Tried to update deactivated original iPhone

I have been useing my original deactivated iPhone as an iTouch. I tried to put 3.0 on it and now it is stuck in "emergency call" mode with the usb cable pic. anyway to get it working again as an iTouch??

You need to insert the no longer activated SIM card - the SIM card that was used with the iPhone when it was activated in order to install a firmware update or restore the iPhone with iTunes if wanted or needed, or to complete the process.

Are you positive you're using the exact Apple ID to update these apps that was used to originally ontain them? You can verify such by right-clicking one the apps, in your iTunes library, & selecting "Get Info". This will show you the Apple ID used to originally obtain the app...does it match on your phone?

Sounds like it's hardware issue. The iPhone warranty is based in the original country of purchase. Since it was bought in Korea you will need to ship the phone to someone you know in Korea to be taken in and then they will have to ship it back to you. The cost of shipping will be at your expense.

So what happened to the phone during the process? It should have gone black and restarted a couple of times and there would have been a white progress bar as the update installed. Sounds to me like you've downloaded the update file but not actually installed it. The quickest way to see version of the software is installed is to go to Settings-General-About and check Version.

This is what worked:
"In iTunes, I signed out of the store. I exited itunes and restarted it, logged back into the store (with my apple id), then I pulled down the iTunes menu in the menu bar and selected Check for updates.
At this point it said that iTunes 11.1 was available and I'm downloading now " Quoted from a fellow user.

I did check my wire-less connections and the connection from my PC to wire-less is hundred percent okay. I did search using google.com to confirm and my connections is good. The storage you purchased is in the cloud, and doesn't do anything with your pad. Your problem is simply that you have too much content on your pad. Go to settings, general, usage, and it will show you how much space you have avaliable on your pad. If you let the screen sit for a while, all the apps will be displayed, and you can see how much stuff you have associated with each.
You have to no option but to delete some of the content on your pad. Videos, comics, pitcures and some music files use a lot of space. The cloud allows you to leave stuff there, so you can get it when you need it.

I have noticed in the last few months, that when I go to update my original iphone it says that it is all ready updated. I use to get updates all the time. Has Apple stopped updating the original iphone? Usually occurs on devices that have either been jailbroken or attempts have been made to downgrade the iOS. You can try putting it in DFU mode to restore but you may not be able to fix it. If you phone has been jailbroken we can't support you in these forums as it is against the terms of use.

Also, check your hosts file to verify that it's not blocking iTunes from communicating with the update server. See the steps under the heading "Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > Mac OS X > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store." If you have software used to perform unauthorized modifications to the iOS device, uninstall this software prior to editing the hosts file to prevent that software from automatically modifying the hosts file again on restart.
