Trojan found in Lion and on iPhone 4 backup

I recently installed MacKeeper on my Mac and Pc's
I have been having major issues with Lion - see my discussion  there -
But tonight it found a Trojan in my Users/dr/App Support/MobileSync/Backup file  - This was as I was restoring my iphone 4 from the back up because it was continually slowing & crashing like my Lion is.  So the back up was lost.  I had a backup omn iCloud but because the last vackup was to my Mac it would not restore from iCloud.
The description is TR/Spy.29184.169
Is this real? or is my MacKeeper  deluded? Is it on my iPhone or in my Mac (rather was it?)
dr

MacKeeper is itself a trojan.
MacKeeper is an exception to the rule that system modifications should be uninstalled according to the developer's instructions. Although not generally recognized as such, MacKeeper is in fact a trojan, because the developer distributes an uninstaller that purports to delete it, but leaves behind something that causes popup ads to appear in the user’s web browser. Try following the instructions here:

I can't personally vouch for the accuracy of those instructions, but others seem to have had success with them.

  • E4200, Lion and Time Machine backup

    Hi there!
Sorry if I'm double posting this, but I didn't find any posts of this thread.
Since lion is there for a while, it is still not possible to make a time machine backup on an USB hdd that's connected to the router.
Is there a fix or workaround for this? Or is Cisco coming with an firmware update?
    Thanks in advance!

I know, late to the party... But was wondering if anyone had any success in connecting an HFS+ formatted external HDD to the E-4200, and being able run Time Machine backups against it?
The disk does not have to be HFS+ formatted. The disk must be formatted in whatever format the NAS, i.e. the E4200 can handle.
Time Machine saves backup in a sparsebundle on network drives. A sparsebundle can be written on any formatted drive. Doesn't have to be HFS+. I do time machine backups on a NAS with ext3 formatted drives...
As mentioned before: the problem is with AFP the protocol to access the network drive. AFP is required to access the network drive and if that doesn't work you can't do the backup. You'll have to wait until Linksys fixes this...

  • Clean install of Lion and Time Machine backups

    Hi All,
I have a new MBP on it's way to be delivered to my house today, and my question is about Time Machine backups. I'd like to restore from my old MBP's Time Machine data, but I'm a little concerend because I've had some issues with Lion. Specifically, very slow at random times, spinning beach balls, etc. I didn't do a clean install of Lion, just the download/upgrade method, and from what I've read, that's caused some problems for people.
Will a restore from a Time Machine backup replace all of the "fresh" system files, etc. on the new MBP, or only move specific files, or files not present in the system (i.e. app preferences)? I'd rather not have to manually copy and install everything if I can avoid it, but I don't want to transfer any old problems to the new MBP. Thanx.

OK, you're right. I wish Apple would get rid of the Applications Folder in the User Folder.

I still believe you are relatively safe in not porting over trouble from your previous System.

  • Clean install of Lion and Time Machine Backup: Does it make sense?

    Hello everybody,
I have updated from Snow Leopard to Lion over the App Store and now my iMac (the 27" one from last year) seems to suffer from several slowdowns. Quite unusual for a new Mac. So I decided to try a clean install. Of course I would like to keep my data, my programs and stuff. I am doing daily backups with my Time Machine, so this should not be a problem.
But thats my question: Does it make sense to put back all data from the Time Machine from a backup on a clean install? Doesn`t it possibly put back all the old problems with all the slowdowns I experience right now?
The following I intend to do:
    - backup all data with Time Machine
    - create a Lion install disc
    - boot from the disc, delete the HDD
    - install Lion from the disc
    - boot the new OS and put back the Time Machine backup
I hope someone can verify that this would work. Since those slowdowns became really annoying I would give it a try.
    greetings
    Michael

So I decided to try a clean install.
I'd recommend against starting with the "nuclear" option.
First, is there a "pattern"?   Does the problem seem to coincide with any particular app(s)?
How full is your internal HD?  If it's over about 85%, that can contribute to slowness.
Check for directory damage, by Verifying your internal HD, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.
Check for unusual log messages that can indicate a problem.  See the tan box in OSX Log Files to locate your system.log, then the blue box there to decipher it, especially the Other Problems section.
If you suspect a problem with your installation of OSX, download and install the "combo" update, per Installing the"combo" update and/or Reinstalling OSX.
If that doesn't help, try installing a fresh version of OSX (that won't disturb anything else), per the same article.
The following I intend to do:
    - backup all data with Time Machine
    - create a Lion install disc
    - boot from the disc, delete the HDD
    - install Lion from the disc
    - boot the new OS and put back the Time Machine backup
If you want to restore everything from your Time Machine backup, all you have to do is start up from your Recovery HD and do the restore.  That will erase the HD and copy everything, including OSX, from the backups.  Thus, it's unlikely to help, unless you had unrepaired directory problems.
Or, after you install Lion, use Setup Assistant to transfer everything except OSX from your backups. See Using Setup Assistant on Lion.  Functionally, that's pretty close to just installing a fresh copy of Lion as above.

  • Lion and the iphone

We just upgraded to Lion.  Tried the icloud, stopped.  Now when I take pictures with my iphone I can't email them, mms them and they don't appear in my photos.  What can I do?

Just solved. Saw somewhere else on line that the iphone could be 'reset' by holding down the power and home buttons simultaneously. Did that and wa-la - all is good with the world again!

  • Iphone backup of contacts and pictures

Please forgive my ignorance. I backed up my iphone 3G to my laptop.  It says it's done but where did it backup to? Is it readable? I am mostly concerned about my contacts and pictures and I want to verify the backup for that warm fuzzy feeling.  Please advise. Thx.

As an FYI, I found the answer under ipad (not iphone).  I have downloaded and used iphones backup extractor from www.iphonebackupextractor.com and it works great. I can see everything I have backed up and can edit (ie, remove) files as I see fit.

  • Transfer iPhone backup to new macbook pro from old macbook pro

I bought a new macbook pro last week, but, I need to transfer my iTunes library (music, apps, podcast, photos, other) from my old macbook pro to my new macbook pro and the iPhone backup, off course, please, I have read entire hours on google but I can´t found anything, I don´t know what I can do

As roaming gnome noted, to copy iTunes , simply copy the entire iTunes folder.
Just backup your iPhone to the new computer (after you copy the iTunes folder).

  • Will mountain lion and iOS 6 force me to use ICloud?

Reading the previews of mountain lion and ios 6, I get the impression that I'm going to be forced to use ICloud.  Is this true?  I don't want to be in the Cloud. And I don't want apps like Twitter mining information from or sharing information with, my Contacts.  Should I upgrade?  What happens if I don't?  I have a macbook running lion and an IPhone 4 running Ios 5.  Thanks.

I can just access Twitter through Safari to avoid that?  (Before you tell me that Twitter isn't that private, I'm on there with a pseudoname).
    Yes.
The integration of Twitter with Contacts is mostly about storing your contact Twitter and Facebook accounts much as you would store their phone numbers of email addresses.

  • Osx Lion and WHS 2011

If using lion server, can you utilize whs2011 for a storage platform, ie like a Drobo?  In the wegotserved.com guide, he used a Drobo to coincide with his mac server but I want to be able to use my WHS, even if that means i need to reformart the whole system and start over.  I guess i want to know if they are compatible, with the aspect of directing the storage to the WHS hard drives.  I am currently using whs2011 as my centralized storage and for backups

another question would be, what would be the best way to create a backup using multiple hard drives for a mac server without having to go out and buy a drobo or any other type of system.  My goal is to use osx lion server and then have all of my media stored but need to access it through lion and have my backups going to it as well from lion server.

  • How can I stop iTunes from dropping my iPhone 5 when connected with USB cable?  It sees it and start a backup and then it drops and tells me cannot find phone.

My HP notebook 64 bit Windows 8 after the last iTunes update will detect my iPhone 5, sync and when finished with thy sync I start a backup to my computer.  It runs fine for a bit and then gives me message I have changed settings on my iPhone 5 and asked me if I want to update.  I OK the question and runs a bit more and then drops the connection telling me cant find my iPhone 5.  I can restart iTunes and start over and does the same thing.
ITunes update 11.1.1.62 had difficulties with the updates on 64 bit Windows 7 and 8.1 causing an error on boot other trouble.  I found solution on research that insturcted to Remove iTunes, Bonjour, Apple Support and Apple Update and reload iTunes old version.  I simply reloaded the new version becasue did not have the old version of iTunes.  I have been working fine with the old version.  I know problem is a simple setting somewhere but it is NOT SIMPLE to me since I dont know where the find the simple setting.
Will someone tell what to do.  I appreciate all you smart guys.

My apologies...the version is 11.1.4.62 not as stated aboive in my problem description.  I'm trying again and it just finished syncing fine and my iPhone 5 is still connected to iTuns physcially with USB lightening cable and is displaying the iPhone icon top right.  I clicked on it and iTunes is now "hung' or  locked up.  Shows to be an active running application but can't get back to it so willl have to kill with task manager.  There is some kind of problem going on with the latest version of iTunes and Wndows 7 and 8.1 or something.  My iPhone 5 now has a new feature that it is now asking me if I "Trust" this computer.  iTunes just came "unhung" after several minutes while I was typing this. Now I am going to start the backup to this computer HP Winsows 8.1 and iTune 11.1.4.62 and see what happens.  Says it is Backing up Jerrys iPhone but the Barber Pole progress bar is not turning an iTunes is hung again and I cant get back to it from this page I am typing on.  Maybe it will eventually release as it did a moment ago.

  • In Lion 10.7.4, where are the iPhone backups?

Before Lion 10.7.4, iPhone backups were usefully to be located in User/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup.
This was handy because it meant that by copying the files you could use more than one computer to access the iPhone(s).
In 10.7.4, the Backup dossier is still there (when you actually manage to access the now hidden User/Library, for which purpose, by the way, the following thread is a great help: https://discussions.apple.com/message/18386812#18386812), but it is now empty.
iTunes still recognises synchronized iPhones, so the file is somewhere around…
Does anyone happen to know where it has been put?
(I did think of using Time Machine to restore the backups to this pre 10.7.4 location, but decided not to in case that created a glitch.)
    Thanks for any help

Your computer is probably set to NOT show hidden files, I know on my PC which has Vista, I need to go into Tools menu/folder options/click on the view tab, you need to look down the list that will have appeared in the little window for SHOW HIDDEN FILES & NAMES, see the picture in the below link. You need to change this to show hidden files etc and you then should be able to see this folder.

Hi, I upgraded my iOS 10.6 (Leopard) to iOS X 10.7 (Lion) recently and now I no longer can find my iPhone backup file that used to be in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup.  The Library folder seems to have just disappeared.
Does anyone know where iOS X Lion keeps or moved the backup files to?

    - can observe unsteady and unpredictable behavior of the polygonal lasso tool
in 10.7, 10.8 and 10.9 meaning it wont react on my click and "hang"

more frequently with my wacom intuos 4 and 5 over usb.
    - even on my latest imac 2013, newly installed only photoshop cs5 and cs6, i can reproduce much more strange behavior fo this tool ever: the first point/click won't register at all, it feels like the polygonal lasso tool hangs and waits and nothing happens. i click on another tool, click back on poly.lasso and try again. after the second attempt, after seconds of waiting, the third click always fills the selection as completed, although i am not finished with my selection at all
    any idea why?
love working with polygonal lasso, although it reacts very unstable and unpredictable since years and versions !!
