Trouble connecting to excisting wifi for airplay

I want to use my stereoset for airplay but can't seem to figure out how to connect my airport express to the wifi.
I have an Airport time capsule router (A1355), Airport Express 802.11n (A1264), a macbook pro (OS X 10.9/mavericks) and my airport utility is version 6.3.2 .
When I power on my AE and connect it with an ethernet-cable to the Airport router, (I read on some blogs this needn't to be done it wasn't in the setup manual)
but the light keeps being amber for a few minutes then flashes green one time and keeps being amber after that. And nothing appears to be getting it in my Airport utility on my mac. It appeared one time and then it started to adjust to the airport but then an error occured and the internet quit and never showed up again in my airport utility on my mac.
- Reseting the AE didn't do it for me.
- I tried resetting the default settings of the base station.
- I tried different settings on my Airport time capsule.
Can anyone help me make my airport express work as an airplay on my stereo?

I would recommend that you perform a "factory default" reset on the AirPort Express. Allow it to restart, and then, remove it from power. Then temporarily connect it to the Time Capsule using an Ethernet cable. Finally plug the Express into power.
After a few minutes your Mac should find the new base station in the OS X menu bar's AirPort drop-down menu. Select it and the AirPort Utility should start up. From there you should be able to follow though the automated steps to configure it as a network client for iTunes streaming.

What TC do you have? Model number direct from the base is a big help, it will be A1 followed by 3 numbers.. eg
A1409 Gen 4.. The new AC is A1470
    How is it setup?
I need the whole network setup. what modem/router, how is the TC connected etc??
I also need to know what IP the ipod gets, so I can see what mode the TC or network router is working in.

  • Trouble connection to certain wifi APs

So I've been having trouble connecting to some wifi access points over the last half last year or so. The weird thing is that my notebook stopped connecting to one AP which works for other devices, used to work with the notebook and now it connects to some networks (like eduroam) but refuses to connect to others, like my access point at home. Other distributions and operating systems, like Kali Linux and Windows 8 connect fine to the same access points on the same notebook.
My hardware is a Thinkpad Edge E325 with this network controller
01:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n WiFi Adapter [10ec:8176] (rev 01)
The kernel is the latest stable 3.16.4 and wpa_supplicant is 2.2-2, but I think it's been happening since somewhere around linux 3.13.x.
The logs I could gather are useless to me. Here is NetworkManagers  journal output:

This problem might actually solve itself, since I'll probably give this notebook away in a few weeks, but I'd still like to find the reason for this.

Well, that's quite a drastic solution so I've saved it for last (Recovery Mode).
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

I have an ipod touch 3rd generation 64gb and it has iOS 5.1.1 and it will connect to my WiFi for a few seconds and then nothing will load. It says I have full connection bbut nothing works. I have 2nd generation ipod and it connects fine. Along with my laptop and xbox 360. I have tried downgrading it and restoring it from itunes. I also tried forgetting the network and inputting it myself but it sti does the same thing. I even tried resetting my wireless modem but it still didnt make a change. I really could use some help. I can't call apple cause im no longer under warranty.

Reset the iPod and connect to its syncing computer.  It it shows in iTunes restore the iPod.
Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mod will allow iTunes t see the iPod so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

How big do you believe an ATV is?  They are tiny compared to most devices.
The ATV is the only AirPlay receiver, short of an actual AV receiver with AirPlay support, but those are MUCH larger.

  • HT2497 Using Time Machine for home wifi just fine. Switched to cable modem from DSL.  Now having trouble connecting laptops to wifi. ISP says it is not their fault. Mac books won't connect on their own.

Changed from DSL to cable modem. Now Mac book pro won't connect to wifi - Time Machine?
One Mac ok, other not. Help?

Thanks. We have been using an existing Time Machine for wifi.  Cable modem replaced DSL router and was hooked up to Time Machine. What's odd is that 3 computers and iPad2 are connecting to home wifi just fine, using exact same network and password as before. My Mac book pro and an older iPad are not. IPhones are also connecting to home wifi just fine. I managed to get my Mac book pro hooked one time by copying ip address from a Mac that was working (entered manually) then turning that one off. That's not what I need.
The error message is "no ip address".

  • I am having trouble connecting to my wifi-

I am having trouble connecting to my locked WIFI linksys account via my personal PC. I tried the authentication code via linksys with no luck. Any suggestions??
    Thanks!

If you have ever connected to it go to Settings>Wi-Fi>press on the name of the network and press Forget This Network.  Then reset your phone (hold on/off and home buttons together for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple logo, release and wait for it to restart) and go back and try to joing your wifi again.

  • Trouble Connecting to Public Wifi in airports

    Hello,
I've been having trouble connecting my Macbook Air to public wifi in several airports (Denver, San Diego most recently). I select the SSID and get the signal just fine. When I launch Safari or Firefox, I see a redirect to an authentication page - but it never comes up - it just hangs.
Using my iPhone and Safari, I can connect just fine. When the iPhone browser gets to the redirect screen, it comes up with a dialog box asking to accept a security certificate.
On the Macbook, I never get asked about a certificate. I can't find any settings that change this behavior. I am not blocking pop up windows blocked and I am accepting cookies.
Any ideas on how to resolve this? I see lot's of other Macbooks in the airport browsing away so I know I must be doing something wrong.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hi,
Have you tried "Renew DHCP Lease" under TCP/IP?
    Best of luck.

  • Trouble connecting to specific WiFi network

Starting a few months ago, my iPad mini has been having trouble connecting to my home WiFi network. At first I figured it was my WiFi, but I've tried resetting iit, which did not correct the problem. Also, oddly nobody else had trouble connecting. My boyfriend's iPad and both of our iPhones have strong connection everywhere in the apartment. Obnoxiously, my iPad can connect to every other WiFi network in our building with strong connections, just not mine!
I have tried resetting network settings and did a full factory restore but I'm still experiencing the same issue. I can't decide whether it's an iPad issue or a WiFi issue. Nobody else has problems with the WiFi, and my iPad doesn't have problems with any other connection!
Here's what is actually happening: to connect to my network, I have to literally set the iPad right next to the router until it connects. Immediately after I walk away, it drops down to 1 bar and as long as I'm within that room, I can use my iPad. Once I leave the room, the connection is lost.
It's driving me INSANE. Please help with suggestions or similar experiences
ps. This has not been an issue caused by system upgrades as it has been going on for several months and has finally driven me crazy enough to get help, haha

You have a wifi signal; it's just very weak. That suggests two possible causes:
    1. The iPad case. In some cases, a case may interfere with the wifi signal significantly. Remove the case, and test the wifi again.
    2. The wifi antenna. In rare cases, the wifi antenna will become dislodged or torn; they're fragile strips of filament.
The iPad case is easy to fix. The antenna requires more skill, and urge you to use an experienced professional.

  • I'm having troubles connecting to my wifi at home. I have the 4th Gen. iPod touch. My screen is cracked, does this have anything to do with it? I recently had a trip down to LA, and before my trip the wifi was working fine. Is there anyway to fix this?

the wifi works perfectly fine on all my other electronics, and I've already tried reseting and moving the router. The wifi signal is only strong if I am within 5 feet of the router.

    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost

  • Trouble Connecting to Home Wifi

I just bought a Belkin N+ wireless router. I am able to connect to the wifi on my laptops, but I am not able to connect on my ipod touch for some reason. I have the security settings on WPA2 and i'm required to use a security key to connect to the router. I've tried the security phrase on my ipod touch with no luck. I then went to "other" on network connections on the itouch and setup that the network is WPA2 and I still couldn't get on.
When i take the security settings off of the router (ie: no password required to get access) i am able to get on with my itouch.
Does anyone know if there are issues with this type of router with the itouch or with using the WPA2 security? I can't figure this out.

I use the same router and have had no issues. Typing problem with your password maybe>

  • Trouble connecting to a WiFi network in OS X Mountain Lion

Why is it that sometimes I cannot connect to a WiFi network unless I move that specific network to the top of the list of my preferred networks under a profile in my WiFi settings?  I dont understand it because OS X Lion had the same problem.  Sometimes when I am connected to a WiFi network, it acts like it isn't connected, and I can't use Safari or any other interet-based application.  It gets me so fustrated!

After countless hours, and two hours of a phone discussion with MSU support, the support person figured out the issue.
There are two articles that I am sure explain this much better which I will place in this post. Read the articles to their entirety if yo want to know what is going on. My original understanding of the root cause was actually incorrect. However, the fix seems to work.
The fix was fairly easy. Basically I had to load FireFox, and load the webpage from MSU that was sending the certificate. Then export that certificate, import it into the keycahin, then mark the cerificate as "Always Trust".
I actually did this for two certificates: guestlogin2.wireless.msu.edu.crt and dhcp.msu.edu.crt. I had to do this for each user on the account, and reboots were required. It seems to have fixed the issue. (3 MacBooks so far)
    http://superuser.com/questions/349740/mac-os-x-lion-10-7-2-update-breaks-ssl
    Useful clip from the above:
In my experience this happens only when connecting behind a captive portal. I think the reason is that the operating system tries to validate the certificate of the captive portal's login page, but the validation process requires internet access. I was able to fix this problem by manually adding the certificate of the captive portal page to the keychain and marking it as always trust.
You can export the certificate with the following steps:
Visit the captive portal page in Firefox
Select Tools > Page Info > Security > View Certificate > Details > Export
Save the certificate to your hard drive with the extension ".crt"
You can import the certificate with the following steps:
    Open Keychain Access.app
Drag the certificate from Finder into a keychain
Double click on the certificate and expand the "Trust" section
Choose "When using this certificate: Always Trust"
    Close the popup window
If you cannot open Keychain Access because your keychain is corrupted, turn off wireless, delete~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain and /Library/Keychains/System.keychain, and then reboot.
    Another article:
    http://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/37829/why-wont-my-macbook-pro-connect-t o-wi-fi-networks-that-use-a-sign-in-page-capt
    Clip from the above:
Export the captive portal's SSL certificate with the following steps:
Visit the captive portal page in Firefox Select Tools > Page Info > Security > View Certificate > Details > Export Save the certificate to your hard drive with the extension ".crt" You can import the certificate with the following steps:
Open Keychain Access.app Drag the certificate from Finder into a keychain Double click on the certificate and expand the "Trust" section Choose "When using this certificate: Always Trust" Close the popup window.
Some folks reported corrupted keychains from this problem; I have not had that issue but if you cannot open Keychain Access because your keychain is corrupted, turn off wireless, delete ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain and /Library/Keychains/System.keychain, and then reboot.
