Trouble changing account picture

I'm having some trouble with the "Picture" tab in the "Accounts" system preference.
Problem #1: It allows me to make changes whether the lock is open or closed.
Problem #2: If I change the picture using the "Edit..." button, whether the lock is open or closed, the change doesn't stick. When I change to another tab and change back, the old picture is there. The only way to make a change that sticks is to select a picture from the Apple Pictures provided.
Is this a bug in the software, something screwy on my system, or something I'm doing incorrectly?

It looks like the problem was a permissions problem. I had this problem when I did a User Migration to a new computer.
Here's how to fix the problem:
1. Create a new account (I created one called "Temp")
2. Make sure "Allow user to administer this computer" is checked for this new Temp user.
3. Login using the new Temp user.
4. Go into System Preferences > Accounts and select the account that is giving you problems. (You may have to click the unlock icon first)
5. Choose the Picture tab for the problem account and click on the "Edit..." button.
6. If you have an iSight camera, click "Take a Video Snapshot" or choose a photo if you do not have an iSight. DO NOT choose a picture from the Recent Pictures drop down.
7. Click on the Set button. This temporary picture should save correctly.
8. Logout of your Temp account and log back into your real account.
9. You should now be able to save your picture changes. Select a picture and see if it works.
10. Remove your Temp account by selecting the Temp account in the list and click on the negative button.

• Cannot change account picture after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard I cannot change account picture anymore.
The box which is supposed to contain picture previews just says "No items".
Screenshot attached:
This is not limited to a particular account, trying to change the picture within any account leads to this problem.
Is there any solution for the issue?
Thank you in advance.

Thank you for the answer.
Sure I can drag a photo to the users profile and it works but those Default ones were quite useful for having no mess with setting custom picture.
MacBook Pro with same Snow Leopard -> Mountain Lion upgrade did not have such issue.

• Prevent from changing account picture

Good day!
Is it possible to prevent windows domain users from changing their account picture?

Most schools are assigned an Apple representative, who should be able to supply you with the proper tools/software to do so.

this says it all..

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Contact Apple through iTunes Store Support, and explain that you have forgotten your 3 security questions, that you can reset your password, but doing so doesn't reset your security questions.
Remember, support will receive hundreds, if not thousands of requests per day, some from people trying it on, others with little explanation and others that are written extremely poorly. Take the time to explain your situation properly, be precise and concise, brief but comprehensive.

The default user account picture is stored here.
C:\programdata\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\user.bmp
It should just be a matter have copying the picture you want to that location and over writing what is there.
or....
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\User Accounts\Apply the default user logon picture to all users
You can also configure this by a registry setting;
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
UseDefaultTile = 1
The picture that you configure, will not be loaded until the user account will actually be created on the pc. Meaning the first time a >new< user will log on to a pc, they will have no picture shown at all using their login screen (this is default
behavior). Same will occur if you enable the policy don't display last user name. However, once they log in the picture will be shown in the start menu, and if they lock their pc the image will also be shown

• Can't Change Lock Screen Background Image and User Account Picture in Windows 8.1.

I am running Windows8.1 Single Language with windows activated. Upgraded from Window 8 to Windows 8.1.
Lenovo Y410p.

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT750M 2GB .
I tried all methods that I found on web included :

2. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-desktop/lockscreen-issues-on-windows-81/c51f570a-7a69-4e92-8348-3ebbed778592
3. I deleted the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\SystemData file and folder
4. I restored the Libraries Features.
5. I run SFC / Scannow 3 times but get no error.
6. I created a new local account but the same problem shows up. (I'm using live for main account.)
Now, Please tell me what should I do, Thanks.

Hi,
First of all, please run the command slmgr.vbs /dlv
After that, check the License status if it is licensed.
Is there any error message when you couldn't change lock background or this option just grey out?

• Getting Problem In Changing The Account Picture.

No button is working. All the buttons on the screen are friezed. I have tried lot of ways but nothing is working.

Hi,
For this issue, the only thing I can think now is that your version of Windows isn't activated correctly.
Can you check Control Panel\System and Security\Action Center\Windows Activation
You can get here by right clicking in the lower left hand corner, choosing "System" then clicking "View details in Windows Activation"
Meanwhile, please let us know your account. Local account or Microsoft account?
If your system has been activated, and then the issue still persists, please try using Microsoft account to change the account picture.

• I cannot seem to change my account picture on OS 10.8. There is not option to "edit picture"

Under system preferences > users and groups, i click on my account picture but there is no "edit picture" selectable. I can only choose the max default pictures or take a snapshot. How do I go about doing it? Is this a bug? Thanks!
Norm

Not sure what you think you mean by "edit".
You can drang-and-drop a new picture into the well.
You can hit the Delete key to remove the pictiure after clicking on it.
You can click the downward pointing arrow, choose Recent, and then press the pencil button to change the zoom or centeringi of the existing picture.

• Change user account picture

I have just purchased a Toshiba P755 and have tried to change the user account picture. This has turned out to be a major problem. I have created an additional administrator account to fix the problem, but even this did not work. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
The problem is, when I select a new user account picture and select the change picture option, I get an error message: "This action cannot be performed due to an account restriction. Please contact your administrator."
Unfortunately, I am the administrator.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Solved!
Go to Solution.

I have never been able to change the picture. ... I was able to change it in Safe Mode.
Maybe something you added before you first tried.
Can you do it after booting clean?
1. Open the System Configuration utility (msconfig.exe).
2. On the General tab, click Selective startup and clear the Load startup items check box.
3. On the Services tab, click the Hide all Microsoft services check box and click Disable all.
4. OK out and restart the computer.

• Changing the Guest Account Picture

Someone using a guest account was playing with Photobooth and changed the Account Picture for the Guest Account in Leopard. I don't know how to change it back to the default picture, any ideas?

I'm still not caught up with the "DirectoryServices" form of user records that are now the default in "Leopard", but there are two properties that might be related to the user picture in the "login window". One is 'Picture' and the other is 'JPEGPhoto', of which the latter isn't present in every user record so I would suspect that one.
While logged in to an "admin" account, try launching "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering this command:

sudo /usr/bin/dscl . -delete /users/Guest JPEGPhoto

Be careful entering the command since a space in the wrong place could delete the entire "Guest" account, or even wipe out all user records. Enter the "admin" user's password at the prompt (for security reasons, the keystrokes won't appear in the window - just press the "return" key when done).

• Account picture changes due to iCloud

I enabled iCloud om my iMac for my account and my wife's account. This keeps our address books in sync, which is awesome. Today however I noticed that my wife's account had my picture. Quite confusing, so I changed it back to her photo. A few hours later, again my mugshot shows above her name. I suspect iCloud is syncing the me card, and sets the picture of the me card as to OS X account picture. The only work around I've found is to remove the me card, and not assign a new me card. How can I have a me card and not sync the OS X account picture?

Go to https://getsupport.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Apple ID account Security'.
Your signature says you have 10.5.5 (Leopard) - this seems unlikely if you are using iCloud. If it's not correct please update it as the wrong system can lead to confusion when answers are different depending on the system.
