Trim shortcut doesn't always select edit points

Hello my trim mode shortcut isn't always working. When I press T, the majority of the time nothing happens. I've checked in my keyboard shortcuts and T is indeed the key for trim mode.
I've found that if I maually select edit points then press T it will go into trim mode, but only for that edit point. If I press up/down trim mode will go away until I select a edit point again.
If I press T and don't have any edit points selected the program doesn't respond at all.
Previously trim mode was working normally, but I've started a new project and I'm not sure why it stopped.
I have Adobe Premier CC and I'm pretty sure it's the latest version since I'm only 10 days into my trial.

Ok I checked my version, it's 7.2.1 (4)
In this video at 1:43, he presses T without having any edit points selected and it selects an edit point.

That's what's wasn't working for me.
Today it seems to be working for me again, however I still don't know what I did to make it stop working yesterday. If there is something I did wrong I like to know so I know how to fix it if I have this problem again.
Either way thank you for the help.

  • Disable Edit Point Selection

An old thread turned back up recently and reminded me of this.  I know a lot of keyboard editors requested edit point selection and Adobe has catered to that request.  Unfortunately, a lot of us combo editors (keyboard/mouse) are now stuck with a feature that actually slows down the edit process.  I'd love to return to the way 5.5 worked in this regard - no edit point selection, and only Slide or Ripple edits available with the normal Selection tool (V), with Rolling edits requiring the switch to the Rolling Edit tool (N).  So, here is a Feature Request that can be copied/pasted into the Adobe form.
Please add a new option under Edit>Preferences>General... labeled "Allow Edit Point Selection".  With this option checked, Premiere Pro would function as it does in CS6 and the user would be able to select edit points in the sequence.  With it unchecked, Premiere Pro would function as it did in 5.5 and no such selection would be possible.
Regardless of how that box is checked, please remove the ability to perform Rolling Edits when the standard Selection Tool is being used (V) as it actually interferes when trying to access the normal Slide or Ripple edit functionality.  For Rolling Edits, we have a Rolling Edit tool.  We do not need that functionality doubled up.
    https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

I canreally  understand why "drag and drop and mouse trim" (plus razor tool) editors might dislike Edit Point Selection functionality.
So...I dont mind if you guys do get your wish as regards making this an OPTION....but I do not want it to dissapear or get broken!
I am fine with Edit Points and have adapted to it by a simple change of how I "edit the cuts and trims".  I really like my new "edit style" but admit I also get caught by it occassionally.
In that regard....I wont support your Feature Request because I am fearful that something else will get broken in the process of fulfilling your wish.... or something else will change that I have to adapt to again.
    Good luck anyway.

  • [CS4] AIPathSuite::SetPathSegments() selects all points

    Hi,
I'm desparetly trying to adapt my Plug-in to AI CS4. It works fine under CS3 & older. But the same code recompiled under CS4 SDK, does nastly changes in the selection of points within paths. Indeed, calling AIPathSuite::SetPathSegments() does NOT retain the existing selection state as it did in CS3 & older, but will ALWAYS select ALL points of a partially selected path. This is an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY for my plug-in to retain the existing selection state for partially selected paths. I tried without any success any ways I could imagine to turn around this bug, incl. saving the selection state before changing the points' ordinates and restoring it after; similarly for the path art attr... Apparently, this is out of control of the plus-in. AI seems to alter the selection after my plus-in routines exits.
FWIW, my plug-in does not use LiveEffet since it does not make sense for the plug-in. I'm developping under Mac OS X, but I guess it would give the same results under Windows.
    Please help, I'm deperate.
Too many customers are angry because I cannot provide an update for CS4
    TIA

I assume this is a filter? I believe AI auto-selects anything touched when a filter runs. I thought it had always done that frankly.
If you need to maintain selection, I'd try adding one step to your 'save & restore' strategy. Illustrator is going to beat on you selection, you can't win that fight. So you just have to let it change the selection and THEN restore your previous selection. I believe you can achieve that using a timer. Create a timer with a zero length and I think it will fire after Illustrator is finished. You can create this and turn it on when you finish your filter, then turn it off as soon as you catch it, effectively making it a one-shot timer. When you catch the timer, you restore you selection at that point and hopefully you've circumvented Illustrator's attempt to 'help' you. Why this isn't an option on the filter I'll never know.
I've used this technique before to solve simillar problems, so I think it will help here. At any rate, good luck

  • Why doesn't the 'top edit' 'q' shortcut work for me on my timeline? The 'w' 'tail edit' works fine though.

If someone could help me out with what I'm missing I would be most grateful! Thanks!

Thanks for your response Jim. I'm following a Lynda tutorial in which it says:
"If I want to trim off everything at the head, maybe this is all me talking before the camera starts rolling, I can do what's called a Top and Tails edit.
So, the keyboard shortcuts for this are Q and W, and they're right next to each other on the keyboard. If I hit the Q key, it will lop off everything before the play head to that edit point. So now, we just have the back half of the clip. Let me undo that, Cmd+Z. And if I hit the W, it will lop off everything to the right of where the play head is parked."
It seems to work for him in the video, and I can get the W shortcut to work but not the Q one. Not sure why!

  • What's the quickest way to put edit points around a selection?

In the timeline (TL) I have made a selection inside a clip (using the Range Selection tool):
What is the quickest way to make this selection a separate clip (as below)?:
PS Saying 'put edit points around' and 'make separate clip', I guess are always the same thing, so I have mixed my terms!?
PS I have currently been using: CMD + X, CMD + V, but this is a hack, not a method, so there has to be a way, right?

Thanks to you all for quick replies, especially Andy for quickly understanding me.
Yup, I used the Range Selection tool. It's a great tool, when for e.g. you want to lift ambient room tone from a portion of an audio clip to paste elsewhere.
Anyway, I am just experimenting thoroughly with all the tools and workflows, to find quickest ways of doing things. To answer your question(s): an example in which you would want to do what I mention above is if you wanted to quickly apply particular Effects/Parameters/Settings to a portion of a clip, like a sepia tint, and wanted to be able to easily click back to that portion later,  see e.g. below:

  • Select Next Edit Point

Anyone notice a keyboard shortcut which will select the next edit point?
For example, with a series of still images, I would like to quickly move to the next edit point, insert the cross dissolve transition, move to the next edit point etc.
Currently I only seem to be able to manually move the cursor and and select the edit point.  Am looking for a keyboard shortcut to move quickly.
    Thanks.

    A Bit More.
I know that the up and down arrows move to the next edit point, but it is not "selected" to insert a transition there you have to click on the edit point first.
I am looking for a keyboard shortcut which will move to AND select the next edit point.

  • How ripple edit an edit point incrementally, frame by frame in CC?

I know I can do this in CS6, since I do it daily at my job, but on my home computer running CC, I can't seem to figure out how to trim or ripple edit in one frame increments? I remap a lot of my keys, so I don't remember what they are originally, and I can't seem to figure out the name of this command.

Select the edit point with the Ripple Trim tool, the Tolling Edit tool, or the Selection tool, then press the keyboard shortcut for Trim Forward or Trim Back:

      Trim Backward

  • Continuing... to select more points or items in illustrator with click shift and drag?

    OK,
here is the dilemma, and i bet there is a nifty shortcut to it.
We all know how to continue select say object or points within illustrator yes, in saying this we will select one point, and then use thte mouse to select more points by covering space over a document, whilst holding shift(multiple itmes etc.)
As i am trying to select more points, but say, they are scattered small individual shapes, like say little specks of small shapes, but countless, millions, but at the same time i have other shapes which i dont want to select, but, i want to continue selecting shapes thouhgh whilst holding down shift, i dont want to reverse the procedure, i want to select more and more tiny dots, even if i click and drag over the already selected dots.
Now, how do i go about saying holding down an extra key, lets just say, the letter h for example on the keyboard, and it will activate the whole click drag and shift procedure but to not deselect the points i already i have selected..
If this does not make sense let us know, but i was wondering for what i am doing, i want to be able to continue working my way up with selecting a whole array of tiny shapes, but select more and more as i work my way up or down.
If you dont understand try it in illustrator first and see what i mean, then get back to us, as for what i am doing i need a shortcut, along with the shift key and click drag.
    Thanks.

Short answer.. You can't. Shift-clicking is a toggle. It selects or deselects based on the current selection state. If you shift-click or shift-click-drag over a selected object, it will become deslected in all cases.
Long answer... Probects invoving intricate objects are generally best handled by good layer management. Setting up a project using layers as you construct can make selections much, much, easier in the long run. Of course, if something is already created it may not be an easy task to rethink layers. There's also the little known "Save Selection" item in the Select menu. This will allow you to save something you already have selected and reslect it later. You might find that you can shift-select an area, save that selection, then start selecting another areas. This doesn't really address your initial issue since you can't shift-load a selection to add it to the existing selection. But it may help with getting some things selected, then reselected easily.
You can also shift-click the selection circle next to an object in the Layers Panel. This avoids mis-clicks or accidentally selecting something you already had selected.

  • Cannot speed clips up without it ruining edit points

Hi I am having real nightmares with Premiere. It just never seems to do even the most basic tasks properly.
I am simply trying to create a benny hill style spoof. I have cut the sequence at NORMAL speed. Then I selected all video clips in the sequence and chose Clip Speed Duration and put in 250%. I have tried both with Ripple Edit on and off. It doesn't make a blind bit of difference. Each time it speeds up the clips but the edit points maintain the exact same positions in time. In other words the whole sequence is screwed up because at 250% speed, each clip effectively runs longer and the edits are useless. What could it possibly think I mean when I speed up the clips and then tell it to ripple edits? I have absolutely no idea what is going on here? Is this yet another bug with this software. I have recently moved from Final Cut and never had any such problems in that tool. Does anyone know what is going on? I tried nesting the clips into one but then the option to set speed is not available so that's useless.
Thanks for any help or an explanation of why this is happening. This is CC2014 by the way

Ok I just worked it out. I have to click the link thing next to speed. I can't say I'm impressed with this usability though. If I have created edit points why would I want to trash them by speeding up a clip? Surely it makes complete sense to scale the edit as well. So if I'm speeding up all clips, logic would suggest that the sequence will be shorter surely. The way this works by default is completely non sensical in my opinion. Of course it may be that I accidentally activated this option and the default is to scale clips on changing duration. Any suggestions here?

  • Way to selectively edit "other" forms in AutoFill?

Is there any way to selectively edit the choices that popup in search fields (other forms in AutoFill preferences)?
I use a certain database frequently and would like to keep the results from previous searches, but on occasion I make a typo and then that will reappear later as a possible option (the list has about 20-30 entries so it would be easier to manage if it could be trimmed).
    Thanks

    Hi Oliver
Yes but this doesn't solve the issue of future typos…I don't want to go through the whole list each time I want to "purge" any misspelled entries that pop up.
Unfortunately, that's the "nature of the beast". Personally, I like Internet Explorer for Mac's method for auto-fill.
With Safari 3.0 on the way (OS X Leopard debut), consider sending feedback to Apple suggesting a different approach to autofill.
    Thanks for the

  • Edit points in multiclip disappear

I've set up a multiClip, which I've gone through and edited but when I finish editing the edit points simply disappear when I get to the end of the clip. All the blue edit marks are gone and there are no edit points.
I've done this a number of times and always the same result. What am i doing wrong?

I figured it out myself--my bad. I didn't have the 'button bars multiclip' option selected. I was changing my camera angle views in the viewer and canvas but not actually making any actual cuts to the video.

  • Lightroom won't ask how to edit a file when I select "edit in Photoshop CS6"

Yesterday Lightroom suddenly stopped asking how I want the file edited when I select "edit in Photoshop".  I opens the file directly in Photoshop without asking do I want to "edit with Lightroom changes", "edit a copy", or "edit original".
I've tried finding a setting to turn this on or off and found nothing.  I've tried shutting down.  I've even tried removing and reloading both Photoshop and Lightroom.  As far as I can tell it has defaulted to always opening with LR edits.
I'm using Lightroom 5.3 and Photoshop CS6 extended version 13.0. I ran updates on both after reloading yesterday.  I'm using the Mac versions of the software.
    Please help!

Is it possible that you've switched to using Raw (or DNG) files? There is a different process when using a Raw file versus using a rendered file such as Jpeg, Tiff, PSD....and it's only the latter file-types which will prompt the "Edit a copy, Edit original, etc" question. If the ACR levels are compatible (which they will be if your ACR plug-in for PS CS6 is up-to-date) then there will be NO question when using "Edit In...." on a Raw/DNG file, the file is rendered automatically in the background by Photoshop's ACR plug-in, when you then "Save" in PS the now-rendered file (Tiff or PSD, depending on your external editing preference setting) will appear back in Lightroom.

  • When I Select "Edit in Photoshop," Lightroom sends a JPG instead of a PSD or TIFF

To get started, I'm on LR 5.2RC and Photoshop CS6.  All software is up to date and both ACR's are the same at 8.2.  And my source files are all JPEG's.
When I select the "Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS6" option on an image, I get the proper "What to Edit" pop-up window and have the option to edit a copy with LR adjustments, edit a copy, or edit original.  My problem is that no matter what option I choose, LR will make a copy of the image as a JPG (rather than a PSD) and send that to Photoshop.
I've gone to LR preferences and tried changing the file format option to TIFF to see if that would work, but same problem...LR still makes a JPG and sends that to PS.
Any thoughts on how to fix this?

It sounds to me as if you may be selecting a user-saved external editing preset rather than the built-in Edit in PS option.
PSD / TIFF / JPG are the filetype options for the former, but the latter only allows PSD / TIFF.
If so, such a preset includes a selection of file format, bit depth and colourspace that may differ from the selection seen in the upper part of the External Editing dialog. This preset may not currently appear in the lower part of this dialog either.
The lower part of this dialog is used as a workbench for managing as many editing setup options as you like. These can be named and saved as a preset, or recalled for adjustment and re-saving (update), using the "Preset:" menu.
The "Edit in PS" context menu when used within e.g. Develop, will show any named editing presets you have made below (but only if successfully auto-configured) a built-in "Edit in PS" option which is controlled by the upper part of the dialog mentioned above. The built-in option is not dependent on any user preset. One indication that LR has not properly configured itself for the presence of your PS, is if the additional options (Panorama, HDR, as Layers) do not appear when you highlight more than one image and select Edit in...
This configuration apparently can be "broken" by uninstalling an earlier version of PS, which removes some system configuration that the later PS would be relying on for its LR partnering. Or I guess there may be other causes.
IIRC, usually the answer to that, is a "repair" reinstall of PS - which LR should then properly recognise.
One comment: if PS and LR are configured as "aligned" versions, it is normal to meanwhile see the filetype of the source image file as the document window title within your PS session - even if that source file is Raw, which is not something you can in fact edit using PS. This rather misleading IMO document title, collapses down to an actual proper filename only once the document has been Saved from PS - or if you close PS without saving, no actual file is made at all.
Only then is LR's suggestion of filetype, filename and saving location (as configured in LR's external editing options) implemented for real - though if you instead select Save As, those suggestions can all be overridden by the user, and LR should still auto-import the resulting brand new file.
OTOH, if you are using any external editing preset or if ACR+LR versions are not aligned, the file you see inside PS is always one which has already been saved (and already auto-imported to LR).

  • Can a Journal status be changed so it doesn't get selected for posting?

When a new journal is created, can we change the status so it doesn't get selected for posting by teh Auto-Post program. We can't set this in the Auto-Post program as we use the same Category and Source for creating other journals which need to go through the Auto-Post program. Is there a control at the journal level which can stop it from getting posted?
