Triggering Ultrabeat patterns via MIDI - ?

Hi
For some reason I can't make the Ultrabeat pattern triggering function work. I've got the sequencer turned on, the first five patterns are assigned to their default keys, the pattern mode is on and I've tried different settings, but no patterns are triggered. Is there anything I've overlooked? Any ideas?
PowerBook G4, 1.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Nothing happens...the other music tracks play normally..but Ultrabeat doesn't budge...play lite is "blue"...but ultrabeat is dead...no action whatsoever. I've tried it in every mode. UB sounds do play when I press them...but no pattern..??? Logic is receiving the MIDI info...C-1 is displayed....turn off pattern mode and it plays with no problem..just can't control the patterns....Went to the apple store on their machine and it works fine...so it must be something in mine...guy at the store told me to uninstall and reinstall...that's my very last option...
any ideas????
thanks

  • Triggering Ultrabeat patterns in Mainstage2?

I'm just getting into midi more deeply while experimenting w mainstage and am stuck w trying to trigger ultrabeat patterns with midi notes via a fbc 1010 pedalboard. can anyone tell me if and how this might be possible?
    thanks

MAke sure that 'pattern mode' is activated, then select the desired trigger mode in the menu to the right. 'Toggle' is a good start.
Then all you need to do is trigger your patterns with the appropriate midi key. Drop down the 'pattern' menu to see which key corresponds to which pattern. The first one will be triggered by C-1, the second C-#1, and so on...
    Enjoy!
ps. this also works with the capslock keyboard.

  • How can I build a drum pattern in Ultrabeat with my midi keyboard?

So I was just wondering if I was able to build a drum beat in Ultrabeat with my midi keyboard, kinda "on the fly" as it's replaying..... For example, if I want to add some percussion in the pattern but while it's playing. Is there any way that Ultrabeat can just record in items I want via the midi board instead of clicking on the part with my mouse? It would just be much easier this way.... Thanks!

It's a shame you can't record into Ultrabeat's sequencer in realtime using a MIDI controller.
But, as CCTM says you can record into Logic's Arrange and other Editors. One to use may be the Hyper Editor. Not as pretty to look at but very similar in functionality to UB's seq.
If you need to manage your recorded sequences you can always add the recorded region to your Apple Loops Library.

  • Markers - Can I trigger looped marker sections via MIDI controller?

This is kind of a multi-part question:
I know that I can set up key commands to toggle between various markers, but can I set up a group of MIDI controller buttons so that each one represents the 1st marker, the 2nd marker, the 3rd marker, etc., etc. of whatever project/song might be loaded?
Pending that answer, is there a way to set up each marker as its own looping section (without manually changing the cycle section)? Logic makes it very inviting to write/record over looped parts, and I would love to be able to toggle between each looped section of a project, via MIDI controller hardware, for a more intuitive way to both write additional parts for each song section, as well as compose more fluid sequences and experiment with different arrangements without having to drag everything around in the arrange window. I figured that using markers would be a way to do this, since I am under the impression that I can already have the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. mapped out to MIDI controller buttons/triggers. I am hopeful that the trick can be accomplished with cycle automatically being associated with each marker section . . .
Thanks for your time, and your assistance/suggestions!

You can assign buttons to control key commands by opening the key command set-up window. Navigate to the key commands you wish. You don't need to assign an actual key command for this to work, by the way. Highlight the appropriate key command (go to marker number X in your case). At the bottom left is the 'learn new assignment' button, press it and then press a button on your keyboard. Repeat for all desired key commands.
If you type 'marker' into the search box of the key command window, you will notice a key command a few spaces up from the 'go to markers' that is called 'set locators by marker and enable cycle' - to jump to this cycle just hit play, even if it's already in play it'll jump as long as you have 'play from cycle' selected in your play button options (which it is by default). Then press record and it will be recording.
There are several other key-command strategies that end up with the same result. So explore the options to find out what works for you. Since you can only assign one key command to a button, you do have to press several buttons (select marker, set loc. at marker, play, and then record).
You could rig up a little system in the environment that splits and converts cc messages so that pressing cc24 spits out 24,25,26 which are all assigned to different key commands. So one button kicks out 3 key commands this way. It's not too complicated to set up, but you need to pay attention to what is assigned to what or else you'll end up with a spaghetti pile of confusing assignments. Start with the easy 4 button method to make sure this is actually accomplishing what you want - who knows, maybe you will discover a key command combo that takes a step or two out. Then you can take a look at combining and simplifying.

  • I am unable to add a pattern via the layers panel

Help please!  All of the sudden the "add/fill a pattern" via the layers panel on the right hand side is no longer available to me... that option is grayed out and won't let me select.  I can still "fill" a pattern from the top menu's pull down menu, but that does not let me change scale, etc.
this is a vital tool to me, and I have no idea why it just stopped working.
    Thanks!!!

  • Syncing Tascam DA78 via midi to Logic

    Hi,
I am trying to sync a Tascam DA78 to my Logic 8 studio via midi. I can get the Tascam to sync in "park" but my Logic transport won't control the Tascam DA78.The tascam will chase to wherever I am in my logic project, but I am trying to bounce in sync and need to start the DA78 from Logic I believe.
I must be missing something...is there something somewhere that says it's ok for Logic transport to control the DA78?
    Thanks.
    -Tim

    still stumped!
So...I got the tape deck icon in the top position. It lets me arm a track on the Tascam (which I don't need to do...I need to playback only)
I can record onto that tape deck icon track..sort of. It records a blank track (labled MMC recording) and stops at bar 5 consistently. And the logic playhead bar does not move during this process.
some other settings I'm not sure of:
    >Midi cable into Tascam DA78 from midi sport USB interface. Do I need any other midi cables going?
    >Tascam will now kick on from transport as long as I have Sync Mode internal and auto enable external sync checked. But having this checked disables Logic transport from starting Logic. I can control the Tascam only with auto enable checked. When I uncheck it Logic will then respond as normal but the Tascam will only locate to the playhead and not chase Logic in sync which is what I am after....I think. Unless that tapedeck icon track somehow records without moving the playhead in Logic. As I said...it records blank even with the correct analog inputs routed and stops at 5 bars.
    thats it for now.
    Thanks (again)

  • V-drums via midi

I would like to record some drums.. I have a simple set of v-drums with two 1/4 outputs. I have a simple audio interface with one XLR input and one 1/4 input.
Wondering how this might work... would it sound like crap? would it be in mono?
    Questions..questions...
And then the idea of midi out crossed my mind.

    Thanks!
    Jay

    would it sound like crap?
it would sound exactly like what it sounds like now with speakers or headphones.
    would it be in mono?
with a single 1/4" input, yes.
Could I record the vdrums via the midi in and play them back via midi out so that we can record the vdrums live in the mixdown stage synced with the rest of my song in garageband?
i can't really make any sense from this.
    you'd need a MIDI interface:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/Interfaces.html
(Click "MIDI Only" in the righthand sidebar)
you could then record your drums into a MIDI track in GB. GB offers no MIDI-OUT.

  • Changing songs live via midi

Is it possible to change from each song to another via midi? I am tired doing this by hand in a dark club. any ideas?
greetings from germany and excuse my lousy english

You do need the songs to be open-I haven't tried it for this but you may be able to use KCs through OS X.
    System Pereferences.app>Keyboard and Mouse>Keyboard shortcuts>+
And then assign it to a song title in open recent, let me know if it works...'twould be sweet. You'd then have a specific KC which the OS would open recent for you provided it was in your list.

  • How to setup Korg KP3 via MIDI to control Korg R3 synth?

How would I do this? I can understand how to hookup the synth to the environment via MIDI and setup the MIDI parameters of the KP3 as a transformer in the environment...but how do I get the two to communicate?

I'm not sure if this will help, but I've got two controllers going at the same time.
I've been using an older keyboard, a Kawai 8000, because I like the touch,
but it has very few knobs and faders. I bought an evolution U-control, with many knobs and faders, and simply physically combined the midi streams using a Midiman Merge 2x2 box. I've had no problems. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "autoscanned", unless the Cooper box is connected using some means other than midi (like USB). Does the Cooper box have a midi in connection so you can sum the midi outputs?

  • HOW DO I TRIGGER GROUPS IN AN EXS24 INSTRUMENT VIA MIDI FROM THE SCORE

HOW DO I TRIGGER DIFFERENT GROUPS IN AN EXS24 INSTRUMENT VIA MIDI CONTROLLER MESSAGES FROM THE SCORE - PLEASE ? WHERE DO I GO IN DOCUMENTATION AS HAVE GIVEN UP FOR TIME BEING WITH MULTI INSTRUMENT WHERE I CAN'T SEEM TO DEFINE CUSTOM BANK SELECTS BECAUSE I CAN'T FIND THAT OPTION. BUT MAYBE I'M ON THE WRONG TRACK ANYWAY! WITH THANKS

For those who are following this thread I have received the following info from LPH: it hasn't dealt with this through midi controllers but with key switches in a v. easy to work with fashion, though I would still like to have a result with former, if there is anybody that can give me a clear proceedure. Christian thanks for your help and if you are offay with MC's then I love to hear from you!
    METHOD #1
Create a duplicate track for those instruments which you're keyswitching. Let's just focus on one instrument for now, flute. Create a duplicate track assigned to your flute instrument ("new track with same instrument/channel"). Next, copy all of the regions from the original track onto this track and merge (glue) them to create one contiguous track. Of course if you have only one region for the part, just copy the region over to the new track.
Then go into the piano roll editor and swipe the keyboard on the left in the range of your keyswitches. Then use the command "toggle selection" and hit DELETE. Now you have a region that contains only your keyswitches.
Or, of course, you can just swipe the range that the instrument plays in. Then hit DELETE. Either way...
The final step here is to untick the "score" checkbox for this keyswitch-only region (region parameters). Now, both tracks will still play, except only the actual flute part will appear in your score.
    METHOD #2
In the score editor, open the staff style for the part. Set the highest note/lowest note range to (visually) filter out the keyswitch notes. This may seem like the easiest way to do things, but it will require you to have a distinct staff style applied to each part. For example, if you're using the Treble staff style for multiple parts (picc, flute, bass clarinet) and their key switches are in different ranges of the keyboard (as is the case with some libraries), you will need to create duplicates of "Treble", name them accordingly (picc, flute, b.clarinet), assign them to the various regions playing those parts, and then set their highest/lowest note values accordingly.

  • Connecting a Juno G synth via Midi to garageband

Is it possible to hook up my Juno G via midi and record and trigger the sounds thru garage band rather than using the software sounds of garageband and using the Juno as a controller or rather than recording the actual patches of the Juno thru the microphone. I want to sequence and utilize the patches directly via midi into garageband from my Juno G. Can this be done???
I totally appreciate any information on this matter. Thanks in advance!

  • Is there a way to change AU plugin presets via MIDI?

Unfortunately the internal preset system of a third party plugin that i use isn't accessible for MIDI mapping. So i just figured out i could use Mainstages own plugin preset handling. I need to control the "next preset" and "previous preset" buttons in the generic plugin header via MIDI, but to my surprise it doesn't show up anywhere as a possible mapping target, nor can i just use program change messages. Neither for built in nor for third party plugins.
I know in Logic the preset changing is easily accessible for MIDI, so why isn't it in Mainstage?
Changing presets would be way more efficient than adding tons of extra patches or sets that complicate the whole concert, so i am happy about any advice.
    cheers

    Hi MiloszCzeslaw,
    Big question
The first answer is no (a thing apple forget...) but It can be done with some time to setup things.
Can you send your concert (or patch) or try to explain what you really wanna do (which AU...)
If you send me the concert I will try to configure it to you.
    Hope I´ve helped.
(moodysenor the same applies to you)
    Best regards

  • Can I sync a Mac and a PC via MIDI using Logic? How would that be?

I use my Mac running Logic Pro as my primary music making environment. However, I would like to use my PC as a MIDI instrument which would be controlled by and sync'ed to Logic via MIDI.
    Is that possible?
How can I set my PC (I can run Cubase SX, Live 5, Reason or V-Stack) to behave as a slave to the Logic Pro running on my mac - just as if it were... say... a roland synth? I would like my PC to slave to tempo, transport controls, etc. Can I do that at all?

Well, you should have a dedicated sync MIDI cable. Assign Logic to transmit MTC. Tell Cubase to chase it.
    Song settings>Synchronization>MIDI
that is where you can tell Logic to transmit MTC. When routing back to Logic you shuld not expect significant latency and there are ways to offset it. The easiest would probably tell Cubase to run a little ahead of the clock. (Offset)
So there is the Logic settings panel Cubase has one similar, for chasing. If you use a dedicated audio interface and transfer audio digitally from PC to Mac then you would want to have then synced via word clock. I would put Logic as the master here again.

  • Logic has 400 Ultrabeat patterns....where?

Apple says they have 400 new patterns for ultrabeat...where are they?
I've found maybe 100 (max) attached to the various drum kits, but no pattern bank as such...
Has anyone figured out this mystery?
    Many thanks for your help...
    John

If each drum kit has 10 patterns, and there are 40 drum kits, the maths would add up.. no?
    And no, I haven't counted...
Edit: I just had a brief survey - I counted about 60 odd kits just in the drum kits folders, and I loaded up a few of them - they each had at least ten patterns in...
