Trip to Canada

Hi Guys i'm taking a trip to canada in a few weeks. Called an made sure my service was active for international. They had me go to network and turn off Data Roaming so i wouldnt get charged. Is it true that texting is free aslong as you have unlimited texting. I dont want any suprises lol.

Where did you travel to? I'm not purchasing a data plan. So before i am going over the boarder. Disabling Mobile Data  and roaming to be extra sure i dont get charged data / mms. Plan on using texting for updates to the family. Calling only if i need to. Wifi and skype to call when i'm at the hotel.
I also have a company nextel / 8350i that will have data available in canada at no extra cost. But everyone knows how slow IDEN lol.
I'll be in montreal

You might just have to contact Apple and ask them to remove it (losing it). Usually people clear a balance by buying one song and having the exact remainder charged  to their credit card, but if you don't have a US credit card you cannot do that.

  • Trip to Canada, geotagging on photos missing

On a recent trip to Candada, geotagging was included in photos taken in Victoria, but not on the ferries in the area or in Vancouver.  Has anyone had this problem?  I would love access the geo-data for those photos, but I suspect that data was never collected.  Are there rules in Canada about Geotagging photos or some other technical reason why this did not work?  One item of note, Victoria is a bit south of the 49th parallel and Vancouver is north of it.

Did you have the phone in airplane mode any of that time? Perhaps to ensure tht you didn't incur roaming charges? If so, airplane mode turns off the GPS as well as cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth.
To the best of my knowledge, Canada couldn't care less if you geotag your photos. The ones I took last week are all properly tagged and I was nowhere near the U.S. border.
    Best of luck.

  • Calling US from Canada...Who knows the answer ?? Surely someone knows ?

    One time trip to Canada..
We bought a gophone to take a trip to canada later this year. Probably use the phone a dozen times or so while we are there, to make 5 min or so calls to the states..or get same from the states..so that's about 60 min or so...We are under the impression that this will cost us about about $23.50 at a .39 per min roaming/international cost...so can we simply buy $25.00 worth air time now, without a "package" and use it ? The AT&T folks seem to think it woud be good to get the $55.00 Canad/Mexico package that lasts one month...seems, for the one time use just getting $25.00 worth of minutes would be just as good and simpler..
Also, seems we need to put a + sign in front of a "1" prior to putting in an area code to dial to the states..is it the same to call canada? And I guess Canada has their own country code.
I have tried to make contact with AT&T several times and get conflicting answers to these questions...thanks for any help..

I will tell you what to do .
Go to get a Gophone with a  $2 daily plan.If you probably use the phone a dozen times or so while you are in Canada.
    http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/plans/voice/sku4940399.html
And add $100 credit in it.It will last you for 365 days ,of couse you can add $50,but it last you only 90 days.
If you're roaming in Canada with Rogers Wireless,it won't cost you any daily fee.
    http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/international/gophone.html?tab=2
Our country code is the same as USA.
so,if you need to calling Canada in USA or calling USA in Canada.
you MAY need to put a + sign in front of a "1" prior to putting in an area code to dial to the states.
But lots of time when I am roaming with Rogers Wireless on AT&T.And making a voice call,
I just dial 1 XXX XXX XXXX and it works too.

  • How do I get my MIFI 4510L to work when roaming in Canada?

I was unable to use my MIFI 4510L on my last trip to Canada. What do I need to do to enable operation while roaming in Alberta?

Hello TJ35,  Let's get you connected while on the go no matter where you are!  We will have to review the account settings to determine the possibility of international roaming.  Please feel free to follow me back and send a Direct Message with your account information so that we can review all of your options while traveling.  I look forward to hearing from you!

  • IPhone can no longer connect to AT&T network, just says No Service1

Ever since I returned from a trip to Canada my iPhone has been unable to connect to the AT&T network. It worked fine before I crossed re boarder into Canada last week and while in Canada it was able to connect to the Rogers network.
Since I crossed back into the United States, sometimes it will connect to the AT&T network for a few seconds (never long enough to make a call) then show no service.
To try and fix the problem I have
    -shut off the iPhone
    -reset the iPhone
-ejected and reinserted the SIM card
-verified my AT&T bill was paid
    -reset network settings
    None of that worked.
If I turn Airplane mode on and then off, it says Searching... for a while before going back to No Network.
Also, the unit is able to connect to WiFi networks with no problem.
Any suggestions for how I can get my iPhone to connect again to the AT&T network?
    Thanks!

Thank for the advice. The phone is not a 3G (i probably should have mentioned that).
I brought it into the Apple Store. The genius couldn't figure out the problem, so he gave me a new one.

  • Palm Pre for Sprint Data Back Up Problem

I am having issues with data back up with my Palm Pre for Sprint - Palm webOS 1.4.1.1
I have the setting set so "On" so the data is set to back up automatically to my Palm Profile every day, however it has not backed up automatically since June 5th.  I just noticed this today (June 17th), and I have tried today to manually back up the data by choosing "Back Up Data Now" button, but the screen just gets hung up indefinitely with a note saying "Preparing" without ever backing the data up.
On a related note, between June 6th & June 10th I took a trip to Canada where my phone was International Roaming - so I can understand why it might not back under those circumstances - but I returned to the US on June 10th and it has not backed up automatically since and it does not appear that it is able to back up manually either.
Has anyone had a similar issue or know what I might do to remedy this?

  • Possibility of Corrupt Files

I'm trying to sync my iPod, and recently a lot of my files got corrupted. Why? I have no idea. But I lost all my videos in one folder, a bunch of photos from a recent trip to Canada, and a few hundred songs.
I don't know why the corruption happened, but as I found out while I'm trying to synch my iPod, I get random freezes, then errors as it can't sync a certain file. So I'm trying to delete the corrupt files. ...only I'm having a really hard time because it doesn't tell me which actual files are corrupt, I just know there are some out there.
Are there any ways to finding them and deleting them/fixing them? I've trashed a fair few files (didn't need them anyway) but it would be so great just to be able to find out which ones were causing this trouble so I could get rid of them somehow, it's... really depressing. This laptop has been in the shop countless times and I really don't want to have to go through that again.
For the record, I've run disk repair, restarted, and done some small things like that, to no effect.
    Thanks very much~!

Curses. It's been this long and I still can't think of a witty way to bump my thread. I would mention the alien outside my bathroom window, but my bathroom doesn't have a window. I suppose that's a good thing. Though ventilation would be nice at times.
Anyway, still the same things going on, and Google is apparently not my friend because I can't find anything on this yet, so I'm sort of stuck.

  • Any way to lift/stamp position or other metadata?

I have a heap of shots from a recent trip to Canada/Alaska, most of which are stamped with Lat/Long data from a GPS. But using two cameras and one GPS means some of my images are missing the data.
Is there any way to lift the position metadata from one image and stamp it onto the others? The metadata lift tool seems to ignore it, unless there is a workaround someone can point to.
BTW... A big thanks here to the Aperture team for the new "Show on Map..." command. Takes me back to the spot with a click of the mouse. For anyone who's ever gone back to your shots a few years later and wondered where exactly you were, geotagging together with Aperture 2's Google Maps integration is a godsend.

I have recently scanned about 750 slides from the last 25 years, puuuh.
Cause I took notes, where most of my photos were taken, I wanted to add GPS-ifo to be able to lookup im map etc.
I am using PhotoInfoEditor (http://www.mmisoftware.co.uk/), free and comes with a map interface, batch support etc.
IT's really poor that Aperture (using 2.x) is not supporting geotagging when having photos in a project. Any plug-in developers around? Should be easy and linakble to the show-in-map feature.
still hoping cause more slides to go

  • Is Droid Mini a global ready phone?

I'm planning a trip to Canada. I'm receiving conflicting information from Verizon on whether my Droid Mini is global ready or not. The International Trip Planner tells me You can use the DROID Mini 4G LTE Black to voice, text and data in all selected countries. Wireless Coverage in Canada and Mexico will be improved using a Global-Ready device. If you're upgrading, we recommend 4G LTE Global-Ready device. When I log in to My Verizon and navigate to My Global Device & Services, I am not able to select any global service for my Droid Mini, and I see the message This phone is designed to run on the network technology available in the US and more than 25 other countries (primarily in North America, the Carribean and some Asian countries). It's not designed to roam in the majority of international countries. The paperwork and manuals that I received with my Droid Mini indicate that the Droid Mini is a global ready phone that can be used in more than 200 countries.
So, is the Droid Mini a global ready phone, and will I be able to roam on GSM networks in Canada with 3G data service, rather than 2G?

        mrmike123,
A trip to Canada sounds very fun! No worries with your phone - Canada uses the same technology we use here in the USA, which is called CDMA, and your phone absolutely supports it. In addition to that, many other countries support a technology called GSM, and your phone is able to connect to that as well. If you refer to the specs listed for your phone you will see both CDMA and GSM band frequencies listed under the Network section. Canada has started utilizing some GSM technology, and that may be where the confusion is coming in to play, but either way your phone will be able to be used while traveling.
Your line may need to have a free feature called International Dialing added to it before your trip so you can use your phone outside of the country. Please give us a call at 1-800-922-0204 and we'll make sure you've got it!

  • Are there additional international roaming charges?

Are there additional charges when using Verizon services outside of the country while on a More of Everything Plan, specifically in Canada?

I don't want you having any unexpected charges during a trip, mikewarbington. More Everything plans cover you in the United States, so a trip to Canada will result in some additional charges. We do offer a More Everything plus Canada and Mexico that offers additional benefits like 1000 minutes to use while you're in those 2 countries. Please visit www.vzw.com/tripplanner to see your options available for any trip outside of the United States.

  • Cannot activate factory unlocked iPhone 4S: SIM not valid

    Hello Apple,
I have a problem with my Iphone: I purchased a factory unlocked iPhone 4S in a The Source Store in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. I´m from Brazil but now I am living in Israel and the fact that the phone is factory unlocked was necessary for me to use it in both countries ( Brazil and Israel). After my trip to Canada, I arrived to Brazil and inserted my micro-sim into the new iPhone. It showed the "Activate iPhone" screen BUT it won’t activate. It says "SIM not valid" and "Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier´s store to receive a replacement SIM card”.
Now I am living in Israel and the same situation continues: I inserted one Israelian micro-sim into the Iphone and it showed the "Activate iPhone" screen BUT it won’t activate. It says "SIM not valid" and "Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier may be used to activate iPhone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier´s store to receive a replacement SIM card”.
In Israel we don’t have Apple Stores and i can´t have access to one, so now i have an iPhone 4S i cant not eve use as an iPod, leaving it totally useless.
I will greatly appreciate any help!!
Apple Support Team: If you need the IMEI or Serial Number please ask me.
    Thanks in advanced,
    Bernard

The Source in Canada was formally know as Radio Shack and they do sell iPhones.. Only for Bell and Virgin Canada.
    http://www.thesource.ca/estore/category.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&categ ory=iphones&sort=1&pagenum=1
What does it say on your receipt?
As Bell and Virgin do not unlock iPhones you will need to sell that phone to someone in Canada and get an unlocked phone directly from Apple.

  • EBay Locked Verizon iPhone 4S - GSM locked SIM - Options?

I am looking to purchase an iPhone 4S on eBay, where the iPhone is a Verizon CDMA "locked" phone (which is OK as I plan to try it out on Tracfones newer BYOP program (Bring Your Own Phone). I have, or always do check, the iPhones "IMEI / MEID" number with Tracfone/Verizon to see that it is accepted and "clean".
One iPhone 4S I'm now interested in, the owner says the iPhone 4S is "locked" as far as the GSM goes (SIM card use, and the iPhone does not come with the SIM card). Therefore, I would be able to sign-up with Tracfone for the "CDMA" use (U.S. use), with no problems (as Tracfone uses the Verizon network) ….. However, on trips to Canada, Mexico, or overseas would I be unable to use the iPhone 4S, because the SIM "GSM" is still "locked"?
What is the best solution to possibly "unlocking" the SIM card "GSM" on the iPhone 4S?  Is this something I would be able to do once the phone is in my possession, or not possible? ... as I am beginning to research is probably the case.
I know the Federal Government has issued new rules on the "locking" and "unlocking" of phones, but without being the original owner, or Verizon account holder on the eBay phone, I am concerned that if I where to purchase such a "locked" GSM SIM card phone …. that I will be stuck with one that will only have use in the U.S., and not when I'm possibly traveling outside the U.S.
Any assistance or experience with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

Buy an iPhone that's already carrier unlocked.
Don't waste your time doing otherwise.
Because only the original carrier can officially unlock the iPhone AND if you qualify.

  • Wifi email not working when travelling internationally?

On a recent trip to Canada (Dec 2014 - after update to 8.1.2), my email client did not work on either my iPhone or iPad when on WiFi. These were the same WiFi connections (family visits) that had previously worked in the summer but now email was not able to be received or sent. Internet and web-base email was fine but the IOS client did not send or receive. Is this a result of the 8.1.2 update? Not sure what other explanation is likely - there were multiple ISPs and WiFi networks involved. I tried multiple re-boots, removing and re-adding the accounts etc. but nothing worked until I drive back across the border into US cell coverage. After that, it is difficult to know whether email is being processed on WiFi or cellular when both are available - perhaps it is never using WiFi...

Having the same issue - also with a Bell phone (my boss'). He gets angry because when he arrives home or at the office he's getting a bunch of email. Now his bbm and his text are also only coming in on wifi. He has turned his wifi off in disgust.
I hope you find an answer - but I see your post is month old with nothing.

  • Canon Vixia HF G30 to film Aurora Borealis?

Hello! I am planning a trip to Canada to see the Northern Lights and have the opportunity to borrow an HF G30. My first question is, would this device work, or should I try to acquire a DSLR of some sort; and second, if it WILL work, are there any suggestions as to the settings? I don't have much experience with photography, but I'm pretty tech-savvy, and we will also be spending a couple nights there, so I do have some trial-and-error time. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Below are a few video editing programs you might want to consider (in no particular order):Corel VideoStudio Pro X8 (there is also an Ultimate version)CyberLink Power DirectorSony Movie StudioAdobe Premiere ElementsThose are just a few of the ones out there.  These would be considered more entry level or consumer oriented video editing programs.  These should be fairly easy to learn and use. I had my first experience with the Pixela software when I purchased the G20 and toi be honest I never gave it a chance as I am using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 and have used Corel VideoStudio Pro X8.  Both of those handled the AVCHD files without any issues.
