Apple TV is correctly listed on audio output devices
when i select it nothing happens and internal audio is still flagged
if i reboot apple tv then it works again.

  • Problems with Airplay audio from Ipad to Apple Tv 2

    Hi
I recently bought an apple tv 2 mainly to use it to airplay content from my ipad. Video streams perfectly the problem is with audio, every single time I play any song it stops playing for a second or 10 quite often. I cant play a single song without getting this annoying silents. I thought it might be a problem with my Wifi although the router is pretty close to the ipad so I changed routers but still the same problem also Video streams great, Ive seen complete 2 hour movies with no problems at all. I got an update to the apple tv 2 today and thought that might solve the problem but it didnt.
¿Does anyone else have this problem?
¿Does anyone know what it might be?
    Thanks for your help.

    Fixed this.
I started fooling around with the Wifi and noticed that as soon as the signal was down to one or two bars the video also had problems when streaming and also had problems streaming from my Macbook. Thats when I realized the problem was not iOS dependant. So I went to a shop bought two nice and shiny N-Wireless routers connected one upstairs where my internet connection is and setup the second one as a repeater bridge downstairs 5mts away from the apple TV so that it gets full signal. Dont have any problems with Audio nor Video since.
    Cheers

  • No Audio when Airplay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV

    Hi Community,
it happens that after disconnecting the aiplay mirroring the next streaming into the apple tv doesn't play the audio. it stays instead in the speakers of the Mac.
i tried to change the output on audio preferences but i can't click on it! the selection just bounce back to internal speakers.
the only way to fix this is to restart.

This works: clicking "Restart". Thx! Please note, Apple bug fixers....

  • AirPlay Mirroring from Mac to Apple TV intermittent sound drop-off

I can't stream iTunes or Spotify to my Apple TV without getting intermittent sound drop-out (say every 30 seconds) when I use AirPlay mirroring through my Mac. This odd thing is streaming through my iPad or IPhone to Apple TV is perfectly fine; so is using my Mac to stream to my Sonos speakers. I can even stream iTunes pefectly fine through only the Apple TV alone - so it's nothing to do with my broadband connection
I have today performed upgrades to the Apple TV and my Airport Express firmware but the problem persists. Anyone else experiencing this or found a solution?

Hi, same here for me. Using AirPlay for streaming music from my Mac Mini (iTunes latest version) to my ATV2 (software latest version) has intermittent drop-outs (about every 10 to 15 sec for 5 to 10 sec). At the same time streaming to my Airport Express station in the kitchen works fine. Using the VOX player streaming from the Mac to the ATV works fine, only that I can only stream to one destination. Tried streaming from iTunes to ATV only, the problem remains. Streaming video - even HD - works fine. Using the ATV to select music from my Mac's iTunes library works fine, too. Still I want to stream from my iTunes on the Mac to several destiations including the ATV. Seems to me to be a problem of iTunes. I think the effect appeared after an update of iTunes or OSX, because it had worked fine before, already.

  • Airplay audio from Yosemite stutters intermittently, video remains unusable.

I've come across numerous other threads describing this issue but none seems to have a resolution other than "wait until Apple fixes it via update", so I decided to make a post and see if I could find some newer answers since it's been a while.
Upon updating my macbook pro to Yosemite back in when it was released, Airplay audio from my MacBook to my Apple TV 3rd Gen stutters for about 30 seconds after beginning Airplay and intermittently thereafter. With Mavericks, everything worked perfectly and nothing has changed hardware-wise since then, which handily implies that Yosemite is to blame. Still, I have wiped and restored both my macbook and the Apple TV (via usb), and even my router (Airport Extreme ac) in my efforts to troubleshoot with no luck. Wifi conditions are maybe 8 feet with direct line of sight and I've tried both 2.4 and 5 GHz spectra. Video airplay functions after a fashion but has a continuous stutter that makes it practically unusable. Note that this issue also affects my partner's MBP but both of our iPhone 6's continue to function perfectly.
Other solutions I have come across include disabling bluetooth on the mac, but this solution is untenable as it breaks the functionality of Continuity features which I have come to depend on and also doesn't seem to work for everyone, and several terminal commands which alter the behavior of bluetooth on my system which ultimately have the same adverse side effects as simply disabling it.
I am seriously lamenting this broken airplay functionality and, since it was a key motivator in my use of the Apple TV product, am strongly considering something different. Am I pretty much just out of luck here?

  • Airplay audio (from iPad or iPhone) is continually dropping with AirPort Express.

On other support articles I have seen the suggestion to change Wi-Fi frequency, but I do not  have this option with my AirPort utility (V5.6.1) running on a Windows laptop.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

  • How to play youtube from MAC to apple tv

How do I play youtube from MAC to apple tv?

In short, you cant. Older macs dont support airplay to apple tv's due to hardware restrictions. To do so you need a mac thats around mid 2011 or newer.
However goolge Airparrot as there is a $10 app that you can purchase that enables compatabilty with older macs. I have never used it, and there are some performance issues on older machines. It will eat your processor performance and some macs may have choppy video results.
As a note the reason only newer macs are airplay compatible is because their GPU's have onboard H.264 encoding capabilties that airplay uses, whereas older macs dont so using airparrot relies on the processor to do the encoding.

  • Airplay audio from Apple TV via Express and Video to TV

    All:
I am hoping to play video to TV via HDMI and at the same time use the Airport Express connected to better speakers to play the audio via airplay.
Not using the optical out for audio as my speaker system does not have the optical input. I only wish the new apple tv 3 rumored to be out next week has one more audio output. In the mean time i was hoping apple tv could do the simultaneous airplay audio through airport express.
    Did anyone try this?
    Thanks

I have the same question, and have not found any way to mirror the audio portion of AppleTV video to Airplay speakers on my network.
But if your amp and speakers are close to the TV, you don't need to use the optical port. You could either use and HDMI splitter, or use the audio out on the TV to pass the audio to the amp/speakers.
NOTE: Latency may be one of the reasons Apple doesn't want to attempt this—the audio not syncing with the video... This weekend I am going to try using two third-party products, AirFoil and/or AirParrot, to see if I can stream video to the ATV and send the audio to other speakers. AirFoil has a video player built in that they say addresses the latency issue.

  • Can I get 5.1 Surround Sound from Mac to Apple TV?

    Hi,
I have an iPad, iPhone and an Apple TV, and I love airplay, such a great feature!
I'm thinking of replacing my desktop for a mac and I was wondering; if I had a 5.1 surround encoded video file on my mac, would I be able to push the whole screen to Apple TV through mirroring and still get the 5.1 sound output to my audio receiver and speaker setup?
I'm NOT asking if I can airplay an mp4 encoded movie through iTunes at 5.1; I know I can already do that on my desktop and it works fine.
What I'm looking for is the ability to simply mirror what's playing on the mac to my hdtv through Apple TV, while still retaining the full 5.1 surround mix and outputting it to my audio receiver (i.e. Without having to convert the file type and drag it or play it in iTunes).
So before I take the plunge and spend over a grand on a mac, is this possible?
If this isn't possible I will probably just get a Mac mini and plug it directly into my receiver via hdmi. I can't see any problems doing it that way (I hope!)
Any info here would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Thanks for your assistance, but I spent quite some time researching this before posting, and the post you link to (which I've already read) doesn't actually answer my question, that person is asking about his wireless speakers receiving individual sound channels through airplay. Other discussions, which I've also looked at, seem inconclusive.
I was really posting in the hopes of finding anyone who had personal experience of trying to play a fullscreen, 5.1 surround video file using airplay mirroring from their mac to their Apple TV, and if they received 5.1 sound.
Thanks again for your help though.

  • E1000 Dies After Streaming from Mac to Apple TV - Needs Reboot Every Time

    Hey everyone:
I got an Apple TV a few weeks back and we've been using it a lot, especially to stream Netflix.  However, another application that I got it for was for streaming iPhoto slideshows and iMovie stuff to the Apple TV with Airplay's screen sharing.  This event scenario has played out several times.....  Screen sharing is up and going and it'll be working great.  All of a sudden the TV will go back to the main Apple TV menu on its own.  Upon further review at this point, NONE of my WiFi (iPhone, iPad, etc.) devices will connect to the network and I have to power cycle the router.  Router lights are on, but no one's home.  At this point, it'll boot back up and then everything will be fine, at least for a while.
Tonight, I was showing vacation pictures to some family and this same process happened twice.  Since I can't seem to figure out how to stop playing a slideshow in iPhoto and then start it again in the middle, it's very annoying.  Here are some relevant troubleshooting points to consider:
    1.  This network problem (or something similar to it) has happened in the past, but whatever it is, streaming a slideshow really seems to aggravate it.  This seems to be the only scenario that I can do to actually INDUCE the issue.  Periods of long uploads or downloads are fine.  Streaming audio from one device and similar usage seems to be fine, but this scenario fails pretty much every time, and not necessarily right away.
    2.  After having this issue tonight multiple times, I stopped trying to stream an actual iPhoto slideshow and just went into the album and scrolled through the pics one by one.  I did this for at least an hour with no issue.  But with an actual slideshow, it failed twice in 30 minutes or less.  And it's happened before tonight as well.
    3.  It doesn't appear to make a difference what application I'm streaming from on the Mac.  Whether it's iPhoto, iMovie, or even Facetime.
    MacBook Pro Specs - OS X 10.8.2 - Late 2011 Model
    Apple TV - MD199LL/A, v5.0.2
    Router - Linksys/Cisci E1000 - Firmware v2.1.02
Anyone else have similar experiences or advice?  I've got a fair amount of devices in my home that use WiFi, but there was nothing irregular going on in the house to generate an excessive amount of internal network traffic or anything like that.  My gut says the problem is with the router, but it's only a few months old, and I've updated the firmware to no avail.
Thanks a bunch for any advice you may have!

OK, so I've done a couple things here and both point to the above post about having two devices doing AirPlay at once.
First things first....  I ran the Inssider tool and looked over my network.  My signal seems to always be between 50 and 60.  My router is on Ch 6 which seems to be the best choice.  There's one other network on that channel, but it's a very low signal strength.  The other ends of the spectrum are pretty well covered by other networks.
Does this shed any light on this problem?
Second - I hard wired my MacBook to the router, then screen shared to the Apple TV.  It was up for at least 15 minutes.  At some point, I looked over and it was no longer sharing, but the network *WASN'T* trashed like it normally gets.  So it possibly got dropped for some other reason.
Third - I forgot that I have an Apple Airport Express that I normally use to stream music to a radio in my garage.  However, this device can be used as a router.  So I set it up this way and created a 2nd network.  I only put the Macbook and the Apple TV on it.  I've been streaming continuously for about 35 minutes now with no issues.
So it would seem that there's a firmware issue with this router that won't allow one device to Airplay to another device.  Does anyone else have any other conclusions or suggestions?  Otherwise, looks like I'll be treating myself to some new hardware after Christmas.
Thanks very much for your help!

  • I have HDMI connection to the receiver and on to the TV - but no audio from my new Apple TV.  I have checked all connections and the video is xlnt.  Have also toggled thru every possible Dolby/Audio combination in settings.  Help!  Any suggestions?

I have an HDMI connection to the receiver and on to the TV - but there is non audio from my Apple TV.  Not for movies, music, YouTube etc.   I have checked all of the connections and the video is xlnt.  Have also toggled thru all possible Dolby/Audio combinations in settings.  Help!  Any suggestions?

    Hello again Parker -
The basic setup is Digital Cable Box, DVD Player, Denon Receiver/Amp and TV Monitor.  To that I added the Apple TV.  The Receiver only has two HDMI IN slots (one for cable and one for the DVD) and one out to the Monitor.
[I bought a switcher to toggle the DVD and the AppleTV back and forth but just disconnected the DVD to simplify when I ran in to trouble.]
    So now I have:
HDMI from the Cable Box to the Receiver
HDMI from the Apple TV to the Receiver (in the old DVD slot which always worked well)
HDMI from the Receiver to the Monitor
RCA's from the Receiver to the Subwoofer and the other speakers
In addition I have some backup connections:
S-Video, Optical Audio and L/R RCA's from the Cable Box to the Receiver
S-Video from the Receiver to the Monitor
    Wait - JUST FOUND IT!
By going thru the excercise to track all of the connections per your suggestion, I found an anomaly when I switched Receiver sockets for the HDMI links.  The video moved but the audio didn't.  Turns out the monitor was using the optical audio feed from the receiver.  So I disconnected the optical audio and the monitor automatically switched to the HDMI audio feed!   Looked promising...
So I first connected an optical audio feed from the ATV to the receiver - Audio!  Then I pulled it, but the audio didn't switch to the HDMI feed.  It stopped.  Would be OK if all I was going to use is the ATV, but I need the DVD player too and I can't use a switcher to toggle between them if I have to unplug the optical audio each time.
This is becoming a career!  Any suggestions?
    Will

  • Picture not in- sync with audio on Mac and Apple TV

I bought "Bait" through the itunes store.
After about 3-5 minutes the sound is behind on the picture. Not synchronized anymore. Apple told me to reload, which I did without any hope of change.
