Trouble connecting to specific servers

I don't believe this questions has been asked recently, but on my laptop (running 10.4.8), i am having trouble connecting to my school's servers, specifically the Mail and Blackboard servers. From any other computer, and even while running Windows XP on my laptop, it works fine. Thanks in advance!

I am having a problem with Blackboard also. I am able to log in and can read the discussions but when I write a reply or try to post a new thread it looks like it worked, my name is there, but none of the text I wrote is there. I also tried the Powerbook my friend has with the same problem
I have no problem making it work on my work (non-Mac) computer.

  • Trouble connecting to specific WiFi network

Starting a few months ago, my iPad mini has been having trouble connecting to my home WiFi network. At first I figured it was my WiFi, but I've tried resetting iit, which did not correct the problem. Also, oddly nobody else had trouble connecting. My boyfriend's iPad and both of our iPhones have strong connection everywhere in the apartment. Obnoxiously, my iPad can connect to every other WiFi network in our building with strong connections, just not mine!
I have tried resetting network settings and did a full factory restore but I'm still experiencing the same issue. I can't decide whether it's an iPad issue or a WiFi issue. Nobody else has problems with the WiFi, and my iPad doesn't have problems with any other connection!
Here's what is actually happening: to connect to my network, I have to literally set the iPad right next to the router until it connects. Immediately after I walk away, it drops down to 1 bar and as long as I'm within that room, I can use my iPad. Once I leave the room, the connection is lost.
It's driving me INSANE. Please help with suggestions or similar experiences
ps. This has not been an issue caused by system upgrades as it has been going on for several months and has finally driven me crazy enough to get help, haha

You have a wifi signal; it's just very weak. That suggests two possible causes:
    1. The iPad case. In some cases, a case may interfere with the wifi signal significantly. Remove the case, and test the wifi again.
    2. The wifi antenna. In rare cases, the wifi antenna will become dislodged or torn; they're fragile strips of filament.
The iPad case is easy to fix. The antenna requires more skill, and urge you to use an experienced professional.

  • MBP Retina 13" trouble connecting wirelessly to servers

A couple of months ago i purchase a new Macbook Pro Retina 13" from Apple directly. In my office i used to connect over ethernet.
For some reason the wifi continues to drop my connection to the file servers here. I can't figure it out. My internet slows to a crawl too. If i restart it will work again but after an hour or so it slows again. I need to access these files constantly so this is a huge issue for me.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello DCToast,
Congratulations on your new MacBook Pro!  Also, thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with connecting to servers using Wi-Fi and the slow Wi-Fi connection on your MacBook Pro.  I would be concerned about this too.
I recommend following the steps in the sections labeled "Preparation," "Symptom: The Wi-Fi network seems slow," and "Symptom: The network connection drops unexpectedly" in the following article to resolve an issue like the one you described:

  • I have tried resetting my photostream several times on three different computers only to get the error message that it can not be reset because of trouble connecting with the servers.  It says the same thing on a sync about contact conflicts.

I cannot reset my photo stream.  The error message "cannot connect to servers" comes up.  I have the same problem with syncing contact conflicts.  I have logged in on three different computer & networks on three different occasions.  What's the deal?

Pure Propaganda to make it look good. Icloud Servers  are having issues since days but today it is definately broken and also for me everything is offline, without having changed one setting.
Look at hundreds of server failures, photostream fails, mail not working..  only recent posts.

  • Weird Airport behaviour when connecting to specific servers on the internet

    Hi Mac-Gurus,
I have a very strange problem with my MacBook Pro which is a Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.2 GHz, bought in November 2007 running OS X 10.5.5.
My WLAN router is a Netscreen 5-GT with WPA2 encryption. Airport Extreme (0x168C, 0x87) firmware 1.4.8.0
When I'm trying to connect to the server 80.239.233.98 on port 3724 (which is a world of warcraft logon-server) the connection cannot be established and the network utility shows receive errors on the Airport Extrme interface en1.
When I'm using the onboard gigabit ethernet there is no problem connecting to the server. Also there is no problem connecting from a Windows XP Notebook via WLAN to the server.
I already tried the following things:
    - I used a packet sniffer on my Netscreen-Firewall showing that IP packets are sent to the server 80.239.233.98 on port 3724
    - the packet sniffer on the firewall also showed answers from the IP and that these are forwarded to the MacBook
    - using tcpdump on my MacBook I can see TCP packtes going out, but an answer is never received
There is no additional firewall blocking traffic on my MacBook, my Netscreen Firewall is not blocking traffic to or from my MacBook.
When I manually enter my WLAN SSID and password and my Mac reconnects then it is sometimes possible, also only for a very little while, to access the server.
There seems to be something really buggy with the Airport Extreme Adapter since I can connect from a windows notebook over the same access point and more worse over the built in Ethernet.
Does someone have the same problem or better a solution for this? I really want to use my WLAN for all applications.
    regards
    Chris

Hello TrevorMurphy. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Typically when you can connect to the network but not to the Internet, your computer was unable to find the DHCP server in order to obtain its IP address information. In this case, this DHCP server would be provided by your home network's router.
I suggest trying the following to "refresh" the DHCP-provided IP addresses on your MacBook.
    System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > TCP/IP > Renew DHCP Lease

  • Trouble connecting Jboss 3.2.4 with Oracle 11g.

We are facing some trouble connecting 4 JBoss servers to an Oracle 11g server. Oracle server is working as a RAC with two nodes. We have two HP server every one of those have two JBoss application servers version 3.2.4. Each one of those application servers has been configurated in order to work with any of the Oracle nodes. We have this connection string in oracle-ds.xml :

We start all the four JBoss servers and every thing is going ok, but after about 20 minutes the oracle connections are reset. The exactly error is like this:

    Hi,
Check if connect string is correct...
I can see csibd01t_vip and csibd02-vip. Is it your vip addresses? Or it is a write error?
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)(FAILOVER=on)(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(protocol=tcp)(host=*csibd01t_vip*)(port=1521))(ADDRESS=(protocol=tcp)(host=*csibd02-vip*)(port=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVER=DEDICATED)(SERVICE_NAME=racdb)))

  • Trouble connection on ONE Mac !?

I restore (from an other Mac) my iMac G4 few days ago. Almost everything was look fine and work after (some minus trouble connecting the 2 Mac Firewire. Probably some Alias I was using for some Utilities who was unable to work properly)
This morning Adobe Updater said he had an update for Illustrator CS3 and ask me to quit Firefox 3. I did it, Illustrator is now update but I can't anymore get an internet connection with the iMac.
Note that *on the same connection*, my iBook connect as usual.(I know I can't connect both in same time. Is always only one Mac connected)
I check the pref. panel/Network. They have both the same Built-in Ethernet configuration.
I need some help because I don't know where to look to fix it.

For a start, type this into the bowser's URL bar...
    17.149.160.49
If that gets you to apple.com, then try putting these numbers in Network>TCP/IP>DNS Servers for the Interface you're using...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Then Apply. These are safer/faster than most ISP's DNS numbers, and have been patched against DNS poisoning.

  • HT201210 is anyone having trouble connecting to the activation server?

is anyone having trouble connecting to the activation server?

All of Apple's servers...including the activation servers are pretty much flooded with users like you doing the same thing. Be patient and keep at it...or wait till the traffic to them has decreased and then try again. Coming back to it tomorrow  (if that's a viable option for you) will likely increase your chances of not having issues.

  • Does anyone have trouble connecting to their wireless network, after being logged on for some time? Mountain Lion.

I am having trouble connecting to my wireless network.  It works when I startup my computer but, after a while it can't seem to find the wireless network. I have an Airport Extreme and the light is green. The only way to remedy this problem is to restart my computer. Mountain Lion isn't that great after all not to mention it distorts some images when scrolling. I am kindly asking for some advice, I assume a major update will be coming soon.

You don't by chance have a "invisible" or "hidden" network enabled on the router?
Because Mac's won't reconnect automatically now to hidden network only upon reboots, it's sort of like advertising the hidden network if you take the computer elsewhere.
Also hidden networks are no deterrent to hackers, they see all.
Also check your time and date, make sure they accurate first, then save that, then make sure it's updated via Apple time servers in your general location (System Preferences > Time and Date) If your being kicked off, your DCHP lease might be expiring too early.

  • Very confusing/random trouble connecting to internet

I am having intermittent trouble connecting to the internet on my Macbook.  I had this issue a few weeks ago, then it started working on it's own, and now it will not connect again.  I have a Dell laptop and iPhone 5 that all connect fine, the problem is isolated to my Macbook.  I have a Linksys WRT54GS router and Comcast is my ISP.  Here is what I have already tried:
Power cycled modem, router, and Macbook.
    Updated router firmware
    Confirmed Comcast DNS servers
Deleted wireless network from Macbook (including deleting all related passwords from keychain) and rebooted. Tried this multiple times.
Ran all OS updates (last time it would connect).
As I mentioned, this happened a few weeks ago and I gave up trying to figure it out.  Last week I booted up Macbook by chance and everything was back to working fine.  Now again today the problem has come back.  If I use Firefox, nothing happens.  If I use Safari, it will randomly open a webpage but it takes several minutes.
I need ideas on what else could be causing this.  It is not an ISP or router issue as I am currently typing this using the same network, just on a Dell computer.
    Please help!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can switch that "link status" to "active"?
Assuming this is ethernet, plug in the cable.
The link active is little more than an indicator that the OS knows something's plugged into the port. If it's inactive then it doesn't see the cable. Either the cable is loose or it's faulty. Might be worth trying another cable.
Bear in mind that the 'loose' connector could be either end of the cable.

  • Im having trouble connecting my macbookpro to the tv. im using a mini display port to hdmi adapter, when i switch tv/video to hdmi on the tv nothing pops up, and i dont have the arrangement tap on the display settings, please help!

im having trouble connecting my macbookpro to the tv. im using a mini display port to hdmi adapter, when i switch tv/video to hdmi on the tv nothing pops up, and i dont have the arrangement tap on the display settings, please help!

I've found that the order of operations, so-to-speak, can be important when hooking up mini display port to HDMI.  I have the most success with the following operations in this order:
    1)  Plug HDMI cable into mini displayport adapter (the cable should not be plugged into either the TV or the computer at this point)
    2)  Plug the mini displayport end of your new super-cable to the computer.
    3)  Plug the HDMI end into your TV.
    4)  Switch inputs on your TV to the proper input.
    5)  If still nothing on the TV, try a different HDMI port on your TV.
    Hopefully this helps!  Good luck.

  • Trouble connecting macbook to N600

We just connected a E2500-NP using a macbook.  All of our other devices (iphone, itouches, nexus, PC) connect and run at regular speed.  My macbook (the one used to install the router) connects but loads web pages incredibly slowly.  We reinstalled the old router to see if there was a problem with the macbook.  It loads webpages at normal speed with old router.  The nexus and itouches have trouble connecting with old router.  The macbook is connected to this website with no problem but if I try to do a search on something else it loads incredibly slowly.
    Please help!!

How did you connect the macbook computer? Is it through hardwired or wireless connection? You can adjust the router’s mtu – by using this link: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=fbf8e8564632422eaa8ea80bf9dcba64_386.xml&pid=80&re... – if the concern is regarding the router’s hardwired connection. You can also use this link: http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider/ to help determine the best channel to be set on the router and to improve the router’s wireless performance.

  • Trouble Connecting MacBook to Netgear WGT624

Hello, I just got a MacBook and am having trouble connecting to my netgear WGT624 wireless router. We've had the router for some time with a PC connected via ethernet. This is the first time trying to connect wirelessly.
    I click on System Preferences.
    Then Network.
    Then Connect.
Under the Network drop down menu, I have two Network choices available...our router's name, and another name, probably a nearby wireless router.
When I choose our router, I get the pinwheel thingy spinning around, and then a message: "There was an error joining the AirPort network "router name here."
When I click on the other nearby network name, I get connected, and the signal strength is 4 out of 15.
What do I need to do to connect to my home's wireless router?

No need to re-install software. There should be a reset button or hole somewhere on the router. Either press the button or use a paper clip inside the hole for about 10 seconds. This should reset your router to all the default settings.
From there, once you log onto your router's setup screen, you will need to put in your regular settings (username, password, security settings, etc.). If you use security, your neighbor should not be able to access to your wireless connection.
    Good Luck.

  • I am having trouble connecting to my network all of a sudden. It is not an issue with the service/router. I keep getting kicked off and getting a ! in my airport... anyone know what's up with this?

I am having trouble connecting to my network all of a sudden. I am able to connect to other networks but not my own. It is not an issue with the service/router because other devices connect fine. I keep getting kicked off and getting a ! in my airport. Last time it happended I called apple and the suggested I wipe my HD and reinstall everything. I did and it did not work. One day I turned my laptop on and it connected no problem. Now it has kicked me off again. I tried resetting my IP address but that does not work either! Has anyone had this problem?

    Try this:
Apple menu / System Preferences / Network.
Click Location: and select Edit Locations..
Click + (plus sign), and enter a name for the new location - anything will do.
    Apply this.
