Trouble accessing the internet on a WRT54G wireless router

I’ve run into a problem setting up a wireless network at my friends’ house. The problem is accessing the internet from the wireless PC that has a WMP11 Wireless PCI Card to a WRT54G wireless router.
The wireless PC is running Windows XP and it sees and connects to the router with “excellent” signal strength but will not connect to the internet.
The router is currently set to WEP 128 bit encryption security. I’ve tried disabling the wireless security all together but when I do that the wireless PC no longer sees the router.
I have no trouble connection to the internet thru the wireless network I have set up at my house when I bring his computer there. But my router is an older Linksys 802.11b so maybe that’s why.
Anyone have any ideas what I should try other than telling him to buy a new wireless G adapter card?

If earlier your Wireless Adapter is working fine with the same network & computer .... try upgrading the drivers of the aqdapter .... from http://linksys.com/download  .... uninstall the older drivers & reinstall newer drivers ....

  • A connection to the QuickTime server could not be established. This computer may be having trouble accessing the Internet or the server may be offline

When I select “Update existing software in QuickTime Pro I get an error message saying “A connection to the QuickTime server could not be established. This computer may be having trouble accessing the Internet or the server may be offline”
This has persisted for several weeks. Any help will be welcomed as I do not know how to contact QuickTime support via Apple.
    I am using Windows 7 64 bit.
    Many thanks

I was able to download and install the latest version of iTunes  (10.6.3.25) without a hitch. After the reboot I tried again to update my exisitng Quicktime Pro software as described in my original posting and got exactly the same error message.
If it happens that there is no software to download because I am already running the latest version, surely a message to that effect would appear and not the one saying “A connection to the QuickTime server could not be established. This computer may be having trouble accessing the Internet or the server may be offline”
    Still seeking advice if possible

  • Trouble accessing the internet in a WDS

I am having trouble connecting to the internet from my MBP connected to an Airport Extreme base station in a WDS. My setup is as follows:
I have a Billion ADSL 2+ modem connected to an Airport Express in one room. In another room I have an Airport Extreme Base Station connected to an external hard disk and USB printer (via a USB hub). I have the Airport Express setup to connect to the Internet via Ethernet (i.e. the modem) and to act as a bridge (so that my PPPoE connection is handled by the modem. I have the Airport Extreme setup to extend a wireless network.
My laptop happily connects (wirelessly) to the wireless network, and whether it's connected directly to the wireless network via the Extreme or the Express (I check which it is connected to by checking the wireless clients list via Airport Utility) it can see the printer and external HDD connected to the Extreme and the modem connected to the Express (i.e. I can mount the external HDD, print to the printer, and connect to the modem's internal setup web server whether connected directly to the Extreme or to the Express). If my laptop is connected directly to the Express I can access the internet (via the modem), but if my laptop is connected to the Extreme I can't access the internet (even though I can access the internal web server on the modem).
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Another symptom of the problem is that while Airport Utility can 'see' both the Express and Extreme when my laptop is connected to the wireless network, when I click on 'Manual Setup' for one of the Airports it can only access the setup of the Airport to which the laptop is connected (so if I'm in the same room as the Express and am connected to the Express I can get the setup for the Express but not the Extreme, and vice versa).

    Hi,
I've got pretty much the same setup here and works fine.
In Airport Utility, go to the Airport you're connected to and check the Airport>Access tab.
In there I've got all the MAC addresses of the machines that can connect to it, that also includes the MAC address of the Airports. So the Airport Extreme has the Airport Express' MAC address, and the Express has the Extreme's address in the Access Control List.
    Maybe that solves it?

  • Trouble accessing the internet through Wi-Fi.

Essentially, my house has a wireless network that works just fine for the computer that uses it. I went into settings and connected to the wireless network in question and tried to use Safari on my iPod, but continuously get the message "Safari can't open the page because it could not connect to the server.". I checked my router and it does in fact see the iPod, but my iPod simply can't get on the internet.
I've tried turning the Wi-fi off for a while then back on, and when I do the wireless network is seen, but without the little lock symbol beside it in settings, then when I try to use Safari again the lock symbol comes back (I don't know if this is significant).
We've got WEP security on the network and the password -was- entered. For all intents and purposes the iPod should be able to access the internet. It's been assigned an IP address and, again, the router sees it.
I'm pretty much stumped, and since this iPod was a random draw gift at my graduation I don't have the receipt, and am currently unable to talk to Customer Service.
    Any ideas?

I am having that same problem. Used to connect up with my home's wireles network (Linksys wireless cable router, Toshiba cable modem). The lapotops are working wiressles, but the Touch doesn't seem to be able to connect either to my wireless network or to a neighbor''s unsecured network that I used to be able to log onto.
I did travel and used the Touch to connect to other wireless networks. Since returning, nothing. I have reset all settings, reset network settings, restored to factory settings... nothing seems to help, still hangs up on the "Choose a network". I was hoping that restoring to the factory settings would work... it even prompted me for the WEP key, but still just hung there.
Thoughts? Do I need to go to the Apple STore?

If your computer is running Windows, go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services.  Check to see if "Apple Mobile Device" Service is Started.  If not right click on this service and select Start.  Also make sure Startup type is set to Automatic.  If not, right click on this service, select Properties and set it to Automatic.

  • How can i access the internet using a non-wireless...

Before upgrading my BT broadband to BT Infinity, I was able to connect my two desktop PC's to the BTHUB2 without a problem. One of them is running Windows 7 and has a wireless connection, the other is running Windows XP and does not have a wireless adapter but it was connected by an ethernet cable to the BTHub2 which was portable and could therefore be plugged into any of the telephone sockets that were positioned around the house.
Unfortunately, since upgrading to the BTHub3 which is not portable, the Windows XP PC is too far away to connect using an ethernet cable and it is impractical to move it closer to the hub.
I'm happy with the position of the hub and do not wish to move it, so I need to consider other options.
As both PC's are in the same room, I understand that it is possible to link them with a Lan cable, and this will enable me to add the XP PC to my home network.
What I would like to know is what cable I need. (ie. what do I ask for) ? Is it an ethernet crossover cable ?
I'm sure that other BT Infinity users must have experienced a similar problem with older non-wireless equipment that is not in close proximity to the hub. I would be grateful for any advice that may help me to find the best solution to the problem.

Thank you for confirming that a LAN and ethernet connection are the same thing. I have tried linking the two PC's with an ethernet cable and I've read so many articles on how to configure them both to enable the XP computer to connect to the internet via the WIN7 computer and it's wireless connection to the BTHub3, but I'm afraid that I'm now more confused than when I started.
It should be possible to do so, but unless someone can explain the correct procedure in step-by-step fashion, I don't think that I will ever find the solution using this method.
Using a power line solution sounds like a simpler solution, but even that raises more questions.
Just to clarify the problem as I understand it -
The BT Hub is static and positioned in the hallway.
Both PC's are in the same upstairs room.
The room has a telephone socket on an extension which works with a telephone. There are also power sockets available.
I already have a home network set up with the WIN7 wireless PC as the host.
I have wireless devices connected to the home network that are working perfectly (eg.  HDTV,Xbox360, Laptop), but can I heck figure out how to connect the WIN XP to the home network.
I have managed to connect it directly to the Hub using an ethernet cable, but it involved carrying it downstairs into the hall and plugging the ethernet cable directly into the hub, and although this worked a treat, I need the PC to be upstairs.
Using a long ethernet cable is not an option either I'm afraid. Apart from the untidiness, I believe that it would seriously reduce the speed of the BT Infinity connection, which is also the reason that BT do not recommend plugging the hub into a telephone extension socket.
So far, using the ethernet cable between the two PC's and using the Networking Connection Wizard on the XP PC, I have tried connecting using the local area network with limited success. The STATUS window shows that it is connected with a speed of 100.0 Mbps, but the ACTIVITY only shows that there are packets being sent, none received. Also, clicking on Internet Explorer brings up a window stating that no connection to the internet is avalable.
However, my initial optimism that this at least indicated that progress had been made quickly disappeared after adding the   XP machine as a device to my Homegroup on the WIN7 PC.  The  local area connection STATUS window on the WIN7 PC shows the media state as 'enabled' and 'speed 100.0 Mbps', but again it only shows that packets are being sent and none received. Furthermore,  IPv4 connectivity is showing 'no internet access' and IPv6 connectivity shows 'no network access'.
I've tried running Windows Network Diagnostics and the troubleshooter stated that the Local Area Connection does not have a valid IP configuration. Here is the troubleshooting report:

I've also tried configuring the above properties by ticking the box 'Automatically detect settings', but it reports no connectivity. I haven't tried the third available configuration option which is 'using a proxy server', because I don't know if it is relevant or not and it is asking me to input an 'address' and 'port' ?
Any solution ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • How do I setup my MacBook Pro (2009) as a wireless access point for all my wireless device to access the Internet using a USB wireless adapter?

I connect to the Internet with a USB Super Antenna from CCrane.
I want to establish a network on my Mac to allow my other wireless devices to use the USB connection at the USB.
    Any ideas?

Yes, that would work, however it would cost me $2000 for the monitors.

  • TS1398 Having trouble accessing the internet over wifi on my iPhone 5.

Hello, I have a nearly brand new iPhone 5 in perfect condition. So far, I have had not problems with it, however recently, I have had major issues connecting to the internet over wifi. Some things that would happen would be apps that require an internet connection time out, and pages don't load in safari, and the reliabilty would be off and on.However after switching the wifi off and going off of my 4g, the connection was fast and I experianced no problems. I am positive this is not a problem with my home network, because my household had lots of people and LOTS of electronic devices that connect to the internet with no problem. I also have an ipod touch 4th generation that has been able to connect and browse the internet with no problem, it's just the iPhone that is being slow. Also, this isn't really a consistant pattern, occasionaly I will get it to work for like five minutes with no problems then it just time out on whatever it's doing.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Well it might still be the Mavericks Wifi issue... slow throughput on an apparently strong signal is part of its behavior from what I've read.  So to recap You got a signal (fairly Strong) appeared to be connected but Safari could not display the welcome page.
I'll share something I do in a case like that. I use Firefox. I keep a copy of Firefox, Opera and Chrome on my laptop because some sites use non-standard web code and the different browsers "play" better with the server/router. Safari is a lot better than it was when it first stared out but there are some sites put together (especially financial sites) that just won't let Safari play (they can code to prevent that).
If you have time between flights download Firefox and give it a shot... at this you have nothing to lose.
    Good Luck.

  • Our ISP changed the way we access the internet. Since then, wireless devices such as iPhone, iPad and iPod won't connect to the wireless and hold on to it. Devices get on, but then drop the network and can't get back on. Then it will appear, magically.

Our devices keep getting dropped off the wi-fi. The computer and lap top are fine, but the iPad, iPhone, and iPod all keep losing access to the network. We have tried:
Resetting the D-link, restoring Airport Extreme to its factory settings, resetting netowrk settings, powering down devices, turning wi-fi on and off. It has been pretty frustrating to say the least. This all started after our ISP changed our... I am not sure what it is called, but the thing stuck on the house outside to broadcast across the valley to the mountain where we get our internet.... Any other fixes?

I guess the issue is the Airport Extreme. We put back our old D-link and everyone is on. The Extreme did not live up to my hopes - (guest network, limit wi-fi for my children's devices to a certain time period...) And, it didn't last long - I think it is only a year old, if that. I have restored it to factory settings but to no avail.... perhaps it was a dud. Is anyone else actually able to limit access? I set it up but it quit working over and over and the kids were on whenever. Then we started losing all the devices in the last few weeks - laptop fine for wi-fi, iPad, iPod, iPhone all randomly kicked off and let back on.
This is a great idea - and it would be worth replacing if I knew my new on would work. Thanks for replying lllaass!

  • Why does firefox sometimes just stop talking to the internet and just set there with the connection icon spinning and spinning and not going anywhere, when Thunderbird can still get email and any other program is not having trouble accessing the internet

sometimes fire fox will start talking again, most of the time it take a reboot to fix it, as it may set there spinning, for hours, and i do not have time to fool with it, and a reboot is a pain

    Hi,
Do you have this problem with the ethernet and wireless connection ?
Did you installed any windows updated on your Windows 8.1 ?

  • Can't Get Sony PSP To Connect to Internet via my WRT54G Wireless Router

    Hi:
I hope someone can help who was able to do this.  I have tried everything and the PSP will not connect to my network.  I use WEP security and a MAC address filter.  I even turned both of these security features off and it still won't connect.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    Paul

I have version 1.1, but it has the latest firmware revision 4.21.1 of January 30, 2007. The firmware notes state it supports up to hardware version 3.  So you think this router won't work with the PSP because it is too old?

  • WRT54G router cannot access the Internet

My wireless PC can access the router but cannot access the Internet.
When I ping linksys.com - the ping times out; however, when I ping my ISP I get 4 pings back. When I ping the router the ping is successful as I get 4 pings back.
I am sure there is a fix for this problem. Can anyone help me get connected to the internet?
    Thanks
I just got DSL in my area and installed it. I have a Linksys WRT54G router and a zyxek 660R DSL modem. I have a PC #2 in the room down the hall and a PC #1 in another room. I have a Wireless-G USB adapter in PC #2 (this is the antenna for the wireless connection). Everything is installed and PC #1 can connect to the internet through the modem and router. However PC #2 can only reach the access point (router) and will not access the internet. I can connect to the internet for PC #2 when an ethernet wire is used directly but it is not great to have a wire running down the hall. I pinged the router from PC #2 and the echos look fine. So it can certainly reach the router. When I use the Local Network tab and click on DHCP Clients table both PCs are displayed. So how can a PC use a wireless connection to reach the internet? I have spent 4 days already trying to get this to work. My ISP can't seem to help.
    Thanks for your help.

hi... logon to router's setup page and try changing channel to 1 or 11, click on the advanced wireless settings and try reducing beacon interval to 50, fragmentation and RTS threshold to 2304, also try upgrading latest firmware on the router...also
if you are using Win XP system try uninstalling the adapter from the computer...click on start >> programs >> wireless G USB adapter >> uninstall, put the CD in for the adapter and restart the computer, one window pops up "found new hardware" try installing the drivers, no need to install WLAN software or utility and use windows WZC (wireless zero configuration) to manage wireless connection...check whether it works for you or not and let me know the results.

My PC is connected to AirPort Extreme by ethernet, I can access the network, but not the internet. The wireless devices on the extreme can access the internet

    Hey DM,
Is the Wireless(WL) router signal coming through the wired-router?
My ISP requires that my Wireless Router is identified from their end. I use AirPort Express, so they need its MAC address from the router. Without that, my network will show up, but my ISP doesn't recognize it and won't allow it to route he internet. I don't know your exact situation though.
Can other wireless computers access the internet? If they can through the WL router, then it might be the MacBook. If they can't, then you might want to contact your ISP and ask if they can see your wireless router?
    Let us know.
