Trouble Connecting to Cable Internet

Recently I have been unable to connect back to the internet with my cable modem. A few months ago I tried using wireless internet from houses around mine and surprisingly it worked. (I realize this isn't TOTALLY legal.) Anyway, I have been trying revert back to the cable modem and nothing is working. I turn off the airport. I have restarted the computer. I have restarted the modem and waited the 15 minutes. I had unplugged the cable when I was using the airport obviously and twice I was able to plug it back in and it would work. This isn't the case anymore. I hadn't changed any setting so I'm not sure what the problem could be. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Now when you plug your iBook directly into the modem, the internet works. Correct? Which Airport do you have? Try resetting your Airport. Below are some more links that should be useful...

I didn't know what Airport you had, so I included all of them. Select your model and try reseting it. If worse comes to worse, just do a Factory Settings Reset. You will have to configure it like you just took it out of the box. I have found that this usually fixes most AirPort problems.

  • My Mac can't find the server when I connect to cable internet.

My Mac can't find the server when I connect to cable internet. Ethernet is fine, the problem is that Safari doesn't open the login/password window. Can anybody help?

The system administrator of my network has had the following solution - to help open the window for the login/password I tick "web proxy" (and enter the information for web proxy server) in "network preferences - advanced - proxies", enter the login/password and then untick it to open webpages. A little complicated, but it works, and that's the only solution so far.

    Hi Hogdays,
I know how frustrating it is not to be able to connect to the internet.
Below are the troubleshooting steps to try to figure out why:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
I would follow the steps in order, but this section is specific to your error message:
If you're unable to join a nearby Wi-Fi network
Try restarting your Wi-Fi router by turning it off and then on again.
Note: If your ISP also provides cable or phone service, check with them before attempting this step to avoid interruption of service.
When joining an 802.11n Wi-Fi network, ensure that your router is properly configured. See this article for more information.
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Note: This will reset all network settings, including passwords, VPN, and APN settings.
    Hope this helps ....

  • Trouble connecting WRT300N to internet

Been at it for a few hours, just got this router and I'm having a field day with it. Everything is plugged in right, but whenever I try to get an IP address or connect to the internet through the setup, it won't recognize that it's connected to the internet. Plugged in my BEFSR41 wired router and it works just fine. So I don't get what's going on.

Connected the Modem to WRT300N using Ethernet cable at the Internet port of router.
Connect another cable from either 1-4 ports from back of router to the computer.
Open routers set up page using http://192.168.1.1 …..You will get username & password ….leave username blank & in password use admin.
    Try to configure the router.

  • Trouble connecting to the internet...

    Hiya chaps
A query for a friend of mine who was lucky enough to get a black macbook £350 cheaper than retail...
Trouble is, she cannot get it to connect to her internet. I don't really know where to start. But i know that she gets this message
"the selected network uses an access control list to restrict access and this computer is not on the list"
I presume this means that she just has to add her mac to the access list on her main computer.
Just wanted to know of any better ideas. Apologies if this question is slightly vague, but i'm aware that the members of this forum are extremely helpful...
    Thank you
    Nick
    Macbook 13'3" Black   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Indeed, she most probably uses an authorization system for her network, so that she has to add the MAC-address of each computer which is allowed on the network manually.
Of course I don't know how she configured her network (router, other method,...) but I do know that some routers offer this security option; so you have to add the MacBooks MAC-address to the "allowed-list".

  • Having trouble connecting to the internet

Hi everybody for the last month or so my internet connection has been disconnecting from the internet. I’ll open Safari then a error message appears telling me that I am not connected to the internet. All 3 lights on my modem are green indicating that the Modem (2wire home portal) is working. I opened ND to try to fix the problem the status settings indicate that ISP failed, and server failed. I called Apple technical support for help but they blamed the modem for causing this to happen. I went out and bought another modem hoping that a new modem would fix the problem, but it did not, Same error message “ you are not connected to the internet.” I called my ISP about 10 times there are no server outages in my area. I ran numerous hardware test to see if the hardware was corrupted, all test came back negative.
I am using a 2wire home portal (Non wireless) I have a Intel i mac core duo maxed out. I have no software installed on this computer ( other then the software that shipped with the i mac. I never download anything off the internet (Not even a widget) I don’t what else to do... I don’t want to take the computer to a Apple store because I’m most cretin that nothing is wrong with the computer plus the nearest Apple store is almost 200 mile away from where I live.
Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.
I Mac Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

This is frequently solved in the Network section of System Preferences. Assuming your "Location:" reads "Automatic" then verify your Network Port Configurations. I don't have a cable modem setup, but imagine "Built-in Ethernet" is what you're using, and if so, that should be primary. Be sure to "Apply Now" once a new setting is selected.
If you recall set-up, did your iMac discover the connection immediately, or was it necessary to add information to the Ethernet panel? Since your network was functioning before the iMac set-up, the iMac should have discovered it on its own and you should not have had to enter any info.
If that was not what happened, I'd scrap the Network settings, return all to defaults, and start over with the iMac discovering the connection on its own.
    Edit-
One other thing that might be different from your PC's, check the Energy Saver's Sleep panel to see that you have unchecked the "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible" and see if that helps at all.

  • Need help getting my G-4 to connect to cable internet

I inherited a G-4 Power PC from my son about a year ago. At that time it would automatically connect via built in ethernet and cable to my cable modem, although I would have to re-boot the modem and restart the computer 2 or 3 times. Now that I need to start using it since my G-3 running OS 10.3.9 won't download Flash 10, the G-4 refuses to connect to the internet automatically or manually.
Do I need a different IP address for each computer?(I use suddenlink cable internet) I plugged in the numbers from my G-3 and get the message that I'm connected to the internet but when I open a browser I get the message that I'm not connected. Can I re-boot to an earlier time when the connection worked?
Only occasionally do I get the message that another application has changed my settings.
Sorry to run on, any help appreciated.

Your isp was remembering the prior ip address. The reboot of the modem forgot the ip address.

I think you have run into the security update problem.

  • Clamshell Cannot Connect to Cable Internet

I have an iBook Clamshell, PowerPC 750, 300MHz, 512mb, 288mb memory, OSX 10.3.5 and for the life of me I cannot get it connected to my cable internet. I did once before several months back, but cannot any longer. My router and modem are all working as they should. When I go through my network settings, my Built-In Ethernet is showing up with correct IP address and router address. I'm not sure if I'm missing something or what. Any thoughts or ideas?

Have you verified that the ethernet port has no bent pins ?
Maybe you should use a different lan cable and check that it is a regular lan cable and not a Cross-over cable.

  • 2501 router connecting to cable internet?

    My topology looks like this:
    Cox cable internet cloud -> Motorola Cable modem -> [e0] 2501 router [s0] -> [s0] 2501 router [e0] -> 2924 switch -> host
My mission is get connect to the internet. But its been all fails so far. The e0 port on the 2501 router does not offer "ip address negotiated" command. I figured that would be all I needed to do since I get an ip address assigned dynamically by the cable company.
I could hook up a linksys router to get the ip dynamically, then copy that information over somehow onto the 2501 router to get connected. Would that help at all? By looking at the linksys router I can determine what the public ip address is, the DNS, gateway and subnet. It is NOT PPPoE.
    Thanks for any help.

In case you're wondering here's the output from "debug dhcp detail". And YES I have the same topology as the original post, this router is directly connected to the modem using ethernet. I will call Cox today to see if they know.

Cable company is telling me my mac has a problem connecting to the modem.  Will not connect to a dynamic IP address.  Any ideas on what is wrong.  I can connect fine at Best Buy and wirelessly to my neighbors but not to their modem in my home.

    Log into your modem.
    check the settings.
have cable co check that their last drop point has a good signal and is this a rental modem from them or yours? and is there any fimrware update?
When did it start having trouble?
And have you thought of posting in the macbook  pro forum as well as over on Snow Leopard OS support?

I can connect fine to my wireless network with my iPad, but I can't get out to the internet.  All of my other devices in the house are getting out fine (Mac, iPhones, Windows PCs, Apple TV).  The problem is recent with the iPad (last two weeks).  I've tried forgetting the network, re-establishing the network, resetting the network connection.  Not sure why the iPad is the only device that can't get to the internet.  My ISP is through comcast cable.  What else can I try?

When you input your password, what did you use?  If you haven't yet, provide the encryption code from your router.  The encryption code is usually a 10 - 13 digit code, which is often comprised of letters and numbers.  Try it and let me know if that solves your connection issue.
