a_seednote.rtf".
I've done this on older machines with no CD players installed.
