Trouble accessing internet form my iMac

Hi, having trouble with accessing internet form my iMac. Both Wi-Fi and Ethernet ports show up and running properly, the ISP checked the gear and it's all up, however, I can't get out on the internet.
I ran network diagnostics sveeral times, it allways gets to the point ISP is still green and then fails at internet access...
Sporadically it allows a page or 2 and then it goes back into "freeze" ...
Tips, anyone ?
Many thanks

Having trouble accessing internet with new wireless WRT54G. Used easylink to read existing router BEFSR41 which works great to westell modem provided by Verizon. When connect new router Easylink configures WRT54G but when trying to connect to internet...fails. All lites indicate good. Not using wireless device yet, just the wired ethernet. Router set up as DHCP.
I keep going back to old router and works great every time. Help!

Thanks for response, however I tried setting unit to 192.168.2.1 (leaving DHCP) to no avail. I put my old unit (BEFSR41) back in and I'm back up. I need to sit back and decide which way to go on this. Perhaps it's defective and I should return it.

  • Internet service through hughes net trouble accessing internet since upgraded McAfee software

08.04.2015 To whom it may concern: I originally had Hughes install their service in April 2014 shorty after I purchased my new HP computer with operating system windows #7 with service pack #1 and McAfee Anti-virus & firewalls software unlimited protection already installed on my computer. I had no trouble in the year 2014, but in late part of June 2015 after updating McAfee software I started to have problems connecting to the internet. I went so far to have McAfee re-install their software & check the IP addresses on the firewalls for internet connections - - COULD THIS BE THE  PROBLEM? I have checked Hughes system status and I have noticed a continue problem on the status reading of TuboPage reading status has being showed as "IDLE" instead of "UP". Per Hughes the TuboPage feature provides acceleration for web browsing. Acceleration is achieved - - per Hughes - - by the terminal establishing connections to one or more TuboPage servers. Now, may I also mention when I go to the TOOLS nab then to INTERNET OPTION then to CONNECTION nab then to SETUP - - it shows I'm connected to the internet, but when I press the button "BROWSE THE INTERNET NOW" - - nothing happens - - WHY IS THIS?  Thornton1960

I am having that same problem. Used to connect up with my home's wireles network (Linksys wireless cable router, Toshiba cable modem). The lapotops are working wiressles, but the Touch doesn't seem to be able to connect either to my wireless network or to a neighbor''s unsecured network that I used to be able to log onto.
I did travel and used the Touch to connect to other wireless networks. Since returning, nothing. I have reset all settings, reset network settings, restored to factory settings... nothing seems to help, still hangs up on the "Choose a network". I was hoping that restoring to the factory settings would work... it even prompted me for the WEP key, but still just hung there.
Thoughts? Do I need to go to the Apple STore?

  • Trouble accessing internet with Playstation portable

I have been getting a "key information exchange timed out" error when testing the connection. I suspect the problem is either firmware related or possibly that the PSP is not 802.11g compatible and needs 802.11b. The router literature says it supports both g and b, but do I need to switch it to b to test this out? Additionally, I have never updated any firmware before. I began downloading a .bin file from this website for a firmware update but canceled it for the time being since I don't know what to do with it. Can anyone give me some direction? Thanks

Try to change wireless network mode to B only if that is the case. To do this Connect computer directly to router on port 1
Login to router by typing http://192.168.1.1 in browser's address bar, use password as admin and no user name
Goto wireless tab, and change wireless network mode to B only, and save settings.
    Reboot the router.
    To update firmware:
    Download it from www.linksys.com/download
    Login to router's setup
Goto administartion tab, under that goto firmware upgrade
Browse for firmware file and click on update
    Reboot router after that

  • Trouble accessing internet

This is probably a basic question but I purchased the airport extreme base station. Made the basic connections installed the software and nothing. Is this an ISP problem or an apple configuration problem? Help, what am I doing wrong?

    hi there-
in system preferences > network > network port
configurations is airport enabled and at the top of
the list? have you disabled the other ports? when
you click on the aiport menu in the menu bar does it
say airport is on, and can you see your network
there, and are you able to join your network? does
airport show a strong signal? one thing you can try
doing is writing down your network settings and then
    trashing the /library/preferences/systemconfiguration
folder. then restart the computer and reconfigure
the network in a new location. let me know how it's
    going.
Thanks for your response. Yes the Airport is enabled..Internal modem is not set up. Weak signal. I will try the reconfiguration and get back to you. Again, thanks

How do I set up my laptop/ipod to gain access to Internet when out??
    Thanks for you time

  • Problem accessing internet using time capsule after update to mountain lion

After updating my macbook air to moutain lion i am having some trouble accessing internet.
Evertytime i re-start my mac or airport utility i am able to access internet properly. After sometime when i access some particular sites, internet access goes down and i need to restart time capsule to access internet again.
Even though in airport utility internet is marked as disconnected, time capsule's indicator is still glowing green colour.
I tried deleting the com.apple.timemachine.plist file from /Library/Preferences/, but still no luck.
Is anybody else also facing the same problem? How can i resolve this problem?

Is the time capsule the only router in the network?
Try setting the lease time in the TC to very short value.. 20min or even less, 10min. It will not add signficant network traffic but might keep the Air updated to the TC.
I would also use SMB compatible name for the TC as well as wireless.. ie short, no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.
Set a different name for 5ghz so it cannot swap around.
And lock the wireless channels. Try each channel in turn, to see if any are better.

  • Problem accessing internet after installing Lion

    Hello,
I just installed Lion to my Mac (Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3), and somehow I now seem to have trouble accessing internet. I use Wi-fi, and the actual connection with our internetprovider works just fine (we have other computers in the house, and have not experienced any trouble with them). When I want to use internet I have to go to the network panel, click on "help me", and run a diagnostics. After that, I have no problem assessing internet.
I am SO sorry I am not able to explain my problem any better in english, but I do hope someone can help me sort this out, as it is most annoying.
    Hopsi Daisy

Sorry, my bad for not explaining good enough!
When I start the diagnostics, the networkstatus on my left indicates with green dots that everything up until networkprovider is OK (Wi-Fi settings and network settings are all green)
Networkprovider is marked with a yellow dot, and internet and servant (? - not sure of the english word here!) are both red, indicating they do not work.
I then run the diagnostics, no problems encountered, and I am up and running. It does not say what the problem is, nor do I get any indications that something is wrong when trying to access internet in the first place (other than that it will not let me in to the pages I am trying to visit)
This happens everytime I for some reason restart the computer, or if I have been offline for a while (e.g. throughout the night). No problems once I am online.
Never had any such problems until I installed Lion.

  • I am using an iMac with OS 10.5.8 and either Safari or Firefox. What should I do if I need to access internet explorer?

I am using an iMac with OS 10.5.8 . What should I do if I need to access internet explorer? I use either  Safari or Firefox.
    Thank you
    Earl

There hasn't been an IE that would work on a Mac since 2002. The only way to use IE today is to run Windows on your Mac:
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Having trouble with internet connections using my Apple G5. Updates turn out to be incompatible with my system. What should I do short of trashing the wonderful computer and spending cash I don't have on a new iMac?

Having trouble with internet connections using my Apple G5 OSX 10.4.11. Attempts to upgrade FireFox or Safari results in being incompatible with with this system. Tried to locate earlier versions to replace upgraded incompatible software only to find that problems have worsened with crashing results. What should I do short of trashing this wonderful G5 and purchasing a new iMac which I really can't afford?
    Chuck's Dilema

    Hi Chuck,
TenFourFox is the most up to date browser for our PPCs, they even have G4 & G5 optimized versions...
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
I'd avoid vesrion 24 though, as it no longer supports plug-ins like Flash.
SeaMonkey seems pretty fast also, with many options...
    http://www.seamonkey-project.org/
    http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/
Might also look into iCab & OmniWeb versions.
    Also...
The last really supported Flash for PPC was 10.1.102.64, but if it's for like Facebook or such, people have been fooling FB to think they have a leter version installed.

Flash player 11.1 hack on PowerPC - https://discussions.apple.com/message/16990862
Might be later ones around also... saw 11.3 I think.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.
See in each Browser which version of Flash it thinks it has...

  • A connection to the QuickTime server could not be established. This computer may be having trouble accessing the Internet or the server may be offline

When I select “Update existing software in QuickTime Pro I get an error message saying “A connection to the QuickTime server could not be established. This computer may be having trouble accessing the Internet or the server may be offline”
This has persisted for several weeks. Any help will be welcomed as I do not know how to contact QuickTime support via Apple.
    I am using Windows 7 64 bit.
    Many thanks

I was able to download and install the latest version of iTunes  (10.6.3.25) without a hitch. After the reboot I tried again to update my exisitng Quicktime Pro software as described in my original posting and got exactly the same error message.
If it happens that there is no software to download because I am already running the latest version, surely a message to that effect would appear and not the one saying “A connection to the QuickTime server could not be established. This computer may be having trouble accessing the Internet or the server may be offline”
    Still seeking advice if possible
    Cheers

  • Trouble Accessing Virtual Machine After Time Machine Migration

I am hoping that someone else has run up against this problem and is able to help.
I recently purchased a new iMac.  I upgraded to 8 GB of ram specifically because I have VMware Fusion and want to use it on my new machine.
I chose to migrate my entire old iMac to the new machine using my Time Machine backup.
VMware appears to have migrated successfully.  I do not have any trouble accessing the application, but when I try to resume my only virtual machine, which is for Windows XP I get the following message:
VMware Fusion cannont connect to the virtual machine.  Make sure you have rights to run the program and to access all directories it used and rights to access all directories for temporary files.
How do I resolve this problem?
Thanks in advance to anyone who is able to offer me a clue on how to overcome this.
If I can't access this machine it appears as if I will be able to create a new one.  I would like to avoid having to do that if it is possible.
    Terri Schurter

    Captfred,
In that folder there is a virtual machine.  It is called Windows XP Professional.  So it is there.   When I am in VMware Fusion I can see Windows Media Player, which is what I was probably accessing the last time I was in the machine, so it does appear to have backed up the virtual machine.  I would expect it to because it is a part of a Mac application, VMware Fusion.
It appears to be an issue with permissions that I don't know how to solve.
I know there is a VMware forum, but I can't even figure out how to sign up for it the darned thing is so confusing.  I can't seem to post to it no matter what I do.
