  • Convert mod files to mov for imovie

A helpful person on the forum suggested I use mod converter to convert mod files to mov for imovie. I have purchased the program from the internet but am having trouble getting them to respond with registration number so as I can get started. Has anyone had this problem or do you know the telephone number for emisoft which is who I purchased it from.

wuppet, it is unfortunate that this method did not work for you... I have tested this method my self with iMovie 08 & 09 with JVC .mod files.
I can really only suggest a few things:
    1. Make sure that you are changing the .mod extension to .mpg, as I am sure that you did.
    2. Attempt to get the originals from the camera, if they're still on the camera. I know that you say that they're the wrong format but iMovie 08 and 08 both support the .mod files found in JVC hybrid cameras. But make sure that iMovie is opened and running before you attach the camera to the Mac. Also make sure that the camera is set to "playback on PC" once you plug it in.
    3. You can download the free VLC app, this will allow you to view the movies to verify that they're not corrupt somehow. You'll be required to change the extension to .mpg or .mpeg for this app to read the movies.

How do you mean? I wonder if the XP version is the same as the Mac version. I think as a default Handbrake will respect the aspect ratio. It's only the quality you need to decide on.

It is suggested to output MOV with AIC codec to keep the raw video quality at max.
Output like this: Share->Export Using QuickTime..
In pop-up windows, click Options->in Moive Settings pop-up window, click Settings button->In Compression Type box, choose Apple Intermediate Codec
    Good luck.

  • Converting Movie for iPod

So, I have an .MPG file that i want to work on an ipod... but when i do the whole Advanced > Convert Selection for iPod thing which turns it in to an .MP4 file... the sound of the movie goes away.
Is there a way to fix it so it doesnt... or is there another MPG > MP4 editor out there?

If you need help first you'll need to explain a few more things. What version of QuickTime do you have installed? QuickTime 7.0.3 (which adds export to iPod feature) or QuickTime 7.0.4?
I've heard some people had problems with upgrading to QuickTime 7.0.4 - namely they lose their Pro functionality. Also what version of Mac OS X are you running is it Panther (10.3.9) or 10.4 Tiger? How old is your Mac? Is it one of the Intel based Macs released at MacWorld '06 or an older PowerPC based one?
Also what version of iTunes are you running? (This is important) iTunes 6 and higher requires QT 7.0.3 for best video playback. Videos I convert to iPod format using QT's export movie to iPod feature end up in .m4v format (the format of videos sold in iTunes) but mine are unencrypted - no FairPlay DRM.
I am converting my own videos to the iPod's format. .mp4 is another format the iPod can use. If you have ffmpegX (Google it) can convert video to iPod video or iPod TV format.
My videos exported to iPod format in QT 7.0.3 were originally in .AVI format.
Export to iPod (320X240) format = .m4v (MPEG 4 Video)
They work just fine and I have a Mac PowerBook G4 from winter 2003 with OS X Panther (10.3.9) + QuickTime 7.0.3 + iTunes 6.0.2

  • Converting Movies for iPod: No Sound

Whenever I convert a movie for my iPod, there is no sound in the converted file. The original movie has sound, but it is in a form that you can't put on iPod.
By the way, I am using the Convert Selection for iPod/iPhone under the Advanced menu.
    Any ideas??

Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the videos; more information on this issue is available in this article.

  • Convert Movie for iPod-sound disappeared

I tried to convert a video for iPod by using "Advanced/Convert Selection to iPod". After it's converted, the sound is gone. Any idea why? Also, the video quality is bad when I view it in iPod, anyway I can adjust it? Thanks!!

If the videos are multiplexed MPEG files then the audio and the video are muxed onto the same track. QuickTime, and therefore any application that uses QT like iTunes, the iPod, iMovie (Mac app), etc. expect two separate tracks, one video and one audio. So when you play these muxed files, the video is played and the audio is not heard.
iPod plays video but not audio of some exported files
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302588
So you need to do a conversion on the file first. MPEG Streamclip is a popular one that comes in both Mac and Windows versions and is known to "repair" this problem.
See this other link for other applications that might be able to do the same thing. But your root cause is the muxed MPEG files.

  • Convert Movie for iPod

From a DV tape, I used iMovie HD6 to develop a movie for my grandson. One output would be a file for his iPod. In doing this from HD6, the result was 320x240 and not 640x360 as with iMovie 08 and 09. Any thoughts on how to make a iPod compatible movie that is 640x360?

Best way to do this is to use "Expert Settings" in the "Share" menu, then change the size accordingly, this could have an adverse effect depending on the aspect ratio of the original video

  • Converting Movies for iPad2

I have successfully been able to convert movies from DVD to iPod, but when I try to convert for my new iPad, the file is too large to save on my PC. Is the file size really that much bigger or is there some other issue I'm missing?

You've probably got a setting wrong. Your original DVD shouldn't be more than 4-8ish gigs because that's all a disc can hold. Usually when I convert a movie to the mp4 or m4v format they're a few hundred megs to maybe 2 gigs.
You can try tweaking the quality settings on your program to dumb the quality down a bit to save on file size. Also if it's rendering it out full HD size, 1900+ pixels, you don't need it that big to view it on your iPad. Check out the manual for the iPad, see what it lists as an optiomal resolution and aim for that.

  • Converted movie for ipod but no sound!!!

I’ve finally converted all my music videos to apples “.mov” format since they work great in itunes. However for some reason several videos will not transfer to the ipod as itunes says they will not play. The videos that seem to be working were converted to m4p before converted to .mov. I had no idea an apple file (.mov) wouldn’t work on an apple device (ipod), whatever. So I used the “Convert Selection for iPod” for a movie that wouldn’t work. After a freaking long time, 15-20min for a 4min video, it converted it but of course, there’s NO SOUND. Try and figure that one out. BTW, has anyone ever had their question answered on these forums?

  • Trouble converting movies into ipod compatible files

I just got quicktime pro and I'm trying to convert movie files into files that can be played on my ipod... the files are changing into M4V files and can be played on my ipod but they have no sound.. can anyone help me fix this?

Before you can convert the file must play without errors in QuickTime.
If the file is MPEG-1 you'll need to use the free MPEG Streamclip app to convert to iPod settings.

  • Imovie 560 minutes to convert movie for dvd burning.

I spent most of the day preparing a video and slide show project that was then going to be burned to DVD. After all the importing was finished and clips segmented I added transitions and had it looking real good. I then thought I could just burn to the DVD. To my surprise it is taking the Imac 20 560 minutes to prepare the video for burning in IDVD. The question is-- does it take this long or did I do something wrong. I needed the video in a hurry and was really surprised by the time it's taking.
    Thanks "Art"

The question is-- does it take this long or did I do something wrong.
This is probably perfectly normal. The time required depends on the power of your CPU, the display size of the file you are exporting, the compression format you are using, the duration of your project, and whether or not a file of the same dimension has been previously shared and a copy available in the Media Browser.
Basically, exporting a files larger than "Medium" for burning can be a waste of time since VGA content will be scaled up only to be re-saled back down to VGA when converted to M2V by iDVD. While you may see a slight improvement in quality where the original content has dimensions greater than VGA, only you can determine whether or not the increase in quality is worth the difference in processing time. In addition, the default H.264 compression format is very CPU intensive where as if you export to a less complex format (e.g., MPEG4/AAC) the processing can proceed much faster. Having a long project, of course, takes longer to export. Lastly, if you use the same dimension for several different uses, the time can be saved since after the initial export (assuming you do not modify the project), iMovie '08 will simply "apply" the already exported "Media Browser" copy of the project to whatever additional uses you direct.

  • Convert movies in iMove

    Hi Everybody.
I have edited a video in iMovie with some clips. Now that I have this project done, I'd like to convert the file in .avi or .mpg or whatever. It seems that I'm not finding a good way to convert the file. I mean, the quality of the video converted is very low and the amount of Mb is pretty high. For a 3 min video, I have a file converted of 100 Mb, which is too high if you consider the poor quality of the video. I've tried to play with some settings but without great results.
Does anybody have any suggestion for me? Thanks!
    Matteo

Matt, I've recordered some little movies with a sony digital camera (15/20 sec each) in max resolution. They are 250 mb all of them. I've used iMovie in order to put them together and the project file is 770 mb. I'm trying to convert the project in .avi or .mpg file. When I choose, for exemple, .avi file, I can adjust some options such as the bit rate, video size, quality, ect. I put the max level option to have a big file (around 200 mb) and I'm expectibg a good quality. Unfortunately the quality is vary bad (you don't see videos of that bad quality over the Internet). This happens with .mpg file too.
Under your experience, what is, for you, the best choice to convert a video file? Do you have any tips about this?
    Thanks
    Matteo

  • TROUBLE Converting .MOV to .WMV w-Quicktime Pro

I've been using the EXPORT feature to convert a .mov file to a .wmv file but it will only export 30 SECONDS of any .mov file I try!! I also tried converting to a .avi file first. That didn't work either.
    I have Quicktime pro.
    G5
    MAC OS 10.3.9
    I have Flip4Mac also.
Does anyone know how to resolve???
    imac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thanks for the info. Why is is that QT Pro advertises media conversion then if it needs an additional Flip4Mac purchase to deliver the promise ?QT supports the "native" conversion of QT compatible formats and, with certain caveats, limited support to some non-QT compatible formats. Here is the list of SUPPORTED FORMATS. I don't see such proprietary Windows based formats as WMV, DivX, XviD, 3ivX, MS-MPEG4 v1-4, etc. listed among them. QT is not a universal converter any more than GM is a universal maker of auto parts for all automobile manufacturers.
On a separate note, doesn't iMovie do everything that QT Pro promises to do ? If so, is QT pro not needed for people with iMovie ?With regard to conversions, yes, iMovie includes internal access to the same QT structures as the QT Pro Player with one possibly important difference. QT Pro can transcode directly between fully supported compression formats while iMovie must convert them to DV first. This does mean a "double conveersion" is required in most cases and does open the door to possible loss of quality. In addition, QT Pro is capable of a number of file presentation/playback manipulations that iMovie cannot duplicate.

  • Trouble saving movies to imovie

I have a macbook pro I purchased in 06 running OS 10.6.8, imovie version 6.0.3 and Quicktime 10.0. The camcorder is a sonyHDR-XR160. I recently bought the camcorder off craigslist. When I try to save clips into my imovie I get a Quicktime error 1409. I've tried to go straight from the card and camcorder. I've tried saving through the menues and drap and drop. I did get a clip icon on the desktop that is named 00000.CPI

Is this an AVCHD model camcorder?
If so, and if the casmcorder is Mac compatible, the the normal methof importing the content is via one of the recent versions of iMovie which has a special import from camera option that automatically converts non-edit compatible content to edit compatible content. (E.g., HDV and AVCHD content would normally be converted to AIC video and MPEG-2 content would be decompressed to all I-Frame M2V video.) Unfortunately, these import routines will not work with files cimply copied to your hard drive.
On the other hand, depending on what you plan to with the files, other options may be available. For instance, if your primery goal is to simlpy vierw the files on your computer, on mobile devices like an iPod Touch, iPhone, iPad, or TV, or if you want to upload files to the web, then a free application like HandBrake may be just the thing since it can usual convert such content H.264/AAC content in MOV, MP4, or M4V file containers. Such content would also then be edit compatible in any Apple video editor (iMovie, FCE, or FCP) but might not yield the best quality results since this work flow does not provide the best intermediate compression format for editing if the edited results are to again compressed a third time.
