Triggering garageband loop live

is there a way to trigger garageband to play a loop live with a foot-controller or something similar?

Use an iPod, just set it up, strap it on your pants, and hit the middle button when you want the loop to begin. It sounds goofy but I've seen it before!

  • What's the trick?  Can't delete loops from Garageband loop browser.

Am I missing something? I've tried to delete 3rd party loops directly from the Garageband loop browser, but could not. It wouldn't work in Garageband 08, and it won't work in '09.
These loops were all added to the library by drag and drop into the loops browser.
Is there something I need to do with file permissions?

I think you can only delete loops from the browser that you created yourself with GB.
Just delete the loops in the Finder and re-index everything.

  • Installed Jam Pack but see no new loops in Garageband loop browser. Why not?

I successfully installed Jam Pack but don't see new loops in Garageband loop browser. Is there some extra step I'm supposed to do? Before, I had about 57 Rock/Blues loops, and I still have just that. I had 14 instruments under All Drums, and guess what? Still only 14.
I know the install completed successfully - it said so, anyway.
    Clues?

Have you filters set on the Loop Browser?  Make sure the GarageBand Preference "Loops > Keyword Browsing > Filter for more relevant content" is off.  Otherwise you will  see a fraction of the available loops.
To see, if the JamPack has been installed, set the pop-up meu at the top of the Loop Browser to "Rhythm Section". Is that available?
Did you reindex your Loops after installing the Jam Pack? And did you restart the Mac? In Mt. Lion only restarting a Mac will ensure, that an application is not resumed from a cache, when you launch it again.Restarting the Mac will terminate GarageBand for sure.
If restarting the Mac does not make the JamPack Loops show, rebuild the Loop index.  See:  Rebuilding the Loop Index in GarageBand 6 or earlier - Apple Support

  • Logc 7.1 drops when triggering MIDI loops?

I have an Akai sampler, and when i trigger loops within logic 7 via midi, at the end of every bar the Logic stops the loop short of the bar?
So if i do a 4 bar loop the re-triggering is fine until it comes around to loop back to the start again?!? where it jumps?
This is fine on my G5 OSX with 4Gb , triggering the loops on ableton or Protools, only with Logic?!
    Any ideas?

    update:
Apple technician told me the way Logic uses cores changes depending on it's application.... ugh

  • Problem Downloading Extra GarageBand Loops

Just bought a new iMac and ran into a problem downloading the extra greyed out loops. The issue occurred because I upgraded GarageBand through Software Update before downloading the extra files. After the upgrade Software Update no longer gives you an opportunity to download the loops even though they are still greyed out in the loops window.
The solution was a re-install of GarageBand from CD, & avoiding software update until the extra files were downloaded.

I just ran into this and managed to solve it, but it was a pain.  Here's my situation:
    New iMac 27 inch
Used Migration Assistant to transfer all user accounts, user files, and applications off of an older (late 2006) iMac that had been upgraded to Snow Leopard and iLife '09
When trying to install the full set of Apple Loops and Software Instruments, I got the infamous "run Software Update but nothing ever downloads" problem.  After doing a lot of looking on these boards and elsewhere, I decided to uninstall GarageBand '11 and reinstall.  Uninstalling GarageBand '11 is a pain too; here's what I did:
Deleted GarageBand from the Applications folder
    Deleted the /Library/Application Support/GarageBand folder
Deleted the /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for GarageBand folder
Deleted anything related to GarageBand in /Library/Receipts
And everything in ~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand (this is optional I think)
I then reinstalled GarageBand from the second install disk that came with my new computer, fired up GarageBand, and downloaded the recommended update.  Finally, I opened up a new Loops project; in the Loops Browser, selected one of the missing loops; got the "run Software Update now or later" dialog, and said "Later"; quit GarageBand.  Finally, I opened Software Update, and lo and behold! the near-mythical GarageBand Loops and SW Instruments update was there, all 1.2 GB of it!
I wish that Apple would come out with a patch for this, but in the meantime, if you're situation is similar to mine (upgraded GarageBand '11), you might try the deinstall / reinstall route and see if it works...

  • Softwareupdate doenst load garageband loops

Hello, when i try to download the missing Garageband loops, the appstore update opens and nothing happens. Can someone help me please ?

Have you moved the GarageBand application from the Applications folder or renamed it?  If yes, put it back into Applications, not into a subfolder.
Also, make sure you are using an administrator account, and disable all firewalls and antivirus software.
Sign into the App Store with the Apple ID you used to set up your Mac originally.
Reload the Software Update Pane in the AppStore using by pressing the  ⌘R keys.

Yes, you can use GarageBand loops for commercial purposes. Here's the Apple Doc:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2931
(Basically the only thing it excludes is to re-distribute the loops as loops.)
I don't know about the YouTube form, maybe you just fill in "Apple Loops", they certainly have come across this before.

  • How to use garageband loops in final cut pro x

    I have O/S 10.6.8
I have looked in the following for garageband loops, but see nothing.
    1. Mac HD > Library > Audio > Apple Loops > Apple > Apple Loops for Garage Band,
    2. Mac HD > Library > Application Support > GarageBand > Apple Loops > Apple Loops for GarageBand,
    and
    3. Username > Library > Audio > Apple Loops > User Loops. (cannot see any files here)
I am wanting to access these Apple loops to use in Final Cut Pro X.
Do I need to 'unhide' these files

I appreciate your help. As you can guess, I am new to the Apple discussion groups.
I tried unhiding files with Terminal, but that did not appear to help in this situation
I did find an answer that suits me for the mean time.
    First  -  (to see loops)
to see the Apple loops on my computer with Finder-
    -1 open Finder
-2 Click on 'Go' icon at top of page
-3 This brings drop down box
-4 Click 'Go to Folder' and enter the following
           /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Apple Loops for Garageband
Second  - to get them into Final Cuty Pro X
Create new folder in     /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple
called                         Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro
Now copy all files from    'Apple Loops for Garageband'
to       'Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro'
By creating the folder 'Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro', it livens its existing link within Final Cut Pro X,
so when you are in Final cut and go to the 'Music and Sound' icon you can now see the folder has changed from gray to blue, and you can see any files you copied into it.
Cheers to all the help from others in trying to understand Finder.

  • Is it legal to use GarageBand loops in a radio show?

I'm wondering if it is legal for me to use GarageBand loops as short jingles in a radio show. For instance, something like this:
"Thanks Sylvia for your call. Tell us what's on your mind by dialling 8888 8888 or send an email to [email protected]" *Tennessee Twister Short plays* "It's 22 to 9. How are you John?"
They would be used standalone to make a short break between parts of the show.

  • Those free .Mac GarageBand Loop downloads:

I am gathering songs and sounds for my iMovies. Regarding those free .Mac GarageBand Loop downloads: Are those sounds only for GarageBand, or if I download them, will they go into iTunes so that they are accessible for importing into an iMovie? Please excuse my ignorance on this topic. I am almost expecting someone to write and say that GarageBand loops are not playable in an iMovie for one or another reason.
Again, I am posting here bc .Mac does not allow a space for sending such questions within a .Mac framework!

    Hi Lorna:
With iMovie 4 or 5, you can 'compose' songs from
those loops in GrageBand and then save to itunes for
imovie. But the loops themselves are for GarageBand
    only.

Aw, that's what I figured — that as a Garage Band freebie, it was meant for work within Garage Band to work with Garage Band software. Oh well.... 8-(

  • HT2931 GarageBand loop as-is on a VideoGame ?

Hi ,  does anyone know if a GarageBand loop as-is can be used on
    a VideoGame without licensing troubles?
If not how much modification it requires to be considered my custom loop?
    Thank you

that might be techinically legal, but it's kind of on the edge. if you could put a drum beat behind it, or add something lightly in the background (a synth pad?), it would be better.

  • Garageband Loops don't work!  Software update not showing.

The loops in my garageband dont work. When I click on a loop, it says the apple loop is not currently installed. Then when I do a software update, there are none.

there is no update to GB 08 yet, so software update has nothing to show you.

  • Garageband Loops Not There - Please Help!

    Hi there,
About a month ago I had to replace the hard drive on my macbook. On opening Garageband today I found that the loops were all greyed out and when I clicked on them I was given the option of: Downloading them (basically a Software Update and nothing happened), leaving it or downloading from DVD. I tried to download from the DVD and it asked me to put in the OSX Install disk 2, which I did and when I clicked 'install' nothing happened. I then put in OSX Install disk 1 and re-installed garageband, got the most recent update and when I look for the loops there are none there, they aren't even greyed out they are just not there.
The only sounds that are available are:
    Ambience
    Animals
    Booms
    Explosions
    Foley
    Impacts
    Jingles
    Machines
    People
    Sci-fi
    Sports
    Stingers
    Transportation
    Work/Home
There are no drums or instrument loop there.
    I'm stumped!
If anyone can help me that would be fantastic.
    Jonny

I have tried to Install Bundled Software Only and customized it so I only installed +GarageBand Demo Songs+ and +Sounds & Jingles+ but the loops are still not installed.
