Trouble Connecting to Wifi (tried averything).

My next door neighbour Carl has gone on holiday and he has given me the password to his wifi so I can use it while he is away on my ipod. I see his wifi on my ipod, put the password in and connect successfully. When I try to visit pages it says "Safari can't open the page because it can't find the server". I have scoured these forums and tried every method I saw. This includes resetting my ipod, restoring default settings, renewing the lease, forgetting the network etc. I can do all I can without physically breaking into his house and fiddling with the modem. When I look at the wifi's settings I see IP address and subnet mask, nothing else has info entered. Also, the signal is very week, before connecting, just the first dot is shaded (as opposed to the lines on the icon). Once I am connected, however, all the lines are bright blue. Can anyone please help me?
The firmware is 1.1.3 and I have iTunes 7.5.0.20
Thanks in advance.

I am no expert guys but it could be they have the wireless set up with MAC filtering. Basically that means you need the MAC setting AND you need to be set up as part of their network. But, maybe another person who is more of an expert in this area could respond to your post.
By the way, the forum has some great information on setting up your own wireless network at home as well as the correct settings for your ipod.
It took me about a week or two to get mine exactly how I want it.
I don't have much info in the way of getting onto another person and/or companies wireless network. I did manage to use it the other day at a local coffee shop that had free wifi service. It was nice. They didn't have any extra filtering so it made it really easy to log in.

  • I am having trouble connecting to wifi networks that are password secured, even though I know the passwords.

    hey guys,
Ok so here is the problem. I am having trouble connecting to wifi networks that are password secured. I am able to connect to public wifi with no problem, but when networks have passwords on them I am unable to connect to them, and I know that passwords. I also know that i am putting the correct passwords in because I am able to connect to the networks on my computer. I have tried turning my phone off and then back on, turning the wifi off and then back on and even resetting my network passwords to no avail. The networks that are secure show up in the wifi list for networks but when I go to put the password in, it tells me "incorrect password for the network". It has never connected to it since the passwords have been put on it. I am out of ideas for trouble shooting. Can anyone else help?!

Try a soft reset by holding in the power button and the home button in at the same time for about 15 seconds until the screen flashes and then goes completely black. Afterwards try and turn the phone back on and see if that works. Also you could try and reset the Network Settings by going to Settings--General--Reset--Reset Network Settings and see if that resolves your problems as well. If all else fails be sure and do a backup through ITunes and then try to restore the device. Hopefully all will be well now.

Did you already try to reset the router?
Did you reset the iPod by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Did you reset the network settings on your iPod in Settings/General/Reset?

connectng with a pin # will not work with the ipad. you need to find out exactly what the actual wifi password is.
pin and push buttons are used by wifi protected setup. which is an optional feture of WPA
    here are some ideas
go to the routers home page (typically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254) and see if you can click on "show password"
get the manual out, it should have the default user name and password you may need to access the routers page
if your windows computer connects, then you should be able to right click the wifi connection and click on show password as well. this is somewhere in the properties page of the wifi connection
also with windows its a good idea to click on "save wifi connection to usb drive" this can be used to connect other windows computers and xbox game consoles as well
if your laptop computer is a mac book you can go to the keychain or icloud keycahin and reveal the actual passowrd as well.
look at the actual router it might have directions on a sticker on how to access the routers configuration pages
if you enter the wrong password on the ipad you need to forget the network and try again

  • IPhone 4 having trouble connecting to wifi with redirect

    Hi all,
I was wondering if someone out there can help me.  I have an iPhone 4 running 5.0.1.  Ever since i upgraded to iOs 5, i have noticed trouble connecting to the wifi at work.  At home and school the phone connects perfectly.  At work we have a redirect page.  When going under safari it just uses my mobile network (which is not that strong).  I check the wifi menu and it seems as if it is "trying" to connect...it shows the grey pinwheel spinning next to the correct netowrk but nothing ever happens.  I try to "renew lease", i turn off wifi, i reset the phone.  Sometimes it connects first try.  Other times it takes HOURS.  I assumed maybe it was just the network, so i attempted to try to connect my nook, and the nook connects right away.  I never touched any settings, but i am very confused on to what may be going on here to explain the type of problem i am having since iOs 5.  Thank you in advance.
    Jenn

You'll need to provide complete details before anyone will be able to offer suggestions.
For future posts, please don't put a lot of excess characters in the subject line. Just a brief summary of the problem - e.g. "iPhone 3GS with iOS 5.01 cannot connect to WiFi" - will be sufficent. I've asked the Hosts to edit out the superfluous junk.
    Regards.

  • Retina Macbook Pro Having Trouble Connecting To Wifi?

Hi, I have a TP Link router with a 2013 2 TB time capusle connected to it.
And My macbook pro seems to be having trouble connecting to the TP Link's network, My 5GHz network on my time capusle, and my normal 2.4GHz network on my time capusle.
When I try connecting to a network it says connecting for about 30 seconds and then comes up with a exclamation mark "!" symbol.
It will randomly start connecting and working, then maybe 10,15 minutes later it drops out for a few hours again. Im not sure what's going on.
P.S Averything else will connect (Macbook air, iPhone 5s, My iMac, My iPad mini ect.
    Please Help!
    James.

When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, from the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, restart the computer and try again. If there's no change, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click  Apply and test.

  • Has anybody bought an Epson XP 205 cause having trouble connecting to wifi

Hhas anybody bought an Epson XP 205 cause having trouble connecting to my wifi (which is sky broadband) I have the Epson app but it cannot find the printer has anybody got any suggestions?

I am so disappointed! The exact samething has happened to me, AND my husbands Touch. We had no problems before, and as you say with 2.1 a little stared - I ignored it because I love and defend my touch. After 2.2 all heck broke loose, I went to the genius bar and of course it ran perfect there. I had numerous screen shoots in one day, 'failed to connect to server, safari server, gmail server' - timed out blah blah blah, so they suggested I call my internet provider, they run a test and everything fine, they suggest I call the router people, ten bucks later and with nothing really showing a problem with the router our Touches still do not work like they used to. I am NOT buying a iphone, I want Apple to fix it or tell me how, it worked fine before what the heck gives, I wish someone could answer honestly.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest, I really hate to switch to Zune as my nephew has been bragging about.

  • New Ipad 2 having problems connecting to Wifi - Tried Everything

Tried to set up my new ipad this morning and connected to Wifi fine. Played on it for 10 mins and then it dropped the Wifi connection. Tried everthing to get it going rebooting, restoring network setting etc etc. After 30mins of trying the wifi section in settings went grey and you could not click on it anymore.
Did a complete restore through itunes and managed to get the wifi connection working again but the same thing happened again after 10 mins.
We have looked at all the different channels on the router and selected the highest signal strength which made no difference.
Very fustrating day, both out blackberrys work on UMA through router, mums and brother iphones both connect to router ok, mac connects ok and my pc connects fine. Please could someone help me before i have a nervous breakdown. Have spent all day trying to get it work and still seem to be a million miles off getting it to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router. Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

  • I have Trouble Connecting To WiFi Network with My Mac, while the rest of the technology connects to it perfectly...

I have used my Mac for almost a year now, and I've always had no problem connecting to WiFi, but today - suddenly I've lost the connection and now I can't see the WiFi Network in the list... I have 2 WiFi's connected together at home - TP Link and Netgear...
The internet still works on a PC which is connected through Ethernet, and the Mac itself works when it's connected through Ethernet... The first thought I had was the problem with WiFi settings, but my IPhone can connect to internet and work perfectly... So next thought was that it was a problem with my mac, but my dad has the same problem with his Mac (he also used this WiFi Network fine before)... So any thoughts?
