Trouble creating a PDF/x-3:2002 in Indesign 6

I am trying to create a pdf for Blurb.com (book printing online). I am using their plugin for Indesign which provides their specs for proper layout. I designed the book, got my client's approval and now that it's time to creat the pdf it holds up. When looking at background tasks I was able to get to 18% done last week but now it's not showing any progress. I've tried their pdf settings as well as PDF/x-3:2002 which they say will also work but I get the same results. I've checked my images and made them as small as possible. I've worked with them on the problem and after a week they said it's not their problem and I should contact Indesign. I am desperate here because my client is waiting for her books and is getting impatient. Thank you.

This is the link to the plugin for Indesign users
http://www.blurb.com/indesign-plugin
I am checking your suggestion now to see if it's my file or their settings. So far I was able to create the pdf/x-4. Now I'm looking up the transparency flattening. Just found the instructions and I'm going to do that then check the pdf according to Blurb's instructions.

  • Forcing InDesign Server to create a PDF/X-3:2002 PDF. Is it possible?

    Hello everybody,
    I am actually working on a project where ADs are coming from a external system; this system has a "bug": it creates EPS files with included images (as expected) but it leaves inside that EPS files OPI comments.
    This will cause the Adobe InDesign Client (CS4, 6.0.5) to show this message when exporting the indd doc as PDF using the [PDF/X-3:2002] preset (or any other PDF/X preset because OPI comments are not allowed in PDF/X files):
    http://idisk.mac.com/lucabassini/Public/adobe/forum/Picture2.png
    When receiving this message, the user can click on the OK button and save the PDF anyway.
    Now look at this .jsx I produced for testing purpose:
    var myFolder = "/c/test-files/";
    var myDoc = "abobe-testcase.indd";
    var myPDFExportPreset = app.pdfExportPresets.item("[PDF/X-3:2002]");
    var myDocument = app.open(File(myFolder + "/" + myDoc));
    var myDocumentName = myDocument.name;
    var myPDFName = myDocumentName.replace("indd", "pdf");
    var myLinks = myDocument.links;
    for (i = myLinks.length-1; i >= 0 ; i--) {
         var myLink = myLinks[i];
         var myLinkName = myLink.name;
    var myNewFolderPath = myFolder;
    var myNewPath = myNewFolderPath + myLinkName;
         var myNewFile = new File(myNewPath);
         if (myNewFile.exists) {
              myLink.relink(myNewFile);
    myDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.pdfType, File(myFolder + "X_" + myPDFName), myPDFExportPreset);
    myDocument.close(SaveOptions.no);
    The script will end at the bolded line and the message I can see on the InDesignServer console is represented by this:
    http://idisk.mac.com/lucabassini/Public/adobe/forum/Picture1.png
    Don't care about the message in Italian, it's the same represented by the English dialog.
    My question is: is it possible to force the creation of the PDF? Because actually I didn't find any possible solution to accomplish it.
    Any help would be very appreciated
    Best Regards,
    Luca Bassini

    I had confirmation that this is actually not possible by javascript.

  • Trouble creating a pdf converting Word doc ..."Could not find the application that created the file"

    Hello,
    I am working with Acrobat Pro 8 and am trying to create a pdf by converting a word doc. When I try that, I keep getting an error message, " Could not find the application that created this file...please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer." I can always convert a word into pdf first and then insert it into the pdf project that I am working on, however I have multiple files and I really would like to bypass that long step.
    I found another thread in this forum which talks about a simillar issue (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/429585).I tried the solution suggested there by Bill@vt regarding the print menu. I am not really sure if t have distiller installed, so I tried opening it in acrobat, but it failed. During the process, I got the follwing message "Check the Status column for a list of files that could not be printed".I do not have any clue how to check for AcroTray running in the background.
    I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

    If Distiller failed to open, it sounds like you need to do a repair of your Acrobat installation. Have not heard that one before!

  • Having trouble creating a PDF (Mac User)

    In Acrobat, I get an error message when I try to create a PDF and select a Word file.  The error message tells me that my file is corrupted (not the case) or incompatible with Adobe (not sure why that would be).
    The only way I can do it is to open Word and then print or save to PDF.  But I want to successfully create a PDF from within Acrobat.

    Once you have the WORD file in a PDF as you have done, try the Forms>Start Form Wizard (assuming you have this on the MAC). As I understand it, you can not create a PDF from DOC within Acrobat on the MAC since it requires PDF Maker that is not part of the MAC Acrobat system. Some MAC users should be by eventually to clarify or correct my comments.

  • Creating a PDF with a watermark from InDesign CS3

    Hello,
    I have a question on exporting or printing a PDF file that will have a watermark.
    What I'm wanting to do is take a InDesign file (and/or Quark file) and export/print a PDF file that will be in low res and have a watermark placed on it. (for a "Review" copy)
    I am aware that I can place a watermark on a PDF file with Acrobat Pro, but it seems like I need to make the PDF file first then place the watermark. I am wanting to do this in the exporting/printing step all at the same time.
    Thank you any information.
    Scott Isbrecht

    OK, maybe I need to reword the question.
    I have a full version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.
    I am wanting to take a file/book that is in Indesign/or Quarkxpress and make a PDF file that is in a lower quality/resolution that also has a watermark "review stamp" on at least the front cover, if not on every page. (would like it on every page)
    If there is not a way to export a PDF file out of InDesign or Quarkxpress this way, can it be done by printing a .PS (postscript) file and have Distiller create the PDF file?
    I would like to keep the InDesign/Quark file "As Is" in a final print ready format, and be able to produce a smaller "review" PDF with a watermark on each page of the PDF file. (watermark on cover page only would be OK)
    This way there is no chance of this file making its way to a full scale printer and it being printed with a low quality PDF (review copy).
    Any information would help out.
    Thanks,

  • Creating a PDF with an editable section InDesign

    Hi all
    I have created In design documents which i would like to dsitribute to contacts in a PDF format (they dont have indesign software) with an editable field for them to add their contact details. ...tell me this is possible pelase and how!
    Thanks
    Alison

    At the risk of going into Acrobat forum territory I would add two important points:
    1) If, after you created the form, you want to make changes in the original InDesign document, you need to use the Replace command in Acrobat so you don't have to redo the whole form again.
    2) When you have finalised the form you need to save the PDF in (Acrobat X) as: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features. Then users with only Acrobat Reader will be able to both fill in the form, print it and save it.
    The forms can be emailed as attachments, put on a CD, whatever. You can add print and save buttons to the form - all kinds of things.
    (As usual, Lynda.com has tutorials on Acrobat forms and for those in the UK, Certitec.com has excellent specialised personal training on Acrobat forms.)

  • Trouble Creating a pdf Using MS Office Word 2007

    When I try to convert a document in MS Office Word 2007 to a
    PDF the process starts but Word shuts down after 10% of the
    conversion has occurred. I've used Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard for the
    conversion and the Print function in Word but get the same result.
    I received the following error message:
    %%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: setdistillerparams;
    ErrorInfo: CalCMYKProfile U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2 ]%%
    %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored
    Error accessing color profile: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
    %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
    On an earlier attempt an error message read:
    "Can't open file WRS (97F62665-949E-4CC3-967C-80EE690DFF9C).
    If the file is stored on you computer there may be a problem with
    the hardware or netwroik. If you can copy the file, try saving it
    in another location and opening it from there." I saved the file on
    a memory stick and was able to get it converted to a pdf at a local
    business support store for a fee.
    I'd very much prefer to do my own conversions and wonder if
    anyone on this forum has experienced the same problem and was able
    to resolve it. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Trouble creating grayscale PDF

    Hi!
    I have a bunch of grayscale PDS-files, dot grain 20%, that I need to make into a grayscale PDF. This has proven more difficult than I expected. I did a PDF from Bridge with "Output"-"preserve embedded color profile" checked, but it seems that didn't do much. The printing place said it reads like a colour PDF.
    Then I tried Acrobat Pro, first to make a new PDF file from my  images, and then to convert my earlier Bridge-PDF using "Preflight" - "convert colour to grayscale". That made the images low resolution and dark. The file size went down from Bridge's 140 MB to 45 MB.
    Finally I gave InDesign a shot, but I lack the skills to do much with it.. If I put some effort into learning InDesign, will I be able to export one single PDF-file, with the original (or close to it) resolution and tone values, and with a grayscale colour profile?

    Thanks for the quick response! They are Photoshop files, saved in Photoshop format. I have also saved the images as hi-res JPEGs with colour profile "dot grain 20%" and tried to do a PDF from those in Acrobat, same problem=dark, low-res, pixellated.
    I'm using MacOS 10.6.8 for Acrobat XI, Bridge CS5 and Photoshop CS5, and have access to a PC laptop with InDesign CS6 on it.

  • Help:  having trouble creating a PDF

    When I print a word document to a PDF, it doesn't open in acrobat, even though the little distiller icon appears in the lower-right corner of the screen.    Also, when viewing the file in a folder, a microsoft word icon appears next to it.  I've called the Adobe people and have registered my Creative Suite a couple times, trying to rectify the issue.
    I'm also able to open the document in acrobat, but I have to right-click the file and choose open with "Adobe Acrobat."
    Operating system:  Windows
    Computer:  Toshiba P855

    I'm sorry.  I meant to put Windows 7.  It's a .pdf file.
    Update:  I fixed it.

  • Is there a way to create separate PDFs for each layer in Indesign?

    I have a multi-layered InDesign file, and I would like to generate a PDF for each of the layers. I was able to create a LAYERED PDF file (one PDF page with layers), which is great, but I also need a multi-page PDF...one PDF page per layer.
    Is there a way to do this? Do I need a script? Or is there a way to extract the separate layers from the layered PDF?
    Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

    Check this script:

  • Creating a PDF from a  Secure Website (entire site)

    I am having trouble creating a PDF from a website that requires a login and password. I have full access to the secure website through a subscription and wanted to print certain levels (or even be able to print the whole site that I can access) but when I run the Create function it only prints the publicly-accessible portions of the site. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

    Unfortunately that has not helped. When I try to print from IE, I can only print the page I am on, not the entire path or the entire website. The only way I can find to print more than the single page is to go Acrobat, but that brings me back to my original problem -- when I run it through Acrobat only the public (not the private or secured) pages are created into a PDF. I have also searched the boards and have found nothing. Any additional help would be appreciated.

  • Hello.  May I ask:  I am using Acrobat 6.0.2, and having trouble formatting a PDF created from multiple (jpeg) files.  Each page is formatted to A4 size, portrait.  But when I create the PDF, each sheet appears as tiny, in the middle of a huge white page.

    Hello.  May I ask:  I am using Acrobat 6.0.2, and having trouble formatting a PDF created from multiple (jpeg) files.  Each page is formatted to A4 size, portrait.  But when I create the PDF, each sheet appears as tiny, in the middle of a huge white page.  I cannot seem to find any controls to adjust this.  Any advice appreciated.

    Thanks CtDave, for the further info.  Unfortunately, those suggestions are not working, which is strange.
    ....Until last week, I used to make multi-page PDFs straight from Photoshop: File > Automate > Make PDF.  One simply choses the files, orders them, and creates a PDF.  (Resolution doesn't matter; 300 DPI is no problem.)  However, my new Photoshop CS5 does not have the option in Automate.
    What I've done, seeing as Acrobat is letting me down, is use Bridge (new to me) to create the PDF.  It worked without a problem, but seems like more work than the old PS method.  I will download a newer version of Acrobat to see if that makes any difference.
    .....Also, thanks Test Screen Name:  I agree with you that jpeg is irrelevant, and that one can make a PDF from Photoshop (Print > Save As - pdf).  But that only works for SINGLE PAGE pdf, not multiple pages as far as I can tell.
    Kind regards,
    Prince Nuada
