Trouble accessing Profile manager, Wiki, and iCal from Safari

I have Lion Server.
When I try to access the Profile Manager, a Wiki User or iCal from https://server.local/wiki, I get the following error and can anyone help me determine why:
Service Temporarily Unavailable
The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.
Apache/2.2.19 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.19 OpenSSL/0.9.8r DAV/2 Server at server.local Port 443
I can access https://server.local/wiki, but not https://server.local/wiki/profilemanager for example.
I checked for postgres issues, not sure if I am having something going wrong there or not.
$ psql -U _postgres
psql: FATAL:  database "_postgres" does not exist
$ psql -U _postgres collab
psql (9.0.4)
Type "help" for help.
collab=#
Also, does this prove that Apache is running?

I'm not sure how to move messages, so I am reposting this to the Lion Server forum.

  • My Wikis and Ical on the WEB  give a Server starting up.. message

Wikis (and Ical on the WEB) give a Server starting up... message with the turning wheel. They were working perfect, and yesterday started the problem. I have not changed any of the server settings neither permissions. From Mozilla Firefox on windows throes an Mac OS X server message
500: An internal error occurred trying to process your request. Sorry. Safari gives a Server starting up..
I checked permissions and look ok, root and admin group have read & write access. to
/Volumes/DATA HD/ServiceData/Web/Documents/Collaboration folder and up in the path.
Does anybody know how to solve this?
I tried updating to OS X 10.6.5 but the problem continues.

I am having a similar issue as you marktech, with colaboration folder on a different drive.
My temporary solution is to stop and start web services on the server, and the message goes away and users can log in.  Problem comes back on a server restart.
Swamped here so have not been able to apply troubleshooting techniques.
What I have checked is verifying permissions on collaboration folder.  Seems like I had to re-apply permissions after any significant update.
My final resolution will be to migrate from the ssd hard drive (the extra speed is not any significant impact for us) to a 1TB hard drive and migrate data back over to a single drive in original directory locations.  appologies have not had ample time to research the issues....

  • Can 10.5.8 OD master be used with 10.6.2 wiki and iCal services?

    Hi folks,
I am having a hard time getting OD users on 10.5.8 to login to 10.6.2 iCal and wiki. Is this setting up supposed to work? I can't find any info from the Apple's OD Administrator's guide.
    Set up :
    * one 10.5.8 server running OD master
    * one 10.6.2 server running wiki and Apache
    * one 10.6.2 server running iCal and Apache
    * one 10.6.1 server running Mail service
The server for Mail does not bind to OD for authentication, and after assigning each OD user in group "com.apple.access_mail" all users can connect to mail service and get/send emails. Authentication is working perfectly.
However, based on the same OD master and user accounts, using the same connection methods (enabled iCal and Blog services in 10.5.8 server, without turning them on, and assigning users to both services in SACL) in the Wiki server and iCal server won't let any OD users to log in. In wikid's error log, I can see the following error msg :
    http://HTTPChannel,19,127.0.0.1 Unhandled Error
    Traceback (most recent call last):
Failure: twisted.cred.error.UnauthorizedLogin: Bad username or password: <username>
    Here are the questions :
    * can 10.5.8 OD be used for 10.6 wiki and iCal service? Or must I configure 10.6.2 OD (either in another server or in the same host?)
    * must the servers for wiki and iCal bind to OD in order for the services to work?
    * must Kerberos be running for the services to work?
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    Charles

A 10.5.8 OD master should be fine for wiki and calendar services on machines running 10.6.2. However, you do need to have your servers hosting wiki and calendars to be bound to your OD master. You can enable Kerberos for iCal if you'd like, but it is not necessary.

  • AFP / Profile Manager / Wiki problems Lion OSx 10.8.5 Server 2.2.2

I experience strange problems with our AFP sessions after upgrading to 10.8.5 / 2.2.2 where sessions will hang and a second session is opened. Users log out correctly. Seems that iMacs coming out of sleep mode are having this issue more then the ones with sleep disabled.
Most of the time I can solve the issue by having the user logout and then disconnect all the specific sessions in the server.app but sometimes I have to completely disable AFP and enable it again to solve the problem, this action has a lot of impact on th businees though. It also happens that only one session is shown but files remain locked as if there was another session still open.
All my users have their profile on the server so when this happens they cannot open mail etc. due to files being in use by the 'hanging' session already.
The AFP error log does not show me any errors at all, other then the shutdowns of AFP to make it all work again:

Since the upgrade I also have a non-working Profile manager / Wiki with the infamous "Error reading settings" error. For this I see the following errors in the logs:

This is a production server with 12 people using it daily so for me it is not the first option to take the server down and start hassling with it so I would be pleased if someone could help me to sort these issues without having to interrupt the day2day business here.
If any more information is needed, please let me know, I'll be more then happy to supply it.

Dear Alfi66, i have same issue as yours. Do you have any progress with resolving it?

  • Hi I am having trouble accessing the App store and I tunes on my IPad, it just keeps loading. How can I fix it please.

I am having trouble accessing the Apps store and ITunes on my IPad. It just keeps loading, can someone please tell me what I've done wrong. Thanks

I have never experienced that or read about it either but before you resort to restoring - and that may be what you have to end up doing - try the basics first.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Sometimes just restarting the iPad can really help. The resolution may end up being more complicated, but try the simple things and then move on.

  • No longer able to copy and paste from safari.

When trying to copy and paste from safari to Pages or Mail it continues to paste the original coppiced information.  In my online school environment (java) I am not able to copy and paste from safari to other programs.  I was able to do this without problem before upgradeing to ios5.

    jmgoldjr,
Same issue here and I have spoke with Apple support and actually had them log on to my University website and demo'ed the issue for themselves.  This was only yesterday and the response was it would take 5-6 days for upper level support to get back to me for further analysis.
What exactly is happening is when I copy text from my school website, the text is never copied to the clipboard so subsequently when I past it somewhere else it just pastes whatever exists in the clipboard from the previous use.
Did you ever resolve your issue or find a work-around?  If not I will gladly update this post when I hear more.  My wife's iPad on 4.3.3 is functions perfectly in the same regard.  Apple agree's it is a software issue but like simply require more time to diagnose.
Your University wouldn't happen to be Phoenix would it?
    Thanks.

  • 'Profile Server Not Available' error when trying to access Profile Manager

    Hello all,
I'm totally, totally new to OS X Server, but I have a class full of new iMac's and MacBook's that I want to be able to manage all in one go. Don't really mind about File Sharing, access from anywhere in the world etc. but I just want to be able to push updates to all of them at once as well as manage some default settings for them all.
I've set up most of what I can see I need to do in OS X Server such as the server itself as a .local, Profile Manager, Websites, VPN, Open Directory and Software Update, but when I try to access my .local through any browser, I get the main screen, but get an error page when I try to go into Profile Manager that says 'Profile Server Not Available. Please wait a moment and try again.'
Can anyone suggest where they think I might be going wrong or need to do? I can give more information or screenshots if needed, juts let me know. Any help super appreciated
    Yours,
    Elliot

    Hey,
Sorry, because I'm so new I don't quite get what you mean. A little more information is I'm using my MacBook which is connected to the same WiFi network as the other Mac's. What do you mean by the FQDN?
I'm able to type in the IP address etc. on any other of the Mac's and it loads the 'Welcome to OS X Server' page, it's just when I select Profile Manager, I get the error. Thanks for getting back though, appreciated the quick help.. and I'm still super stuck. I've got a whole day on it today ha.

  • AFP, WIKI and iCal not working

    Hello all,
After some trouble with OpenDirectory i am not able to list AFP shares, see the WIKI and start iCal services on 10.5.5 server. Details of this: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8393887#8393887
I am not sure if the topic link above is related but it happened at about the same time. Also, i am not sure if the three services i'm having trouble with are all linked...???
Trying to start and list AFP shares:
    vp1095:~ root# serveradmin stop afp
    afp:state = "STOPPED"
    afp:status = 0
    afp:timeStamp = "2008-11-03 11:36:09 +1030"
    vp1095:~ root# serveradmin start afp
    afp:state = "RUNNING"
    afp:status = 0
    vp1095:~ root# sharing -a /Volumes/Drive1/
    vp1095:~ root# sharing -l
    List of Share Points
    vp1095:~ root#
Notice no shares are listed. Now to iCal:
From ServerAdmin GUI, i click "Start iCal" and it returns the error: "No virtual host found for iCal service". Logs show:
    Nov 3 11:38:41 vp1095 /usr/sbin/servermgrd61: servermgr_calendar: created default calendar virtual host
Nov 3 11:38:41 vp1095 /usr/sbin/servermgrd61: servermgr_calendar: Virtual Host record is not network accessible, unable to start iCal Server
As for the WIKI, it seems i can browse the directories through my browser when i should really be seeing the WIKI interface. It's not running correctly. I have checked the path in ServerAdmin and it apepars to be correct. I have done a little testing with varied paths but still no-go.
The above is a simple view of what is going wrong.
DNS is hosted on a different server and here is some troubleshooting info. Note the server is "vp1095.vp.in":
    vp1095:~ root# dig -x 192.168.0.127
    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    127.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa. 3600 IN PTR vp1095.vp.in.
    ...and...
    vp1095:~ root# dig vp1095.vp.in
    ;; ANSWER SECTION:
    vp1095.vp.in. 3600 IN A 192.168.0.127
    ...and...
    vp1095:~ root# changeip -checkhostname
    Primary address = 192.168.0.127
    Current HostName = vp1095.vp.in
    DNS HostName = vp1095.vp.in
The names match. There is nothing to change.
So DNS seems to be working. Apache is working fine as is eMail, DHCP, MySQL, Printing and RADIUS. Both running on that same server. This is an OD master with no slaves. The server is running 10.5.5 on Mac Pro hardware.

If the opendirectory is running on osx server then you would be better posting this issue in the server section of the forum.

  • Profile Manager Code Signing Certificate from GoDaddy .spc

Convert the .spc to .cer for Profile Manager compatability.
Thought I'd share how to convert a code signing certificate acquired from go daddy as it downloads as a .spc file that Profile manager will not accept.
When you download your code signing certificate from go daddy it will be a .spc file as stated above, and profile manager needs a .cer file.
Take your .zip file over to a Windows 7 or better PC and double-click the .zip file.
    Then double-click the enclosed certificate.
This will open the windows certmgr.
Expand the certificate and locate your certificate (Should be the one with your company name )
Right-Click the desired certificate, select all tasks, then Export
Export the certificate as a DER .cer file.
Now copy the exported .cer certificate to your Server App/Certificates and import it into the Pending Certificate.
Once that's done also add the .cer certificate to your keychain.
Remember to replace the expiring certificate if applicable
    LJS

After loading the new certificates into the OS X Server box, the client devices will have to use the Profile Manager User Portal to load the updates.
Here is the Apple documentation on updating the Profile Manager certificate (HT5358), though you may well have found that document already.
Unfortunately, the users have to navigate to the portal for that, or you'll have to manage a short-notice device swap.  (If it were even possible here, I'm not sure I'd want folks loading new certs via email, either...)
If the existing Profile Manager solution doesn't meet your particular needs, then there are alternative MDM solutions around from other vendors, and that are also compatible with the OS X Server and iOS provisioning mechanisms.
    {FWIW, this is a user forum and the folks from Apple may or may not see your report.  If you have acccess to it, the Apple bugreport tool is a common way to log an enhancement request that the folks from Apple will see.}

  • I have an iPhone 4 that i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access all my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? It is also on the same apple id, but i dont know if that would help with anything.

I have an iPhone 4 thats i was trying to fix and now it will not turn on at all is there anyway that i can access my pictures and contacts from my new phone or pc? Aslo the are both on the same apple id but i dont know if that would help or not.

Contacts are designed to be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service.
Pictures taken with the device are designed to regularly be copied off the device to a computer as would be done with any digital camera.
If you have failed to use the device as designed it may be too late to recovery anything.
Is the device regularly backed up to a computer via iTunes?  If so, the most recent backup (when restored to a replacement iOS device) should contain all contacts and pictures as of when the backup was created.

  • I have a new hard drive, can I pull my contacts and ical from my iphone?

I have a new hard drive and I would like to pull my ical and contacts from my iphone to replace what I lost but when I sync my phone it doesn't bring the data onto my computer and if I choose sync calendar and contacts it seems to want to erase the phone and replace with the blank computer data. Any ideas?

If you are running OSX Lion and iOS 5, you can sync via iCloud.
What versions of OSX and iOS are you running?

  • I just purchased a new iMac, and I want to sync my contacts and iCal from my older Macbook Pro.  What is the easiest way to do this?

I'm not sure how to sync contacts and iCal between my older Macbook Pro and my new iMac.  I've searched on Google for a few explanations, but they seem fairly complicated.  Are there any easy ways to make this happen?

Is this a  one time sync or do you want to keep them synced all the time?
If it's a one time sync you want to use Setup Assistant to migrate your data from the old machine to the new one. You can use the Lion Setup Assistant tips for help.
If you want to always keep them synced you have several alternatives. First is you can wait for iCloud which will be released this Fall according to Apple. You can find information about iCloud at www.apple.com/icloud. Several years ago I began using a tool called Synctogether which syncs Bookmarks, Calendars, Contacts, Widgets, Dock Items, Mail Accounts and Mail Signatures. You just check what you want synced, for example I do Bookmarks, Calendars and Contacts. This app sells for about $49 I think, however if I were you I'd wait for iCloud which will give you 5GB (which is a LOT) for free.

Alright, so I've just checked the Manually manage music and videos box. But now when I uncheck it, it says that all my existing content on the iphone will be replaced with the content on my iTunes library. The thing is, I just clean out my entire itunes library so if i uncheck it, all my music will be gone. Help please.

    Why?! Where is your backup?
New empty library or did you clean out the existing one? If the latter then steps 1 & 4 aren't really necessary.
    You should be able to:
    Backup the device.
Transfer your purchases into your authorized library.
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup. This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!
