Trouble coming to BT

Hi all this is my story so far . It all started on sep 27 my mother in law who is old and has heart troubles and doesn't deal with stress very well ask me to arrange her bb&calls from talktalk to bt we had the mac code so i done it on line i was giving a activation date 4oct . it past no change over so rang up on the 5oct was told sorry it had not went through i will have to reorder . Got a new date for 20 oct .on the 20 oct the phone was activated but no bb then i got a call on the 21 oct to say they could  not  go ahead with the bb as the mac code had run out so i got a new one and phoned it in but was told they will have to cancel my order and re order in 24 hour's . so i reluctantly accepted this . But later on that day my mother in laws phone was cut off .so i one again phoned up and was told sorry but I don't no why the phone was cut off Then I was told I will have to order again and she will lose her old phone number this is causing her more stress than when her husband died of cancer last year .we have a new date phone 27 oct bb 29 oct she has been without a phone for 5days . The sale dep did say we can request her old number back when phone is activated if eneyone one can confirm this I woud be grateful I will let you no how I get on fingers x thank you.

Hi and welcome to the forum
Yes you should be able to request the old number, normally after a few days as the number needs to be released from the original supplier, in this case talk talk.
Just call the service dept on 0800 800 150, although it could take a few more days once the order has progressed for it to become active

  • I have a generation 1 IPad, having trouble coming on after charge.

    I have  a generation 1 IPad, everytime the kids let it die I have trouble getting it to start back up. I charge it for hours and when I come back to it the low battery image comes up. If I unplug it the needs charged image comes up. This has been going on for the passed  six to ten months. I have been able to keep trying both pluged in and unpluged to get it to come on. I try just the power button, both power and home for 30 sec. plug it in to the computer and do it. everytime I have been able to get it to come on. When it does come on it is fully charged. It runs great for a Gen 1 that is 3 years old. I tell the kids to make sure they are charging it and not lettting it die, but they are kids.  So again today I have a die IPad and everything I try is not working. Any ideas on how I can get this thing to work and maybe not have to go through this again.

    Hello, BOBBRLT.
    Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
    Make sure the device is being charged via an Apple branded cable and USB power adapter.  If these are being used to charge the device with no results, see the information in the article below.

  • Monitor having trouble coming on.

    I have a G5 tower and I'm having problems with the monitor not coming on. What happens is when I'm away from the computer for long enough, it goes to sleep and in the past I would just click on the mouse to wake it up. So now the monitor isn't waking up. I've tried hitting the power on off and jolted it back to life. This usually works, although now it isn't. Can someone tell me what is going on and how I should deal with/fix it?

    Hi Kris,
    Others with Power Mac G5 towers with this problem have found resetting the SMU will solve the problem. To reset the SMU on your Power Mac G5 see:

    hope that helps and post back with any further comments or questions,

  • Display issue coming out of sleep (w/ external display)

    Hey everyone,
    I've a MacBook Pro with Retina display. running 10.8.2 (and Win7 x64, via Bootcamp).
    I somtimes experience trouble coming out of sleep with no external display connected, if the MacBook was connected to an external display when I sent it to sleep and the integrated display's brightness was turned all the way down. Basically, the MacBook's integrated display won't light up. I then need to hold down the power button until the machine powers off, and start it up again. Only then will the display come on, and the machine start normally.
    I've been observing this with both an external Thunderbolt Display, and a TV connected through the HDMI port. I don't think this is a Mac OS issue, as I've seen similar behavior on this same machine, running Windows, under Bootcamp.
    An example scenario: I'll be using the Thunderbolt Display, or watching a movie on my TV, with the integrated display's brightness turned all the way down, and then, while the display is still connected, I will close the lid - The machine will go to sleep. I will then come the next day, and while the computer is asleep, disconnect the external display, and open the lid. The MacBook's integrated display will not light up, the brightness keys will not respond, and I will need to force-shutdown the machine, and start it again - it will then start up, and usually fall back to the lowest display resolution setting (even though I always use much higher resolutions on both the integrated and external displays).
    I'm guessing this is happening because the computer is expecting the external display that was connected to it, during its last operation, to still be available, and when it's not - it panics!
    Also, I had times where this happened, and a force-shutdown would not do the trick. I had to actually connect back to the external display, wait for the machine to start normally, take the integrated display's brightness back up, and disconnect the external display. The machine would then resume normal operation, and I would be able to disconnect the external display and work on the integrated display.
    Has anyone else experienced this, or anything similar?

    There we go. Here's the complete Console report, up until the reboot, which fixed things. I can't make anything out of this, but perhaps someone else can.

  • New Member / Video Card Choice Question

    New CS4 Production Premium User Here.
    I am building a computer system specifically for Video Editing and production for use with Premier CS4 & Sony Vegas.. Have been doing my usual amount of Over Research here and other places but have a series of issues I am having a little trouble coming to grips with.
    I have been into computer editing game for a long time but strictly in the Audio Recording /Mixing area /..
    Video is a new interest which has me hooked / Im also a Gear Junkie so I have to watch it. 
    I will probably be back with a couple more topics but to keep this thread simple /
    My first post question is the topic of Video cards: Adobes Hardware compatibility list seems a little out dated. ?
    The system does not have to be an ultimate gaming rig as I am not into that / just SD & HD Video editing & 3d effects.. I need a card which will do what is needed / works well with Premier CS4 / Is not too loud fan wise / can run 24/5 and not overheat.
    I also will need the ability to monitor on a HD TV with a good sound monitoring system / Midas / Bryston / Dynaudio etc;
    I was considering either of the following / from lowest price to highest.
    ASUS GeForce 9600GT Silent 650MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    ASUS GeForce 9800GT Matrix 612MHZ 512MB 1.8GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    ASUS GeForce 9800GTX+ Dk 740MHZ 512MB 2.3GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV Out
    Questions:
    Is a 512mb card sufficient?
    Will all of the above do what is needed for my purpose?
    What about noise of heat issues.
    My system could be running close to 24/5 at times.
    Have not made a final decision on all components but will probably basically start of like this.
    Vista 64 Bit/OS
    Core I7 940
    Asus Rampage 2 Extreme or a plain P6T
    Antec 1200 Case / For now I will leave out the hard drives and other things on my list.
    My builder suggests to stick with ASUS Video Cards because he has the fastest warranty replacement service on his end for ASUS products / plus I am a total ASUS Motherboard guy with years satisfied experiences.. (in Audio setups).
    Any feedback or comments on the above will be appreciated.
    Thanks / Orion

    Thanks Members for the Feedback:
    I am trying to stick just to the Video Card Issues so the topic does not get all over the map / Raid issues have already been researched & I might have a question about that later in another thread.
    Witha the video card issue I am just trying to see if I can get a reply which the majority of users agree upon / not an easy task & that is were my confused state of topic started.
    b Keith
    It seems what you have said about QUADRO cards is the most agreed upon overall from my last three months of research at various locations / The cost is extreme for these cards & I was just trying to determime if I realy needed to go that far : >$2,000.00 and up.
    just for the Graphics card..
    Perhaps I should start of with one of the cards I first mentioned which are dirt cheep compared to the Quadro series and replace it when I have arrived at the point where my shills are beyond my hardware limitations.
    b Charles & Jim.
    Thanks for the reference to the . >ASUS GeForce 9800GTX+ Dk 740MHZ 512MB 2.3GHZ DDR3< I was thinking this might be the best to start with / except for the reported could be problems of / Noise / card size and Heat issues if running 24/5?
    Other issues you have stated also seem to be agreed upon from mny sources as well / which is why I am considering perhaps not going Raid "o" from the start / perhaps Raid 5.. / or No Raid until I see If realy need it for my own personal use level.
    b conclusion to this point in the game:
    Looks like If I do a top notch system following all the higher end recomendations it will cost me over $10,000.00 (if I include a capture card / raid card (Areca 1220 or 1240(don't want to get into that topic just yet)& all the extras... This is about double the investment I had planned as this is basically a serious hobby not a business venture. Plus we have not included another $6,000.00 for a half decent peosumer HD camera with a few extras. I was trying to keep the entire setup to 8 to 10 grand total.. Not including the software / so this looks like wishfull thinking at best / Ho Ho.
    b remember / unfortunately my pricing reflects Canadian $$ which includes a 25% hike in pricing because our government wants the loonie (Good Name) low valued so businesses can export our products at built in 25% Sale Pricing.
    Perhaps,we wont get into that topic/please, but I just couldn't resist / when I start thinking about government issues (anywhere in this world) I tend to go off the deep end as part of why I am going into this video thing is to document the destruction of our environment & the entire democratic process, which is a total farce in my neck of the woods. Nuff Said..
    Again Thanks for the input and I will keep watching and perhaps cover another topic later / my goal is to place an order for a build within the next 10 days of so.

  • Help Creating a Graph (of sorts) for Professional Driver Daily Logs

    Hey All!
    I'm working on a project for myself, that could go commercial if it gets as good as I'm hoping it will. This application (which I'm calling Truck Manager) will manage income and expenses, help plan trips, track trip/load information and do the US-MCSA/DOT regulated Driver's Daily Log. This log is a line graph that runs from midnight to midnight and has four lines: (1) Off Duty; (2) Sleeper Berth; (3) On Duty, Driving; and (4) On Duty, Not Driving. If anyone needs to see a paper form of this log book, just ask and I'll scan in one of my copies and post.
    Anyway, I'm using J2D to handle the log book "pages" and have already gotten the grid laid out just fine...it runs from midnight to midnight and is broken into 15-minute increments, with the four required lines described above. Now that I have that done, I've hit a logic block that is keeping me from figuring out the best and/or simplest way to log the status changes and time lines. For example, let's say that I work the following day:
    Midnight until 06:00 == off duty
    06:00 until 06:15 == on duty, not driving: performing pre-trip inspection
    06:15 until 08:00 == on duty, driving to customer to be loaded
    08:00 until 08:15 == on duty, not driving: being loaded (only required to log 15 minutes for this)
    08:15 until 09:00 == off duty (still being loaded)
    09:00 until 12:00 == on duty, driving (heading toward delivery)
    12:00 until 12:45 == off duty (lunch)
    12:45 until 15:00 == on duty, driving (heading toward delivery)
    15:00 until 15:15 == on duty, not driving (being unloaded)
    15:15 until 16:00 == off duty, (still being unloaded)
    16:00 until 20:00 == on duty, driving (heading home)
    20:00 until midnight == sleeper (ran out of hours)
    This graph would look like the following (provided each dash represents one 15-minute block:
    <pre>
    1. -----------------------| |---| |---| |---|
    2. | | | | | | | |----------------
    3. | -------| | |------------| |---------| | |----------------|
    4. |-| |-| |-|
    </pre>
    Though the above graph is crappy, it should give the idea of what needs to be done. At each change of status (i.e., from off duty to on duty, not driving) there must be a vertical line between the statuses, not going above and below like in the example above. Then, once the status changes again, the horizontal line needs to be drawn from the vertical line of the last status change to the time of the new status change and then the vertical line to the new status.
    The way the driver's daily log works is like this...When I come on duty, I am required to do a pre-trip inspection of my truck/trailer, which requires 15 minutes on duty, not driving, so I log that all at once, including the vertical line up to the 3rd line of the graph, which is on duty, driving. Then, in this example, I drive for 1.75 hours, until I arrive at my pick-up. Once I get there, I draw the horizontal line on line 3 of the graph, the vertical line down to line 4 (on duty, not driving), the 15-minute horizontal line and the vertical line up to line 1 (off duty). When I get ready to leave the pick-up after I am loaded, I draw the horizontal line across line 1, the vertical line down to line 3 and then drive until I stop.
    Other things that are desired for this graph logic is to take into account the US-MCSA/DOT regulations for drivers that state the following:
    a. A driver may not be on duty for more than 14 hours, without a 10-hour break
    - Nothing stops this "14-hour clock" except a 10-hour break, so if a driver comes on duty at 06:00 and spends 15 minutes doing the pre-trip inspection and then goes off duty for the next 8 hours, the 14-hour clock is still running and the driver will only have 5 hours and 45 minutes to work (roughly).
    b. A driver may not drive for more than 11 hours, without a 10-hour break, provided the 14-hour rule is obeyed.
    - In other words, even if a driver only drives for a total of 7 hours, but the 14-hour clock expires, the driver may not complete his/her 11 hours of driving allowed.
    c. A driver must take a break of 10 consecutive hours in each 24-hour period.
    *** This is confusing because the 10-hour break can span midnight and still be considered consecutive, even though part of the break is on one graph and the other part is on another graph.
    In taking these rules into account, I would like the graphing part of the program's logic to change the horizontal line color from blue (the regular line color) to red if the driver is in violation of the rules above. Where this gets really complicated is where the same status crosses midnight from day-to-day.
    As I said, I have successfully gotten the grid painted using java.awt.Graphics2D methods, but am having trouble coming up with the logic for drawing the driver status throughout the day. All data will be stored in a MySQL database table and can be pulled at any time that it is needed. The user will be entering the current status change time, as well as location (city and state) and a comment (which is not required, except for when doing a pre-trip inspection, fueling, loading or unloading), then clicking a button labeled "Update Log".
    Any help with the logic for this part of the application is greatly appreciated. If you can provide sample code to help demonstrate the logic you are describing, I will be grateful.
    Thank you all for your assistance. If you would like a better idea of what the daily log graph looks like, you can run the class below.
    Cheers,
    Sean

    <blockquote>Sean, I checked your code and seen that package net.pekinsoft..., is this an Illinois Company by any chance?</blockquote>
    Yes, this is a company that I have tried (unsuccessfully) to start in central Illinois...I'm guessing that the "Pekin" part gave it away.
    <blockquote>Thanks for posting the DB TABLE -- we'll need that later, plus I wanted to see if you would respond.</blockquote>
    Not a problem on the DB table. Why wouldn't I respond...I want and NEED help here... ;-)
    <blockquote>I have a few questions but don't want to complicate your line of thinking, so I'll just describe generally how I have approached a big project like this. </blockquote>
    I will answer them the best that I can.
    <blockquote>For one thing, I do not start with a GUI or even consider what I want it to look like... I start with the data, and how that data is broken down into different classes, and then how those classes come together to form an Object Hierarchy. I have and do maintain a large MySQL database myself with 18 TABLES. Some of the TABLES hold very little information which I use as static final information. As a matter of fact, one of those TABLES is called status and contains 5 fields. This status TABLE is storing 7 rows of information because I have 7 different levels. The fields in my status TABLE are status_id, status_type, status_title, status_desc, and status_icon. This means I will have 7 icons to represent the different status levels, a description, a title, a type (maybe yours could be ON or OFF duty for example), and the ID of the status.
    Another thing at this stage of development is that I don't make up my mind concretely about any of the data or how the data will fit together. I want to remain as flexible as possible, so that as my design develops, the design allows for the addition or subtraction of data and different data types to be created. In other words, I completely atomize all structure, associations, relationships, dependencies, or just anything in general that makes two or more pieces of information stick together.
    At this point, all I have is a loose bag of primitive data types with no structure whatsoever. Like I just tore up a piece of paper into a hundred pieces and threw into the air letting the pieces fall where they may.
    While I'm at this point, I will make decisions about which languages and platform would be the best to raise the beast. In my case, I chose to run it on the internet, so I chose MySQL to store the data, SQL to communicate to the DB, and the server uses a PHP scripting engine to spit out the HTML, also PHP lets me create OO classes very similar to a JAVA class. This is a very important step and must be made now, not later -- you don't want to do all this work only to find out that it should have been done in another language! Been there done that.
    Once I've decided all of the above, then I come back and decide how the data should be organized. NOW I make all the database TABLES. Then I write a class definition for each of the db tables. Each class will provide methods for saving, editing, and retrieving info to and from the db using SQL.
    Once I get to this point I will make FORMS for the easy entry of data. The FORMS, CLASSES and and db TABLES all mirror each other now, so the CLASSES handle all the info from FORM to DB, DB to FORM. Notice at this point I am still dealing with data and data flow, NOT the display of pretty information -- not even close.
    Ok, enough about this Sean, let me know if this helps any.</blockquote>
    This information was helpful, but also how I typically approach a large project.
    The only problem with what you talk about above is dealing with allowing "wiggle-room" for changing the data because the data that I'm storing is codified by the federal government through the CSA-2010 laws that regulate the trucking industry. Therefore, I really don't have any wiggle-room with the data at all.
    As for choosing Java over another language, I made this choice because I don't like limiting myself (or others) on what operating system they use and platform-independence is one of the best things about Java (provided you don't use any OS-specific code, which I try like hell not to do). I am a huge Linux guy, but have to use Windows to update my GPS and would like to be able to use this application no matter which OS I'm booted into. Just so you understand, I am fluent in multiple languages, including PHP, Java, Python, Ruby, C/C++, BASIC and Bash. I am also very big on OOP and always leave accessing the database to the class that holds that data (i.e., LogEntry class will access the database to store and retrieve the log data). I am also using MySQL as the database back-end, because it is the SQL server that I am most comfortable with and also has versions for various OSes. I use the mysql-connector.jar library for accessing MySQL from Java, so that's not even an issue.
    As for "static final" data in the database, I do store my statuses, with the status_id numbers the same as the row number on the hard-copy Driver's Daily Log books. These records simply hold the status_id and description (i.e., 1, "Off Duty").
    I believe that I've got the logic for logging an entry such as: 08:00-10:00, On Duty, Driving, status location Indianapolis, IN, comment: Tire check. This whole entry is on the same day and therefore fairly easy to graph. The type of entry that I'm having problems figuring the logic for is one where the last change of duty status was before midnight and the current change of duty status is after midnight, on the next day. For example, I typically stop for the night (my DOT 10-hour break) at 5:00 PM (17:00) and am in the sleeper across midnight, then get going at 3:00 AM (03:00). I'm having trouble figuring out how many hours to log on the current day. In the example that I just gave, I'm not getting how I can figure out when to start at midnight and when to start out at the prior status change time through code. Nothing that I try seems to work correctly and I keep getting horizontal status lines outside of my graph area.
    As for what data I need to store and how I need to store it, I am very flexible, except with the daily log data, since it is federally mandated. Once I figure out the logic for actually logging the statuses and changes of status properly, I will create the class for storing and retrieving the database data...for now I'm just using hard-coded times to get the graphing logic right without the overhead of database access. Changing this code to use the data from the database will be a snap in comparison to figuring out the graphing functionality.
    Thanks for your insights and assistance. I look forward to seeing what other ideas you have to share.

    Hi andy,
    You need to go for BPM for your requirement.
    For multiple SOAP Action  you need to specify the action name in SOAP receiver adapter.
    You can create 3 SOAp channel with 3 different action.
    or create one channel and set the Action name dynamically in Mapping.

    My Macbook Pro (4 GB RAM) - is beeping LOUDLY 3 times when I start up.  It has been performing poorly lately.  It seems to have trouble coming out of sleep.  It will just become unresponsive and have to restart.  I took it to Apple and they kept it over night - said it had some issues that they fixed.  Within a couple of days it was having difficulty waking up again but not making the 3 beeps.  So, I erased and reloaded everything.  It has been about a week and it started having the same issue again and today....3 beeps again.  SO SAD!!  It's killing my work. • Blinking buttons in sequence

    I am building a calculator simulator in Flash CS3 using
    Action Script 3. I would like to demonstrate how to solve a problem
    by "blinking" the correct button sequence on the calculator. I can
    "blink" one button now by adjusting the alpha setting of a
    rectangle symbol over any key. I did this by creating a new timer
    set for 1000 ms and creating a listener for the TICK event.
    I adjust the alpha setting, start the timer, wait for the
    Tick and adjust the alpha again. This works fine for one button.
    However, I need to blink a sequence of buttons at one-second
    intervals to demonstrate how to solve a complete problem.
    I'm having trouble coming up with the right steps to blink a
    sequence of buttons at one-second intervals. Can anyone explain the
    right way to do this? Thank you for any help.

    Hi Steve
    I think Lilybiri may be somewhat busy today as I've not seen any posts from her. So hopefully she won't mind my offering to help.
    She meant to insert images of the buttons you want to be disabled. Just place images there. They will look like buttons but won't be clickable until you want them to be.
    You will use the ability to hide and show the images as well as the buttons. This is tied to Advanced Actions. Captivate help does offer a section that talks about Advanced Actions and I also offer a eBook on them for a reasonable price at the link below. I think it might be helpful for you but I'm not here to SPAM you. I'm only trying to offer help.
    In a nutshell you would insert all the buttons and images. Configure most of the buttons as hidden and most of the images as visible. Then you will create an advanced action for each button that will hide the image of the button, show the next live button, then visit the section you want. When you return to the slide the next button should be visible and clickable.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Help Choosing The Correct App Flow

    I have a client that needs certain functionality that I am having trouble coming up with the best solution.
    The client has a video academy. Features needed in the academy:
    1. There is a monthly fee for academy membership
    2. Only one new video added to the academy each month. The academy will launch with 4 videos available.
    3. Member may choose between the current months video or a past months video as their video of choice for the current month.
    4. Member may also choose more than one video for current month (There is a charge for each additional video chosen)
    5. Once member chooses a video/videos for current month those videos is placed in the Members Portal Video Library and is always available to member as long as they keep membership status current
    6. EACH INDIVIDUAL VIDEO IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO THOSE MEMBERS WHO HAVE CHOSE THAT ACTUAL VIDEO AS THEIR VIDEO OF CHOICE FOR THE MONTH
    7. THE USER MUST CHOOSE THEIR VIDEO FOR THE MONTH OR THE DEFAULT CURRENT MONTHS VIDEO WILL BE ADDED TO THER VIDEO LIBRARY.
    Everyones ideas and suggestions are welcome and appreciated, Actually I would love a good debate on why one method is better than another.

    I agree with Silkrooster's answer, however I will also say that starting by taking a "good" photo will help you a ton, even before you bring it into a photo editor. It may just be that you need to create a makeshift lighting setup (to avoid problematic shadows), or try taking your photos with a tripod (to avoid blurring).
    Here is a link with some really great tips to help you with product photography.
    I would also recommend that you check out Adobe Lightroom, which is a program created specifically for photographers. Below is a video showing how a photo can be vastly improved in 5 minutes! I hope you find this helpful.

  • Assuring a single instance of a monitor process with DB locks?

    I am developing an application with multiple modules and my customers would like to be able to run the modules on different servers if they wish to do so because of load. There are a couple "monitor" threads which implement java.util.Timer and java.util.TimerTask to periodically check certain files, database tables, etc. I think it is most appropriate that only one instance of each "monitor" should be allowed to run, regardless of which physical box it is on.
    I'm having trouble coming up with how to do this. The only real "central" point here is the database, so I'm wondering if there is some way to "lock" on a table, record, etc. in the database via my JDBC connection to signal that which ever monitor thread received the lock may continue to execute, but any other monitor threads of the same type from any other JVM or machine would exit out. However, since I have some monitoring of my monitor threads, I would like for this "lock" to timeout if its associated monitor were to fail gracefully or un-gracefully -- so I could somewhat quickly spin-up a new monitor.
    Is this possible with JDBC? I'm going to do some testing with the simple "SELECT FOR UPDATE" query. Thanks.

    This doesn't seem like a very good approach...
    Why not some sort of messaging service? http://java.sun.com/products/jms/

  • Assigning sequential value that resets to a group of records

    Hello all, and happy FRIDAY!!!
    I'm doing some data conversion for a new system and I'm having trouble coming up with a query.
    Running Oracle 10.2
    Sample Data:
    create table test (GRP number, PART varchar2(20), SEQ number);
    insert into test values(9000, 'lskdjf', null);
    insert into test values(9000, 'alsdk', null);
    insert into test values(9000, '492kjsfjsldk', null);
    insert into test values(9000, 'lkjasdf0982j', null);
    insert into test values(9001, 'likfjajsd', null);
    insert into test values(9001, '234-092838', null);
    insert into test values(8934, '000-192893aj', null);
    insert into test values(8934, 'anotherpart', null);
    insert into test values(8934, 'jjjj0-aa-2001', null);
    insert into test values(8934, 'encifudy', null);
    insert into test values(8934, 'asfdjslkjdfklsj', null);
    insert into test values(8934, 'lksjdflj', null);
    insert into test values(4736, 'l;ask---jdflasj', null);
    commit;
    Select * from test;Doing the select * at this point will give you the null data elements for the third column.
    Problem:
    I'm trying to run a query that spits out a sequence for each "group" of records. If there were 5 records in a group, I would want the sequence to start at 1 and go to 5... maybe ordered by part. (not quite sure the ordering, but need to do babysteps here) :P
    Here is an example of the data output I'd want from the above example:
    GRP     PART               SEQ
    9000     lskdjf               1
    9000     alsdk               2
    9000     492kjsfjsldk          3
    9000     lkjasdf0982j          4
    9001     likfjajsd          1
    9001     234-092838          2
    8934     000-192893aj          1
    8934     anotherpart          2
    8934     jjjj0-aa-2001          3
    8934     encifudy          4
    8934     asfdjslkjdfklsj          5
    8934     lksjdflj          6
    4736     l;ask---jdflasj          1In that result, SEQ is not applied to the record in part order, but ultimately that might be something that I'd like to do. So far just working toward wanting to get those numbers in there. I have read using rankover(), but that is still a bit confusing to me on how that works. I'll go research it more as I suspect that is probably what I'm going to have to use.
    Ultimately this is part of a cursor that is being fed through a bulk collect. I might be able to populate that SEQ in the PL/SQL, but I figured it'd be easier to just get them in place at the query level so they're already part of the collection, instead of having to build the logic to create that numbering system prior to insertion to a staging table.
    Anyhoo... any help would be greatly appreciated! If I left anything out or am un-clear in anyway, please let me know! Thank you!

    I have read using rankover(), but that is still a bit confusing to me on how that works. You've got that right! Analytic functions are very strange looking and confusing at first. After a while, they don't seem so strange, and then they even get less confusing.
    One thing to remember: "PARTITION BY x" (this clause is always optional) means that each value of x is a world unto itself. It's as if a separate query is being done for each value of x, and when they're all finished, the results are UNIONed together. In this case, you want to PARTITION BY grp.
    I'll go research it more as I suspect that is probably what I'm going to have to use.You're very close; only, as the first reply said, it's not RANK that you want, but its close relative ROW_NUMBER. The difference between the two is how they handle ties. If you have duplicate data, RANK assigns duplicate numbers. I assume you want unique numbers, even if you have identical parts in the same grp.
    Ultimately this is part of a cursor that is being fed through a bulk collect. I might be able to populate that SEQ in the PL/SQL, but I figured it'd be easier to just get them in place at the query level so they're already part of the collection, instead of having to build the logic to create that numbering system prior to insertion to a staging table.It's easy enough to assign the numbers when you build the table.
    If the situation is what you posted, that is, your table already exists, but the seq number isn't populated yet, then you can do this:
    MERGE INTO     test     dst
    USING   (
             SELECT  grp
             ,         part
             ,         ROW_NUMBER () OVER ( PARTITION BY  grp
                                                    ORDER BY      part
                               )       AS seq
             FROM    test
         )          src
    ON     (     src.grp          = dst.grp
         AND     src.part     = dst.part
    WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE
    SET     dst.seq   = src.seq
    ;The MERGE statement above assumes that the combination (grp, part) is unique.
    After you run it, this query:
    SELECT       *
    FROM       test
    ORDER BY  grp
    ,            part
    ;will produce these results:
    `      GRP PART                        SEQ
          4736 l;ask---jdflasj               1
          8934 000-192893aj                  1
          8934 anotherpart                   2
          8934 asfdjslkjdfklsj               3
          8934 encifudy                      4
          8934 jjjj0-aa-2001                 5
          8934 lksjdflj                      6
          9000 492kjsfjsldk                  1
          9000 alsdk                         2
          9000 lkjasdf0982j                  3
          9000 lskdjf                        4
          9001 234-092838                    1
          9001 likfjajsd                     2The USING clause above is almost the same as the query posted in the last message, but, in the analytic clause, instead of "ORDER BY grp, part" it only says "ORDER BY part". It never makes any sense to PARTITION BY and ORDER BY the same column in the same function. Why? Discuss.
