Trouble connecting Dell monitor to macbook pro

I'm trying to hook a Dell u3011 to a 2011 macbook pro.  I've got a DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort cable connected, as well as the USB cable, but the monitor gets no signal and displays a "No Displayport Cable" error message.  I've double-checked the connections and the input setting in the monitor's menu.  I'm not currently able to test either the HDMI or DVI connections because I lack the necessary cables/adapters.  Any ideas what's going on?

Hi,
I am sure your problem must have been sorted out by now, but for all current and future buyers for the dell U2414H and having an apple computing device, mac, macbook, pro etc, the monitor works perfectly out of the box when I connected with a mini DP(thunderbolt port) to HDMI output (U2414H), it just ran out of the box, without any issues, it even worked simply for my bootcamp windows. So no need to fret before purchasing one, simply go ahead and get it, it's the Monitor with most appealing edge giving you only a screen to view at, I was also considering between the U2412M and the U2414H, I think I've made a great choice.
Cheers,

  • How to connect two monitors using macbook pro?

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro through which I want to extend the displays to two individual monitors.
The two monitors should show two different windows which is opened through my macbook.
I have observed that macbook has only one mini display port through which I connect to HDMI or to DVI ports in monitor.
So how do I connect another monitor source to my macbook, which ports can help in this situation?
The monitors I have which can supports HDMI,DVI,VGA and DP ports.
Could anyone help me on this issue.
    Thanks.

You can use a USB 2.0/3.0 to HDMI/DVI interface.  You might also consder Thundebolt to HDMI/DVI.
The MBP 13" will support three screens (two external) and the MBP 15" will support four screen (three external).

  • Connecting 4k monitor to Macbook Pro retina 2012 mid

I tried to connect to Macbook Pro retina 2012 mid 15 inch 2.7GHZ model. Initially I connected using HDMI to 3840x2160 at 30 hz. I casually changed the resolution to 1080 p from scaled option. Now I no more get the option of scaling to 4k. I am unsure what is the issue over it. When I log into my windows. I am able to log in with my original 4k resolution in 30 HZ. Any guidance would be really great.
    2) I read a few forums regarding 4k with 60hz external monitor connection for macbook pro retina 2012 mid. But I couldn't get a clear solution whether it is possible or not. Would be great if someone can show lights on this too.

1- does Apple ever do exchanges for newly released products?  I bought my MacBook in jan they came out with new in mar.
If you purchased the product from Apple, not a third party, you have 14 days from the date of purchase to return it for a refund or exchange.  You are well past that.
2- if and when Apple comes out with a 4k or 5k thunderbolt display, will it be backwards compatible with my MacBook sich that I can't get the resolutions and 60mhz?
I do not have an answer to that and the Terms of Use for these forums discourages from speculating what Apple may or may not do in the future.  Having said that, from a practical business standpoint, backwards compatibility would be a sensible approach.  It has been done so in many areas in the past.
    Ciao.

  • Proper way to connect external monitors to macbook pro?

I recently had to have the logic board in my mbp replaced and was wondering if disconnecting an external monitor while computer is on would cause the problem.
Should monitors be connected/disconnected with computer powered down?

If fact, the correct way to connect external displays is to have the MBP on, the external display on and seeking a signal, the external display cable connected to the DVI-to-VGA adapter (if necessary), and then connect to the MBP. So, the last connection is to the MBP, but everything is powered on. That way, the MBP autodetects the display.
Even if you don follow that procedure, connecting/disconnecting a cable from the DVI port would not do anything to your logic board.

  • Trouble connecting iphone 5s to macbook pro via bluetooth

My MBP (OS 10.10) and iPhone 5S (iOS 8.0.2) (both late 2013) do not connect via bluetooth.
I want to use Handoff and file transfer between them, which is why I am trying to connect them.
    Steps taken:
    1) I pair the devices here:
    2) My phone says that they are not supported (see below)
Sometimes they connect for about 30 seconds, but then disconnect.
    What should I do?

Found a solution on this page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5458?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Check the following settings on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and make sure Handoff is on.
Go to Settings > Phone. If you see Wi-Fi Calling, turn it off.
Check the following settings on your Mac:
Go to the Wi-Fi icon at the top of your screen and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Make sure your Mac and iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your iOS device and compare the name of the network with the Wi-Fi network on your Mac.
Go to the Bluetooth icon at the top of your screen and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
In System Preferences > General, select “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices.” If you don't see this setting, your Mac may not support Handoff.
Open the FaceTime app, go to FaceTime > Preferences and turn on “iPhone Cellular Calls.”
Go to System Preferences, and sign out and then sign in again to your iCloud account.

  • Need help connecting Dell U2713HM monitor to MacBook Pro

What is the best way to connect a Dell U2713HM monitor to MacBook Pro OS 10.7.5 to maximize the resolution 2560 x 1440? I was using a VGA adapter on my old Viewsonic monitor that hooked into the Thunderbolt port, I think. When I use my old adapter with the new Dell monitor, it stops my Mac from responding and the monitor says it has no DVI connection. When I unplug the adapter from my Mac, it starts working again.  I'm not very good with all these port options and descriptions so talk real slow, please.

1 Dual Link Digital Visual Interface connectors (DVI-D) with HDCP
    1 DisplayPort 1.2 (DP)
1 High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI)
    1 Video Graphics Array (VGA)
    1 USB 3.0 upstream port
    4 USB 3.0 downstream ports
    Thank you!

Here is what I have tried:
    1. Different HDMI-D cables

    3. Zapping the P-Ram
    4. Powering monitor with laptop closed
    5. Forcing the system to see the second monitor
    The nearest I can figure:
    - The laptop does see the catsleap (it displays resolutions I can set it to)
I am completely stumped, I was hoping someone could advise me.
    Thanks,
    Don

    Hey Kytarx,
I found the winning combination this weekend.
    I tried:
    - Apple Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter
    - ATLONA AT-DP400 Dual Link DVI to Mini Display Port Converter
    - Monoprice Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI®, DVI & DisplayPort Adapter
    My experience:
    - Altona didn't work at all, and their support claimed it would not.
    - Monoprice didn't work to Dual DVI, it did work to HDMI (great price I wish it did)
    - Apple Mini Displayport adapter did work, but would only work with certain USB + Display port combos.
The thing that was tripping me up was that two of the Dual DVI-D cords were bad.  Once I found the working cord, it was easier to find the working adapter.  The experience I did find to be a frustrating / expensive one. However, the Monitor itself is beautiful.
    Hopefully this helps someone else..
    Don

How to connect an external monitor to macbook pro. The monitor has no usb connecter, only a port.

Most MacBook Pro models have a Mini DVI port, a Mini DisplayPort or a ThunderBolt port for connecting an external display. USB does not have enough bandwidth to support a responsive display connection.

    Aha, all is good.
    I went to Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
    and to home/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
and deleted all SyncMaster.icc files. I did leave behind one SyncMaster file in the home/../Displays which had an old date and I new was ok.
Rebooted, plugged in SyncMaster, and a new icc file was automatically created in the /Library/../Displays folder.
    My display works normally, now.
