Trouble connecting ipod video to itunes

I recently had a problem with my ipod video (sad face, exclamation point blah blah blah) and exchanged it to get a brand new one at the apple store. I tried to connect my new ipod and here's what happened (and didn't happen):
(1) the screen on the ipod just shows the regular menu and shows the battery charging, then after a while goes to the "battery charging" screen.
(2) the ipod doesn't show up in itunes.
(3) I tried running diagnostics and ipod connection status is red and failed
(4) It doesn't show up in My Computer
(5) I've unistalled and reinstalled itunes, I can't restore my ipod because it wont show up in itunes. When i put it into disk mode, it just shows the "ok to disconect" screen.
*IT WOULD BE GREAT IF ANYONE COULD HELP BECAUSE THIS HAS BECOME FRUSTRATING!!*

You might want to exchange this one for another.

  • Having trouble connecting iPod Touch with iTunes 8.2

I have a first generation iPod Touch 16GB, before the recent 8.2 iTunes update (or it may have been 8.0, I tend to ignore those annoying 'please update now messages')my iTunes worked properly, and the Touch would sync whenever I connected it.
Now when I connect the iPod to my computer it no longer shows up in iTunes, the computer (running Windows Vista Basic) recognizes the iPod is there, and the iPod charges properly. iTunes itself however is oblivious.
I've tried completely reinstalling iTunes like the support page suggests, but the problem persists, it is getting quite annoying now since I cannot get the new 3.0 OS update or put new music on.
    Can anybody help?

I have the same problem, but mine won't even take a charge from the computer, or my docks. I have to plug it into a wall wart usb charger and then it works fine. Can't get my computer to recognize/sync it since the "upgrade" to 8.2. The only responses worth a crap on this topic say to just be patient because it is now a known bug they are working on. IMO I wish Apple would stop acting like MS and stop releasing stuff that hasn't been properly beta tested. This glitch has occurred for thousands of users, and any basic cross platform testing process should have revealed this problem in the first 5 minutes. Yet ANOTHER embarrassing POS from the "new" Apple.

  • Trouble Connecting Ipod Touch to Itunes

    Hey Guys
Having a bit of trouble with my new Ipod Touch I bought over the weekend... hoping you could help me out.
Basically my ipod will be recognised by itunes but when it tries to sync I get the error message
"The ipod cannot be synced. The disk could not be read or written to."
After discussing it with Apple Support, I connected the device to another computer, which connects with the ipod and syncs fine. After looking in the device manager and seeing that the ipod is not appearing, they are claiming that it's an issue with the windows driver for the usb2 port and theres nothing I can do and to call windows support.
The strange thing is, when I buy songs by wifi on the itunes store via the ipod touch - when I connect the device that song will transfer back to itunes no problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I've updated itunes and ipod software, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and deleted temp directories.

  • I am having trouble moving a video from iTunes on my PC to my iPod (4th gen).

I am having trouble moving a video from iTunes on my PC to my iPod (4th gen). Is it a problem that it is in the "Home Videos" section? I go into the "Home Videos" sections and drag the video that I want so that the bar comes up, move it over to the device and let go. All that happens is it flashes a few times and then nothing. No error or anything.

  • How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(7 and using VISTA).

How do I get songs from iPod(video) to iTunes(i'm using iTunes7 and Vista).
I don't have the disc, cause i can't find it. But my computer downloaded the ipod, it just cant find the files?
i've been looking through the topics for the past hour and none of them helped. Maybe i'm stupid i dont really know, but i've restored my old computer a couple times and i found a post and it helped both times. now i can't find it anymore.
THIS IS THE ONE I'VE BEEN SEEING AND IT DOESN'T HELP ME ONE BIT:
Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.
Can someone give me a link, or tell me one that shows step by step.

Here is a way of doing it, for another take on this, search the forum for posts by Zevoneer.
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61148
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.3/en/2586win.html
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • When you connect ipod nano to itunes is there a way to stop it deleteing the albums on it if they are not on my laptop anymore

when you connect ipod nano to itunes is there a way to stop it deleteing the albums on it if they are not on my laptop anymore

Yes, do not set it to automatic sync, and if these albums are purchases in iTunes, then you need to transfer them to your iTunes library. If you attempt to sync the device the music sync is one way, only from the library to the device. If this is music you did not purchase, but is on the iPod, you will need to get some 3rd party software to extract it from the iPod to put in the library. Touchcopy from Wide Angle Software is one choice. I have used it before and it does a lot more than music, and it works on both the Windows and Mac platforms.

  • Unexpected "Connect iPod touch to iTunes" screen

I powered off my 2G Touch before flying to Argentina; then powering up again on arrival brought up a new-to-me "Connect iPod touch to iTunes screen", which no amount of button presses would get past.
Luckily there was a PC where we were staying, and with iTunes installed, and with USB, so I was able to get going again, esp. since I'd disabled automatic syncing, though now everything was in Spanish. But,
Q1: does anyone know what this screen really means?, and why it might have come up? [a wifi router was nearby]
Q2: would a hard reset [hold sleep/wake and home buttons for 10 sec] worked to get past this screen?

I have the same problem, getting the 'connect' symbol or icon while travelling. I just got off the phone and an unsatisfying conversation with Apple support. Apparently, this is a "rare?" problem that is caused when there is some kind of software failure on the iPod Touch, and that there is no way to get around it except connecting to iTunes on some pc somewhere, ideally your own PC and iTunes. This happened once before for me but I was home and just plugged it in. The iPod recovered, connected and synced with no error message at all. The rep at Apple support said there is no log or trace that can be retrieved, so the mysterious iPod Touch software failure will remain unknown. He said I could take it in for warranty service, but who knows if they could reproduce the problem. Maybe the new iPhone/iPod Touch software version will run better (or worse). ps, I tried all possible combinations of hard reset on the unit, but nothing else works to recover.

  • Please HELP, "iTunes has stopped working" error after connecting iPod video

People please help me out!  I have a Razer Blade gaming laptop with Windows 8 64bit.
I have an iPhone 5, iPad 2 and an iPod video (80GB).  I had some weeks from not connecting the iPod to my computer, but this morning that I did so I can upload some new music to it, iTunes just crash, I get the "iTunes has stopped working" error message when I connect the iPod video.  I do not have this problem with either the iPhone 5 or the iPad 2, when I connect these, iTunes works fine, once I connect the iPod, then all goes down
Procedures that I already tried and that were unsuccessful to solve the problem:
    Uninstall Quicktime
    Uninstall iTunes and reinstall
    Reset the iPod (several times)
    Delete TEMP files on computer
    Restart the computer (several times)
Use a different cable and a different USB port
The iPod is working fine, if I plug it to my car stereo or if I use it with headphones it works great, no problems nor errors.  My computer also identify the iPod as a hard disk, no error messages from Windows, it is just the freakin' iTunes that freezes everytime that I plug the iPod
PLEASE HELP ME OUT, I've searched forums on this particular issue but with no luck.
    Thanks very much!

It is only when I attempt to add a song to my iPod once plugged in that I receive the error "Itunes has stopped working" and forces me to exit the program, without the song being successfully transferred.
Do you have the "Convert to 128 kbps AAC" preference enabled for syncing to the iPod, laur?
If so, it's quite plausible that you've got the iTunes 10.1.0.54 bug and we need to get you updated to 10.0.1.56 as per the following document:
[iTunes 10.1 for Windows: iTunes may stop working and need to quit while importing or syncing audio|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3591]

  • ITunes 11.1.1 freezes when I connect iPod Video

Ever since installing iTunes 11 on Windows 7 laptop, I can't plug in my iPod Video (5G) without crashing iTunes.  Every update to iTunes does the same, including 11.1.1.  My iPod works fine.  iTunes 10 works fine (on a different computer).  No way am I putting 11 on the other computer until this is resolved.

Well, I'm pleased to say that I solved the problem (but not the mystery).  I tried all our Apple iDevices on my laptop (with iTunes 11.1.1), and they all worked OK, except the abovementioned 5G Video (including another 5G Video that I had).  When the 2nd 5G Video worked, I realized the problem lied with the 1st iPod, so I did a "Restore" (to original settings), and that seemed to do the trick.  I didn't think to do this before because the iPod worked fine otherwise, and worked with the old iTunes 10.7.
But here's the rub:  I HAD to use the old iTunes 10 to do the restore...because iTunes 11 crashed before I could do a Restore.  So, the mystery may never be solved, but at least all is now working.

  • Connecting iPod Video to mac

I have a black iPod Video 30 gb and recently when I try to connect it to my mac the ipod battery symbol says charging but nothing happens on the computer. The icon doesn't appear and iTunes doesn't recognize it. The symbol on the ipod that says do not disconnect also doesn't show up. I have tried it in both usb 2 ports and I have tried resetting the ipod and restarting the computer with it plugged in but to no avail. Does anybody have the same problem or can help?

This usually indicates that the iPod doesn't have enough of a charge yet to start up. Try plugging it in and leaving it plugged in for 15-20 minutes. It should automatically start up after it has a fair enough charge.

  • Error when connecting iPod Video

    Hi
I have owned my iPod Video for a couple of months now, and my Macbook for 6 months. iTunes and iPod have been working well together, no problems. However today when I connected my iPod into my Macbook, iTunes freezes for about 5 seconds then "quits unexpectedly". I tried using both USB ports but with the same outcome. I have attempted this about 5 or 6 times now, each time iTunes freezing then quitting as soon as the iPod is connected. Any help would be much appreciated.
PS. Just tried copying a file to my iPod through Finder, and it copies fine. Seems to be an iTunes issue?

Thanks Zevoneer, but no real success. I did all that but when I tried to sync after it, it got partially through the sync (about 10% I'd guess) and presented an error message saying that the disk couldn't be read form or written to (sorry but I forgot the error number). I disconnected the iPod, waited a few minutes then reconnected and again got the message but then the ipod continued to finish the sync, even though almost all of the music and 2 of my 4 videos didn't go over to the iPod. I'm now thinking that this just isn't satisfactory reliability from the device since I use it a lot in my work and rely on it. But this new iPod is only a few months old, had very little use and only made about 12 recordings - In comparison, I've used the Nano heaps but now want to move over to the bigger one, basically for more capacity and bigger screen for video. I wonder if it's a hard drive failure in this iPod?

  • IPod video gives itunes the can't read or write error

I bought my iPod Video through the apple store shortly before Xmas. Since i was sepnding the holidays with my GF, she uses ugh windows. I formatted my ipod with windows, and got some songs on it and started using it.
When I came back, around 3 weeks ago, I cleared it to get it working in my powermac, but it gave me this read-write error, so i made a system restore and re-populated it with all my music, video's, contact info and calendar stuff.
Two days ago i got some new music, and (i also installed the dreaded 1.1 update), I tried to update my ipod with iTunes and i got this error in itunes saying it couldnt read or write to my ipod. Weird, I thought, but i restored it to factory settings. When I tried to import some music, it gave me the same error. Now I cant put any music at all!!!
What could be causing this problem?

  • How to connect ipod touch to itunes on Mac OS 10.4.11

My desktop (Tiger Mac OS 10.4.11) will not recognize my ipod touch in itunes thus preventing downloading of music to the ipod. The ipod is recognized in iphoto and is brought up automatically when attached to the desktop. The connection is via usb directly to the desktop. Are there any ideas on a fix for this problem?

If the iPod has iOS 4.2 or greater you need to upgrade the operating system on the computer. To find version go to Settings>General>About>Version
IOS 4. to iOS 5 requires OSX 10.5.8 or greater
iOS 6 requires 10.6.8 or later
If you have a 4G with IOS 6 10.5.8 may work. See:
ios 6 and macosx 10.5 on a pre intel...: Apple Support Communities
OSX 10.6.8 requires a Mac with an Intel processor
To purchase the OSX upgrade disks you have to call Apple since they are not listed in the on-line store.

  • Connecting ipod video to mac and windows???

I have recently purchased an ipod video, i have two computers, one mac and one windows, the mac has my music on and the windows has ripped dvd's on which can be converted to ipod video compatible files. can i connect my ipod to both computers and add the files i wish from each one???
    Many Thanks

    Yes.
There's two ways you can do this.
    1. Format the iPod using the iPod Updater on the Windows XP machine. This will make the iPod Windows-formatted, and it can be used on a Mac or a Windows machine.
The downside to this is that performance will suffer on your Mac. Transfers and mounting times will be slower and longer.
    2. Keep the iPod formatted for Mac. Since Windows cannot read an HFS+ volume natively, you'll install third-party software on the Windows machine (such as MacDrive) which will allow a Windows machine to read/write to a Mac formatted volume.
The downside to this option is cost and stability. MacDrive is not free, and who knows how Windows will behave in the long run.
Here's an article from Apple regarding using your ipod on multiple machines:
