Sorry to reply to this post in the incorrect forum, but Dorian hasn't yet posted his question in the iMovie forum.
Dorian: I've got a Canon Elura camcorder, too, (Elura 80). Before I connected it to my iMac and opened iMovie, I made sure the mode selection (on the right side of the camera) was set to VCR/Play. Most importantly: I clicked the Menu button, and when the onscreen menu appeared on the LCD, I pushed the Set lever down until VCR Setup was highlighted. At that point, I clicked in the middle of the Set lever to show a secondary menu -- navigated down to where it says AV-DV... Off, and pushed the set button one more time to go to a third menu, where you have to make sure AV-DV is ON. From there, opening iMovie will show Camera Connected.
Hope this helps!

  • I'm having trouble connecting my Intel iMac with the internet using wifi router

I'm having trouble configuring my iMac to accept a connection with my Telstra Elite mobile broadband Wifi router.
The iMac's Wifi is turned on and the elite router is selected in the Wifi list with a tick.
The router is turned on, and connected to the internet.
I'm able to surf the net and collect emails using my MacBook Pro ( what I'm using now) and my iPad with no hassles by connecting them to the Telstra Elite Wifi router. But I'm unable as yet to get a connection using the iMac.
The Telstra router accepts up to 5 simultaneous connections.
At present the display on the router says that three devices are connected. They being the iPad, the MacBook Pro and the iMac.
    Can anyone help me out?

  • Trouble connecting camcorder

I have a film project for school and I offered to edit our footage. The camera is a Canon ZR 500, and I have the correct FireWire cable, and the cable for the camera itself is an IEEE 1384. When I hook it to my MacBook Pro, nothing happens, and when I open iMovie, I'm not sure how to retrieve the footage. This is my first time trying to use iMovie (at all) so I would appreciate some advice. Thanks!

    Hello, Kenneth,
For first timers, Apple has a good tutorial that might be helpful to get you started. Look a href="http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/index.html">here If you are planning to use iDVD, have a look at its tutorial, also.
But, first, you need to connect the camcorder properly. Some companies (Sony for one) call their Firewire links IEEE so you are ok with the cable you have. Put it from the camcorder directly into your computer. You are right, when you first connect it nothing will happen....you need to open a new iMovie project, turn on the connected camera, being sure it is in VTR mode. You should then see a blue screen in iMovie and have a button that says 'import.' Click on that, and the movie should start importing from your camcorder. You can stop and start the importing as you wish. When the movie is loaded into iMovie, you can start editing your clips.
You should option-click on a clip and drag it down to the timeline. That will move a copy to the time line, leaving the original on the clips pane. Drag all the clips you want in the movie into the timeline. Then select each clip in turn and begin your editing. Be sure to save often.
The timeline can be viewed in two ways: Clips view and timeline view. The clips view is easier to see for editing the clips. The timeline view shows three tracks: one is your video and two are audio tracks into which you can add music/audio clips.
You can add titles, transitions, effects, to your clips.
When you are finished editing and your movie is complete, you will need to save it and then export it for whatever form is your desired final result.
If you want to make it into a DVD, close iMovie, open iDVD, create your project and drag your movie into iDVD from the 'media' ->'movies' panes in iDVD. When you are satisfied with your iDVD project, save it 'as disk image' and you can burn your DVDs from the disk image using Disk Utility.
You could also export your movie back to DV tape in your camcorder using iMovie's 'Share' command.
You can export it as QuickTime movie for web use, emailing, etc.
What you do depends on what outcome you want.
This is just a very quick sketch of how it works. Check out the tutorials and then get started. Post back if you run into trouble. Have fun!

  • Trouble Connecting to new iMac computers

    Hey Everyone,
We have been using remote desktop for the past few years. We currently have version 3.4.
We recently purchased a classroom of new iMacs running 10.6.7. We named and set them up for Remote Management, and allowed access and managed the options to observe, control, generate reports etc.... Like we have for all our other machines.
I can see these new machines  on my ARD scanner, but can not control them.. I can't enter the admin user name and password under info.. it is all grayed/blanked out:
This is only happening on my new machines.. We have other 10.6.7 iMacs running fine, without this issue.
Any ideas?  Our machines are assigned IPs through a DNS Server.
Thanks so much for any advice.
    -Vicky

Are the new workstations on a different subnet from workstations that are working correctly in ARD? If so, it's possible that the router is blocking the ports needed for ARD to work (3283 and 5900) for that subnet. You might need to talk to your school's network administrator about that.
    Regards.

  • Trouble connecting new iMac to exisiting PC/Linksys network

I just bought a new iMac and am having trouble connecting to my existing Linksys wireless network. My PC connects wirelessly fine, and the iMac connects if I use the Ethernet connection. However, it says I have "Incompatible Security" when I try to use the built-in Airport wireless connection.
My network is WEP encrypted. I use one of the encryption keys for my PC. I was using 10 128-bit hex. Is there anything special or unique I need to do for the Mac? For example, for the Mac do I also use the 10 or 26 character key, or just the "Passphrase" (as described by Linksys)? Searching the net, I have found old posts suggesting I need to use quotation marks or $ sign in front of the key, but that advice seems outdated.
BTW - I am having the same problem with my new iTouch.
    Your help is appreciated.
    null

Thanks for posting back when you found the solution.
Just to close things up as to why this would be a problem:
WEP allows for 4 different keys to be configured. Key 1 is used to encrypt the data sent out from the device (either client or access point). When data is received, either of Keys 1-4 can match what is received.
Since OS X only uses Key 1, if Key 1 on your access point doesn't match, it won't be able to decrypt anything that the access point sends back.
The other keys are very rarely used.

  • Trouble connecting/printing to Canon copy machine and printer with iMac

I'm having trouble connecting to/printing off of my new imac, to the network(wireless) printer at work. The printer is a Canon iR advance c5051. When I try printing it keeps giving me a message stating that I did not use the correct password or ID, 15513. It shows up in my computer's printer cue, but does not show up on the actual Canon printer's cue. The print driver has already been installed, so I'm not sure what's going on. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks so much!

  • I have a Panasonic camcorder PV-GS65 and I used to be able to connect to my iMac and my machine would automatically recognize the camera, rewind the tape, and start the import process as soon as I turned the device on and it was connected.  not anymore

I have a Panasonic camcorder PV-GS65 and I used to be able to connect to my iMac and my machine would automatically recognize the camera, rewind the tape, and start the import process as soon as I turned the device on and it was connected.  Now my iMac does not even see my device
    Any suggestions?

You cannot install the apps on the car.
The cars head unit is merely acting as an interface to the apps on the device.
If you want to use those apps in the car, plug the device in and leave it plugged in.

  • Connecting sony camcorder to imac

Hi, new to imac ( not even 3weeks yet!) loving it, but I now want to move on to do some more stuff- I assume I can connect my old Sony mini DV cam corder to the imac via firewire? the Sony's model is DCR-pc101e it has a small firewire look port under the flap - but what sort of cable do I use to connect the the 2? I'm new to firewire - I'm kinda guessing it's like usb? mini micro standard etc?
Also, and perhaps more to the point, will the imac recognise the camcorder? or will I need extra software to import video's?
    tia Wayno

Apple says that virtually all miniDV tape video cams are compatible with iMovie - but you will need to connect via Firewire. USB will not work. You need a Firewire cable which you can get from the standard suppliers like Belkin. I assume you have a late model iMac which has only a Firewire 800 port so make sure you get the proper cable.
Once you have the camera connected to the iMac, start up iMovie, put your camera on play and then most likely the video import screen will show up. If not, then click on the little camera icon on the lower left side of the iMovie window. You should be able to control your camera from the video import screen.

  • Trouble connecting with IMAC to Windows shared files on network.

Every so often our IMAC will have trouble connecting to our file storage server (running Windows Vista). Usually we reboot the file storage server and this fixes the problem. When the connection problem occurs the IMAC can still smb into other workstations on the network, but not the file storage server. Anyone had any similar issues before? The two things that seem odd to me are 1) That the IMAC can still smb into other workstations on the network and 2) That a restart fixes it everytime.

Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You are not doing anything wrong. There are compatibility issues with the way Pidgin and iChat Leopard communicate. Your options are to use another windows client (PSI for instance) or make some changes to the configuration of the ichat server (namely set the server up to use the non SSL port 5222 and plain text log in).

  • After connecting my Sony camcorder to imac (Snow Leopard) to import a video the import window does not open. I have imported videos from the sam camcorder successfully before. What could have happened? Puzzled)

After connecting my Sony camcorder to Imac (Snow Leopard) to import a video to imovie 09 the import window does not open. In the past I have successfully imported videos from the same camcorder. What could have happened? Puzzled

Oh my! Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. But I do know that my goal was to do both---backup AND free some space. My iMAc is old (2006) and I upgraded it a year or so ago to Snow Leopard. I didn't think I had the capability of backing up without an external drive, but  maybe I do since I upgraded. Do I?
But I bought this My Book mostly for freeing space because I like to make cards in Photoshop and I'm forever running out of space when I get too many layers (don't really know what I'm doing there, either).
Is there some way that I can rectify my mistakes and start all over?
Thank you so much for  beng so prompt with your reply and patient with mine. I tried for so long to see the dialog box with the library listings. When I launched iPhoto, even with holding down the Option key, it kept immediately launching into the full screen. Finally, after an hour of doing it over and over again, it worked when I held the key down for 5 minutes. Then when I was typing my reply, I kept getting a message to "Request Time Out." Didn't know how to do that, so kept hitting the OK button and kept typing for another half minute. Finally, when ready to send, Safari couldn't do it. "Try again" exasperated me until I realized I would have to begin again and use Firefox. When I got there and ready to type, I got the message  that my message had been retrienved and did I want to use it?!!
So your kindness is very much appreciated.

  • What firewire will connect 27 inch IMac with Cannon GL2 digital camcorder

What firewire will connect 27 inch IMac with Cannon GL2 digital camcorder?

According to the Canon spec's a > 4 to 9 pin firewire cables is what you will need, provided that you have a slightly older 27" iMac that still has a FireWire 800 port.

  • I am having trouble connecting IPAD1 to wireless any suggestions?

I am having trouble connecting my IPad1 to Belkin Wireless Router. It was working fine until a couple of days ago. I can use my IMAC okay via wireless. I can see my network on the IPad, but message comes up "unable to join the network XXXX". I have read the Apple recent release to fix this problem...still no luck. Can anyone please help?

Look at iOS Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398
    Additional things to try.
Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
On your iPad go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings and see if that enables you to connect.
If none of the above suggestions work, look at this link.

You might try a third party scanner software. Printer manufacturers are terrible about keeping their products updated. I'd recommend VueScan, you can get a trial version here and if it works and you like it you can purchase it.
