Trimming videos in iPhoto

When I try to trim videos in iPhoto, it tells me I do not have enough memory.  I bought the memory on the iCloud, but I am getting the same message.  How do I get iPhoto to recognize the memory?  I need to make movies with it and iMovie for work.  I have an iPhone 6.  I have deletedother apps' backup.  I have tried and failed to import videos to my home computer (a PC).By the way, still photos work fine.

What system and iPhoto versions are you using?  As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import a couple of videos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?

  • Trimming video in iPhoto '11

    Hello All.
So I have a long video clip and I want to extract various small sections from it.
    Apple iPhoto help says:
"Trimming a video clip doesn’t delete footage, it just divides the footage into two clips."
This would be idea, allowing me to create several short edited clips from the original, however I don't find this to be the case. On trimming I seem to still retain one file.
    Any tips??
    Thank you

re:iMovie is on every Mac that has iPhoto.
they might have iMovie but not everybody knows how to use it.
re: There's no need to export to iMovie, the two apps are integrated.
not so great integration  please refer to this article in this very forum

re: iPhoto does not use the Finder to create its windows.
    you are correct there
re: Look closely at the video when playing it in iPhoto. Then watch it on Quicktime Player. Notice any similrities?
Quicktime Player is an application completely separate from iPhoto.
The only thing the two applications have in common is that they both use the Quicktime engine and the same black transport controller to navigate through video frames.

  • When will it be possible to SAVE a TRIMMED video in iPhoto?

I have many videos, most of them pretty long, they are all trimmed by now, but not yet SAVED. Please enable !

What version of iPhoto area your running.  Also what system are you using?
With iPhoto 9.5.1 I'm able to trim a movie file in iPhoto and export it out via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  with Kind = Current and get the trimmed version.  So give the export a try as Current to see if that works for you.

When I double click a video and attempt to trim from the start of the clip the Trim function is greyed out.  What do I need to do to activate the trim function?

  • Videos in iPhoto and codec

I have imported a video from a Nikon camera into iphoto and it plays fine.  I made a duplicate of the video and edited / trimmed it in iphoto as per Apple doc.  I can view the edited video in iphoto but when I email it to someone else they cannot view it.  I emailed to myself and retrieved it on my iphone and it won't open there either.  No error messages just won't open.  I'm thinking it might have something to do with a codec but not sure how to fix it.  Any ideas?

Most likely, iPhoto lost track of where the videos are located.
if you moved the folder or videos to a new location on purpose, move them back. If you think they were moved accidentally, do a Spotlight search to locate them, then re-import or move them back.

You may need to prepare yourself for a "World of Hurt" from your wife...
Since the average 0.9 megapixel JPEG photo file of normal graphic complexity stored at a high quality compression setting is 125-135 KBs in size, I would have to assume any QT video files you created of more than a fraction of a second in duration were most likely saved as "reference" files to only be 50-150 KBs. Basically, a reference file is q QT (MOV) file that tells a video player how to play data that is still stored in its original source file container(s). For instance, you could trim and merge a number of files together and save the result as a "reference" file that takes up very little room on your hard drive. Or, you could post fles to a server and create a "reference" file that is small enough to be sent as an email attachment that plays the uploaded data on someone else's computer as long as they are connected to the Internet. Unfortunately, for these reference files to work, all of the resources referenced within the file must continue to exist in their proper locations in order to be found and played by the reference. Since you did not indicate what "but they won't play" really means here or how you actually "moved" your iPhoto library files to the external drive, I can only make some "educated guesses" at this point. (BTW: for future reference, iPhoto has a built-in function that allows you to copy your library to one or more back-up locations and then connect to them by default when iPhoto opens or switch source libraries at will within the opened application.)
If you created reference files and saved them to an external drive, you should be getting an error message telling you the app needs to know where the source files are located so the reference file can re-connect to the resource data. If the original files were also saved, then simple navigate to the source files in oder to tell the app where they are now located. If the source files were deleted as part of the reformatting process, then you are up the proverbial creek whithout a paddle with little or no hope of doing anything about this issue. (I.e., reformatting and then re-installing a system drive usually means you would have little hope of recovering the specific "lost" data you want as there is always a good chance that some of the data segments were overwritten during the process.)

  • Trimming video in iPhoto9

I recorded a clip with my iPhone4 and imported into iPhoto.
I click on Edit and it shows in QuickTime 10 and I trim the video. I rename when I Save As so as not to overwrite the original. The trimmed video clip shows in the iPhoto Library in Finder but not in iPhoto Events. If I try to import I get a message saying it's already in the Library.
How can I trim a video in iPhoto so that the trimmed version shows in iPhoto?

Thanks! You'd think since one can edit and save photos which still reference back to the original, it'd do the same for video.
Humm - it is iPhoto - not iVideo - iPhoto is oriented around simple point and shoot consumer cameras - iMovie is designed to handle movies
At least one would hope that after doing a Save As into the Library it would show up. Apparently it doesn't get added to the iPhoto database even though the edited version is present.
That is correct - if fact you must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the iPhoto library using other programs or the finder - this includes saving photos or videos to it - it is a SQL database and must have total control of its data
Time to make a feature request unless there's an easier workflow than going to the desktop and importing.
iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback
However since what you are requesting violates all of the iPhoto database rules I doubt if it will ever be done

  • Can't view video in iPhoto

Can't view video in iPhoto on my iMac but I can view it on my iPad! Source of video iPhone, sent to me via email. Appears in iPhoto on my iMac as a blank folder. Using OSX 10.9.5 Maverick. Any ideas? I have the same problem with a voice recording sent to me in the same way.

That's a whole new ball game.  Go the System/iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Photos check box.
In iPhoto go to its iCloud preference pane and uncheck all checkboxes.
Reboot, and go back to each preference pane and recheck those boxes.  That should jumpstart the Shared Photo Streams.

  • Deleted videos from iphoto but they are still showing up in the finder?

I deleted all of my videos from iPhoto and moved them to an external hard drive because I wanted to free up some space on my MacBook Air.  The files are no longer visible in the iPhoto application, but for some reason, when I look at the storage space on my computer, it is still showing that I have 8GB of movies on my computer.  If I search in the Finder, it is showing that a lot of these videos that I deleted from iPhoto are still in a "Masters" folder in iPhoto.  I am confused, though, because if I open iPhoto, the videos are not in there.  I want these video files to be deleted for good - can I just go in to the "Masters" folder in the Finder and delete them there?  I've read not to delete anything from iPhoto in the Finder, though. So, getting very frustrated because I'm not sure why these files aren't fully deleted off my computer. Any suggestions?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How do I move videos from iphoto to imovie

I've got a new macbook pro 17", Pegasus 12TB, and all manner of photos and videos. Ive recently upgraded from a G5. Hence, I took a variety of USB drives and found all sorts of photos and videos, FCE stuff, and basically did my best to consolidate them into either Aperture 3.x (kept up to date) and iMovie (latest updates). I keep all my software updated as soon as any update is released.
I am finally learning a bit about how to use a laptop with tons of information (pic/vids mostly). It wasn't as easy as I thought. Needless to say, the laptop is the cruncher of information and the pegasus is a screamer with speed. I am moving all my files (aperture libarary, iphoto library, and FCE stuff) to the pegasus seeing as the cute little internal HD doesn't hold much.
I've been able to find out how to move iMovie files from my internal drive and various other asundry of external FW800 drive into the pegasus 12TB to consolidate them in one place. All seems well after a few months of figuring this out, getting a quasi-workflow going.
Now I'm stuck a bit. I have Aperture and iPhoto showing up in my event library as having vidoes. I used to use iPhoto to manage videos that were simple point and shoot camera style vids. I now want to take the many files and do the same as I've done with all other video: move the video files under iMovie control on the Pegasus.
Problem: I can't seem to make this work except in one fashion: drag each and every individual clip over to an event in iMovie under Pegasus drive. Talk about time consuming!  Not only that, it doesn't move it, it copies it. Then I have to go back and delete it in iphoto.
I've tried making a smart folder in iPhoto to find videos and then hopefully export them to the desktop. Then I could import into iMovie on the pegasus. No go. Can't find the videos. They are somehow scattered about inside of iPhoto in such a manner that I can't seem to find them unless I open each project and manuall search them out. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here, has to be an easier way.
I tried highlighting all the videos on iphoto that show up in the imovie events library and just doing a mass drag/drop. Not go. Just doesn't do it. Ignores me.
    I'm out of ideas.
How does one get video scattered around inside of iPhoto (and to a lesser extent, aperture) so that I can consolidate them under iMovies control on the pegasus?
    Thanks
    Robert

iMovie can access those movies that are inside iPhoto. Just look in the Event pane of iMovie and click on the iPhoto icon:
All of the movies in iPhoto will be displayed at the right where you can access them for whatever project you'd like.
Otherwilse you'd have to export all of them out of iPhoto using the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option and use the Format = Original option.  Them move them into a folder in the Movies fodler and let iMovie find them there. Then you'd have to do that each time you import a movie into iPhoto or manually upload the photos and movies ot a folder on your Desktop and then import the photos only into iPhoto and move the movie files into the Movie folder.

  • Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto

Imovie 09 How do I stop Imovie from auto importing video from iphoto.
Hi I've done a lot of searches on how to do this but no answers found.
Imovie is beginning to become really slow because of the large number of video's. It takes 3 minutes to startup. Editing is sometimes slow lot's of spinning beach balls e.t.c.
I would like to only import the video I want to edit and hopefully get a quicker Imovie in the process.
My Iphoto library is about 95 Gbyte in size.
My mac has 4 gb ram and I use the internal disk.
Any other ways to work with Imovie/Iphoto are also welcome.
    regards

I won't get iMovie 9 till Tuesday, but based on what you said I may need to take some precautions. One reason I didn't like iMovie 8 is because it automatically imported everything in iPhoto library. What I'm going to do is create a new iPhoto library before importing the photos/videos from the camera. Or if you already have it in your main iPhoto library copy only the photos you'll use in your iMovie 9 project to the new library. Then start iPhoto while pressing the option key which will allow you to select the new iPhoto library you have created. Then I suppose that when you start iMovie 9 it will automatically import only the photos/videos from the new library.

  • I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library?

I imported some 24P HD videos from my DSLR to Aperture but these videos do not show up in iMovie '09 for editing purposes. Although my previous 24P HD Videos from iPhoto '09 show up. Why can't I access these videos stored in Aperture library? I assumed that like  the videos in iPhoto, I would be able to access the videos in Aperture through iMovie. Come on Apple! I am starting to get frustrated with your products here. And this is saying a lot when I have been using and loving apple products for the last 4 years.

Hi. My camera is a Canon 600D. And yes my videos are stored in the Aperture library and they are not referenced. Even then I tried to select all the videos in Aperture and clicked 'consolidate masters' and there was a messge that said all 'none of the files are referenced',... so they didn't need consolidating.
I also tried preferences> export> external video editor > choose > iMovie. And then right click on the video to edit with imovie. Even then the video didn't show up in iMovie. It seems like the only option for me is to import the videos directly to iMovie which means there will be two versions of the same file stored in my computer eating up space.
    APPLE. What are you doing?

  • Is there any way to recover deleted video from iPhoto?

I lost all my iPhone videos because iPhoto didn't export them properly. A whole month of video memories of my newborn's life are gone. Why would a program be designed to export photos and not videos if it allowed videos to be imported from a device?? I am beyond devastated. Files should ONLY be allowed to be dragged and dropped instead of having an "export" option. How in the world was I supposed to know my video files would be exported as blank files?? I know I should have checked the backups before deleting the originals from iPhoto, but I figured when a file was exported, it was copied as is to the external HDD. My question is this: is there ANY possible way to recover old deleted videos??

What version of iPhoto and system are you using?

When you import a video iPhoto creates a jpeg preview version of the first frame.  When you export it out of iPhoto you only get the actual video file if you select Kind = Original.  Either of the other two options give you the prieview image file.
If you have access to the library they may still be in there. Create a smart album with the criteria:  Keyword = movie or File Name contains .mov.  That should display all movie files in the library.  Try the export Kind = Original and see if you can retrieve them.
