Trim Edit window won't resize

This is odd.
When I double click an edit point to open the trim edit window, it opens up about 50% smaller than it should to cover the viewer and canvas. Even more strange, it won't let me resize the trim edit window. I go to the corner and try to pull it around, but it won't move.
Any ideas?

Adobe camera raw window won't resize and can't reach buttons

When I open an image from bridge into adobe camera raw 6.1 (Photoshop CS5) on my laptop, the camera raw window fills all of the screen (top to bottom) and the buttons at the bottom of the window are below the task bar. Thus I can't open the image in photoshop except by hitting the enter key. I can't reach the open, etc buttons. The window won't resize and there are no icon/buttons in the right upper corner to go to/from full screen. When I hit the icon in the top right hand menu bar in ACR (to go to full screen size) the window then fills the whole width of the screen in addition to the height, but no matter what I do I can't get the height of the window to shrink, so that I can access the icons at the bottom of the screen. Don't worry about turning aero off just yet.
There are two key first questions:
What is your screen resolution (width in pixels x height in pixels)? Right-click on desktop, choose Screen Resolution.
What setting have you chosen for the display size (Smaller, Medium, Larger) in the Display dialog? Right-click on desktop, choose Personalize, then Display.

Final Cut Pro 6.05 Crashes Using Trim Edit Window - RED footage

Hello,
I ingested the RED video through log and transfer using Apple Pro Res 422 as described in the *Using RED Media with Final Cut Studio* document. The ingesting process and rough cutting have gone fine (no more problems than working with SD footage anyway) but FC Pro 6.0.5 crashes consistently (and not gracefully) when I try to use the trim edit window.
The short film is at 22 minutes now, and will finish up around 25 minutes. My source files are on a 1Tb Lacie drive (about 280 Gb free) and I'm working off a second 1Tb Lacie drive (about 200Gb free). Both are connected via Firewire 400. I tried going back to an old SD file to see if trim edit works there and it does.
Questions:
Anyone else having problems with this?
Is my system beefy enough to handle this footage? If not, what suggestions do you have for making it work better?
If I just need to live with it, do you have any suggestions for workarounds?

Thanks Jerry - that makes sense. I wanted to move to a Mac Pro tower for this project but was laid off in June and haven't had much luck finding steady work.
I'm seeing similar issues with Motion - it doesn't crash but it will hang the system up completely. I've been looking for a good reference that will help me determine the best system I can build for the purpose of HD editing and Motion graphics - do you have any recommendations?

GarageBand window won't resize

Garage Band window won't resize...I can see the bottom but not the top..if I do anything to it, I lose the bottom completely and have to start from scratch.

Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences

So, in my FCP7 projects, the Boris 3D text editing window won't open without deleting FCP preferences first. I've tried new projects, old projects, open all new windows on top settings. Once I delete the preferences, viola, opens right up. I can rebuild my preferences and after just a few days it won't open again... without preference delete.
I'm on a Macbook Pro 17'" i7 and do most of my editing on a 27" Apple Cinema Display. This is the only reason I could come up with. However I did some editing from the Macbook's screen and after 1 day, the Boris 3D editing window again refused to open. I have no idea. Is this is a known bug, etc.?

With Final Cut not running, trash the Boris Title 3D preference file.
/Library/Preferences/Title 3D Preferences
Also, you could have a corrupt or duplicate font file. Open FontBook and check it out.

Trim Edit Window Dynamic Editing

When I'm in the Trim Edit Window with the Dynamic Editing mode turned on, how can I get both the left and right side of the edit to play simultaneously? I have both sides "activated," meaning I'm in "Roll" mode, not "Ripple" mode. Yet only one side plays! Furthermore, it plays without audio. How do I get audio to play also?

FCP doesn't allow for playback on more than a single window, be it Viewer vs. Canvas in standard layouts, or Outgoing vs Incoming Clip in the Trim Edit Window.
About the audio not playing, is Linked Selection toggled off by any chance? (From the Menubar, check Edit > Linked Selection is checked). If it was, check it, then reselect your edit point(s). If not, post back.

Trim Edit Window Issues

Hi,
Experiencing some trouble with the Trim Edit window. Here's what's happening.
I double click an edit point on the timeline to launch the Trim Edit window. Okay. Sometimes it works fine and I get the outgoing clip on the left and the incoming clip on the right, and when I adjust the edit point, it is reflected in the Out/In Shift indicator at the bottom of each window with a +00:00:03 or -00:00:02 or whatever.
But sometimes I launch the Trim Edit window and both the left and the right windows are black. Sometimes I launch the Trim Window and the incoming clip is correct, but the outgoing clip is cued up wrong, or vice versa. When this is the case, the Out/In Shift counters are also out of whack. For example, an actual adjustment of +2 frames comes out as reading +00:15:03 on the indicator. In addition, sometimes the video clip is correct but the audio that plays comes from somewhere else entirely in the clip. It's pretty frustrating.
Now, to dig a little further, we are importing these clips with a Kona 2 card using the 1080psf 23.98 DVCPro HD codec and cutting on a 23.98 timeline. Some of the audio coming in on the master tapes isn't usable, so we are also importing audio from a back up system. I find the sync clap on the video and line it up with the sync clap on the backup audio. I hilight the video and audio tracks hit Command+L to link them, and then drag into my browser to make a new master clip.
I must be doing something wrong in the linking process, because these Trim Edit window problems seem to only occur with the newly linked clips. But the strange part is that it isn't consistent. Yesterday the Trim Edit wasn't working properly on a particular scene. Today I go back to that scene and the Trim Edit function works fine.
So, after reading this epic post, if anyone has any insight or ideas on how to solve this problem, I'd appreciate it.

we use dv camera in progressive mode (panasonic ag-dvx100a Pal)
sound is recording on compactflash card in wave format
and i have to synchronise 2 video tracks (2 cameras shooting simultanely) and one stereo sound track
i put aux tc on the second video and the stereo pair and link them all
I'm working on 2 powerbooks
1. powerbook 1.33Gb with 10.4.4 and quicktime 7.04 andfcp 5.04
2. powerbook 1.5Gb with 10.4.2 and quicktime 7.xx and fcp 5
i use a g-raid 500gb firewire 800 to digitalise the clips
When I use the roll or ripple tool with few tracks selecting I can only work in the timeline.
When I open the "edit trim" window, the application crash down or more oftently the pictures I get in both sides of the window when I move even one frame forward or backward, aren't the right ones.
it changes everytime for example: on the left side I get +5:02 shift and the right side +3:10 shift
i try to create new project or smaller one even by XML export
i try to trash preferences
but there's no change
May be have you a idea or a suggestion?
it seems that external sound source or/and linking and merging fonction in this case are the problem

Finder window won't resize after switching spaces

I've got my mbp set up with 12 spaces and designate apps to particular spaces.
When I open a new finder window in space 2, I can move it and resize it no problem.
If I then switch to another space and then switch back to space 2, I can't resize the finder window. I can still move it, but just can't resize it.
Does anyone know a way around this bug?

I can also confirm this bug. Finder windows seem to "forget" where they are on the screen. This is very clear when renaming a file: the highlighted, editable filename text shows up some seemingly random distance from the filename displayed in the Finder window.
This can also be seen when using Quick Look. The file zooms to the full Quick Look preview not from the file icon, but from some random point on the screen.
Same goes for dragging and dropping. For example, if you want to drag a file into an existing folder, you have to hover some distance from the actual folder, the same distance you see when you rename a file or use Quick Look. The Finder window doesn't know its position on the screen after using Spaces or Expose.

Mail 7.0- email windows won't resize

In my Mac Mail 7.0 when I open an new email or reply the window size is too big for my screen and won't reszie, even if I press the green button.
Happened since I updated OS X Mavericks
Any idea how to stop this happening - it makes it impossible to write emails.

[edit] I dragged the email I sent through the MBP Mail app (under MAILBOXES > Sent > Yahoo!) to the highlighted Sent folder (YAHOO! > Sent), and now it shows up on all Yahoo Sent folders (iPad app, web browser, phone app). Not entirely solved the issue but will use web browser to sent future emails to keep everything in sync.

Height/width of document window won't resize?

I'm working on a document. I can't get the height or width of the window to resize. It isn't set to full screen. It's some random dimension and it's driving me crazy. Please tell me it's a simple fix! Thank you!

DVD Player window won't resize properly

I have several DVDs recorded on an LG DVD recorder that are the wrong aspect ratio (they play what should be 16:9 as 4:3, making everything look tall and narrow). I have tried everything in DVD Player to fix this, but only one thing works :
Select Video Zoom
Deselect "Lock aspect ratio"
Select Manual mode and move "Width" slider until picture looks correct
At this point, the adjustments have moved the left and right edges of the video out of the Viewer window. "Hey, no problem" I thought, "I'll just resize the Viewer window horizontally until the whole video is showing".
Unfortunately, I can't. Dragging the bottom right of the Viewer window resizes it both horizontally and vertically DESPITE the "Lock aspect ratio" box being unchecked. In other words, it wants to preserve a 4:3 aspect even though I have adjusted the width slider manually.
What I'm left with, is a window that shows the video undistorted, but with the left and right edges missing. What am I doing wrong, or this a bug in DVD Player?

I launched VLC (which I already have), browsed the VIDEO_TS folder and clicked Play. Immediately VLC started playing in the correct 16:9 window and the video looked correct.
It seems this must be a woeful discrepancy in Apple's own DVD Player, which I certainly wouldn't have expected. I can use VLC for all similar videos from now on, though it doesn't give me the menu burned by the LG as DVD Player does. However, that's perhaps a small price to pay.

Extendscript editing window won't open, is there anything besides re-install RH

I'm using RH10. I can still run scripts, for example the word count script, but I cannot edit existing or create new scripts. The ExtendScript IDE just does not appear. No error message. No freezing of RH. Nothing.
It did work. I don't know when it stopped because I didn't use scripts often. I've looked at everything I could find on-line. Anybody have any ideas?

The only thought that comes to mind here is that maybe at some point it was open on a second monitor and it's still trying to present there and you simply cannot see it?
If that's the case, try pressing and holding your Windows logo key on the keyboard, then press the left arrow key a couple of times and see if the window pops into the viewable area.

Itunes browser window won't resize to enable license agreement for ipod

Hi,
hope someone can help me I am new to itunes and just purchased an ipod classic.Every thing is fine except I can't resize the itunes browser window to be able to read and accept the license agreement to be able to use my ipod.
The document seems too large for the browser window.I know there must be an accept button to click on to agree to the terms,but it is not visible.I can read the agreement of terms.But I can only see the cancel and save buttons on left at the bottom of screen.There is no sliding bar to access the right hand side of the page/doc/browser window.
I've tried looking in preferences,itunes help doc. and stretching the window using the mouse, to no avail.

Vector path edit window won't open

Hello,
A bit earlier today, I was able to select a vector path, click the options arrow, select Edit path... and get a dialog of options to choose (Ink percent, Spacing, etc.). Now I can do all those things still, but the dialog of path edit options does not appear.
Also, earlier today, I saved a set of path options I had chosen, but it never appeared among the paths available to choose. When I went through the process again and tried to save, I was asked if I wanted to overwrite what I saved earlier. So it did save earlier, but never showed up for me to choose.

Be careful of your terminology; I think you're talking about strokes and brush options, not vector paths.
The Edit Strokes panel (a.k.a. Advanced stroke options) is available from within the Properties panel in two locations. The most direct route is the Edit Stroke button, but this doesn't appear for all selections or tools—for example, you'll find it when either the Ellipse or Polygon tools are selected, but not when the Rectangle tool is selected. The other, indirect route is through the Stroke presets/categories menu, at the bottom of the menu, under Stroke Options. In the resulting panel, you'll see an "Advanced" button that leads to the same Edit Stokes panel.
Once you've saved a custom stroke, it should appear within the Stroke presets/categories menu in the Properties panel, assuming a vector tool (or vector object on the canvas) has been selected. (That said, I've never actually saved a custom stroke myself.) Try looking for it under whatever category the original stroke belonged to—e.g., Basic, Airbrush, Calligraphy, Charcoal, etc.

Trim Edit

Can someone please help with a Trim Edit problem. I am using Final Cut Express 4.
I wanted to insert a transition between two clips but I did not have 'handles' on them. So, I have clicked on the 'join' between two clips and brought up the 'Trim Edit' window. I wanted to adjust the 'Out' point on the outgoing clip and the 'In' point on the incoming clip. Based on my reading of the manual, I should have been able to adjust these points by dragging either the 'marker' or the 'scrubber', this creating 'handles' in one hit. I have tried everything without success. I can only adjust the 'ends' either in the Viewer (by trimming) or in the Timeline by cutting. that seems rather clumsy. I would have thought that i should be able to adjust the end points in the Trim Edit window.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Look at the green bars above the images in the trim edit window. The green bars indicate what's selected to edit. Green bar on the left you're trimming the outgoing shot. Green bar on the right you're trimming the incoming shot. Green bar over both you're rolling the edit points, which you can't do if there isn't enough handles. Click on the left so the green bar is over the outgoing shot. Move the playhead back into the shot 15 frames and press O to mark a new Out point. Or click the trim buttons three times. Click on the right side to trim the incoming shot. Move the playhead and press I to mark in the In point, or click the trim buttons to trim the shot by 15 frames.
