Trouble backing up iCloud data on my Mac to iPhone5

How do I restore my apps from icloud on mac without having to download apps again?

Hi, thanks for responding. 'ON MY MAC' is MAIL under Mailboxes and REMINDERS. That's where I store important emails, instead of keeping them in my Inbox. But they're too important to lose, so I want to copy them to a CD so I have a backup. I can move each email to the CD individually, but A. that would take a lot of time and B. I know there has to be a more efficient way, which I'd like to know about.
Thanks

  • Backing up iCloud data onto my desktop

I've gone to the Apple KB page that talks about backing up your iCloud data onto your computer. Seriously? I don't trust the cloud, period. I'm a web developer, so I have a pretty good idea what can go wrong with a server. If I decide to use it, my 3 backup systems are probably way more stable than the cloud. Is there truly not an easier way to make sure my data is being backed up to my desktop? All I really use it for is calendar, contacts, and email.
    Any thoughts??

I use iTunes as a 2nd backup method.  That has yet to fail me.

  • Trouble backing to icloud

I decided to create an iCloud backup of my phone & pad.    Both devices are plugged into my iMac, and both can use the Wi-Fi that my iMac is connected to.
The first thing I did was go into iTunes, click on the iCloud button and press "Back Up Now".   Both cases repeatedly backed up to my computer, even after rebooting.
Then I went into my iPhone, set it to back up to iCloud and repeatedly tried backing up, without it ever getting past the calculating stage.
Then I went to my iPad and tried the same thing.   It asked me for my AppleID, which I entered, but it didn't accept.   I switched to my iCloud password, and that worked.   It started backing up.   After a while it failed, and trying again had the back up work.   I turned off iCloud Backup and checked in iTunes and saw the iCloud backup listed.
I never got a logon prompt with my iPhone, which is currently set to back up to the cloud.   I don't want to leave it that way, as I don't want it starting sometime when I'm not in wi-fi range (my data plan is limited).
All of my software is up-to-date.

i tried something else:  instead of deleting the backup after i reset my network settings, i let it continue with the incomplete backup, and it managed to finish backing up, and everything seems ok.  i guess i'll find out the next time it tries to do an icloud backup.
i am still curious if anyone out there has had this problem, or is able to provide any insight!

  • Delete previous backed up icloud data

If I choose "delete backup" am I also deleting the pictures/contacts/notes/messages/etc that are saved on my phone, or only those which were previously saved on a prior back up?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you select "Delete backup", you will remove all backups of your iPhone saved in iCloud, but you will not lose anything from your iPhone

  • HT1178 How do I set up time capsule to back up my data in Imac, Mac Book Pro, Ipad 3 and Iphone 4

I just got my New Time Capsule. I have managed to access wifi but would like to know the process for activating my capsule to update my data on my Imac, Mac Book Pro, Ipad 3 and Iphone 4?

Turn on Time Machine in Imac and MBP..
iPad and iPhone have no direct connection to TC.. they backup to iTunes.. which the computer will backup via TM.

    what does this mean?
You have a disc inside your optical drive.

    Remove the extra disc.
    My answers are basic because:
You never told us which model iMac you have?
How you are burning?  Through iMac?  External burner?
Which OS you are currently using?

  • Transfer iCloud data from 4 to 4S

I'm having trouble with my iCloud data transfer.  I'm trying to send info from my iPhone 4 to my 4S.  Can you make a comprehensible step-by-step set of instructions on how to transfer data from a previous generation to a newer one?

  • HT4847 can I back up my iCloud data to only 1 user on my mac, & not the other users?

Can I back up my iCloud data to only 1 user on my mac, & not the other users? I have 3 different users on 1 mac, & I don't want all of my icloud info & photos available to all users.

Each user account on a mac has their own logins for itunes store and for icloud accounts.  Now, all three users can use the same icloud account in their mac account, but that is generally not recommended.  They should each use a different icloud account.  For example, user "me" on mac can set up an icloud account in System Preferences>icloud to, say, [email protected] and user "you", in their mac account can set up icloud using, say, [email protected] in their icloud setting.
I suspect you don't mean "backup my iCloud data to only 1 user on my mac" since you can't back up icloud to a mac (nor can your backup a mac to icloud).  Do you really mean sync?

  • IPad Calendar doesn't sync back to iCloud nor Mac

    Hello all,
I have a strange issue that, since a few days, the iPad-based, iCloud-linked calendar doesn't sync back to iCloud. Hence, for that reason, the calendar on the Mac isn't in sync, and this is, as you can guess, pretty annoying. iPad runs iPhone OS 6.1, and the Mac runs Snow Leopard. I manually configured the calendar portion of iCloud as indicated, and sync between iCal (Mac) and iCloud doesn't suffer any delay.
Additional information: when initially reinstalled, the iPad has two sets of calendars: one locally synced with the Mac, the other being iCloud, and there's overlap between the two, thanks to this pesky sync problem. I really appreciate the convenience of iCloud, but can't go without the safety of local sync. I may go days without manually syncing the iPad with iTunes but still, iCal is my lifeline, and any defect in keeping updated or worse, losing events will result in serious profesional consequences. It already happened in the days before iCloud.
iCloud-related information: my Apple ID is an email that has been dead for years. Since I used it heavily before the mailing privider ceased activities, I couldn't practically restart from scratch, so I am currently using this "fossil" login along with an updated Yahoo contact adress, and recently added an @me.com adress from iCloud. The latter is the adress is the one used to connect to iCloud's calendar from iCal, and works nicely.
However, the iPad, despite being configured with iCloud natively, doesn't update. I restarted it, but since the most up-to-date calendar is on the iPad and un-synced, so far I didn't try deleting and re-adding iCloud to the iPad as it would delete events added since.
What could cause the iPad to lose sync with iCloud, and how to solve that and prevent it from happening again?

David, nice to hear from you again, hope you are well.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Address Book.
I believe you have duplicates because you have two sets of contacts. "iCloud" and "On My Mac". Once you have created all your contacts in the iCloud account, you should delete them from On My Mac.
You can move contacts simply by dragging and dropping from one account to the other, you don't need to export them all to the desktop (although doind so will serve as a good back up if all goes wrong). You should note that this copies them though rather than simply move them, so you'll need to delete the old set when you are done.
As for preserving groups from the On My Mac Account, you can't but you can simplify recreating them by copying contacts (drag and drop) from an on my mac group to an empty group in iCloud.
Not sure about the contacts that you are struggling to move.
Many aspects of iCloud are difficult to understand, have a mull through what I've said so far and come back if everything still doesn't fall into place.

  • HT4436 I am using IOS 4.1 in Ipod touch. I would like to take my data back using icloud. I am not able to enable icloud in to my ipod touch. please help me for the same.

I am using IOS 4.1 in Ipod touch. I would like to take my data back using icloud. I am not able to enable icloud in to my ipod touch. please help me for the same. Basically I am trying to take back to upgrade my ios to 5 or 6 version.

You can't back up to iCloud until you update to iOS 5 or higher.  You will have to back up your iPod on your computer using iTunes.  Update iTunes on your computer to the latest version, then connect your iPod to your computer, open iTunes, if iTunes give you a pop-up asking if you want to update your iPod, decline.  Then click on the name of your iPod in iTunes, go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer any purchased media to your iTunes library.  Next, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click on Back Up Now to back up your iPod on your computer.
When it's done backing up, click on Check for Update (or Update) on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings.  Allow your iPod to update, and leave it connected to your computer.  At the end, it will restart and give you the option to restore to the iTunes backup you made earlier.  Choose this option to restore your backup and sync your apps and other iTuens media to your phone.
This process is outlined in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972, under "If you are attempting to update using a Mac or PC with which you normally sync".

  • Recently had to purchase a replacement phone a friend of mine had backed up the data on the lost phone to his Mac laptop how do I get that backed up data from the lost iPhone that's on his Mac laptop to my new replacement phone? Please give step by step

recently had to purchase a replacement phone a friend of mine had backed up the data on the lost phone to his Mac laptop how do I get that backed up data from the lost iPhone that's on his Mac laptop to my new replacement phone? Please give step by step instructions xoxoxo
And my iTunes sign in is also screwed up... It is underneath my friends email (the one with my backed up data on his Mac laptop) HOW DO I CHANGE THIS SO THAT I CAN DOWNLOAD APP's again...

I suspect unless he had some items in iCloud backup then they are gone.  Connecting an iPhone to a different library from that to which it was previously connected will result in the device asking if you want to erase it.

  • I'm temporarily using my daughters 4s since mine went underwater. how do i back up my data on her phone without overwriting her backup file in icloud?

my 4s went in the ocean this past weekend. ugh. guess it was time enough to switch to a 5 anyway. so i commanderred my daughers 4s to use as my own for a week or so while i get the new 5. I backed up her data to our family shared icloud account (7 devices and 50g), and then deleted and restored from my own backup. i also changed the name on her phone to my own. but, now when i look at the backup management on icloud, it shows her backup with "this device" under and my new name on it. I expect if i back up to icloud now it will not overwrite the back up i restored it from, it will overwrite the most recent back up of this device, which was her final back up. how do i back mine up- perhaps just to itunes for a week or so, until i can restore her back up back to her phone?
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks-
    dad in trouble...

If this is your first sync and there is already data on the phone, perform the steps listed below.  This will transfer your apps and other media purchased from the iTunes store to your iTunes library, perform a manual backup and restore, then sync the iTunes media back to the phone from your iTunes library.  This will not transfer media from other sources such as music from your ripped CDs.  As you said you never synced before, I assume all of your apps, music and other media was purchased from the iTuens and App stores.  If this is correct, you won't lose anything.
    Download and install iTunes: http://www.apple.com/itunes/.
Launch iTunes, go to the View menu and click to check Show Sidebar.
Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices (Edit>Preferences>Devices if using Windows) and check "Prevent...from syncing automatically".
Go to Store>Authorize This Computer and authorize all Apple IDs used to purchase apps and other iTunes media (music, podcasts, movies, tv shows, etc.) on your phone.
On her phone, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup and turn iCloud Backup to Off.
Connect her phone to your computer and in iTunes go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer your purchased media to your iTunes library.
Right-click on the name of the phone on the left side of iTunes and click "Reset Warnings".
Right-click on the name of the phone again and click "Back Up" to back up the phone.
Right-click again and choose "Restore from Backup...", select the backup you just made to restore from and restore the backup to your phone.  If prompted to back up again, decline.
Go to the Info tab and make sure nothing is checked so you aren't syncing calendars, contacts, etc. with iTunes.
Go to the Summary tab and select This Computer under Automatically Back Up.
Check the other tabs to confirm that your sync settings are the way you want them.
Click Apply at the bottom to sync your phone.

  • Im having trouble backing up my iphone 4 to icloud

Im having trouble backing up my iphone 4 to icloud, anyone have any suggestions how i can fix this? I have tried resetting all the settings on my iphone but nothing works

If you get the message "Backup not successful",  I had the same problem.
My solution was to turn off some apps (Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>manage Storage, tap my device name in the Backups section, then look under Backup options) and try a manual backup.  If it didn't work, turn off a few more apps and try a backup.  Keep doing that until the backup works.  Then try adding in some of the last batch of apps that were previously turned off - the objective is to find the app that causes the backup to fail.  For me, I suspect that the one app I found had a bad data file that, when included in the backup, caused the backup to quit.
This can be a long process if you have a lot of apps that you originally turned on for backups.

  • Having trouble with disc space on my 120G mac air. I back up to a separate my passport for mac disc, but my mac is also holding 40G worth of back up when i check what is using space. Why is this?

Having trouble with disc space on my 120G mac air. I back up to a separate " my passport for mac" disc , but my mac is also holding approx 40G of back ups as well when ive checked what is using space. Why is this?
Ive started running iphoto from the separate passport to save space,
and put all my music into the itunes match to save space as well
but it is still saying it is almost full because of the back ups!
I should of bought a bigger mac, but i need to make do at the moment, but it is hard when it constantly has only 10G or less space left.

When you use TimeMachine to back up a Mac notebook the local backups feature is automatically enabled. The local backup is just like a TimeMachine backup but it is done to the internal drive rather than an external. The important thing about local backups is that the feature is smart - as you need more drive space for your own data and applications, TimeMachine automatically culls the local backup to give you that needed space. So yes, it will look like you have very little drive space left and that the backup is 'robbing' you of needed GBs. But it really isn't.
