Trouble connecting KIN Onem to my computer/Zune

When I plug my Kin Onem to my computer it is not recognized as a Zune device. Every time I plug in the phone I get the 'found new hardware' message. I select the 'locate and install driver software' option (as the other options got me nowhere). I get a 'KIN installed' 'ready to use' message. The Zune program does not recognize it and I can not find any way to manually pair them. I am beyond frustrated at this point. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

If you get Zune and it doesn't work, well, that's where Zune gets an F for execution.  You have to manually fix the driver.
I had the same problem. I followed this and it worked. I am using Vista.
If the Windows Device Manager indicates a device problem, or if the version of the device that is installed is not the current version, you must update the driver. To do this, follow these steps:
Right-click KIN or USB Device , and then clickProperties .
Click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall .
If it is displayed, click to select Delete the driver software for this device, and then clickOK .
Click the root computer icon, and then click Scan for hardware changes on theActionsmenu.
Right-click KIN , and then click Properties .
Click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver .
Click Browse my computer for driver software .
Click Browse , locate the Program Files\Zune\Drivers folder, and then clickOK .
Click Next .
If you are prompted, click Install .
After the driver installation is complete, click Close two times.

  • Kin Twom shuts down computer when connected

I searched this forum and cannot find a solution to my problem. I can open up Zune with no problem. Then when I connect my Kin Twom to the computer via USB cable, it would try to connect then shut down my computer every time I connect.
I did not have this problem before until now. I even updated the Zune software to no avail. Anybody have a solution to this problem?

    Hi Adonis,
I understand your discontent; I would be frustrated if my computer powered off when I connect my phone to it. Since the issue appears to be with your computer, I would recommend removing the Zune software completely and then re-installing it as some files may have become corrupted and are causing your computer to power off. Keep in mind that we are not able to troubleshoot computer software/hardware issues.

  • I'm having trouble connecting my iphone to my itunes on my computer

So for christmas I got an iPhone and currently, I'm having trouble connecting my iPhone to my iTunes on my computer. If I get on my computer and open my iTunes, I can use it perfectly fine but once I tried to connect my phone to it, it told me the software needed to be updated before it would work with my phone. I went to the website and tried downloading the updated version 10 times but every time it told me it couldn't connect with an apple device or something. So then I tried just going to my downloads and stuff and moving the actual song straight to my phone but it would always tell me my device has ended or has been disconnected. All I'm trying to do is move some songs onto my phone from my computer. They weren't purchased straight from iTunes so it's not showung up in my "purchased" on my phone. (I think I got them from amazon and some are cds that I my computer that I got years ago. Maybe thats why they don't show up in the purchased?) Anyway, how can I fix this? I have a windows computer if that can help at all. Thanks!!!

Also, I just opened my iTunes on my computer then plugged my phone to the computer and a box popped up saying "This iPhone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device is not started"
I have no idea what that means.
I don't have that option on the side that says what device is connected so I can't sync or anything.

  • Having trouble connecting computer to TV with sound

I have a 2010 macbook pro and a samsung LN40B550 LCD HDTV - having trouble connecting computer to TV with sound - I'm not sure which connectors I need and have purchased a few that aren't working (HDMI: DVI cable & Mini - DP to DVI adaptor).  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sorry to tell you that DVI does not support sound.  You either have to use a HDMI cable (with the appropriate adapter) or tap your audio output port with a 'Y' type cable configuration for sound.
    Ciao.

  • Virus??? computer having trouble connecting to internet

Last week, my son's school computer got a virus, and sent me about 50 copies of the same email message. Since then, things have not been working properly on my macbook. Safari is telling me it can't connect to the internet, even though the network diagnostic tool tells me there is no problem. Mail is having trouble connecting too, and my idisk is suddenly inaccessible. I wanted to restore to a previously saved backup of my personal settings that I have been saving to my idisk but backup said it couldn't connect to the idisk. Backup also gave me a scary message when I had no choice but to abort the "restore".
I've seen lots of messages here claiming that there are no mac viruses, but if that is the case, what could be going on here? I already rebooted several times, and repaired permissions on the hard drive. any other suggestions???

Hey, Mort, thanks. I did find clamxav last night on the web and left it running this morning (I'm at work now.) So we'll see what it has or has not found when I get home later. It didn't allow me to just run the software on my whole hard drive, though, I had to choose folders. I chose the system and library. Do you have any other ideas about where the virus (if it is a virus) could be living?
I'm not sure if my system has been updated. I run "software update" once a week so perhaps it has already happened. I'll check tonight.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen  trouble connecting to my Win-Vista 64bit computer via USB.

    Hi,
I seem to have an issue with my iPod Touch 4G. Ever since upgrading to iOS5.
The iPod Touch has had issues connecting, via direct USB, to my Windows Vista 64 bit computer.  When I connect it, via USB, the computer will report the iPod Touch 4G as an "Unrecognized Device."  This prevents me from using the USB to sync the iPod or charge it via the computer's USB connection.
My work around is to turn off the iPod (via red slide bar method) then connect it to the USB.  At this point, it in it will automatically re-start the iPod and then it will recognize and sync or charge.  I can also connect it have it report as an "Unrecognized Device" leave it connected, turn it off(red slide bar) and turn it back on and it will also connect charge and sync.
The problem is that I must turn it off every time I want to connect it.  I can sync via wi-fi (but this causes issues with music that others have shared with me-keeps asking for their i-Tunes account) (happened after I "re-set" the I-Pod).  I needed to hard sync with the computer to make all the rights work out.
This same USB cable and computer works just fine with my other iPods (Touch 3G, Classic) and my iPhone 4S.  Only problem device is the Touch 4G.  The problematic iPod and same USB cable works without issue on other computers (i.e.:  don't have to turn it off and then plug it in).
I've followed the apple instructions and sequence to remove I-Tunes and a bunch of other related software and then reinstall it.  I've reset my iPod. Nothing corrects this issue with this particular iPod.  I've changed USB ports, tried other USB cables nothing changes the fact that I have to turn off and back on the iPod Touch 4G each time before I can get it to be properly recognized by the computer and thus charge or be recognized by iTunes.
This only started to happen to the iPod Touch 4G after I upgraded it from iOS4 to iOS5.  I also have iOS5 on my iPhone 4S - with no issues.  My other iPod Touch 3G is using iOS4.  It connects and syncs fine.
I've figured out a work around but, does anyone know how to fix this issue?  Thanks

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

  • Trouble connecting Ipod to computer (USB)

I've had my iPod for about a month and a half, and haven't had any problems using it or connecting to to my PC. Yesterday I tried to connect my iPod to the computer to transfer some music and was greeted with the message "A USB device has malfucntioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port" and the instruction to remove the device. I have tried using other USB devices in the same port--it works fine with a mouse, a printer, and an external hard drive--and moving the USB cable for the iPod to another port. The iPod does not work with any port--USB 1 or 2--even though the ports work fine for other USB devices. I have tried using a different USB cable, as I had a spare--this also did not work. Is the problem with my iPod? How do I get this fixed?

  • G15- trouble connecting camera to computer to upload photos.

I am suddently unable to connect my G15 to my computer to upload photos. I've tried a new cord but still, nothing is happening. Any suggestions?

You might need to reload the driver file for the camera. What computer operating system are you using? Windows 7, or maybe a Mac? Would need to know more about the computer to give good advice.

  • Trouble connecting to computer from another

my roomate has a domain name attached to our IP... dont ask me why, but it's crackbaby.homeip.net
Note: we're on a LAN here and my computer is hidden so I setup port forwarding. Public port is the # of my choice and I made private port 22 (basically, from my understanding, if the outside world specifies the public port, then go into 22 on my computer)
    Method 1:
    ssh -D port user@host
where port is the public port, user is my login on my mac, and host is the domain name.
It appears to be trying to connect to my roomate's computer, which is a demilitarized zone (exposed to the internet. our ip = his computer) even when I specify the port. This is telling me that I can connect to our network but I'm unable to get to my OWN computer.
    Method 2:
I turned on Personal File Sharing in Sys Prefs, forwarded the two ports it uses and tried to use "Connect to Server... afp://xyz" but it just sat there looking for my computer.
It's a lot of info to digest but I'd really like to get this figured out as I'm leaving town for a few days and will likely want to access my computer. I dont care if it's via a Terminal program (although I'll have to use one for OS 9 and there's no telling how limited I am on one of those) or 'afp' or whatever

Here are two more things since that post:
After doing some looking around, I edited /etc/hostconfig and added SSHSERVER=-YES-
also I tried -p instead of -D in the SSH command:
    ssh -p public-port user@domain
(I told the router to forward Public-Port to port 22, which is what SSH uses)
Here are some things to note:
Without myself adding forwarding, I turned on Web Sharing (uses port 80)and I connected to the server using the domain name just fine.
Using another computer on the LAN, I was able to connect to myself via FTP by using my local IP, but using the domain name and accessing the FTP over the internet didnt work.
**I dont care so much about which protocol I use while Im out of town but I'd like to be able to get this access working and figure out what's going wrong.

  • Trouble connecting to and from my work computer & home computer

When I first bought my iPod Touch, I could easily not only connect it and sync/load songs etc. from my home computer, I noticed and real good feature in that I could connect it to my work MAC as well. I have an iPhone now and i noticed you can't do this. It asks you to sync the iPhone and all data will be lost if I choose to do so. When I connect it to my work computer all the fields are grayed out. This ***** if I can't go to and from from home t work with my new iPhone when I could so easily with my iPod Touch. Any feedback on this would be much appreciated.

Some info and a bit of detail about your network set up would be helpful. How are you connected to the internet? Cable modem? DSL? Is there a router involved? Are you connected via ethernet or airport?

  • Kin ONEm--email syncing problem

I have a Kin ONEm, and I use email and the Web browser over a WiFi connection. A week or two ago, I started having trouble with the "Email" app (which I have synced to my yahoo email account). When I select "Email", my inbox starts to come up, but then it inexplicably takes me back to the main screen without showing me my inbox.
I have tried to see if I could fix this by deleting this email account from my email settings (with the intention of adding it back in and seeing if it would work then), but it just tells me it is "Deleting & signing out..." but it never finishes doing that.
For now I have been able to get around this problem by checking email through the browser, but I was hoping to eventually get the email issue fixed.
I read a post from someone else who was having this trouble and "fixed" it by going to a Verizon store and having the person reset their phone. I don't want to do that and lose all my contacts and other settings, so if there is a better fix, please let me know.

Oh my goodness...Christina, I'm happy you're trying to help out, but please don't assume that things that would work on most other VZW phones will work on the KIN.  Unless I'm mistaken, two of the three suggestions you gave will not work.
    1) When I connect my KIN to my computer (Widows Vista), the only thing that will recognize it is the Zune software.  It does not show up as a normal USB drive that you can simply copy files to/from.   Now Zune will certainly allow Erink to transfer his photos, videos, and music.  However, I don't know of a way to use it to transfer contacts, which is what he said he was most interested in.
If you know of a driver that will let us use the KIN as a simple attached drive, please let us know.  On the other hand, I do recall in some previous topics here that some Verizon stores have the ability to backup and restore contacts on the KIN.  But you have to go into the store to do that -- and find store personnel that know about it.
    2) Your suggestion to forward text messages to an e-mail address would be fine -- if the KIN had the ability to forward texts.  It does not.  The only way to do that is to take a screen shot of each "conversation", then you could transfer the resulting jpg images to your computer using Zune.  You'd wind up with a bunch of jpg images which you might be able to read, but you couldn't really restore them as text messages.
Once again, we appreciate that VZW reps try to help out here -- but please be more careful to ensure that your advice is valid for the device in question.
If I'm wrong about any of the above, you have my apologies.
    Thanks.

  • Kin onem- daughter wants -is this a good phone?

Hi, I am a first time user so please be patient. My daughter has a Samsung Intensity and now wants to upgrade to a Kin Onem. I, however, am technically stupid. Is this a good phone to get? I believe she wants a decent camera, touchscreen and maybe internet. I heard she could get this option for free on this phone.
She gets Itunes a lot, texts a lot and does take pictures. I think the internet is the main factor this time....Is there a better one (phone) or another one with free service or is this a good choice for her? Also, do you know if you can purchase this phone in the store or do you have to order it and have it shipped in? I also read you have to enter all your contacts. Is this true?
What are the pluses and minuses for this phone in "simple" English! Thanks.

Yes, this is a good phone. That is the short and easy answer. I am assuming you are looking for a phone that does not require a data plan (that costs extra). Other smartphones are MUCH better, but require that data plan, so if you do get data, do not get this phone. Get and android, windows 7 phone, blackberry, etc. But this is the ONLY phone w/out data.
Like said above, i would recommend the Twom over the Onem, simply because it has the larger screen, more memory, better camera, etc. But, that is all personal preference, if your daughter would rather have a squarish, smaller phone, then the Kin Onem is better suited.. My personal flavor is, i like the longer, rectangular phone shape, i am much more familiar with it, and it fits the hand better. The Kin Onem is $20, and the Twom is $50 with a new line/plan/contract, but for a one-time charge, that really isn't that much and is worth it in my opinion (and if you qualify for the 'new every two', you get $100 towards a single phone, that is how i got one of these for free).
This phone is sold in stores, but they do not have them out on the 'floor' in most, if not all stores. I only imagine that it is sold in actual verizon stores, not resellers such as bestbuy, mall stands, etc. I got mine in stores last week, but i had to ask them specifically for what i wanted. They had a test device, but they had to charge it up int he back room before i could play with it. Many believe that they are just trying to clear out their inventory of devices from the first time around, when they sold less than 60,000 devices, but i think they have alternative plans too. I hope they are seeing if they sell or not (and if more people knew about a non-data phone with wifi, they would sell like crazy in my opinion), and if they do, then they will re-start production of hte phone, market it, and most importantly, add support for the software/firmware and provide updates to fix its problems.
You heard right, this phone does not support backup assist at the moment (transferring contacts application from verizon). However, some (it should be all in the near future) stores have recieved system updates that allow them to transfer contacts with a hard-wire connection from your old phone to the new Kin, you would just have to ask your local store if they have recieved the update. I have learned, be very specific when talking to sales reps, know what you want, sound confident, and then they will help you. Most sales reps do not know all the details, but what do you expect, their main job is to sell phones (although it would actually boost their numbers if they made sure all employees provided good customer support..hint verizon). At worst, they will have to contact their manager/supervisor and they will hopefully be more helpful.
Long story short, this phone has wonderful features.
    -8 MP camera
    -720p HD video
-very responsive, well built capacitive touchscreen
    -full QWERTY keyboard
    -full Zune music/video player
    -FM radio
    -and most importantly, Wifi
You will have to manually block data if you do not want any charges appearing, but that is not too hard, and it saves any headaches of a ridiculous phone bill (without a data plan, you by default sign up for a pay-per-use plan, at a ridiculous $1.99 per MB rate..thats about $2 per webpage browsed). That is explained in my review/FAQ (linked below). This phone was originally released at the beginning of the summer as a smartphone, with an emphasis on social networking, and it failed miserably, so Microsoft/verizon have rebuilt its software and released it as a feature phone.
The physical quality of this phone isn't top notch, but it is relatively sturdy. The front portion of the phone, the touchscreen, is built very well, with high-quality plastic that does not feel like it will break, even with a few accidental drops. The back (battery cover), however, does feel weak, and is made from a slippery, thin plastic. That is nothing that a case can't fix, though, and they sell for as low as $4 ($1+ $3 shipping..so if you do order online, purchase screen protectors and other things all at once, because the shipping costs much more than the actual case).  The phone hinge is decent, it has a quality-spring action to it, but there is a little wobble in the hinge (although the spring almost completely covers that up). The keyboard keys are 'clicky', and responsive, it has a quick repeat time on keys, which i really like.
The biggest issue with this phone is not the actual phone, it is the abundance of firmware bugs/poor design and quality check before it was released. It all depends on if your daughter will be bugged enough to not like this phone, despite its awesome features.  I am hopeful that microsoft will release firmware updates to fix these issues, but if not, many of them have work-arounds and aren't that big of a deal anyways. So, yes it does have those problems that you see other people talking about, but they are very minor compared to how nice of features you get with the phone. Some of the major bugs/poor software quality include:
-backup assist (transferring contacts) does not work
    -no forwarding messages
    -can't delete individual messages
-volume buttons don't lock when phone is locked
    -can't delete or rename ringtones
    -etc.
I have created a more detailed, albeit VERY long, full review of the device, its quirks, pro's, and fixes/workarounds. If you have time for some heavy reading, or want more information, here it is:
    http://community.vzw.com/t5/KIN/Kin-TwoM-Review-FAQ-Q-amp-A-troubleshooting-etc/td-p/347662
I hope you find the best device for your daughter. I can provide my opinions, and i love this phone, but get the phone that she would like the most.
