Trouble connecting email account

Purchased a MacBook Pro with retina display today but can't connect to my email account. Have run through the process as requested several times but no success. Working fine on ipad and iPhone. Any ideas what to do next?

Have now managed to connect to gmail account but still not hotmail.

webmail.rball.com is the address when I login...

I did that they said the incoming and outgoing server name is:
webmail.rball.com
Which I thought it was but my Nokia doesnt seem to accept it.
This is the order it comes in:
"add email"
"add password"
"Username" It automatically copies my email adress
Then it wants me to choose between POP3 or IMAP4?
If I choose POP3:
"Server for Incoming email"
Then "security"
SSL/TLS
Start TLS
nothing
Server for outgoing email
Then "security"
SSL/TLS
Start TLS
nothing
and then port 453 or something?
It's crazy hard
When I try to open the email it doesn't work!

Trouble syncing email account

My mac mail works fine with my iphone. My other email is through my university and I cannot get it to sync...it says something about a POP or IMAP account? Does anyone know how to set it up? I do not even know what the POP or IMAP is..the mail account is through Microsoft outlook for the university and is an .edu. What should I set it up as? Thanks!

Incoming is imap.mail.me.com. Outgoing is smtp.mail.me.com (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864). But if you're setting up iCloud mail on OS X Lion or higher, you go to Settings>iCloud and check Mail. This will add the account with the proper settings.

Trouble connecting my email account using ntlworld

To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click History button, and then Clear Recent History... .
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.

Having trouble setting up email accounts in the mail app?

Hi Apple community,
I am having trouble setting up my email accounts with the osX mail application. I have two accounts, an outlook and my college email through google. When I try to add the outlook account the prompt says that it cannot connect to the server and when I try my college mail i get the following prompt.
"Trying to log in to the Exchange server “autodiscover-s.outlook.com” failed. Make sure the email address and password you entered are correct, then click Continue."
Please note that my college account is run by gmail and ends in murraystate.edu

okay for your college email. Heres what you do.
Try adding your email and wait for the message to come up
Trying to log in to the Exchange server “autodiscover-s.outlook.com” failed. Make sure the email address and password you entered are correct, then click Continue."
Once it does, you will notice 2 extra boxes One says username and the other password. You will notice that the username will not have @murraystate.edu
Add this and continue and this should now be added as an email account and should be able to receive emails as normal.
For your outlook emails, I would recommend using the following article to set it up. It is fairly straightforward.

I lost connectivity from my mail aol account, and can not use mail to email, the email account is off line. What do I need to change to bring the account in line? The take accounts online function will not allow it to go on line

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
First, just confirming that you realize you can always access your AOL email account by going directly to www.aol.com from the Safari browser (or Firefox, Chrome, etc.) until you get the Apple Mail problem fixed.
If you cannot connect directly through a browser, it's quite possible that AOL is doing maintenance or having a temporary problem. It happens with surprising frequency to most online hosts. I usually check downrightnow.com, but AOL is not one of the services for which they collect trouble reports.
Reconnecting your Apple Mail to your AOL account:
In the Apple Mail menubar, click on the Mailbox, Get New Mail, and highlight the AOL account.
You should see the 'spinning wheel' next to the account name for a moment while your AOL mail is retrieved.
That should successfully reconnect you.
Occasionally my ISP seems to corrupt a few packets and I'll get a message that all my external email account password are rejected, and asks me to re-enter them. Instead of re-entering passwords, I click 'cancel', and use this same procedure to re-connect.
NOTE: I'm on Snow Leopard OS X 10.6, and Mail 4.5 (1084) but I believe the process to reconnect did not change since OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Having trouble adding new email account on Iphone 4

Hello,
I got my Iphone 4 on release day. The sync went ok, not completely trouble free, but was able to get this thing sync-ed.
I have four email accounts sync-ed with Itunes, however, I had created an extra email (pop) for exclusive use on my IPhone. I have been trying to add this new address on my phone, but keep getting the following error:
"Cannot Connect Using SSL
Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?"
I have checked, and the settings for the new account are correct. If I answer yes I receive the following message:
"The SMTP server "smtp-server.new.rr.com" doesn't support Password authentication. Please check your account settings and try again." and an OK button.
Settings have been checked to match the other four accounts, all are in the same server, POP and SMTP.

The problem is not thru TWC... I can access my account in Outlook and also by Webmail.
The problem is on the Iphone 4 (I had no problem on my 3G). Like I said, the settings I have entered are the same as the settings for the other 4 accounts. The only portion of the setup that I cannot access during the "failed" setup is the "Advanced" where I can turn SSL off and confirm password authentication.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

On 3G we cannot send emails from either our iPhones or iPad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all. Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Email account. What is causing this and what do we need to do to resolve it?

On 3G we cannot send Business emails from either our iPhones or Ipad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all. Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Account using both 3G and WiFi.
We bought the iPhones and Ipad so that we could send emails while we are out of the Office, but we are not able to do this unless we can find a WiFi connection. Incoming emails are fine. We use IMAP, for Business emails just incase this is relevant and I know that Hotmail is POP3.
Our technical IT knowledge is not great, so we look forward to your suggestions as to how to resolve this.

Contact whomever supports the email account and get the correct Outgoing email server settings from them.

Sometimes deleting the account and then re-creating it can solve this issue
Write down all the information in accounts before doing this
Highlight the account on the left and click the minus button
Then click the plus button to add the new account and follow the prompts

Having trouble setting up one email account

Hello,
I bought a Passport yesterday and am having one major issue. I have 3 email accounts through Yahoo and 2 of them addeded with no problem at all. However, one (my main one, of course) transferred briefly, then disappeared and now when I try to add it I get the message "Accounts. At this time your email and contacts accounts can't be added. Please try again later."
I've tried...and tried...and TRIED. Nothing changes. Any suggestions?

Don't assume your experience is the rule.
I have been using Yahoo two-factor authentication on Z10 and on Passport with no issue. Now Z10 being used by wife with her Yahoo email and with two-factor authentication, and again no trouble.
To add, I would not advise going backward to a less secure method. Simple username and password authentication is not advisable nowadays

My email account in Mail.app is IMAP, but when I delete emails, they don't delete from other devices connected to the mail server with IMAP. Deleted mail on other devices delete as normal from the server and thus from other devices as normal.

MacBook Pro, late 2011 version. Up to date Mountain Lion.
My email account in the Mail.app is set up as IMAP, but when I delete emails in the Mac Mail App, they are not deleted from the mail clients of the other devices that are connected to the mail server with IMAP. IMAP works perfectly between Windows Outlook 2010, iPad Mail App and Android default mail client. Deleted messages behave correctly, as in delete from one device and the mail is deleted from all devices.
Having just tested in reverse order on the Mac; emails deleted from the email client on Windows, iPad and Android are not deleted in the Mac Mail App. It appears that the account is behaving like POP rather than IMAP.
Any advice on how to have IMAP work correctly on the MacBook Pro Mail.app?

Hi Csound1, thanks. The email host is 1and1.co.uk, however, i am going to fess up and make myself look like a plonker now -
the email account in question was set up in Outlook as POP - stupid, stupid, stupid me, wasted an afternoon on this! I have now changed the Outlook account to IMAP and Mail.app works perfectly - and looks much nicer than Outlook did. Im in the middle of converting from Windows to a Mac, and still finding my way around the Mac
The lesson learned, never assume - always double check! All my other email addresses with 1and1 are all imap, except this one, and it happened to be the first one I set up in the Mail.app. (bows head in disgrace!)
