Trim support not enabled

I got this MBA with SSD(251GB) a couple of weeks ago.  I noticed that the "No" is shown for the Trime support. Does this mean that Apple SSD does not support Trim? Or, can that Trim support be enabled?

With the 10.6.8 update apple has added in TRIM support for stock apple oem ssd drives. 3rd party ssd drives are still s.o.l for Trim support at this time even in LION unless you use the "trim enabler" hack.
I do not advise doing so, as it has messed with a few systems, and basically could just be code that switches the "no" to a "Yes" in profiler without any actual background use.

  • TRIM Support not showing active for Intel SSD

I've heard different things about whether or not it is super important but I figured it was better to have then not. I installed Lion this morning on my Intel
160 GB SSD in my Mac Pro. When I checked System Profiler, TRIM was not enabled. I thought TRIM was listed as a feature of Lion. I'm not upset or mad. It's working well for me otherwise but just something to point out.

Hmmmm... Well I read it all over the web but now when I check the product page, I don't see it list.

  • If I get one of the Toshiba SSDs and put it in my 2011 MBP, will it auto enable trim support?

If I get one of the Toshiba SSDs and put it in my 2011 MBP, will it auto enable trim support?

It is outrageous that Appe deliberately does not enable TRIM support native to the OS to non Apple SSD drives automatically. Even worse is to cancel it after an update of the OS.
It is forcing anyone who does not add up to your greedy aftersales target to eventually experience trouble with their non Apple drives.
    It is monopoly, isn't it?
It does also sounds petty, very disgusting from such a reputable company.
I love Apple but they do not need to go down such length to whatever are their aims.
Very disappointed to find out that the TRIM support I enabled prior to the update 10.9.3 is now disable.
    Simply unbelievable!

  • Trim support in mountain lion for third party ssd

    Hi,
I have an Intel 320 series SSD in my intel core duo 2008 2.6ghz macbook pro.
I had trim support enabled in Lion and tried to re-enable it with the usual terminal commands after upgrading to ML.
The first two commands to back up and patch the new file appear to work, but when I try to clear the 1st cache using:
    sudo kextcache -system-prelinked-kernel
    I get the following error:
Kernel file /mach_kernel does not contain requested arch: i386
Then in system information after reboot it says that trim has not enabled.
Does anyone know how I can re-enable trim support.
    Many thanks,
    Simon

I tried this and it wouldn't work for me. It backed up the file, but when I tried to open the .kext file with the same editor he used, it wouldn't allow me to open it. I also tried logging in as the root user and didn't work either. Any ideas?

  • Trim Support in RAID 0 on a P55-GD65

I have some confusion regarding TRIM support in RAID 0. I have 2x80 GB Intel X-25M G2 SSDs in RAID 0 on a P55-GD65 mobo. I am not using a RAID card, and my OS is Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I just flashed the latest firmware update for the drives. According to the Intel SSD Toolbox, TRIM is not enabled. I have the latest Intel Chipset Drivers from Intel's site rather then the MSI downloads center. After doing some reading it sounds like if I back up my data, set the drives to ACHI rather then RAID, rebuild the array, and restore my back up, the drive will support TRIM. Is that correct?

If I am not mistaken, "TRIM" is generally a no-go in RAID-Mode conigurations.

  • TRIM Support Enabler Patch

    Hi Community,
I read a lot of posts the last view days which explained that the TRIM support will only work with Apple SSDs, but there are many patches available which should enable the TRIM support for those third party SSDs as well. Are those patches only fakes or are they functional? Has anyone confirmed if those patches doing there job as expected?
    Thx & Bye Tom

Technically, TRIM is not supported by Lion for non-Apple-branded SSDs, but there is a work around for this.
The procedure described here worked beautifully for me: http://digitaldj.net/2011/07/21/trim-enabler-for-lion/

  • Should I enable trim support on Crucial M4 512?

    I've got a Macbook Pro 10.8.2 , mid 2010 , with a Crucial M4 512 SSD installed.
Is there a benefit in trying to enable trim support?
    Thanks, Jon

I also wasn't impressed. Sometimes hangs etc.
I enabled trim and now everything seems faster. May be the reboot.
I tested performance before and that seemed good for copying a file or so, but not for lot's a file access.
    I ran in 1 terminal : iostat -d 1
in another : mkfile 1g empty
    cp empty empty2
    that looked great.
    anyways, happy with trim now.

Try a Safe Boot to clear the dyld_shared_cache (dynamic loader cache)

Safe Boot, which automatically rebuilds this cache (among other things).

  • Cisco 7921 - Spectrum management is not enabled/supported by AP.

    Hi all :)
I get the following alarm from the site survey on a 7921.
Spectrum management is not enabled/supported by AP.
Can anyone tell me what this means?
Also, when you are walking around doing a site survey, what is the CU?
    Many thx indeed,
    Ken

This is referring to 802.11h when using 5 GHz.
I assume this is the Cisco Unified Wireless LAN Controller?
If so, check to ensure that Channel Announcement and Channel Quiet Mode are enabled
See page 44 in the 7921G Deployment Guide @ http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7921g/6_0/english/deployment/guide/7921dply.pdf')">http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cuipph/7921g/6_0/english/deployment/guide/7921dply.pdf.
CU stands for Channel Utilization, which is based on QBSS information provided by the AP to inform the client how busy the channel is.

  • TRIM support available in Mac OS X 10.6.8 update?

Several Apple fansites are reporting that the recently released Mac OS X 10.6.8 update adds TRIM support for non-third party SSDs, with screenshots as proof. Since I own a MacBook Pro with SSD built in, I was quite excited about this. However, after installing the update and restarting, System Profiler still says TRIM support is not available... My questions to the Community:
    * Did anyone else have this experience? Do you have TRIM support enabled after installing 10.6.8 or not?
    * Did I miss a step somewhere? Should I enable some setting manually?
    Thanks in advance. Cheers!

    Hi,
    same same.
    SSD native on a mbp Q4 2009.
I was excited to activate TRIM functionality with the 10.6.8 upgrade...no way...
I heard we still have hope with the final release 10.7
Apple, you should take care of geeks like us experiencing with SSD before all the others.
We expect you to fix the TRIM function....
    Thanks,

  • Can't turn on trim support on APPLE SSD SM128

    Hello,
I'm hving problem with starting trim support on my SSD (i'm new at this ssd thingy)...as stated in the topic its an APPLE SSD SM128...
I've downloaded and started the Trim Enabler app and rebooted my computer a few times, but still i get the same msg:
"the patch is active, but the trim is not working"!
    btw, im on osx 10.8.3
Does anybody know what should i do?

I bought a used late 11' Macbook Pro which came with a apple braned SSD 120gb. I took it out and popped it in my old 06' intel core 2 duo 17" Macbook pro running lion. To enable Trim I downloaded Chameleon SSD, Works GREAT!!
    download link
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/43656/chameleon-ssd-optimizer
Ohh I bought a Samsung 840 pro 256gb and popped that in my late 11' (Mt lion) Macbook pro using Chameleon SSD Trim support on it. That too works flawlessly!!!!!!!!
    Good Luck!
    Keep us posted.

  • My SSD install in Lion shows no TRIM support.  How do I fix?

Hi folks.  I had my new 2011 mini upgraded with an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD drive.  I checked for TRIM support after a clean install of Lion and it says No.  How do I fix this?  Thanks.

I think some want to believe TRIM is needed; or, it was with older model SSDs.
The TRIM Enabler has a change log, and history of sorts.
SATA-IO has said that 3.1 specification will incorporate TRIM into NCQ (command queueing) going forward now that it is final and adopted which is a much better solution.
The lack of free space or having to reuse storage cells (a month's worth is a good number) and the background garbage collection will take care of your drive.
I would not. OWC does not recommend its use, and they just use Sand Force controller and firmware also.
Also, a lot of PC users set motherboard RAID, TRIM is not supported in RAID configurations, and that seems to be fine.
My Corsair SSDs (5) are 6 months and going strong.

  • Trim support in storport miniport driver.

    Hello,
We have a storport miniport driver (open source at https://github.com/YanVugenfirer/kvm-guest-drivers-windows/tree/master/vioscsi) which we want to use with a SSD backend. I was expecting it to receive the SCSI UNMAP or WRITESAME scsi commands when I delete
a file in Windows 2012 but i see no such thing.
Looking at the documentation i see something about new trim support and the extended STORAGE_REQUEST_BLOCK structure but it's not clear how does the driver receive a trim. Can someone clarify? Where in this new structure do i get the trim? Is it in SRB_FUNCTION_IO_CONTROL?  Why
aren't the SCSI UNMAP/WRITESSAME commands used?

Take a read of the following  thread at Corsair. The first post describes how to use a command line  to enable trim and how to install AHCI after a windows 7 install.
