Tried to transfer iPod to new PC not good

I downloaded all my music on my computer at home and when i plugged it in to my new PC, it's been charged for about 14 hours and still isn't done, and all my music's gone. do i have to go back home and download it all again or what?

when i plugged it in to my new PC
I take it your new PC is not the one containing your music? Does the new PC have iTunes installed? If so, then plugging the iPod into it has likely caused it to update to the iTunes library on your "new PC". Short answer, Yes, you will have to reload the music at home.
In future, to prevent the iPod from updating on other computers hold command + option (Mac) or shift + control (PC) immediately after plugging the iPod in.

Trying to transfer ipod to new computer. It is telling me to autharize computer. Had another ipod on same account, it gone now. Don't have password or any info about it. What do I do?

The password is for your iTunes account. Not for your old iPod. Enter your Email and password will give you access to all the music you bought from iTunes.  If you forget it then I dont know how to help you there guess your SOL.

i m create a new ring tone. i m trying to transfer in my iphone but not copied in iphone.. any one have solution?

Actually, I've found that I can sync tones I made of up to at least 40 seconds (0:40 minutes). A 50-second tone would not sync, but a 40-second tone would. Voila!

  • Trying to sync ipod with new computer and add music frrom my ipod to

    my new desktop.
I apologize in advance if this question gets asked all the time. I am trying to move all the music on my ipod to my new desktop. I am currently using my ipod as a HD on my new computer. I would like to be able to add the new songs i've downloaded on my new computer to my ipod, but i'm not sure if i can do that without losing all of my old songs.
    Can someone help me out?
Again, my apologies. I'm sure this gets asked all the time.

If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and a different iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No*. Pressing "Yes" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it.
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs but not playlists back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.

  • I was updating my iPod touch to 4.2.5 when an error occurred and now my iPod is not recognized by my computer or under devices in iTunes.  My iPod is also stuck on a screen saying to connect to iTunes.  I tried resetting my iPod and it did not work.

Please help!  I was updating my iPod to 4.2.5 and iTunes said that it was preparing my iPod for update.  Then an error popped up and now my computer won't recognize my iPod and it doesn't show up under devices in iTunes.  All it has on my iPod is a picture of a USB cable with an arrow pointing to the iTunes logo.  I tried resetting my iPod and it just restarts to the same picture.  I tried restarting my computer as well.

What was the error number?  That would be very useful since the following gives actions for various errors.

Try manually placing the iPod in recovery mode to see if that will make the iPod visible in iTunes.  See:

If the photos were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program like TouchCopy or PhoneView

  • Trying to transfer ipod library onto new computer without losing songs

I just purchased a new computer and can't seem figure out how to transfer my ipods music into it. I don't want to lose all of my library but when I plug it into my new computer it says you can't have two libraries synced. Any ideas?

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Mac and Windows
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • HT5625 I backed up my phone before I tried to transfer to a new i-phone. Where did y photo stream go. It did not transfer.

I backed up my phone to icloud before I sent it in for a replacement. Cannot find my photos on the backup. Where could they have gone?

Photo stream photos are not included in the backup, only camera roll photos are.  In the future, if you want to back up photo stream photos, save them to the camera roll before backing up.

  • When trying to sync ipod to new computer

Hello I have been trying to sync my ipod to a new computer, I found this disk method very useful
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
Now the music from my ipod is transferred to my itunes, under my music, which I m really happy about, but it is faded out, and when I try and sync, it still gives me the message "the itunes libary is synced with another itunes library.Do I want to erase and and replace with existing playlists"
Any ideas ? As I dont want to loose all of my music !!!
    Thanks

  • Cannot transfer ipod to new computer

I have a new computer trying to import my ipod playlist to it. It keeps coming up saying that some music cannot be transferred. Also, on the left side of itunes, "devices" is not coming up so I don't know if it is actually reconizing my ipod shuffle. Please help. I have tried to hook it up to different USB ports and turning my shuffle on and off.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
iTunes will not let you copy songs from the iPod to computer for copyright reasons (to prevent music theft)

  • Trying to transfer files to new ext HD

    Hi,
This should be a no-brainer, but theres a glitch somewhere. iMac G5, w/ a new out of the box Axiom 250G HD. Plugged in via USB 2.0 & ready to use it as the new home for iTunes music files.
So I cant even create a new blank folder in the ext HD, it says it cant be written to. Checking the ext HD in 'get info' I see it is mounted but can only read, not write.
went into disk utilities to verify permissions & none of the 4 buttons were options (verify, repair permissions, etc) all grayed out.
The computer sees the HD but that all, I cant wrtie / transfer files to it.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thanks
    Duane
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Use the Disk Utility to reformat the drive in the Mac OS Extended format, or MS-DOS if you need to use the drive with a PC. Mac OS X cannot write to NTFS disks natively; since there's nothing currently on the drive, it's probably best to reformat it.
