Trouble applying Master page to recto

Hello,
I am trying to apply a different master page (Master-B) to the recto (page 7) than is applied to the verso: Master-A is applied to document page 6 and Master-B is applied to document page 7. The top of page 7 shows an object from Master-B and the bottom of page 7 shows an object from Master-A.

What version, and patch level of ID?
Do the objects that "don't belong" touch or cross the spine on the master pages? Were they overridden onto the document pages before you changed masters?

How to apply master pages across sections or whole

It's a very basic problem to which I'm not readily finding the answer in searches. I wish to apply master pages and consistently, no matter how I format the request, am notified: "one or more of the pages specified are not valid page names." So please provide an example of how the page/section names are supposed to be written for:
A 100 page book with 1 section;
A 100 page book with 2 section;
Applying master page changes to only a subsection of the book (i.e. pages 50-75).
I'm aware it's similar to "Sec1: 1-100", but not precisely that.

OK, I think maybe I'm beginning to understand waht you are doing. Are you trying to use the Pages Palette menu to Apply Master Page to a range? You would need to include the section number for both pages, like this: Sec1:1 - Sec1:100.
You can also select the pages in the palette first, then use the apply master command. That might be easier.

Depending on your needs, you might be able to loop through all the docs
in the book, and apply the A Master a to all blank pages.
That would be an option. But is it not possible to insert a master page instead of a blank page while updating a book?

Applying master pages while typing

I am running framemaker 7.0 (I realize it is a very old version). How do I force it to add a page based on a different master page that I have set up? Right now it adds the default (none).

FrameMaker is supposed to automatically apply Left and Right master pages to new pages as they are needed in facing-page documents, or apply Right master pages in single-sided documents.
Perhaps these troubleshooting steps can help identify the problem:
Verify what master pageis actually applied to a body page by selecting a body page, zoom it up to fill the screen, then view the master pages. The active master page is the one applied to the body page you just left. If this procedure verifies that the None master page is being applied to new body pages, then either something is corrupted, or perhaps somebody has customized your FM installation to run a script, or perform some other action that applies None when new pages are added.
Does None get applied in a brand-new document as pages are added? If yes, then again, FM may be corrupted, so you may need to run the Windows repair process on your FM installation (I'm a Mac guy, so I can't give details.) Or, you can try to uninstall and reinstall FM, but IIRC depending on which version of Acrobat is installed on the same system, there may be some conflict with the Distiller that FM installs. Others on this forum can advise you on these issues better than I can. Also search Google for terms like "repairing applications windows <name your version of windows>" without quotes, for details.
Open another new file, and see if None get applied when you perform File > Import > Formats (select all formats) from the troublesome file, then add pages. If this new file applies Right then Left, then the FM installation is probably OK, and the problem document may be corrupted.
A MIF wash run on a copy of the problem document may clear the corruption. Search Google for terms like: FrameMaker "mif wash" (note the quotes around mif wash - they focus the search.)

Master pages failing to be applied (along with some unexpected behavior)

Hi all,
I am having trouble getting our structured app/template to apply master pages properly. We're on Frame 11 using an XDocbook, customized app.
Here is the configuration:
1. Reference page structMasterPageMap:
Maps element E:BookInfo to the "Title Page" master page.
Maps element E:PrefaceInfo to the "Frontmatter" master page.
2. Frame XML document content:

     <title>
     <edition>
     <copyright>
</bookinfo>
As you can see, this doc does not yet have a PrefaceInfo element, although one is allowed by the DTD. So the obvious solution is to either: 1) add one (wrap the <copyright> element in a <prefaceinfo> element as allowed); or 2) add an "E:Copyright" mapping to the ref page. Yet, neither of these work. Here's what occurs:
Solution A: On the Ref page, add a mapping from E:Copyright to the "Frontmatter" master page:
1. Open the document in Frame and note that the master page Title Page is applied, but the master page Frontmatter is not, as expected.
2. On the ref page, add the E:Copyright mapping to apply the Frontmatter master page.
3. Reapply Master Pages, and the Frontmatter page is applied, as expected. All is good....except. When you close and then re-open the document, no master pages are applied, not even the Title Page which had previous worked. Huh, what?
4. Remove the E:Copyright mapping from the ref page, reapply Master Pages, and the Title Page master page is again applied.
Note: This behavior is reproducible whether I replace the E:PrefaceInfo with E:Copyright on the reference page, or retain both. I can also reproduce this by using the paragraph tag instead, of the element, i.e. P:FrontmatterCopyright.
Solution B: In the document, add a <prefaceinfo> element:
1. Open the document in Frame and note that the Title Page master page is applied while the Frontmatter is not, which is expected.
2. Wrap the <copyright> element in <prefaceinfo>.
3. Reapply Master Pages. Nothing happens, i.e. the Frontmatter master page is not applied.
4. Save, close, and reopen the document. The Title page is applied, but the Frontmatter is not.
Yes, I have checked and rechecked that the actual master page names match those entered into the reference pages, including case. :-)
Possible conflicts/factors?
1. Could the structure of the document (as allowed by the DTD) affect master page application? The element <copyright> can exist both inside a <prefaceinfo> and independently under <bookinfo>. This doesn't seem likely, especially because as a test, I saved the doc as .fm, discarded the structure, updated the ref page to use para tags instead -- and still the master pages are not applied correctly.
2. Pagination can affect this -- at first we had Format>Page Layout>Pagination set to "Single Sided" so I thought that was why the left-hand Frontmatter was being ignored. But I have ruled that out; the template is now double sided, and Frontmatter is a left page.
I am stumped! Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Is Adobe World Ready Paragraph Composer the default in CS6 or something? Perhaps that must have caused some issue. I still don't know. I can confirm that no one else has touched this particular file, and it was created and edited only in CS6.
For new basic styles, you recommend aforementioned composer or the old Adobe Paragraph Composer, especially if the work is only in English (UK/India)?

Create a blank page without custom master page applied,left navigation,top navigation

hi,
i am having a requirement where in i need to a show a report- which is actually a 3rd party tool's custom web part -. this web part is a report which has lot of metadata. so customer doesnt want to see the custom master page
or left navigation, top navigation, right nav in this page.
is it possible to achieve a blank web part page that doesnt have custom master page applied- i mean this page should not inherit the my custom master page- and just add the custom web part here.
help is appreciated!

In Aperture Books, changes to Master Page FONTS don't get applied to pages?

In making a book in Aperture, I can change the font in a Master Page (or create a new Master Page with the font I like), but when I try to apply the changed/new Master Page to any given page in the book, the font I want doesn't show up. It's still there in the Master Page, but doesn't get applied. I've seen the thread on a related subject from 2008, but the one work-around proposed there is over my head, technically. Is there anything new to help me in 2012?

Master pages not applying to site and subsites

I am having an issue with a master page not applying to a site and subsites. The site is created using the community template and has the following hierarchy:
TopLevel: SharePoint Central - server/SPCtrlv2/sitepages/welcome.aspx (webpart page)
subsite1: Community - server/SPCtrlv2/community/sitepages/categories.aspx (community template)
subsite2: Learn - server/SPCtrlv2/learn/pages/default.aspx (publisher template)
subsite3: Showcase - server/SPCtrlv2/showcase/default.aspx (blog template)
The community site was created and then the Welcome page was changed to point to the Welcome.aspx location. (not sure if that matters) When making the application from the top level via Site Settings > Look and Feel > Master Page > dropdown from
Site Master Page (SPC_Global), the master is only applying to the Learn sub site. In SP Designer, the master page/ css files are not showing although they are on the site. (Using designer 2010)
I was able to apply the master with no problem when the top level used the publisher site template. Unfortuately, the community template is not available at the sub site level so we created a new site with the community template at the top.
Any guidance you can provide is much appreciated

According to your description, you want to apply master page to all sub sites.
Did you use SharePoint 2010 or SharePoint 2013?
If you use SharePoint 2013, you may need to use SharePoint Designer 2013 to find the master page file.
For applying master page to all subsites, I suggest you do as the followings:
1. Make sure you have enabled the “Reset all subsites to inherit this site master page setting” in the Top Level “site
setting”->”site master page setting”.
2. Check whether you have enabled “Inherit site master page from parent of this site” in the “site setting”->” site master page setting” of each sub site.

Master page overrides - override more than one page at a time?

Hi there.
I have a master page that has many items on it.
I applied master page to 15 pages.
I want to override the same two items on each page. Is there a quick way of doing that?
Any help would be appreciated.

Use layers so you can hide or lock the top objects. if you are not using layers the stacking order will change when you release the MP item, which I assume you don't want.

Replacing master page layout for documents

Hi all! I have been making a book, and have been using our standard master page layout. I now have to change the master page layout of the whole book, and I have made a document that uses the new master page layout. I did the typical make new master page layout, gave it a name, and everything seemed normal. I then went to add it to the existing documents but, my new layout is nowhere to be found. How do I add this new layout? I thought I could just change out the current master page layout for the new one. The only changes are the graphics at the top, and some header and footer changes. Body text stays the same. I'm on FM11 by the way.

How? Import Formats from the Book menu should do what you want, followed by an Apply Master Page operation (assuming the new pages have exactly the same names as the old pages to be replaced).

I hope your coding is correct, but it seems stories[0] do not have "CN" Styles.
Change the below line:

How to set master page for Wildcard inclusion Managed path in Sharepoint 2013

I am using sharepoint 2013. I created mysite in root level for newsfeed. Also i included wildcard inclusion managed path named as

You need to update the mysitehost masterpage. all master pages are created as mysitehost template.
Here is how you do it.
Create a site collection with template as mysitehost
Modify the mysitehost masterpage
Once it is done, update the mysitehost in user profile service application

Haw to restore deleted master page object

If I apply Master Page to some page an then override and delete some object which originates on master page - is there any way to bring it back again with scripting?
I'd like to avoid reapplying Master Page - becuse I don't wat to reset overridden attributes other master page objects.

Most properties can be stored and applied using the "properties" property.
Depending on the content type, you will need to handle it differently. FWIW, here's some code that will apply properties from one text frame to another. For content you would need to either move/copy the text or thread the frame.

Master Page Mappings

Hi, fellow FrameMaker enthusiasts.
My template contains reference pages on which elements are mapped to master pages. When I open an XML file in FrameMaker, FM asks me if I want to apply the master pages to each page in the document. This is tedious and time consuming in a ditamap containing 30 files.
I thought the mapped master page application would only take place when you select Format > Master Pages > Apply Master Pages. Is this not true? Am I doing something wrong?
I've consulted the help and several books and found no helpful information.

I can now see two update rules one is Z update rule for 0PLANT and the other one is the business content.
Yeah actually there are not two update rules, infact one is update rule and the other is transformation. You can now delete the old update rule(3.x)

Yeah it is ok. If you dont want to, you can keep the update rule and never use, but whats the use, go ahead and delete it.
Why do we need to copy the Infosource??
The old is a 3.x infosource and that IS is being used by the object in the update rules. So you would need to create a new infosource. Even when you create a new infosource you have 2 options, 3.x or a 7.0 one.
