  • I am receiving an "Unknown Error code (-3) for the song (Don't Fear) The Reaper when I try to convert to AAC format when I purchased it from itunes so if someone wants to help me out please feel free

I am receiving this error code on a song I purchased a few days ago and all i want is to listen to the song and itunes has been giving me more problems than i would wish to talk about lately so if someone could help me fix it that would be great if not i hope itunes and apple decide to fix it because it is ******** that a song i purchased from THEM doesn't work on THEIR service.

    Q1-
    3. Will the data on my iPod be preserved?
No. You will receive a replacement iPod that will not contain any of your data, songs, or after-market personalizations. Before you submit your iPod for service, it is your responsibility to keep a separate backup copy of the data stored on your iPod and reinstall that data.
    From:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/#warranty7
Q2- Updating iTunes should not change/delete your library.  However, thisngs sometimes happen.  You should have the computer files backed up
Q3- When you update an iOS, the first step is making a backup of the iPod.  However, the backup does not include the apps themselves or music since those are always synced to the iPod from your iTunes library.  You need to use a third-party program to copy the non-iTunes purchased music to your computer.  That is the way it is.

  • Is there a way to convert my current library, which is in AAC format to MP3? and is this a good idea?

my current library is in aac format. about 250 gigs. I was wondering if it would be better to convert to mp3. I noticed my audio discs do not play on alot of older players. Will converting help this or should i just stay with AAC?

You can convert AAC to MP3 in iTunes.
First go to iTunes menu, EDIT/PREFERENCES, go in "Import Settings", under 'Import Using', select MP3 Encoder, then OK and OK.
Now highlight song(s) in music library, right mouse click and select Create MP3 format.

  • Want to convert .aiff files (8 cds) to .aac format without duplicating

I ripped an 8=cd set to .aiff and added these to my iTunes library, but forgot how large it is on my iPad. Is there a way to create a "mirror" of the 8 cd set in .aac format? If I convert tunes per cd, I end up with duplicates in that folder (1., 1., 2., 2.). I'd ideally like one .aiff version of the set and one in .aac. I'd relabel them accordingly, and also sync accordingly.
If that's too hard I would be happy with just substittuting the .aiff files with .aac ones. Not sure that is possible.
I imagine I could copy the files to an x-drive, delete what i have in the iTunes folder, and then reimport as .aac. Perhaps that's easiest?
    Thanks.

Not what I prefer to do. Ideally it would be to have one version of the 8 cds in AIFF and another labelled differently and in AAC.
The best I have found is here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/8258383#8258383, ie to use smart playlists, convert everything to aac, keep both sets, but restrict which ones go onto the ipad (AAC there, not AIFF).
This is ok, but messy in one way: my music library shows one CD with duplicates of each track, each in a diff. sample rate. So, playing them via iTunes becomes more complicated. Not happy with this solution.
I don't have the original cds here at the office, only the files in AIFF. There seems to be no good way to import the files AS aac; when you add them, they come out in aiff.
THere must be a way so that you can listen to either format as you like all from one library.

  • HT1473 If I have accidently downloaded all my CD's in AIFF format and want to convert the downloads in my iTunes library to AAC format to reduce the sIze  in gb's on my laptop is this possible or do I have to down load it all again in AAC format?

If I have downloaded all my CD's accidently in AIFF format and created a massive 330gb file on my laptop, can I now convert the downloaded files to AAC format or do I have to re load all the CD's in AAC format.................help?

You can convert them.  No need to re-rip the CDs.
The original rip to AIFF maintained all audio quality of the CD.  An AAC that you get from converting an AIFF or from re-ripping from CD will be equivalent quality.  But since you already have the AIFFs, converting will be much faster.
A few specifics of the conversion process have changed in iTunes 11, so check this guide:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Save a copy of a song in a new file format
Note that the process creates a new AAC but does not remove the original AIFF.  If there is no future use for the AIFFs (which I assume is true in your case), you can just delete them from the library after the conversion is done.

  • HT1473 I get a message the songs are in wma format and iTunes will convert them to AAC format - do I select Convert or Skip?

I get a message the songs are in wma format and iTunes will convert them to AAC format - do I select Convert or Skip. I ripped new CDs I bought using Windows Media Player and they are saved on my C drive. I have done this before but cannot do it now.

If you want to play them in iTunes, choose "Convert."  This will allow iTunes to create new AAC versions and add those new versions to your iTunes library.
The original WMA files will still be in the folder(s) wherever they currently are.  iTunes will ignore the WMAs once it has the converted versions.  It is then up to you if you wish to keep or delete your WMA origninals.

  • TROUBLE CONVERTING AAC

I WANT TO BURN SOME OF MY PLAYLIST ONTO A MP3 CD (MY PLAYLIST IS IMPORTED IN AAC FORMAT). WHEN I HIGHLIGHT THE PLAYLIST I WANT TO BURN, I RIGHT CLICK AND SELECT "CONVERT SELECTION TO MP3". THERE IS A STATUS BAR UP TOP THAT SAYS CONVERTING AND IT USUALLY TAKES 10-15 SECONDS TO CONVERT EACH SONG. HOWEVER WHEN I TRY TO BURN IT TO A CD I GET AN ERROR MESSAGE THAT SAYS IT CAN'T BURN MP3S BECAUSE NONE OF THE SONGS ARE IN THAT FORMAT. I'M USING ITUNES 5.1. ANY IDEAS?

    Dustin,
Have you actually created a PlayList with all the songs in that you want to burn?
Select all the songs and drag them to the navigation bar on the left. Once there, you should be able to click on the playlist and then click on the burn button in the top right hand corner - it should then prompt you to insert a blank cd and it will start to burn the playlist.
Also, it is possible to burn cds purchased via the itunes store using itunes. It is the same process as I have described above, grab the album or tracks to the navigaion bar and click the burn button.

  • Difference between AAC and m4a files, converting from AAC to useable format

Does anyone know the difference between AAC and m4a files? iTunes has an option to use an AAC encoder to compress CD files, but this creates an m4a file not an AAC file. I just got some actual AAC files and iTunes cannot read these, is there a way to convert from AAC to a format that iTunes recognizes? Thanks

iTunes uses AAC data wrapped in an MPEG 4 container file. If you got some *.AAC files, and they're just raw AAC files, then you need to wrap them in an MPEG 4 container. The only way I know to do this is using the foobar 2000 program. You can find more information at http://www.hydrogenaudio.org and http://www.foobar2000.org

  • Problems Converting to AAC

I am having troubles converting files (or importing files for that matter) in AAC format. When I select iTunes preferences, advanced, and "importing," the drop down menu has no AAC selection. It only allows me to choose AIFF Encoder, Apple Lossless Encoder, MP3 Encoder, and WAV encoder. I am running iTunes 5.0.1 and Quicktime 7.0.2.
I called the AppleCare line and no one could help me. They even had me delete iTunes and reload. But it didn't solve the problem. They are simply stumped.
    Anyone? HELP!

If anyone ever reads this and has the same problem, I fixed it by deleting Quicktime and reinstalling the software.

  • HT1329 How do I convert an AAC music file to mp3?

Hi: I have several albums on my new computer (G5 desktop running OS10.58) iTunes 9--that are in AAC format. When I try to burn these albums, the prompt tells me I can't burn them in mp3 unless they come to the burning in the mp3. I didn't realize the former owner set the import of music cds as AAC. Anyway I want to  convert all my albums that are in AAC to mp3 cause I can't play my music burned cd in AAC in my cd player. In OS panther there was a menu option to do that. In this version of itunes on this computer, the only menu option is to turn a file to AAC. Hummm. Now what do I dp?Any help would be greatly appreciated. Carol

Correct.  iTunes can only burn an MP3 disc from songs already in MP3 format.

  • How do I sync protected AAC formated songs to my Ipod

I have a 4th Gen iPod Nano and I have over 90+ songs listed in my Library that I notice have a "Protected AAC format" heading what ever that is), which WILL NOT sync and copy to my Ipod. I paid for ALL these songs previously and now, evidently, I can't copy them to my Ipod?? This is hogwash!! I havee tried everything....backed up my entire library to cd's, formated my iPod, restored my iPod, de-authorized my computer, re-authorized my computer, you name it, I've tried it. Nothing works.  These songs evidently are no longer on the ITunes store because they were studio versions of songs of American Idol songs, or other "protected" songs. This is crap! They don't TELL you this when you go to buy their songs!
Can anyone help me rectify this problem, get around iTunes "rules"....anything that will get my songs ON my iPod?   Oh, I can't even convert them to MP3's to reinstall them back on my iPod like the directions say!  What good is iTunes if you buy songs and you can't copy them to your iPods?   Maybe I should have stuck with a regular MP3 player where I can buy music anywhere and play it on anything without all the "rules and regulations!"
    Thank you!
    A very unhappy, frustrated customer,
    Cheryl White

The new Genius mixes do not sync to a 4th gen nano.

  • ITunes 10.7.0.21 (and earlier) on Windows 7 64bit crashes when converting to AAC

iTunes crashes very consistently whenever I try to convert songs to AAC format.  Sometimes I can get one or two songs to convert before it crashes, sometimes it's on the first song.
I have had this problem for over a year now, on every version of iTunes since I first installed it.  I have tried reinstalling iTunes over itself, uninstalling it and installing it again, etc.  I've been through Google and Apple Support Communities multiple times and none of the suggestions have helped.
I am hoping someone has had this problem and found a solution that they can share with me.

I had the same problem.  New iPhone 5, had to install iTunes 10.7 on windows 7 64 bit.  The install worked, but it crashed immediatly after startup (no window, nothing.)  I tried repairing the install, and still nothing.  When I read the post above, I saw that it was Quicktime related, and remembered I was also prompted to upgrade Quicktime too, which I chose NOT to do.  So I went back and upgraded quicktime.. and VOILA.. it WORKS.  iTunes now runs, and I'm in the middle of restoring my old iPhone to my new one.  (fingers crossed)
