Trouble burning FCP output in DVD SP

Okay, I've gotten little response in the DVD SP discussion forum so I thought I'd ask the FCP wizards...
I've authored the entire DVD with an outputted video (with DVD SP markers) from FCP. Now it's saying I can't do any of that because markers can't be less than 0.4 seconds apart from one another. I've checked my entire track and cannot find any markers that close together. Help! My boss is wondering where the authored DVD is!

You're kidding.

  • Trouble burning existing slideshow to dvd.

Using pse5.3.  A few weeks ago I made a slideshow and was able to burn it to a dvd.  I am now trying to make additional copies of that slideshow but...once the wmv file is made and a menu template is added (in premiere) and I select burn dvd it just brings me back to the photoshop page???!!!  On one attempt it just shut down the whole adobe program.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, Photoshop Elements and Premiere Elements are different programs entirely. It sounds like Premiere Elements is crashing out on you.
If it's version 3 of Premiere Elements, then this document should help you:

  • Mystery Snafu Burning FCP Sequence to DVD

In burning a DVD for a client today, I discovered a heretofore undiscovered catastrophe: archive footage that was supplied by the client stuttered and looked horrible in my sequence when played on our commercial DVD player. It played fine on the computer.
Details: Sequence is DV-NTSC. Rendered at Apple ProRes 422; YUV material all rendered in high-precision YUV; Motion Filtering Quality BEST. Exported Quicktime Movie using Current Settings. Brought QT into Compressor using preset DVD: Best Quality 90 minutes. Brought video and audio into DVD Studio Pro standard settings. Built/Formatted. Everything looked good in Preview at every stage.
When I played the DVD on our commercial DVD player (older model), all the video looked fine except the archive video we got from the client. I am told this looks fine in a computer's DVD drive.
So, where did I go wrong? Might it have been during the capture process (it came on a DV tape)? If so, why does it look OK on the computer? And why does everything look fine in Preview, but not in the final burned disk?
Thanks for any light you can shed.

The manual was for Quantel's Harry NLE and referrred to a function "Inv Dom".
+"The Inv Dom (invert dominance) function inverts the field dominance of a clip. It can sometimes happen (for example due to the incorrect setting of a Telecine machine or VCR) that the fields composing a frame are incorrectly paired, giving a juddery effect when played. This box (see below) corrects this by re-pairing the fields the other way round."+
This function is also present in other Quantel products and repeated verbatim in the associated manuals. So it looks like they are talking about what Oliver calls field order on the Cow thread.
Clarification: The term +"This box"+ refers to the Quantel's GUI -a collection of rectangular boxes containing the name of the function available, occupying the lower 1/4 of the user's monitor.
[Example here|http://www.quantel.com/repository/images/productprimattesoftwarekeyer.jpg] if you really want to see it.

  • Trouble burning avi movies to DVD

im new to the world of apple. i tried burning a movie avi format that was downloaded online. when i tried to drag it to idvd it was showing the progress and "asset embeding" literaly a frame at a time this went on for about 3 hours until i canceled out. i downloaded isquint to convert the file and that has been going for about 2 hours its making progress and going just a little longer than real time. im still unsure what to do after that or if that will even work. If anyone could give me some pointers i would be greatful. or a quicker way to burn full length movies that will be playable on my tv dvd player. THanx
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   super drive

It sounds like something went wrong during the burning of the DVD, and that could be many things. Have you successfully burned a DVD before? You might want to try the iDVD forums to see if they have any hints.
Unfortunately, your 800 MHz G4 is going to be really slow doing video compression. There are some things that you could do like maxing out your memory and upgrading your video card (so that the CPU doesn't have to render your screen along with compressing video) but these still won't make your computer a blazing fast system for video (might not be worth the cost to you). You can also try making sure that you don't do anything else with the computer.
Since it's taking an exceedingly long time to try the compression and view the results, it would probably be advantageous to find a small QuickTime clip on the web and use it in your tests...like some trailers for instance. It's still going to take awhile to render, but at least then you'll get to the point of errors in 4 hours instead of 12 or 28. Once you're successful with a few QuickTime clips, then cut the .AVI clip down to a minute and see if that works. At this point, you'll be able to compare successes and determine where the problem might be.
At the point in the video where you notice the squares, press space to stop, then use the left and right arrow keys to examine frame by frame to see if it's just that your video card is having a problem handling the video when it's running full speed (if it's clear frame by frame, then it'll make a good DVD). I wouldn't change the settings in iSquint yet until we determine if there's a real quality problem.

  • Trouble burning with Alias and DVD studio pro

Thanks for taking a moment to read this.
I'm trying to make a DVD-rom and have everything linked up correctly, however, when I drag or copy my pdf documents into the right folder, it creates an alias of the files. This seems to be common when burning regular DVD's and the computer then simply burns the main files from the alias onto the disk, however, when I burn the dvd-rom through DVD Studio Pro, only the alias's copy to the folder and then the links within the dvd don't work(there is no data, only the alias for the documents)
    Any ideas are much appreciated?

It sounds like you have set up a "Burn" folder. You do not want a burn folder. Create a regular folder. Drag everything you want on your DVD into that folder (or copy everything you want into that folder by Option–dragging the file into the folder.) Then in DVD SP click on your disc in the Outline then look at your Inspector. In the DVD-ROM section, select the folder that you have set up.

  • I have been having trouble burning a DVD.

I have been having trouble burning a DVD.  It goes through all the steps until it gets to the multiplexing "burn" step and then with 3 minutes left the disk pops out.  The disk is left empty and an error comes up.  I have been able to burn DVD's before, so this is frustrating.

Well - not correct answer as I understands it - This is a very complex question. In my case I'de put a button just touching the TV-Safe area boarder. Moving it a minute inside and the Error disappeared.
BUT - there are so many other things that I collected a long long list on this - read and see if You find help here.
    Multiplexing Error
    PART One.
Use of strange video/audio material eg .avi, .wmv, .mp3 etc.
    I only use.
Video - StreamingDV (miniDV tape via FireWire) and
Audio = .aiff (as on audio-CDs) (else coverted to this .aff 48KHz)
    Chapters !
    A.    Using strange letters in video project name eg +,/; etc. keep to a-z and 0-9 strange letters in project name eg +
as described by Donnyboy69.  Does the title of your project have any symbols or decimal points in it. If so, that is why you are getting the error. I had a project that had a + sign which caused the same problem. I renamed it without the symbol and low and behold, it worked.
    B.    Location of Chapters
    • Can’t be at start or end of movie (Skip first/start one - iDVD sets this by it self. At the End - no need)
    • Not in a transition (or within 2-3 seconds from it)
Important when from iMovie HD6 or previous - Now also observed when using FCE 4
    PART Two.
    from Robert Modero.
"Multiplexing Error. Problem during initialization of tracks"
Simply remember to add subtitles to your Quicktime files and menu buttons.
Once I did that, I was back in business.

Do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on grey background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
I always makes a DiskImage first and test this so that it runs OK
I use only - Verbatim DVDs
    I use only - DVD-R
I burn at an as slow speed possibly eg x1
    This gives good DVDs
    PART Three.
    Multiplex Error
    Chuck, Chicago 2/7/2009.
Back again. Here is what I have found to work. I also have and use a LaCie DVD-R/RW DL external drive and a LaCie external hard drive as well. Since yesterday I have tried a few ways to burn a themed iDVD project having four 56 minute movies on it, amounting to 226 minutes onto a DVD DL disc, capacity 240 minutes. Apple tech support really didn't know what to do but gave me a very good tip. I had two options left. Apple tech support's tip was to try disc image. One of the replies on a thread with this subject said not to, but my experience today is good. Put your project onto "Burn to disc image," under "iDVD, file." Yesterday encoding took me 23 1/2 hours. Overnight for iDVD disc image, encoding took 21 1/2 hours (again) while I slept. This morning I tried to copy/burn disc image to a DVD with Roxio Toast 7, and it stopped near the end of the burn with some kind of "error" message. So then I tried Utilities> Disc Utility> Burn icon, and followed it through. Be sure to click the DVD DL drive in the window "Burn disc in.". I had one other problem though. At the end of a 46 minute copy, it started to verify, and at the end of verify it rejected the burn. So I tried again, and when "verify" appeared, I clicked on "Skip." The disc finished burning and is doing fine and well. A long and tortuous process, but at last something works. I made several additional copies using Disc Utility. Best wishes. Chuck, Chicago.
    2. Disconnect any other external devices not absolutly needed.
eg external USB/USB2 hard disks, other FW hard disks etc.

(Not a 'guy' but I will answer!)
First, I do not think that mixing widescreen and standard makes a difference in iDVD.
Second, you should use a better brand of DVD disk. Also, many of us have experienced fewer problems on playback with DVD-R disks. Recommended brands here are Verbatim, Maxell and Taio Yuden. Memorex and TDK are not consistent and may not give you a correct burn. They apparently have fewer layers in the composition of the disk. I have always used Verbatim DVD-R disks and have not had any burn problems.
Also, choose a slower burn speed, 4x or less.
Third, to determine if the iDVD project will burn properly, create a disk image file (from within iDVD, go File->Save as Disk Image) and test it. Mount the disk image and then open DVD Player (in Applications) and view your project. If it plays correctly, you can then burn the actual DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility.

I did everything I've seen suggested, but a friend (who used to be an Apple Genius) suggested that I do a safe reboot (by holding down the shift key until you see the spinning gear on grey background, then release, then restart when your start-up screen appears).
It worked, and I got a clean burn from iDVD.
Hopefully this can help other people.

Well, I finally got it, and it was odd enough to post here incase anyone looks this topic up again. Many things were tried, including burning the uneditited film, the edited film without titles and chapter markers, abbreviating the chapter markers in case length was the issue (remember the old iMovie used to truncate them when moving to iDVD?). In the process, I noticed that one, and only one, chapter marker was on the same line as the title marker. All the others were on the line above. The only way I seemed able to change that was to clip a few seconds of film. After that last clip, the offending marker took a place on the line above, as were all the others. That run published, compiled completely and burned. That's one for the books.
    *One user more writes*
To add my experience with Multiplex Errors using iDVD (7.0.4), I recently created two iDVD projects
Video from both passed from FCE 4.01 with chapters
One project worked fine in creating disk image file
    The other gave Multiplex Errors
I tried suggestions to remove special characters and no chapter marks at beginning, but nothing worked
Note that I've used iDVD for dozens of projects and this is first time I've run into Multiplex Errors
Anyway, for problem project, I tried an experiment where I removed all chapters in FCE and passed to new iDVD project
    This time multiplex errors gone
So had something to do with chapters
So now I tried numerous experiments to remove individual chapters and try again creating disk image with new iDVD project
After numerous trys, I was able to narrow problem down to 1 "Bad" chapter mark
That is, when I left the "bad" chapter in my FCE project and passed to iDVD, iDVD gave multiplex error
When I removed "bad" chapter mark (and others in), no mulitplex error
As a final experiment, I moved "bad" chapter mark about 5-10 secs beyond original point and passed to iDVD, the multiplex errors now magically went away and I was able to finally create my disk image.
I have no idea why this worked, but thought I'd mention here in case someone else runs into similar problem.

In addition to Bengt's fine advice, burning errors can occur if you have located any of your menu buttons wholly or partly outside of the safe TV viewing area. Go to your main project menu, then click on View/Show TV Safe Area, to check. Drag into the safe viewing area any buttons that are outside the safe viewing area.
    Russ One - suggest this
Multiplexer Error-There was an error during muxing preparation
One thing that worked for me was to export the video w/o chapter markers as a self contained movie (thereby not loosing the edits & etc). Then make a new FCE project and import that movie into a new sequence and add the chapter markers. I've used "-", "&" and "," with no problem in the chapter names. Removing the markers or exporting without them did solve the problem but renaming them with just numbers 1,2,3....5, did not solve the problem and since this problem seems to happen with with iMovie as well, it would suggest the problem is in the video or audio and in combination with the chapter markers iDVD just can't handle it. The only other possibility is that both iMovie and FCE share the same or similar chapter marker code that some how is corrupting the markers.

  • Trouble burning dvd...message: playback may be disabled

i'm having trouble burning dvd through  - share - then checking blue ray box and burning it as AVCHD. i've done it before by following these same steps but this time the dvd player gives me the the playback mabe be disabled message, any suggestions...

no, i'm not trying to burn a blue-ray disc, it's just a box in a burn window that you check even when you're burning regular dvd, so it'll come out as avchd. anyway for some reason i can't get it to work.

  • I have an '09 15" mac book pro running os x mavericks and I'm having trouble burning a dvd.

I have an '09 15" mac book pro running os x mavericks and I'm having trouble burning a dvd. In iMovie, I sent my movie to file and then to iDVD to burn a copy. It was saved in Documents. When I went to iDVD, the thumbnail image of the movie to be burned was faded and inoperable. What's going on now?

Did you export the movie out of iMovie as 480p?  Next just drag the movie from the Documents folder into the iDVD menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Lastly follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

Anthony, thank you very much - this works, though I thought I had tried your process previously without success. I've tried so many things who knows. I've had zero luck going with the Send to Compressor or Export Using Compressor Settings under the Share menu. I'm also finding Compressor 4 to be a real dog on my system even though I have a brand new quad core machine with 8G of RAM. Prior to receiving your post I did come up with a different work process. Using Export Movie from FCP X and then loading the result in Compressor 3 works flawlessly. Thanks again!

  • Trouble burning a DVD using AVCHD format

I recently completed about a 19 minute video project (photos and short video clips), and I was able to burn it to a DVD at standard quality using Premiere Elements 10.  When I try to burn to AVCHD, though, I get an error just before it's ready to start burning.  It encodes all of the media and just switches to the Burn menu when "Error" pops up.  There isn't any other explanation.  I've also tried to burn to a folder and I get the same result.
I've used Premiere Elements 10 for 4 years doing this same type of project, and I've been able to burn to AVCHD successfully in the past.  Any ideas why it's no longer working?
Computer specs:  Dell Inspiron 3847 desktop, i5 processor, 12 GB RAM, 1 TB hard drive w/ 770 GB free.
    I appreciate any help.

Let us go through the drill of deleting the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file, and, if that does not work, then the hold 10.0 Folder in which it exists.

and in the 10.0 Folder is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then you delete the whole 10.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Be sure to be working with Folder Option Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives enabled so that you can see the complete path cited. The path to Folder Options starts with File Explorer in Windows 8.1 64 bit.

  • Having trouble burning my iPhone videos to DVD

I have a bunch of videos that I have taken wih my iPhone 4S.  I put them on my hp laptop and they play just fine when you want to watch them on the computer.  When I tried to burn them to a DVD to play on my TV, the DVD player said NO Data.  When I tried to play the DVD in my computer, the video started, but it was very jumpy and didn't play right.  I tried to burn the DVD at 8X and 3X speed and neither worked.  Anyone have any thoughts?

Can your videos play in iTunes correctly? If yes, you can use a program to convert your videos to the DVD format, then use the iDVD to burn them to a DVD. use mpeg streamclip to convert the movie file to mp4, then burn to dvd, thats a cheap and easy way to do it, not much loss of quality, no ones expecting avatar sequences to be going on, but keep the original files on a HDD and maybe when you have  video editing software you can do something nice and proper.
I remember that Apple iDVD software can burn video to a DVD on Mac, but before that you need to transfer iPhone 4S video to your computer with iPhone transfer for Mac. After that, open the iDVD and directly import your video from iPhone 4S to iDVD for burning.

  • Having trouble burning DVD-R DL... can you help?

    Hello, again, folks.
People have been so nice to me here since I got my new MacBook Pro (late 2011) and am now running Lion (something I couldn't do with my old MacBook Pro (early 2006). So here's a new problem and I hope there will be some kind folks who will help me with a solution.
Since 2002 I have been burning back-ups of all sorts of files to DVD. Sometimes I just use the Finder, sometimes I have used Toast.
I am currently using both the Finder burn and Toast Titanium 11.05 to try to burn data disks using DVD-R DL disks. I've only tried four thus far but each time the back-up has failed: twice using the Finder and twice using TT. TT will burn to 99% and then just stop. The Finder method will seem to be chugging along fine but, by the end of the burn, it will present me with an error message (and I number - which I have not written down: if that error # will help, I'll 'waste' another disk to get it).
I'm wondering if it's a hardware, software or media issue. I have used both Memorex and Verbatim disks, so I don't know if it's the media or not.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I don't mind which method I use (although I really prefer Toast for some reason - maybe because I paid so much for it), I just want to be able to back-up my data as I've been doing for the past ten years.
    Thanks in advance,
    Clinton

Got here from your link Clinton!
Sig makes an important point. There is no guarantee that the brand of media favoured by one DVD burner will be equally succesfull in another.
If you have the only one on the planet that likes Memorex, then stick with it!
For the rest of us there are the brands mentioned in your other thread!
