Trouble capturing waveform from PXI-4472

I'm really a very green newbie at this stuff, so bear with me...
I've got a PXI-4472 data acquisition board and a PXI-5411 waveform generator. I've connected the arbitrary out of the 5411 to the channel 0 in on the 4472. An external oscilloscope shows a 1v-amplitude sine wave being generated.
I created a very simple VI to show what the 4472 is capturing. It connects a NI-DAQ channel I generated to the standard "AI Acquire Waveform.vi", then out to a Waveform Chart, all within a while loop with a Stop button. Problem is, all the waveform chart seems to be showing is the running average of the waveform instead of the form itself (solid line, a tad above zero).
I can hook the 4472 input channel up to a DC-out power supply, a
nd when I vary the voltage, the waveform chart changes as well.
So my question (whew!): What's wrong here that's not allowing me to capture a waveform from the 4472 (in turn from the 5411) and display it on my waveform chart?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Never mind.... it was a sample rate problem. I upped the sample rate and it came out ok.

  • Trouble capturing video from VHS via Analogue to DV converter

I use Final Cut Express 1.0.1 and I've always been able to capture video from VHS via a Director's Cut analogue to DV converter box. Today it keeps freezing on me. I've tried force quit, logged off and back on again and even re-started the computer. I've got plenty of space on my two hard drives (125GB free on main drive and 85.42GB on my scratch disk).
I'm sure I've set the rest up correctly (composite cable from VHS to DV convertor box set to output and connected to input slots on box, and DV box set to capture). The box is correctly connected to the Mac.
I've also logged on using another user's account to see if the same problem occurs, and it does. I believe this means that dumping the my preference file won't help, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Any ideas how to stop this freezing on me would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Last bit of help from Martin may have some mileage in it as far as excluding hidden problems with the drive you are capturing too.
Have been reading into the requirements for the hard disc and it does make it clear having a separate one like you have is almost a requirement because of the work it does. Would it be worth trying a small capture to your system disc. If it helps that is how I am working at the moment so it doesn't appear to be instant fireworks if you do use this one but give it some thought first...
On the firewire port side of things I have seen some unexplained connection issues on this front which were cured by shutting things down, unplugging and then beginning again. Take it System Profile didn't yield anything?
Now I got back in front of my Mac it appears Quicktime Pro will allow capture from an attached device but appreciate you may not have the Pro bit, iMovie should be as good a test.

  • I have a trouble reading signal from PXI-6251

When I want to capture data coming from a loadcell, it shows a graph which has maximum value of 10.5v and the real value is at the minimum. This happens frequently and the graph jumps from real value to 10.5v and then back again to real value. A sample screenshot is shown below, can anybody tell me what is the problem. Also it should be noted that DAQ and board have already been checked with another setup and they work very well so I'm pretty sure that the problem is on developer side!
    Regards,

Are you performing any processing on your data?  Are you performing a continuous or finite acquisition?  Do you see this behavior in the Test Panel as well?  How is your load cell wired?  Typically load cells need external excitation.  If this is the case for your load cell, what is providing the excitation?  If this is a bridge-based sensor, then this document would be good to review.  Hopefully this helps!

Hit the stars.............. sky is not the limit.

There are a lot of shipping examples for DAQmx. Once you open the example finder (Help>Find Examples), use the 'hardware' listbox at the bottom to find all of the examples that pertain to a 4472.

  • Capture Video from Panasonic AG-HMC40

I am having trouble capturing video from my camera - Panasonic AG-HMC40 HD camera
I keep getting a message:  Capture Device Offline.
I am able to capture from iMovie and Final Cut X....
Does anyone know the correct capture settings?

You don't have to capture. You ingest.
IE: Copy files from your camera memory card onto your hard drive using the media browser.
See extract from Adobe Help below:
Import assets from file-based sources with Media Browser
You can import assets into Premiere Pro directly from tapeless media. However, it is more efficient to transfer tapeless media contents to a hard disk before importing. Also, playback performance is much better from a dedicated internal hard drive or RAID than from a camera or memory card reader.
Use the Media Browser, instead of File > Import, to import files from tapeless sources. The Media Browser assembles the relevant files into coherent clips, and does not import irrelevant non-media files sometimes found in the folders of tapeless media.
(Optional) Transfer the entire contents of one or more P2 cards, Sony Compact Flash cards, XDCAM media, XDCAM EX SxS cards, hard disk camcorders, DVDs, or AVCHD media to a hard disk. For information about transferring these media, see About transferring files.
Note:  For XDCAM EX, copy the entire BPAV folder and its contents, not just one MP4 file at a time.
If the Media Browser is not already open, select Window > Media Browser. Note:  You can dock or group the Media Browser like any other panel in Premiere Pro.
Browse to the folder containing the media files. The Media Browser shows a thumbnail or icon (depending on the format) and shot name for each shot in the folder. The Media Browser automatically aggregates spanned clips and shot metadata from the subfolders into single clips for any of these formats. The Media Browser shows different sets of metadata for different formats.
(Optional) To preview a shot before importing it, double-click the shot in the Media Browser.  Premiere Pro plays the clip in the Source Monitor without importing it into the Project panel.
Either select File > Import From Browser, drag clips from the Media Browser into the Project panel, or drag clips from the Media Browser into a timeline.
The asset or assets are imported into the Project panel as whole clips.

  • Need advice on best way to acquire multiple vibration waveforms from a PXI-4472 board

I'm using a PXI-4472 board to acquire vibration data from 8 proximity probes, each with different scaling. Confused as to best approach to achieve this given all the options with MAX, LabView and its Sound & Vibration toolset scaling. Reading other posts, it appears that 24 bit acquisition also requires some special treatment.
This acquisition needs to be done continuously.
As an additional side note, I will eventually need to synchronize these channels with the channels on 2 other 4472 boards.
Any advice on how to use MAX in combination with LabView's AI CONFIG, START, READ, CLEAR and scaling
for this application would be greatly appreciated.
    All the best,
    Hunter

    Hello Hunter --
    In regards to your questions...
For scaling, I would recommend using either MAX or the Sound and Vibration Toolset (SVT) scaling, but not both together. The SVT is a bit more flexible, and in general I prefer that. One other thing to keep in mind about MAX is that virtual channels for accelerometers and microphones provide an option to control IEPE excitation, but in fact this can only be set from LabVIEW for the 4472.
24 bit acquisition does not require any special treatment if you are only reading the scaled (i.e. voltage or engineering unit) data. If you use the binary array option for AI read, you will only receive the top 16 bits.
If you use the SVT scaling, you should not worry about MAX at all. If you you do define virt
ual channels in MAX for scaling, you should simply wire a channel array with those channel names into AI Config. Other than this, what you do in MAX should not change how you write the LabVIEW code.
Please see the attached example for synchronizing PXI-4472s.
    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply Tom. (BTW I'm not the original poster.)
You are correct- It is a USB drive formatted FAT 32 . After my original post, I erased the drive and started over with a clean slate. This was successful for tape one (about 60 minutes). About twenty minutes into tape two though, it was deja vu all over again. FC froze, I force quit, and lost all of what I had captured from tape one in the process. I unsuccessfully tried to recapture tape one. Same problem again.
Although this is the first time I've tried to capture through FC onto an external drive, I've got three other USB drives full of video I've captured from VHS with the same computer through a DV encoder. When you say USB is not supported by Apple for video applications, does that mean video editing applications? As for complete information, apologies but I'm not exactly sure what other info. you mean. Please let me know. Thanks again. I appreciate the time.

  • How could I route 20 channals via a PXI-2501 to ch0 on a PXI-4472

I would like to use a PXI-4472 card to scan 20 signals. For this purpose I have a PXI-2501 which can be used to multiplex the 20 signals to, say, ch0 on the PXI-4472. I would like to know how can I scan each channel with a sampling freq of 1000S/s? Is it possible to synchronize the sampling and the switching?

    Ali,
It will not be possible to hardware time the two boards due to the oversampling of the 4472. There are no hardware passed signals present that would correctly align the switch with the individual sampling of the 4472. As a result, it would be necessary to do this in software...Switch, take readings from the 4472, Switch, etc.

  • Trouble capturing HD media ...

I am having trouble capturing HD media from my Sony HVR-Z1E! Three months previous I had captured 18 hours of HD media with no problems. Presently when trying to capture FCE engages the camera into play but the capture preview window remains black with the message “cueing tape”. The tape keeps playing but nothing else happens.
    Any ideas?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I've gotten this suggestion from a lot of different places, but it doesn't help me if I ever delete my captured footage and then need to reedit. If I go the "Capture Now" route will the program remember where the clips belong in my timeline or can I expect to have to start from scratch if I ever delete my footage (which is likely, since HDV takes up quite a bit of space)?
Also any suggestions on how to avoid a non "I" frame? Sometimes all it takes is for me sitting there telling it to capture again and again before it finally sticks.

  • FCE4 im having trouble capturing

im having a lot of trouble capturing my footage from a miniDv using the firewire.
my laptop isnt noticing the camera attached to it and therefore i cant capture anything.
I know this is vague but i use this software at college but i have had nothing but trouble with it since i bought it.

Please give your full system specifications, what computer, what drives, what camera or deck, how everything's connected, what settings are on the media, what settings you're using in Final Cut, and finally what version of the software, of the OS, and of QuickTime you are using.

  • Above-High-Level Triggering Mode with PXI-4472

In the PXI-4472 User's manual (April 2003 edition), Figure 3-9 shows a trigger that is active when an analog input is above a specified high Value. To which trigger is this figure referring? Also, I have seen the Configure_HW_Analog_Trigger function but do not see a VI that accomodates this function. I would like access to this trigger that is always high when the analog input is above a certain level.

These triggers are analog level triggers that are taken directly from one of the analog input channels. In LabVIEW, the DAQmx Trigger.vi can be configured to the trigger type that you need. In the shipping examples (Help >> Find Examples) for LabVIEW, a good example to look at would be Acq&Graph Voltage Int Clock Analog Start.vi.
For Traditional DAQ, the AI Start.vi is used to configure the trigger. The example Cont Acq&Graph(buffered) Hard A-Trig.vi is a good referrence for that. Hope this helps.

  • Capturing directly from camera

I'm using Premiere Pro and I'm having trouble capturing video directly from my camera. I have all the proper connections and the video preview shows up in the capture window, but when I click the record button, it gives me a recorder error saying "Can't find capture inpoint. Try increasing preroll." I have tried increasing the preroll to no avail. I have also tried capturing from the camera using a tape in VCR mode, using it like a tape deck, and I get the same error. Any ideas?

From what camera with what connection with which sequence settings on which OS with which version of PR, to just name a few of the missing pieces of info.
