Tried to update to 4.2.1 on 3G and Update failed. I just bough the phone! ***?

Question

So here is the scoop.
I bought a used 3G iPhone from ebGames. They are big company here in Canada.
I bought my iphone for looks, not have fancy apps and stupid stuff.
However I do want the facebook app.
So I tried to download it and it told me to update to a newer iOS
So I figured out through google that I need to use itunes to do that. So I install itunes 11, and it asks me if I want to update my phone.
I say yes. It updates from iOS 3 something. I didn't get the number and it didn't ask me to back it
So it updates, and 90% the way through updating the firmware, I get an error. I didn't bother writing it down, I just clicked restore to go back to the way things were.
That didn't try to restore me to what was installed before, it just tryed to restore the same **** OS.
Anyway. I am now stuck.
The phone worked great, had nearly no apps or anything on it, and I made some calls before the update, and now all I get is a bloody Plug it in to the Computer icon on my screen. I cant turn it on, and every time I try to "RESTORE" It just gets to that same part in the firmware install, (restoring the firmware) and it gives me error 1015.
I am furious. My first iPhone and I haven't even had an hour and its already useless. I have searched everywhere and tried everything.
My computer is up to date, itunes etc. I have followed everything on every post as I have been trying to make the **** thing work for the last 7 hours.
I already paid 200$ for a device I can't use, I am not spending another 20$ on a phone call that almost certainly lead to me sending it away or having to spend more money. I WANT ANSWERS. I cant even get a refund.
If you know an answer that I haven't thought of. please. Tell me.

First, the current Facebook app won't run on an iPhone 3G. That app requires iOS 4.3 or higher, & iOS 4.2.1 is the end of the line for your phone. Error 1015 generally means the phone was jailbroken & any attempt to update or restore will error out, producing that error code.
Want some advice? Return the phone for a refund. ebGames is NOT an authorized iPhone dealer & who knows the source of their phones & whether they were hacked or not.
