Trouble composing e-mail to address groups stored in iCloud.

Hello,
Here's the synopsis of my problem:
My address book contacts and groups are being stored in iCloud.
If I vew a group in Address Book and go to the Edit menu, "Edit Distribution List" is greyed out.
If I right click a group name and select the option to send e-mail to that group, I see a new message window but the address headers are empty.
If I go to the "to" field in a new message and try to type in a group name, it will autocomplete the name for me, but the moment I let it complete the name for me, the name disappears and I'm left with an empty "To:" header again.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion. Address Book version 6.1 (1062). Mail version 5.1 (1251/1251.1).
It could very well be that this doesn't have anything to do with iCloud at all, but this seemed to be a reasonable place to start looking. Any help appreciated.

It appears you need to have at least one group "On my mac" before you are allowed to use groups in iCloud. It's a bug.

(i.e. - around 50 e-mail addressses of newsletter subscribers) I don't want to make a card for each address, but need to be able to send bulk e-mail out. No, Address Book doesn't currently support something like this. It only has group support which requires creating a card for each person.

The ability to recognize 'groups' as imported from your address book, is not currently supported on either the iPod Touch or Phone when composing e-mail. In my discussions with the Apple engineering dept, if you'd like to see this feature, take a moment and follow this link and tell them you want this feature.

If enough people ask for this feature, it'll appear in one of the upgrades. It's a real pain entering each ember of the group individually.

I suggest the following steps, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
1) Register HRT

KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
3) Batt Pull Reboot
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then you should try deleting and re-adding your BIS conduits for the affected email accounts.
Occam's Razor nearly always applies when troubleshooting technology issues!

Your answer also taught me to be a little more persistent, as I had started looking at Preferences, and just didn't notice the icons (including Applications) at the top of that window that would have led me to my answer.

Cannot send mail to a group if hiding addresses

I can't send mail to a group unless I show all member addresses. If I uncheck this preference I recieve the following error dialogue:
This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered.
Sending the message content to the server failed.
Very frustrating and infuriating for my reciepients. Any ideas?

In mail help, Bcc is indicated as an alternative to unchecking the box saying show names in group when sending. Any ideas as to why the preference doesn't work?

Since I installed Snow Leopard, when I go to my mail to send a New Message I used to be able to open the address book in New Message to put in my group mailings with one click. Now that doesn't work. It only takes the 1st name in the group. Now What

I had similar problems. In Leopard, I used to be able to just drag one or more Groups from the Address Book to the address field in the Mail message, and it would go in unexpanded, as per the Preference I have set in Mail. With Snow Leopard, when I do this all the individual addresses go into the address field PLUS the unexpanded Group.
However, I found that if I Select the group in Address Book, Copy it, then Paste it into the Mail message address field, all is well. That is, the Group goes into the field unexpanded, and the individuals in the group all receive the message with "To: Undisclosed Recipients" as I intended.

When I send an e-mail to a group address, from my address book, I get an error messageI get an error message that one of them is not a valid e-mail address, although I have used it alone without any problem.

Importing Address Groups from Outlook Express 5 (Mac) to OS 10.3 Mail

I've successfully imported all my emails and email folders from Outlook Express (Mac) to Mail. The contacts imported into my Address Book, but not collected into their groups. I need those address groups!

Exchange 2010 Mail Enabled Distribution Group Won't Receive from External Address

Let me pre-empt the usual first response: yes, I've unchecked "require that all senders are authenticated" on the Message delivery Restrictions properties of Message Delivery Restrictions. I cannot get a message from an external mail server to
send to an internal mail-enable distribution group. It's working internally. I've checked our ironport and the message is being sent to exchange (at least I think it is).
How can I troubleshoot this?!

I have installed the Sun ONE Messaging server 6.0 as part of an evaluation of the Java Enterprise System. This was installed along with Directory Server 5.2 and Identity Server 6.1. During the installation I created a top level organization (o=internet) knowing that I would want to create multiple email domains within it and a default domain. After the installation was complete I used the User Management Utility (/opt/SUNWcomm/bin/commadmin) to create some users within the default domain. I provided each user with a primary email address ([email protected]) and an alternate email address (mailAleternateAddress = [email protected]).
In testing the system I find that the Messaging Server will not accept messages sent to the alternate email address whether sent from the same server (via Messenger Express) or from an external server. It returns the error message: 550 5.1.1 unknown or illegal alias.
In attempting to trouble shoot this problem I have watched the Directory Server's access log when such an email is sent. It shows a query using [email protected] even though the email message was sent to [email protected] In any event the DS finds the user, but the Messaging server rejects the message.

Any suggestions to eliminate this problem would be appreciated.

Both the primary and alternate email addresses are the same as the domain of the user.
Here is what I want to do. Email is sent to a primary email server (not this machine). Mail for some users stays on that server to be read and mail for other users is moved to a geographically separate server (the one in question) by specifying that the mail be forwarded to the specific host: [email protected] > [email protected]
On this second server I want to host two (or more) independent email domains. I do not want one of the domains to be a subdomain of the other. So during the installation I used o=internet as the root suffix and then used a different default domain (representing one of the registered internet domains). After installation I used the commadmin tool to create a second domain so now I have what looks something like this:
o=internet,
__ou=People
__ou=Groups
__o=domain1
____ou=People
____ou=Groups
__o=domain2
____ou=People
____ou=Groups
I then created some users under domain1 and some under domain2 so one user's dn is:
uid=user, ou=people, o= domain1.com, o=internet.
Mail sent locally to user@ domain1.com gets delivered correctly, but sending to [email protected] does not.
host2.domain1.com is the fully qualified domain name of the server.

How to sync Mail with Exchange groups?

Work employs Exchange for mail. In Exchange are a number of Exchange Groups - named collections of individual contacts. I need to send emails to these groups.
At some level, Mail understands these Exchange groups - if I start typing an Exchange Group name into the To: field, Mail will autocomplete the Exchange Group name. Hitting enter at this point will decompose the group name into individual email addresses for group members.
However, changes to the Exchange groups are not reflected in Mail's To: field. If, for example, a new member is added to an Exchange Group, subsequent emails composed in Mail.app as per the above process will NOT include that new member.
Otherwise, Exchange sync seems to work. Emails sent to my Exchange account, for example, arrive in my Mail.app inbox.
How do I get Exchange Groups synced with Mail.app?
As an aside, these groups seem to have no presence in Address Book - I cannot find them by name. This seems suboptimal - is this proper? Is there some way to display the Exchange Groups as Lists in Address Book?

In a new email message window start to type the name of the Group you have in Contacts/Address Book in the 'To' field - it should self-complete when it recognises the name.
(Note: this only works with 'normal' Groups and not Smart 'Groups').

Mail and Address book playing up

Hello. I am having problems with my Mail and Address book. For some reason, sent mails sometimes do not end up in the Sent folder, received emails sometimes go to the Trash without me sending them there, and I often have to resort to "Search" in the top right hand corner of the screen to find the mail I am looking for. What's more, my address book has stopped working properly: I can create groups but each group shows the general contact list by its side, even upon creation! I cannot add or delete from the group list. Basically, it seems like the two programes have gone all wonky tonky. This may or may not have to do with the recent Security Update 2012-001 Bricks Rosetta problems. I posted here in that regard but since the problems I noticed disappeared of their own accord, I did not bother reinstalling all as suggested. Reinstalling everything is simply too much hassle for me ... I use address book a lot and need things to work. Does anyone have a quick fix for this? Could this be caused by the faulty Apple January update? thank you in advance!

You should back up what you have.
Then, restart from your Mac OS X Installation Disk (insert disk and hold down C key during startup). At the first Installer screen, run Disk Utility from the menu. Use both the Repair and Repair Permissions routines on the hard drive. Do Repair first, because you problem sounds like a disk directory issue. If Disk Utility cannot make the repair, you may need a tool like DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro.

Mail and Address Book crashing, system very slooooow in general

Not to confuse possibly separate issues, but my iMac 20 has been running slower and slower lately (continually watching the little technicolor beach ball spin), now both Mail and Address Book are crashing immediately upon attempting to start up.
Separate issues? Part of the same? And most importantly, what do I do?

Problem was to many smart groups in my address book

'Mail' and 'Address Book' not communicating

I have recently started using 'Mail' and 'Address Book'.
There is a problem: These programs don't seem to communicate. When I address an e-mail, the addressee is not auto-filled from 'Address Book'. Likewise, I can't select a name in 'Address Book' and e-mail to that person.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

In Address Book, what happens if you click the label (home, work ...) beside a contact's email address?
In Mail's Preferences/Composing have you selected "Automatically Complete Addresses"?
