Trouble After Moving Catalog in LR 3

Well I moved several catalogs to a folder in an attempt to get organized and now they won't open. I get the message that the folder can't be found. I tried moving the folders back to where they were originally but the link is broken. I followed the instructions on how to re-establish the folder link but the problem is it wants me to point to a folder of images and I did not save the raw files to the hard drive in the first place. All I have is the Lightroom files but no images. Any way to get this resolved?

jsmith044,
are you saying that you imported the RAW files from memory card into LR using the <Add> function in the Import Dialog? Only then would the RAW-files not on the hard drive.
If you were importing using the <Move> function then your imaages are somewhere on your hard drive.
Please understand that imported images are not in LR in the sense that the images themselves are in LR. LR stores all the changes in the catalog and it references this data in the catalog to the image files (RAW-files, Tiffs, whatever). So in order to safeguard your work you always need both: The LR catalog and the image files.
If you cannot find your images on the hard drive - and do not look for them in LR - look for them with your OS (Mac Finder / Win Explorer and including the Trash / Recycle Bin)) then your images are gone.
You can't bring them back as such but you can recover them from the previews in the catalog (if you have that catalog!). For this you need a program like "Preview Exporter" by Rob Cole. You'll find it on the LR Exchange website.

  • SSO failing after moving catalog and repository

As a test, we recently copied the repository and catalog files from one OBIEE server to another in development. The configuration of the servers is virtually identical. After the copy, SSO is no longer working on the second server. After the user authenticates, analytics gives a "Not Logged In" message. The error shows up like this in sawlog:

The log doesn't actually say {user_name} - it shows the user ID of the authenticated user, so at least it's retrieving the ID of the user. Everything else seems to be functioning. The connection pools in the repository are connecting successfully. If you get into Analytics using a repository account like Administrator, the catalog objects are there and pulling the expected results.
Any ideas for why the SSO would be failing in that way?

    Hi Alan,
How are things? If you have CRM registered as an external app (rather than a partner app), then there is no API that I have found to change the password. These are stored in the table portal30_sso.wwsso_appuserinfo$ which you can update directly. When you insert or select values from the app_username or app_password fields, you need to use one of :
    wwsso_utl.decrypt_ps_username
    wwsso_utl.decrypt_ps_password
    wwsso_utl.encrypt_ps_username
    wwsso_utl.encrypt_ps_username
You can find out the app_id of your CRM external app from portal30_sso.wwsso_application_info.
    Hope this helps.

  • Wrt54g troubles after moving.

At one apartment, I was able to use my wrt54g router for wireless internet with no difficulty.  I moved apartments and when i open up my macbook, it says i'm connected to the network, but trying to use a web browser proves that isn't actually the case.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Follow the instructions in the manual and perform a full installation depending if you have cable or DSL connection.

  • Can't open Numbers file after moving it back to Mac from Dropbox

Please help!  Can't open Numbers file after moving it back to iMac from Dropbox.   Says I need the newer version of Numbers each time I tried to open the file.  I am 100% sure that I had the newest version.   Spoke to the AppleCare guy and after doing the checks he is also sure that I had the latest version of Numbers and AppleCare can't help.  He suggested that maybe i should run it on a file repair program...any suggestion?... please help...

I've read reports of people having trouble when storing Numbers 3 documents on Dropbox.  I think it's related to the fact that they're not really "files."  They're "packages" that look like files. I had thought that Dropbox had cleared this up with their latest update. You should be on Dropbox version 2.4 or later.
If you have Time Machine you may have some luck going back in time and restoring the document from a previous version.
Storing Numbers documents on iCloud works much better, at least for me, and (unlike Dropbox) iCloud facilitates automatic syncing to other Macs and iOS devices signed into the same Apple ID.
Perhaps you could consider keeping Numbers documents in iCloud instead. iCloud is deeply integrated into the app, and now works well.

  • SoundBlaster X-Fi Driver Installation Fails After Moving Soundcard to New Slot

NSoundBlaster X-Fi Driver Installation Fails After Moving Soundcard to New Slot4 I recently moved my X-Fi Elite Pro soundcard to a different PCI slot to accommodate my new large PCIE graphics card.
Prior to moving the card, my?original SoundBlaster install went fine without any trouble. When I booted up after relocating the card,?it was not detected at all. So I uninstalled my SoundBlaster driver software and?rebooted the computer?thinking that was necessary to clear any hardware configuration settings from the old install. This made no difference. I then discovered my card was not seated properly and corrected it.
Next I installed the SoundBlaster driver software. The installation proceeded and finished with a request to restart the computer. Once I did, the computer detects my card and starts the hardware installation wizard asking if I want Windows to search online for driver software. It does not recognize the just installed SoundBlaster driver installation. I have a dual boot setup and this happens in both WinXP Pro and Vista 32 Home Premium.
    What's wrong here?

Forget it folks...couldn't wait for any suggestions so I just cleaned off my hard dri've and reinstalled everything. Works fine.

I regret that you're having trouble setting up your email, corbad! You're on the right track with your incoming email address. You might also try incoming.verizon.net or incoming.yahoo.verizon.net as possible alternatives, and 995 as the port number. Please let me know how that goes!

  • AirPort doesn't have a Valid IP Address after Moving

After moving to a new apartment, I've been having a lot of trouble with my AirPort.
At first, only my computer was able to connect, even though I kept getting warnings that it didn't have a valid IP address.  No other devises, including other computers, were able to connect.  Throughout this entire time, the airport light blinked yellow.  Then, all of a suddent, the airport light went solid green, and now I can't even connect wirelessly.  I've had a tech savy friend look at it, and I also tried a hard reset.  Nothing works.
My building provides us with internet, including the Motorola modum (SBV5330 SURFboard) in my room.  Under networks, it says my SirPort is connected and has the IP address of 10.0.1.3.
    Can somebody help me?

    jschenmd wrote:

So your ISP has chosen to throw you into the "worst case" situation I mentioned above.  I don't know why ISPs do that.  If nothing else, it increases their support costs.
He also convinced me to keep the linksys router stating that it was still an excellent device and unmatched in quality.  So, I guess I won't be changing to Airport! Any disagreement or benefit of the Airport over a linksys broadband router model wrt54gl v1.1 other than my being a fan of Apple products?
I have no experience with Linksys equipment, but I suspect that it's no better or worse than most.  I also suspect that the support people at your ISP are guilty of recommending only what they know.
If you already have that AirPort Extreme base station, I'd tell those people to stop jerking you around and update their configuration to let you use it.

  • Moving Catalog PSE8

I am going to move my catalog (15K) from one internal drive to another on my PC.  I recently moved from PSE6 to 8 and my question is, after I convert my catalog from 6 to 8 do I simply do a full back up and restore it to the new drive?  If that is the right way then, do I go back and delete my catalog on the old drive once the new one is verified?  I read a couple of old threads but I wasn't completely clear on the correct procedure.  Also, when the procedures are complete, will my catalogs still be intact?
    Thanks,
    Tim

I have just gone through this but have also moved photos to a network drive.  I also upgraded from PSE6 in the process.  This is what worked for me:
    1) Perform a full backup of the system.
    2) Open PSE6 and verified all photos are linked in the catalog (the coversion to PSE8 will loose these links).  Correct or remove the missing links as required.
    3) Exit PSE6
    4) Install PSE8
    5) Load PSE8 and convert the catalog from version 6.  This will keep the old PSE6 catalog and create a new converted PSE8 catalog.
    6) Use the instructions given above (in a previous post) with the folder view to move the photo folders.  Drag and drop folders to the new location.  If you have many folders, I would recommend moving a parent folder so you don't have to do each folder individually.
    7) The PSE6 catalog will now be unusable as the images have been moved to a different location.
Moving this to a Samba server caused some complications but I eventually got it to work.  Moving these to an internal drive should be a piece of cake.  Please not of the following issues that I ran into:
    a) Some photos were copied instead of moved from the original location.  I verified everything was in place after moving the photos with the help of the folder view.  I simply removed the original photos and had no issues.  I'm not sure if this was because the photos were being moved to a network drive.
    b) Some slideshows are missing photos if the slideshow is edited in PSE8.  I think this is because the photos were removed from the PSE6 catalog at some point.  You can look at the PSE8 project files now to identify the missing photos.  The file name and path is listed in the project file if you desire to fix this up.
    c) You can't drag and drop to a new location if the new location does not contain a cataloged photo.  This is because you cannot navigate through directories with the organizer's folder view if there are no images in these directories.  Simply copy some image to the location where you desire to move the photos to.  Now use the organizer "Get Photos" to populate the catalog with this image.  This will allow you to navigate to the new location such that you can drag and drop directories as required.
There might be another simpler way (I have not tried this so please be warned):
    a) Install the drive and assign a drive letter to it.
    b) Move (or copy)  the photos to the new drive using the same file hierarchy (i.e. C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\My Documents\My Pictures\camera\photos\... --> X:\camera\photos\...
    c) Mount the new drive to an empty NTFS folder such that the path remains the same as before (i.e. mount the drive to C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\My Documents\My Pictures\ with the above example).  You will need to make sure "My Pictures" is empty before the drive is mounted.
    e) In theory this should work for PSE6 or PSE8 so it shouldn't really matter when you do the upgrade.  Just make sure that PSE8 sees the logical mapping instead of a physical mapping through the organizers folder view.

  • After moving router, WiFi iPad shows old location

After moving (about 100mi) and reconnecting to Internet, I fired up my iPad 1 (WiFi), and noticed it insists that I am still at the old location.  I changed the SSID for my WiFi access, but it did not help.  iPhone shows correct location, wheter on WiFi or 4G.
Is there a way to reset location information Apple holds?  Presumably it's related to my WiFi -- obviouly not the SSID, but maybe the WAP's MAC address?  Seems pretty silly that Apple would not be more clever here; what if I wanted to routinely carry my router between my main residence and, say,  a summer home...

Your iPhone shows the correct location because it includes a GPS receiver that makes use of A-GPS or assisted GPS. The assisted part uses location data available with connected cell phone towers and/or with an available wi-fi network with the location of the associated wireless router's MAC address that has been recorded/registered to help speed up the initial GPS acquisition from a cold start.
The wi-fi only iPad does not have a GPS receiver nor a cellular data connection. It is relying on the recorded location of the router's MAC address for location services.
Apple formally used Skyhook's service for this. Skyhook includes an option at their website to register the location for your router's MAC address with their database for location services.
    http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php
Note: User submitted data is processed immediately by Skyhook. For most devices, this will mean you should immediately see the difference in your location. If you are moving an existing access point in our system, it may take up to 7 days for the new location to take effect on the device. Depending on the update frequency of our partners, data entered here can take up to 7 days to be included in their results.
I've read that Apple switched from using Skyhook's system for this to their own, but I don't know how this is updated in Apple's new system. A problem with this is it came under big time scrutiny not long ago in regards to privacy concerns. Google acquired this from available wi-fi routers while updating their street view maps - without anyone's knowledge or permission. Not sure if Google was fined but Apple came under some scrutiny as well.
Point being, Google was "clever" and got into some trouble over this. If this is being done automatically with Apple's new system for this, it may take several days or longer for the new location for your router's MAC address to be updated.

  • Can I delete these files (see screen shot) after a catalog restore?

I have Photoshop Elements Organizer version 9.0.3.0 and am running Windows 7 64-bit SP1.
After I got a new computer, I created a backup of my catalog (via the file drop-down menu in Elements Organizer).
I then restored the catalog to my new computer (via the same drop down menu in Elements Organizer).  It went fine and my catalog is just as I left it.
Now I'm trying to clean up the look of things in my "My Pictures" folder (I'm a little OCD, lol).  The restore made a folder within a folder within a folder... so I was wondering if I can delete all these files that the restore made? (see screen shot) This is the entire contents of one of the folders the restore created.  The other folder just contained all my photos by themselves.
I don't know what all those folders do, so want to make sure they will not damage/corrupt my catalog or the organizer if I delete them.  I will later make another back-up, of course.  I'm hoping that all these files will just recreate themselves?  I just want to delete them so I can get rid of so many excess folders in my "My Pictures."  I just like to click "My Pictures" and have my pictures be RIGHT THERE.  It's annoying to have to click through like 4 folders to get to them after this catalog restore.
    Thanks for any guidance!

    @99jon,
Thank you for your help!  And, dang it, I did choose a custom location for the restore.  The instructions I was following said to do that (I didn't really know what I was doing so I made sure to follow them to a 'T').  Looks like the file path for the catalog *is* pointing to that folder in the screen shot of my original question here.
So does this mean there is no way to delete them?  I wish I could just start fresh (but of course still have my catalog with all my images and the right categories/keyword tags, etc).  I don't mind the wait for regenerating things or moving things and stuff.
I don't remember ever seeing all those breeze files and cache files, etc, on my old computer.  I never saw any files of the sort until I did the back-up.... of course, maybe that's because they were stored somewhere other than right inside "My Pictures?"

  • ITunes freezes after moving library

    Hi all,
After moving my iTunes library to an external HD (I followed the instructions...) threre are some music files (not all) making trouble. I can't play or delete them from iTunes. If I try to, iTunes freezes completely. Removing and re-installing doesn't have any effect so far.
Thanks so much for your help!

I too moved my music libary to an external HD; however, I cannot see any music in iTunes? Suggestions?

  • Struggling moving catalog + pictures

Last weekend I've bought a Macbook pro retina and installed LR4.3 on it.
My desktop pc is windows and my current pictures and catalog are on that machine.
Due to the retina screen, i want to continue editing my pictures on the Mac but I have problems moving the pictures and my previous work to the mac.
I've read a post about just copying the pictures and the catalog to the other pc, open the catalog en just fix the filelocations but that doesn't work. I can select the correct pictures but it seems not to work. LR still reports a missing picture.
Then I've tried the export as catalog option with a portable harddrive. When I connect that to my macbook, I can read the files but LR4 reports that I can't open/edit a catalog from a network location. My idea is to buy a fast USB3 or thunderbolt solution and edit the pictures direcly on it but does that work?? It only seems to work when I copy the exported catalog and picures directly to the macbook en don't run it directly from the external storage.
When I'm doing editing the pictures, I want to copy them back to the desktop machine due to the online backupservice it's running.
So what am I doing wrong? It can't be that hard.
What the best practice in this situation?

    A few simple steps:
    1) On the computer you want to move away from (I call it old computer from now on): Open Lr. In the Library Module / Folders panel create a new folder. Then drag-and-drop all your image folders on top of that new folder. After that this is the parent-folder for all your image folders.
If you have a single parent folder already you can skip this step.
    2) Backup your catalog. Just for safety.
    3) Close Lr. With Win Explorer / Mac Finder move or copy (whichever applies for you) your newly created parent folder (together with all its image sub-folders) to the new computer (or an external hard drive).
This is important!: At this point do NOT change the names of the folders or their structure.
    4) Copy the Lr catalog, i.e. the file with the extension  <  .lrcat> to the new computer. You can also copy/move the previews folder, i.e. the folder with the extension <  .lrdat> to the new computer, although this is not strictly necessary. If Lr doesn't find previews it will create new ones. Double-click the catalog-file to open Lr with the moved catalog. Naturally this requires that Lr is installed on your new computer.
    5) In Library Module / Folders panel right-click the parent folder for all image folders (it should show a question mark) and select <Find Missing folder> or <Update folder loacation>.
Navigate to the location of the parent folder and select it. Lr will find all the subfolders on its own.

  • T42 Display turns off after moving

    Hello everybody!
I´ve got a problem with my Thinkpad T42 (2373fwg), XP prof. with the latest updates running. After installing the latest drivers for display (ati) and for "ThinkVantage Active Protection System " the display turns off immediately after moving the Thinkpad. I can turn the display on again only by reboot. The error appears even in a second after reboot, so it doesn´t concern to windows. The system doesn´t crash, it´s only the display. The problem might concern to the shock sensor, but I don´t know how to solve it.
Does anyone of you has an idea?
    Thank you and kind regards
    Bill

I have a similar problem: T42 (2373-5wg) Screen blanks. At first screen blanking was rare and seemed to happen when moving the pc, but now the screen blanks within 1-3 minutes after turning on the laptop, even if the computer is left untouched after being turned on.
It is not OS related as the blanking appears even when in BIOS setup or booted on a liveOS CD.
I can't tell for sure if the system crashes or not as the display goes blank (doh!), however, I have seen no reports of registered crashes in the visible part of the boot process.
The screen blanking appears quicker (or even instantly) if the computer is warm (e.g. turned off just before being turned on).
Blanking appears simultaneously on the LCD and on any attached external monitor, so I believe this rules out a defective LCD, backlight or inverter board.
I'm thinking it's a failing graphics adapter or system board, or maybe a loose connection that causes a component to overheat and fail. But I don't know which or how to fix it.
It IS out of warranty, of course. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Niels
EDIT: It seems this could be yet another case of badly soldered BGA chips that seems to be troubling the T4x series:

I think what is happening is that the kernel does not have the drivers for the IDE controller on the board for the CLE266/VT8235. Does this seem accurrate? And if so, how can I verify the current kernel config, then compile a kernel with everything else Arch needs to boot properly? I am familiar with the old means of setting up a kernel using the 'make menuconfig; make; make modules_install' etc method.
Thanks for the help in advance!

Hi, not sure if this is still causing you an issue, but I just ran into the same problem.
For me, I have a Sharp PC=MM1110 which has no cd drive and doesn't like to boot from USB. To get Arch installed on it, I had to attach it to another PC (via it's docking cradle, which lets it show up as a USB hard drive), then boot the other PC from an Arch install cd and select the USB hdd for all of the partitioning etc.
When I rebooted after the installation, the Sharp wouldn't boot.
First, I had to edit the grub menu entry to point to (hd0,0), at which point I got the error listed in the first post... Failed to parse block device id's.
If i booted into fallback mode, it booted without a problem.
For me, the solution to finally get it working was to boot into fallback mode, remount the filesystem as r/w, and run mkinitcpio -g filename to rebuild the kernel. Once completed all I had to do was point grub to the new kernel image and it booted ok.
Hope this is useful to someone
