  • Trouble connecting Ipod to computer (USB)

I've had my iPod for about a month and a half, and haven't had any problems using it or connecting to to my PC. Yesterday I tried to connect my iPod to the computer to transfer some music and was greeted with the message "A USB device has malfucntioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port" and the instruction to remove the device. I have tried using other USB devices in the same port--it works fine with a mouse, a printer, and an external hard drive--and moving the USB cable for the iPod to another port. The iPod does not work with any port--USB 1 or 2--even though the ports work fine for other USB devices. I have tried using a different USB cable, as I had a spare--this also did not work. Is the problem with my iPod? How do I get this fixed?

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

Those converters like the AsanteTalk are notorious for not re-acquiring Printers that drop out for any reason.
Get everything else powered up, then cycle off the AsanteTalk, count slowly to 10, then power the AsanteTalk on last.

  • HT201413 Connected iPod to computer to recharge.  Was told that to syn it on this computer it would delete all data on iPod.  Thinking this mean only music I had on it I ok'd.  Since then iTunes cannot find the iPod.  Help!

Connected iPod to computer.  Started to Syn but came up with if syncing this device may delete saved music.  Accidentally pressed OK.
iPod was originally synced on another old computer no longer in use.

To import music into your iTunes library on the computer go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Add items to iTunes and follow the instructions
Delete the "songs" that do not play in your iTunes library and reimport them.

  • Is there a way to connect ipod to computer to charge but NOT sync

I've recently purchased an ipod nano 4gig. I also have an apple universal dock. We've recently set up a new soundsystem in our business to run off of the ipod dock. The dock doubles as a charging station, which weneed since it will be running all day for 9 hours a day. I have a few problems.
1 - My computer will not start when I have the ipod dock connected (with the ipod in the dock). It turns on... but then stops booting up. Not until I unplug the ipod dock usb connection will the computer then start.
2 - When I then plug the USB cord back in once my computer is up and running, it goes into the "connected" mode, and can not play. not until I "eject" it through itunes. Is there a way to STOP it from going into that "connected" mode. The only reason why I have it connected is to charge it while its playing, thats it. I know I can go through the steps of opening itunes, clicking eject, then starting the ipod to play... but its a business with many staff of varing ages and technical abilities... some people simply wont "get it".
Is there anything I can do other than spend another $30 and instead of connecting the ipod dock to the computer to charge, buy a wall charger for the ipod and connect it to a power outlet instead?

This can happen with some Windows PCs depending on how the start up is configured.

If you had the iPod set to manage the content manually you could play the songs on the iPod through iTunes.
With the manual setting, the songs on the iPod would shown in bold type and be selectable/playable when clicking on the iPod in iTunes. The iPod would also still be receiving a charge.

  • Connecting ipod causes computer to freeze

Hello, I'm not sure which ipod I have (a 20 gig purchased around Dec. 2004). I just got a new computer with Windows Vista because my old one (which my ipod was configured to) died. That computer had Windows XP. I installed the latest version of iTunes on the new computer and tried to connect my iPod to the new computer and it causes iTunes as well as my entire computer to freeze when the iPod is connected via USB. However, when I disconnect the iPod the computer unfreezes. I would like to synch my ipod with the new computer so I can add everything from the ipod onto the new computer. Does anyone know what's going on and how to fix it?

I am having a similar problem. My whole computer doesn't freeze just "my computer" and itunes. But both windows and itunes don't recognize my ipod. I restored my ipod using a mac (erasing all my songs) and re-restored it on my pc. (It did recognize my ipod once I had formatted it on a mac first and asked for a reformat to windows) But it would not sync once I had finished with the restore. Please help?

  • Connecting ipod to computer

I just received a replacement ipod thanks to apple's warrenty. The only problem is when i connect the ipod to my computer (windows), it is not recognized, and the ipod seems to rise in temperature. Any suggestions on what to do?

Unfortunately, there is no one ‘Silver Bullet’ answer for this issue. Many things can contribute to the problem. Here are various solutions that you can try to correct your problem. One should work.
Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Try closing and re-starting iTunes. There have been cases where iTunes refuses to see an iPod, but after re-starting, it works again.
Also try re-booting the entire computer. Especially if the PC has been operating for a long time &/or many programs have been opened and closed, repeatedly.
Other USB connected peripherals may be the cause as well. Try removing all connected USB items and attaching the iPod. If you have a USB keyboard, it may be worth a try using the adapter to convert it to non-USB. If the iPod connects, continue plugging things back in until you have the problem return. You may have then isolated the issue. Sometimes it could be a printer, camera, Flash Card reader, or other attached device causing a conflict.
If your iPod shows up in Explorer under 'my computer' try changing the drive letter: Click on Start=>Control Panel=>Admin Tools=>Computer Management=>Disk Management. Right-Click on the iPod and select “change drive letter”. Choose something further along in the alphabet that is unused. Usually, “M”, “N”, “O” (or something similar).
If that doesn't work, Put Your iPod into Disk Mode then plug it in and you should be able to Restore the iPod
Also try these hints (and the other suggestions above) from any other USB port you may have on the PC. Sometimes switching USB ports can make all the difference.

  • Trouble Syncing iPod with Computer

So, when I plug my iPod into my laptop, it doesn't sync with iTunes. It's as if the iPod isn't even connected at all. However, it seems like the iPod recognizes that it's connected, because it asks me if I want to "trust my computer". The computer itself also seems to recognize that the iPod is connected, because it will automatically open the pictures folder from my iPod onto my laptop screen. But, for whatever reason, iTunes doesn't sync with the iPod, it acts as if nothing has been connected. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

however when I try to sync my older ipod with it and upload some new music to it, Itunes keeps telling me that all the previous songs will be erased
Yes, that's correct. If you don't have the songs that are currently on your iPod also in your new iTunes installation, they will be erased from the iPod if you sync it. Best to start afresh by first transferring all the music on your iPod back to your new computer/iTunes library.
For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod or iPhone to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Other free programs are Pod Player, SharePod and Floola.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.
Once all the music is safely back in your new iTunes library, you can sync your iPod as normal.

  • Itunes crashed too Blue Screen when I connect Ipod to computer

My Itunes crashes to the Windows blue screen of death whenever I connect my Ipod to Itunes. I have ran tried both the solutions that are posted in the support section of this website, but none of those solutions seemed to work. I have an Ipod Classic and am running the latest version of Itunes (8.02 I think). The error code that comes up in the blue screen is:
    STOP 0x0000007F (0x00000008, 0x80154000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is quite frustrating.

Did you follow through all the links on the page?
You need to give information about exactly what you have tried in order for someone to help you.
I do not have an iPhone and know nothing about them so I can't give detailed help.
In general you tend to get BSOD with low level problems such as drivers or hardware issues. Are you up to date with the downloads from computer manufacturer's download site for your model of computer? If you follow the links there are various suggestions about the sorts of things that could cause trouble.
If you are getting a blue screen stop, it would help if you could post the exact error message. It should be some sort of numbers and text -
    0x(zeros/letters/numbers) (CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
    For example:
    Stop 0x05 (INVALIDPROCESS_ATTACHATTEMPT)
Also is a file name mentioned in the error message? If so give the exact file name. This is very important as it may identify the driver causing the trouble.
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), you can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Settings" button in the "Startup and Recovery" section
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Trouble Connecting Ipod Touch to Itunes

    Hey Guys
Having a bit of trouble with my new Ipod Touch I bought over the weekend... hoping you could help me out.
Basically my ipod will be recognised by itunes but when it tries to sync I get the error message
"The ipod cannot be synced. The disk could not be read or written to."
After discussing it with Apple Support, I connected the device to another computer, which connects with the ipod and syncs fine. After looking in the device manager and seeing that the ipod is not appearing, they are claiming that it's an issue with the windows driver for the usb2 port and theres nothing I can do and to call windows support.
The strange thing is, when I buy songs by wifi on the itunes store via the ipod touch - when I connect the device that song will transfer back to itunes no problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I've updated itunes and ipod software, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and deleted temp directories.
