Trouble adding printers. (Epson R1800)

I had no trouble printing with my Epson R1800 until one day my printer just mysteriously disappeared. I don't remember exactly when that happened, maybe it was after one of those system update.
I tried Disk Unility and I also tried reinstalling the driver but I'm still having the same problem -- when I click on "Add" in Printer Setup Utility, nothing happens. There's no printer listed either.
Does anyone know what's wrong? Thanks

Yes it was the update, most likely. 10.4.7 made it (prinitng) wobbly then 10.4.8 finished the job (HP All In One printer dissappared on my network but not on the machine it's connected to. See this thread:

  • Epson r1800 - 'Media not loaded correctly'

    Hello All,
I'm having a lot of trouble with my Epson r1800 - I've searched around the internet a bit for solutions but so far haven't come up with anything. To start, I have updated the epson drivers and also tried Gutenprint drivers.
Basically, no matter what I try (including the standard nozzle checks etc...) I always get the message 'Media not loaded correctly'. Occasionally pages will feed through the printer, but they are blank and regardless I get the media not loaded correctly message. Does anybody have a workaround or solutions for this?
    Thanks!
    Gavin

Try using the following directions from a message from Epson. This corrected my problems with an Epson R1800 and Leopard.
Thank you for taking the time to contact Epson. It is my pleasure to
    respond to your inquiry.
If your output is faint or if the driver settings and/or features are
missing, your system may have automatically added the printer using the
Gutenprint driver. Many Epson drivers are provided with Leopard but the
driver for your printer needs to be downloaded from the Epson website.
Determine Which Driver is Currently Being Used
    1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the Finder and open
    System Preferences.
    2. In the System Preferences window, click on Print & Fax.
    3. In the list of printers on the left side of the Print & Fax window,
click once on your Epson printer to select it.
    4. Check the name of the driver being used; it is displayed in the center
of the Print & Fax window next to “Kind”.
    5. If the driver name displayed next to “Kind” is Gutenprint, the incorrect
driver is being used. Follow the steps in the next section to select the
    correct driver.
    Selecting the Correct Driver
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Delete the print queue and remove the printer from Print & Fax by
clicking on the minus button under the list of printers. Click OK to
    confirm the removal.
    3. Go to the Epson support website (www.epson.com/support).
    4. Select your product model and download the driver for OS X 10.5 Leopard
    operating system.
    5. Double-click the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions
    to install the printer driver.
    6. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the Finder and open
    System Preferences.

  • G5 with Epson R1800

    Hi,
I have 10.4 OS with a Epson R1800 connected via USB. However when I try to print from illustrator an error comes up with Media Out or not loaded correctly.
I also have a ibook connected via printer sharing and when I print the ibook using Illustrator it works ok.
    ANy ideas?

When you connect your Mac to another Mac that is sharing a printer (be it local or networked) you are connecting to the spool queue provided by the other Mac, or in other words 'the path to the shared network resource'. This is computer term - nothing to do with Windows...
If you see the options when you connect directly (I think it would be USB - never heard of a printer connecting via FireWire) then as you say the driver is correctly installed locally. If they fail to appear after connecting to the share via the Printer Browser/Default Browser window, then it will have something to do with your local setup.
Basically what you want to do is use your local driver to print via the shared connection. So you have to override the default setup. First of all you have to ensure your local install of the driver is called the same as the shared printer? This will have an impact if it isn't as your Mac doesn't think it has the correct driver installed. Also, if you added the shared printer before you installed the local driver, then OS X will have configured the driver and assume these 'defaults' when you try to create a new printer connection. So try deleting both the shared and local R1800 printer from the Printer List, restart your Mac, and then add the local printer first. Once this has been setup then try adding the shared printer. If this doesn't work, you would have to 'Reset the Printing System' and install the printer again. However note that this will delete all printers from the Mac so only do it as a last resort and if you are prepared to add all the printers again.
Also, do you have the Mac's communicating via TCP/IP or is only AppleTalk enabled? If it's the latter, then I have seen this impact the availability of the extra driver options.

  • Epson r1800 driver installation

I've installed the Epson r1800 drivers from the epson CD on my G5 iMac. When setting up the printer in print utility only "E" is shown with it's firewire connection. The more printers dropdown doesn't list the 1800 drivers. I'm unable to locate the drivers despite having installed them.
    Any help? Thanks.
G5 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   firewire printer connection, direct to computer-no hub,

Epson printers must be added in a non-intuitive way.
Open Printer Setup Utility. Click on the Add icon at the top. Click on "More Printers" at the bottom of the window that opens. Another window will open. Make sure that you click "Default Browser" chosen at the top left. Use the pop up menu to select EPSON FIREWIRE. Then highlight your printer in the list below. This will enable the "Page Setup:" menu which will give you the choices of formats you want to add. Select the format (or all) you want to add and click the "Add" button at the bottom.

  • Mountain Lion and Printing on an Epson R1800

I have an Epson R1800, which according to Apple, is supported in Mountain Lion. Now, this printer worked nearly flawlessly until upgrading to ML. Now that I have, the printer just kicks out sheets of blank paper and I am always told that the printer's media isn't loaded correctly. I have tried deleting the printer and adding a new one in the Sys Pref as well as trying the Gutenprint drivers. Nothing is allowing me to print. Has anyone had any issues like this, or able to aid in troubleshooting this?

    Dave,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
“Offending Command” could be a number of different issues, i.e., font(s), LZW compression of tiff images, memory etc.
Is this a new problem, i.e., printing from the G5 to the Epson 3000 worked before?
Can you find more info on the error by using the Console utility?
What application and version are you using?
With Stylus RIP, are you using Classic (since the RIP is for OS 9) on the G5?
Have you tried printing the document(s) directly from the G4?
Alternatively, try making your doc a PDF and then print the PDF doc.
If the doc is a multiple page, you could try to isolate the problem by printing a certain page(s), or deleting an image (if there is one).
Hope this helps and let us know what happens.

  • Leopard + Aperture 2 + Epson R1800 == very dark prints

    Hi,
Before I upgraded to Leopard, I was able to get very nice prints from Aperture on my Epson R1800 printer.
After I upgraded to Leopard, the prints end up very dark. A bit of additional info follows.
    My monitor is correctly calibrated.
I installed new drivers from Epson's website (v6.12), and I verified I'm using those, and not Apple's Gutenprint drivers.
In the print settings I turn color management off, and than select correct ICC profile in the Aperture that matches paper and quality settings. For example, for printing on Epson Premium Glossy paper with PhotoRPM settings, I select "SPR1800 PrmGlsy PhotoRPM.icc" profile. Hit print, and after a bit of time the print comes out of the printer very dark. This sounds like ICC profile got dropped someplace along the way (in Aperture? in driver?).
If I go the other route, and let driver/printer manage color by selecting either normal or vivid options in print settings, and than use "system managed" setting in Aperture, the prints come out bright (maybe even a bit too bright). However, in this case the colors are off. Very off. Skin tones are especially bad with strong yellowish cast (people on the prints look if they were seriously sick).
Has anybody managed to get usable prints from Aperture 2 + Leopard combo on Epson R1800? Or any other comparable Epson printer (R800, R2400, new R1900)?
Searching forums, I found a lot of articles discussing Leopard and Epson printers problems for Adobe products (CS2/CS3/LightRoom), but not much for Aperture 2.
Unrelated question... I attempted to ask this in Aperture forum, but there was no post link. Do I need something special to be able to ask questions there?

Well, believe it or not, with the help of Epson support on the phone, I've figured this out. First of all, there is definitely a problem with Aperture's color management. What used to work (setting a color profile in the Aperture print dialog, and selecting "no color management" in the printer dialog) definitely does not work at this point.
If you want color management, what you have to do is select "System Managed" in the Aperture print dialog, and select "Color Controls - Epson Standard" in the Epson dialog. What this does is select the standard Epson profile for the paper you have selected. For example, if you've chosen Epson Premium Glossy Photo Paper, the printer driver will use the "SPR1800 Premium Glossy" profile (Epson's standard profile for that paper, assuming you've downloaded it). Of course, that gives you Epson's version of what you want to print. If you have created your own profiles, using a spectrophotometer for example, you need to get the printer driver to apply YOUR profile instead of Epson's.
Here's how to apply your profile: Open Colorsync (in the Utilities folder), and select "Printers" in the Devices menu. Under the printer model, Stylus Photo R1800, for my case, select the profile for the paper you're interested in, say "SPR1800 Premium Glossy", and look on the right side of the window at "Current Profile:". Click the down arrow, and select "Other". Navigate to the profile you've created, and click "Open". This will set the profile you've created as what the printer driver will use when it thinks it's applying the SPR1800 Premium Glossy profile. Set other paper profiles (e.g., "SPR1800 Enhanced Matte") to whatever profile you've created for those papers.
Now, when you select "System Managed" in the Aperture dialog, and "Color Controls - Epson Standard" in the Epson dialog, it will apply your own profile.
Hopefully, Apple will fix the problem with color management, and we'll be able to go back to color management as it was before. In the meantime, this is the only work-around I've found.

  • OS X 10.5 client and NON-OS X CUPS server: adding printers, solved

    Dear all,
I had trouble in adding printers under OS X 10.5, those printers are shared via a FreeBSD CUPS 1.2.10 server on the local network.
    So I did the following:
    - System Preferences;
    - Print & Fax, right click on the leftmost part of the window, then "Reset printing system";
    - Open Terminal;
    - As admin via sudo or root edit the /etc/cups/cupsd.conf file and modify the first lines so they look like:
    Browsing On
    BrowseOrder allow,deny
    BrowseAllow all
    BrowseProtocols all
    BrowseRemoteProtocols all
    BrowsePoll hostnameof_your_cupsserver:631
    BrowsePort 631
    - Save the file;
    - Restart the client;
    - Now you should be able to see/add the printers.
This is a quick and dirty fix, hope this helps.
    Regards,
    Alessandro

    Hi John,
my apologies for having misinterpreted your post. I think that Apple engineers really did a big mistake by omitting the keyword BrowseProtocol="all" in the print engine setup (cupsd.conf), since that keyword basically allows the cups-polld daemon, that is the piece of the local printing engine of OS X that can "ask" the LAN for the presence of printers, to ask for printers shared via CUPS/LDAP/SLP and so on.
I hope that this will be soon fixed in a minor release, since quite a lot of people (especially in the educational/research environments) heavily relies on a centralized CUPS server to manage tens or hundreds of printers (we do have 40+ printers, exported to more 400+ clients, both OS X and Windows).
BTW, this morning I was asking a little joke to my colleagues I said to them "300+ new features, an old one missing.. try to guess which one"
    All the best,
    Alessandro

  • Epson R1800

Hi All, hope someone can help. I have just purchased a new (09) Imac Intel, having real problems installing my Epson R1800. I have downloaded current Intel drivers, and installed, but cant get it to run properly, I cannot set the printer settings as nothing shows up. I have deleted the Epson folder and reset etc. Reinstalled, but it just doesnt want to work. The printer is fine and works on my other pc workstations ok. Epson havent got a clue, the tech there cant even understand the question let alone answer it, keeps sending info about using the printer settings, which I dont have installed. The Mac is only 4 weeks old and runs ok on everything else. Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards
    Brian

Had virtually the same issue as you, as well as the inane support from Epson. The one thing missing from the Epson instructions is the "Reset" function from Print Setup Utility. They forget to tell you to hold down Control key when selecting the printers. I've had no printing issues from my R1800 and my R800 once they were selected in the Print Setup Utility from the iMac. What gets downloaded from Epson only seems to mess thing up and gives me a second and third copy of the Printer Utility.
My problem with both printers now is they have lost the driver for Manual Feed, so I can no longer print on CD's. Epson is still thinking about it...but I'm not expecting anything soon.

  • CS3 Leopard Epson R1800 driver problems solved (hopefully)

Trying to put this post in searchable terms for others having the same problem finding the answer -- new to mac.
Everybody knows that you need to go to epson.com and download the new mac leopard drivers for most of the printers, including R1800. But the new driver won't install correctly unless you go into Library/Printers/ and move the entire "EPSON" folder into the trash can before double clicking the VISE install icon on the downloaded package. (Maybe there is another way to make it work, but mine wouldn't actually install and start working till I did this.)
If you have the right driver, you will see "EPSON SP R1800 (1)" as your driver in System Preferences/Print&Fax. Also, you will see "Print Settings", "Roll Paper Option", "Expansion" and "Extension Settings" as options in the pulldown menu in the epson print dialog through PS CS3 (after hitting print in the first print dialog box). There is also a "basic" and "Advanced" choice under Print Settings.
If you still have the wrong driver, you won't get any errors, but the new dialog box won't show up. The old driver that doesn't work shows up (I think I remember correctly) as EPSON SPR 1800 in your System Preferences window. No parenthetical. Also, if you have the old bad driver, in the epson print dialog box, you see a different set of options, and no 'basic' and 'advanced' choice under print settings.
I hope that helps some people. I was having a hard time knowing if I had the new driver actually working (even though I thought I installed it). Turns out I didn't! Thanks to random post by John McWilliams and Duane Ellison (who posted screenshot of new dialog in the LR forum), I figured out the thing with the Epson folder. Now let's just hope the prints look good!

    Hi Laura.
Isn't that the most frustrating thing in the world? Anyway, that isn't the right driver. That is the one that ships with Leopard (or something, I don't know - anyway, wrong one).
Try deleting the EPSON folder again, deleting your printer from system prefs/print fax, reinstalling the driver and re-finding your printer. Now that I think about it, I did that, and generally fiddled around in there a bit, before it worked.
I don't know how Macs associate printers with drivers (I'm a PC person and missing my PC!), but once the software in the dmg package was properly installed, the printer automatically picked up the EPSON SP R1800 (1) driver when I told it to go look for printers. I didn't have to choose it from the list of drivers.
    Hope that helps.

  • Epson R1800 and Airport Express

    Hi
I have read elsewhere in the discussions that the Epson R1800 does work with Airport express and am seeking some guidance regarding this before spending my coin on the Airport unit.
Since the R1800 is not listed in the ifelix list, will it be fully functional?
My set up is that I connect my PB to the internet and my other mac and shared printers via a Dlink DI-624.
Would the PB connect directly to the Airport express unit or through the dlink as an extension of my existing network?
What sort of operational range could this acheive? I would need it to work over a distance of 15 metres (45 feet ish) through a couple of walls.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Many compatible printers on the iFelix list are listed there because people have indicated, in these forum discussions, that these printers work. Therefore, if you have read elsewhere that the R1800 also works - it too should be on the list.
You would set up the Airport Express (to which the R1800 is connected) to "join" the wireless network created by your D-Link wireless router. Therefore, the Airport Express must be within the wireless range of the D-Link wireless router. Any wireless computer on your network would communicate with the Airport Express via your D-Link wireless router.
45 feet through a couple of walls will likely exceed the ability of the connection to achieve 802.11g speeds, but slower 802.11b speeds should be acheivable. Beyond that, it is impossible to say exactly how well or poorly your wireless connection will perform over that distance - you will have to try it out yourself and see what happens.

    What should I do?

The first thing you should do is re-write your post to make it a bit more understandable. I got you have an Epson printer connected to your PC, however after that  your post doesn't make any sense. Are you attempting to print from your iMac, if so then you need to download and install Bonjour for Windows on your Windows machine. Then set Windows so it has printer sharing turned on and then on the iMac simply follow Apple's instructions for adding a printer.

  • Can't print contact sheets on Epson R1800 with LR3

I upgraded to Lightroom 3 a few months ago and can't print contact sheets on 13x16" sheets using my Epson R1800 (it worked fine before in Lightroom 2).
I have this problem on both an iMac and Macbook Pro, both running the latest version of Snow Leopard.
I've tried re-installing the drivers, open the program in 32 bit mode and no joy.
I can use the Print Module no problem and can print 4x6 single prints or even do a 2x2 contact sheet on a 4x6. I can also print a 7x7 contact sheet on a 13x19" sheet using draft mode, but if I try to use profiles (the images are way too dark in draft mode), LR will spend a few minutes rendering the images, while this is happening the job appears in the Epson utility, but once LR has finished rendering, the progress bar disappears along with the job in the Epson utility and nothing happens?
    Anybody experience something similar?
    Thanks in advance for replying.
    John

Print Drivers on OS X aren't the same as on Windows...
You can't use an Epson driver made for USB-only Epson printers, because they wrote the driver to only work via USB. To use the CUPS Windows printer protocol, you need a driver written to use CUPS. The Gutenprint drivers Apple included in OS X are CUPS drivers. An update is here:
    http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php
If your specific model isn't yet supported, try other model drivers.

  • Color Settings with Epson R1800

    Hi
I am using an Epson R1800 with Photoshop CS5 and Lion. When trying to print I do not have the color management option and under Print Settings Color: and Color Settings: both are greyed out. This problem does not occur with my Epson D68 or when using Numbers and TextEdit.
Any advice would be much apreciated.
    Peter

Every printer has different drivers and different functionality. You can either continue looking through the printers print dialogue to see if it supports the feature you're looking for or you will need to put in a feature request to Epson and hope on later revisions they include it.  Because the print drivers are supplied to Apple from the printer manufacturer Apple has little control over the drivers.

  • Error code 9672 when adding an EPSON C120?

Like a lot of you, I have been frustrated with an error code that seems to be prohibiting me from adding my EPSON C120 printer to the printer list. I have spent extensive time talking to EPSON Support. I have checked and rechecked the cables. The printer is brand new and printed for about a day and a half. Then, then next time I needed to print was a week later, that is when I started having problems. It started as a Communications error message, I fixed that with clearing up some memory. Then the print jobs would be stopped automatically. In trying to fix that (Epson suggested uninstalling/re-installing) now the computer will not let me add the printer to the list. I am not trying to run the printer off an airport, it has always been plugged into the back of the computer. Does anybody else have any suggestions in order to solve this problem, please?!?

The problem seemed to be that we were printing to two epson Printers, a cx5400 and a 7800.
    I repaired permissions.
Then I deleted the epson print drivers by putting the epson folder which is in the Library folder in the trash. Next I deleted the printer preferences by putting all the apple.print files in the users, home folder, library, preferenced folder in the trash and rebooted.
I had to reinstall the printer driver for the 5400 first, It requires a reboot, then reinstall the 7800 print driver. Then I connected the 7800 from my g5 via usb, added the printer and printed. Next I put the put the 7800 on the Airport Express, added the printer and printed. I then printed to the 5400 and deleted the printer I defined to print via usb from the G5.
Now it works. I tried to install the drivers and add the printers in many different orders and it seemed to be very important that the order above be followed. If I didn't I would get the 9672 error when I tried to add the 7800 or a communications error when I tried to print to the 7800.
Support at epson let me know how to deleted the printer driver.
